David Badash at NCRM:
Stephen Miller, the architect of Donald Trump’s child and family separation policy and one of his longest-serving, die-hard loyalists, will become the incoming president’s deputy chief of staff for policy, a top role in the second administration of the Republican nationalist. Miller, an immigration hardliner who was also responsible for Trump’s Muslim-majority country travel ban, has a history of promoting white nationalist rhetoric. He is responsible for the separation of thousands of young children from their parents, and even from their siblings, as a means to deter other asylum seekers from crossing the southern border into the United States. Under Trump and Miller’s “zero tolerance” policy, there were no plans to reunite the children with their parents. Despite efforts by the Biden administration, thousands of children have never been placed back into their families. As of May, 1400 children remained separated from their parents.
“Miller will return with more influence than he had in the first Trump administration, where he served as a senior adviser for policy, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN,” The Daily Beast adds, noting that Miller was also behind Trump’s “American carnage” inauguration address. CNN reports that “Miller is also a lead architect of the president-elect’s plans for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. He has said that a second Trump administration would seek a tenfold increase in the number of deportations to more than 1 million per year. In an interview on Fox News last week, Miller expressed eagerness at the prospect of beginning mass deportations as soon as possible.” “They begin on Inauguration Day, as soon as he takes the oath of office,” Miller said.
White nationalist Stephen Miller will be in a plum post in the 2nd Trump Regime, as he has been named deputy chief of staff for policy.

I'd ask whether the Blue No Matter Who crowd had anything to add, but considering when they mean "lesser evil" they mean "more likely to spare the white middle-class" AND the fact that evil has no bottom so the goalpost will move onward to hell and beyond, they will never fucking shut up in our lifetime.

real talk its so fucking Difficult to have been raised by someone who moralized food down to the molecular level like I know it wasn’t done with intent to hurt me (in fact it was done with intent to save me which is more irritating bc i feel guilty for being so angry bc they really were doing what they thought was right) but being told from basically birth that i must be resilient against any food i found alluring and that not giving into things with any sugar or fat was a sign of strength is actually quite insane whenever i think about it. Being like 5 years old in the supermarket asking if we can get the off brand honey nut cheerios instead of the plain ones and getting a lecture in the middle of the aisle that sweet things are addictive and bad for me and im only going to trap myself in a dopamine cycle and that even the fact that I asked should be a lesson in how dangerous and tempting food can be and im like. Ok. I am a literal child and the what im taking away from this is certain foods are Evil and Evil Foods Taste Better and Feel Good For Your Body and Brain and that once you start indulging you can never stop like. bro i rlly never stood a chance 😭😩
#Vent#I didnt try McDonald’s until i was 14/15 despite being a latchkey kid at 11 and living right across from one in the middle of a food desert#Bc i was genuinely actually afraid my dad would somehow know if i had a burger and/or that god would send me to hell if i got french fries#Most fast food places are still extremely novel to me bc i only tried them now in my 20s. This is also bc we were extremely poor but thats#It’s own whole separate thing lmao. Fast food will forever be a modern luxury in my eyes to some extent even if everything else heals#Almond dad shit hits different especially when hes an immigrant trying to set you up for a better life and live through you. Double whammy#When they give up everything for u whats giving up a few calories for them amiright#Especially bc he came from an overweight family that does have severe health issues so. TFW u give ur kid an 3d out of love or something ig#Anyway. Back to aesthetic posts in a bit im just thinking some thoughts tonight

The Biden administration and more than 4,000 migrants who were separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border by the Trump administration reached a legal settlement Monday that allows the families to live and work in the U.S. for three years while receiving housing, mental health and legal assistance to apply for asylum. The settlement also prohibits the federal government from separating any migrant families crossing the border for eight years, unless the parents are considered a danger to their children or the public or they have previously entered the country illegally more than twice. The deal, announced by the Justice Department, may end one of the darkest chapters in U.S. immigration policy, in which families crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally in 2017 and 2018 were systematically separated. Children younger than 18 were sent to the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services, while parents were prosecuted by U.S. attorneys in federal court.

al things considered — when i post my masterpiece #1162
first posted in facebook march 4, 2023
leslie sills -- "detention" (2020)
"some works [in this exhibition] decry the trump administration’s policy of separating children from their families at the mexican border. in 'detention,' a painting with collage that could be a fairy tale illustration, leslie sills portrays children asleep or fretting amid a sea of red cross blankets" ... cate mcquaid
"this is where i remain. while i explore the quotidian and celebrate it wholeheartedly, i am attuned as well to world crises and its victims. with compassion and empathy, i seek to portray those in need. in this way i see art as an agent for change, one that can enlighten the viewing public, make them think, and hopefully act accordingly" ... leslie sills
"i was standing on a ladder outside the homestead juvenile immigrant detention center outside miami, looking over the fence, and i saw children lined up like prisoners. they had been separated from their families and put in this private detention facility. it was horrible" ... kamala harris
"good night ... sleep tight ... don't let the dead bugs bite" ... al janik

