It is official....you have less than two weeks to know me before I become a ghost...I’m either gonna die of anticipation for episode 6 OR I’m gonna die during episode 6 when I see my sweet children back together again...

Here’s a disorganized rant because I’m a salty bitch about Supergirl
I’ve been with Supergirl since it was announced. I preordered the first season before it was confirmed for a full run. I bought the second season as soon as it was available for preorder on iTunes. This is the FIRST year I haven’t preordered it. I’m not even interested in investing my money into it anymore. I was the most loyal fan. A good majority of my superman/Supergirl merch is because of the show. I went to LA and marvelled at the set. I refrained from telling spoilers, even though I knew what happened. My loyalty and trust in the show was unbelievable. My friends called me obsessed, but I almost didn’t care, because it was the one thing that didn’t judge me. The cast was beautiful in more ways than one. Chyler and Melissa demonstrated healthy female friendship, and their characters a good familial bond.
It all went south in the second season, and I knew it the second Superman was cast. He wasn’t necessary, but I let it slide because I assumed that would be the extent of it.
And then Mon-El.
I have a very distinct memory of when Chris Wood was announced as Mon-El. I was in a group chat at the time and they went BESERK. They started saying things like “if Mon-El and Kara don’t get together, imma riot”.
This scared me. I didn’t want Kara to be corrupted by making her storyline all about this white boy who we hadn’t even met yet.
And everything I feared would happen... happened.
Did you know only 6 episodes out of 50 have been directed by women? Here we go:
Karen Gaviola: “Hostile Takeover”
Lexi Alexander: “Truth, Justice, and the American Way”
Jamie Babbit: “Childish Things”
Rachel Talalay: “Welcome to Earth”
Rebecca Johnson: “We Can Be Heroes”
Tawnia McKiernan: “Luthors” (bless)
And this is out of 29 directors. So, let’s do some math.
So only 12% of the episodes were directed by women. And please take a look at what episodes those were. And 20% of the directors are women, but none of the female directors have had more than one episode. And that’s 3 episodes per season directed by a woman. It’s like they’re meeting a necessary quota.
I don’t know, for a show that’s supposed to be progressive, that’s pretty low numbers.
Anyways, I’m done giving this show the time of day. I’m certainly not giving them my money or my views any longer. I was a fool to think that this show was anything other than a faint grab at the female favour.