Why does Heat Abnormal feel so.. perfect to listen to knowing what will happen to this fucking country in a few months
Like
Seeing as the place that people have been trying so hard to save/improve burns down due to the choices of those above us
Watching it become a sort of apocalypse
Anyways wanna hear how I’m a second gen immigrant
#uhhh#politics (????) in tags so do not keep reading if no wanna see#they really think that deporting ALL immigrants (legal and illegal) is a good idea#these people come because they’re in a bad state and believe that life will be better here#and instead of trying to make sure that it’s easier to immigrate legally and ACTUALLY provide better opportunities to them#you decide the best option is to make them leave#and if they had children here (11% of the population is those children) they’re separated from their families#and we don’t know how much of that 11% is unable to care for themselves (unstable/no income unstable/no housing etc etc)#this was something on my mind when I found out the results bc I’m a minor#and would have to live with my brothers (if they could afford bills and food) or be in foster care bc both of my parents are immigrants#rant#?#vent#??#napsjwobdiwnxowhdiwjwixbuwbduw

Steve Benen at MSNBC's MaddowBlog:
As brutal as Donald Trump’s family-separation policy was during his presidency, the Republican hasn’t ruled out a sequel in a possible second term. In fact, as recently as Friday, the GOP nominee’s running mate, JD Vance, also hedged on whether to expect another round of family separations if voters return Trump to power. But in case that weren’t quite enough, it was something the Republican presidential hopeful said a day later that was every bit as jarring. As USA Today’s Rex Huppke noted in his latest column:
[At his weekend rally in Wisconsin, Trump brought up his sadistic plan to deport millions of immigrants, and he spun a dizzyingly dishonest tale about immigrants: “In Colorado they’re so brazen they’re taking over sections of the state. And you know, getting them out will be a bloody story.”]
[...] But it was the use of the word “bloody” that stood out. As a Washington Post analysis explained, “It’s a pledge not just of the cruelty of ostracism or subjugation. It’s a promise that the purported dangers of immigrants will be met with force, with cracked skulls or — as Trump reportedly suggested while serving as president — gunfire.” What’s more, let’s not lose sight of the larger pattern. Trump has targeted migrants with dehumanizing rhetoric that echoes Hitler — complaining about migrants “poisoning the blood of our country,” and insisting that migrants are “not humans” — all while promising to create militarized mass deportations and detention camps if voters reward him with a second term. He has even talked about putting migrants into a ring to fight for Americans’ entertainment.
Donald Trump’s 2nd term will feature a much crueler deportation agenda. Vote Kamala Harris to prevent such a nightmare scenario from happening.

yeah this is true but i feel like often this point gets simplified to "for profit prisons are bad" instead of "prisons are bad" like. for profit prisons are absolutely terrible but the great majority of prisons making use of this or similar practices are state or even federally run.
#yes for profit prisons are bad but whats interesting is that where they make up a small minority of “standard” prisons#they have basically cornered the market on immigration detention facilities which are kind of a whole nother can of worms#vis a vis human rights violations. which isnt really talked about enough i think#tldr: newsflash asshole ALL prisons capitalize on family separation and exploitation#the state of alabama literally tried to resurrect the chain gang. in the 90s

The Christmas Story from Luke 2, circa 2025
In those days, a decree had gone out calling for mass deportations that began when the new government had taken power.
A re-adaptation of an adaptation I wrote in 2019 of the gospel of Jesus according to Luke, chapter 2 In those days, a decree had gone out calling for mass deportations that began when the new government had taken power. This action was in addition to restrictions on migration and policies of family separation enacted by previous administrations, the latter that were to be banned into the next…

The government has announced that it has deported almost 13,500 people since coming to power, something ministers say proves their tough approach towards migrants but which human rights campaigners have warned could put lives at risk. The government says it is on track to deliver the highest number of returns for five years and includes the four biggest return flights ever. The Observer revealed earlier this month that at least three of these four flights were returns to Brazil, and it is thought the fourth is also likely to be going there. Between 5 July and 7 December 2024, a total of 13,460 returns were recorded, most of them voluntary. But the number of enforced returns rose by 25% compared with the same period in 2023. The Home Office organised deportation flights to at least seven countries, including Pakistan, Nigeria and Albania. Sources in the department confirmed that 37 people were removed on the Pakistan flight. One of those forcibly removed was a refused asylum seeker whose wife was a dependant on his asylum claim. The Home Office removed him but left his wife in the UK. Human rights organisations warned that some of those deported would have been forcibly separated from family members. Emma Ginn, director of the charity Medical Justice, which works to support the health of immigration detainees facing removal from the UK, said: “The new data being celebrated by the government includes real people who have been unable to access legal representation, nor the medical and expert evidence needed to properly present their case, meaning some may face real risk on forced return to their country.
