Like I think about pensions and retirement and working until I'm in my 60s and I wonder why I would want to be there for it when the only thing that I have to look forward to is shitty work for barely-enough pay for most of my life, up until I finally get to go (if I have my 40 years worth of trimesters) and enjoy life on a pension too small to do anything with. I literally hung out with my best friend today and we made hot chocolate and I think about retirement and suddenly I forget about every good thing in life

// stole this OC questions sheet from here! super fun ya’ll should do it :’0
if you want to do it pls do i want. to kno abt ur ocs. you dont need to do all 100 bc i sure af didn’t
1. What is your OC’s name? Kimiko Ijichi 2. What is your OC’s gender? DFAB - Cis - she/her 3. What is your OC’s sexual orientation? Demi-asexual! 4. How old are they? I typically rp her as 16, but I like to imagine her in her late teens or early 20s 5. What species are they- human, animal, alien, robot, none of the above? Human 6. What is their family like? Do they have one? Yes!  She’s an only child with a mother and father.  Gengyo is a very loving and passionate father, though tends to be neurotic, paranoid, and spoils his daughter to no end.  Ritsuko is also a loving mother who puts compassion for others as a first priority, but has been struggling with her dysthymia and thus has been a less enthusiastic parent in Kimiko’s life.  More info on Gengyo here, and more info on Ritsuko here! 7. Who is their best friend? Why? Her designated best friend was and forever will be Isaki Matsuna.  Kimiko refuses to refer to anyone else as a best friend.  Isaki had been with Kimiko since early elementary school.  Her typical form of expressing affection was through taunting, and while that did seem odd to Kimiko, Isaki truly did care for and look out for her.  They were complete foils of each other; ultimately, they were perfect contrasts. 8. Do they have a partner/significant other? Why are they together/not together? Zak & I are working on a ship, but we have yet to really rp the start of it -- so no. 9. What is their most prized possession? Why is it so important? A ribbon from a beginner’s level riding competition!  It was the only competition she rode in, and she only got 7th place (they gave ribbons to all the competitors), but Isaki was there to train her, to cheer for her and put it in a really fancy frame.  The framed ribbon is nailed right above her desk at home! 10. Do they prefer to be warm or cold? She prefers to be chilly. 11. If they could only eat one food for the rest of their life, what would it be? No way would she settle for this. 12. Is there anything they’d like to change about themselves physically? She really wishes she had long hair like Isaki’s.  Down to the butt.  But she would never be able to manage it. 13. Who is the most important person in their life? Isaki was and always will be her inspiration; but from someone who is living, her father!  Although he’s eccentric, he’s the light of her life, as is she to him! 14. Are they a cat person? A dog person? An okapi person? Birds!!  She’d love to have an African gray parrot when she retires!  Calm, friendly cats seem like nice companions, too. 15. What sort of books do they like to read (if they like to read)? Mystery, thriller, crime, autobiographies and memoirs, and books on psychology mainly.  She doesn’t strictly stay with these genres, though. 16. What’s their favorite thing to do on a rainy weekend? Turn on the news channel or turn on the radio and listen to the police scanner.  Arrange her blossoms from her flower pressing into little designs to frame.  Study, ofc.  And go shopping. 17. Where were they born? Hiroo, Shibuya 18. Where do they want to live? She wouldn’t mind staying in Japan, but doesn’t need to stick with where she’s living now (Ikebukuro).  She does prefer big cities, though. 19. Do they have a job? As a student, no.  But during college she’d probably get a part time job as a waitress or something before getting her internship.  Then she’d intern at a therapy facility only to start work as a psychologist & therapist.  Slowly but surely, she’d move her way on to more difficult, struggling people involved with touchy cases.  But that wouldn’t be until she’s in her mid-30s. 20. If they could work anywhere, where would it be? Chicago.  A big city full of crime. 21. Do they use any sort of weapon? If not, what would they want if they could have one? When she starts to work as a criminal psychologist with rather dangerous people, authorities would prompt her to keep a taser on her.
22. Do they have any sort of special power/what power would they want? Nope.  Wouldn’t want any.
23. What’s their fashion sense? Form-fitting comfy young hipster librarian with pastels.
24. What do they think of snakes? Interesting, but keep them away from her or so help me God.
25. What is their biggest pet peeve? Regarding someone as a bad person for mistakes they have made in the past.
26. What is their greatest fear? Not being recognized for her work in her department, and that she won’t be able to help any of her clients or the police force.
27. Do they have any sort of disability, disorder, or health issue? I am thinking about her having dysthymia like her mom, or some other form of depression, since trauma can be “passed down” and she’s gone through a lot.  Still trying to figure out where and how that’d fit though.  She’s also lactose intolerant if that qualifies here.
28. Who is the person they hate the most in their life? She tries not to hate, and she doesn’t truly hate anyone, but her ex-boyfriend Hoitsu Mifune is someone she really, truly, strongly dislikes.
29. Is there anyone they want to be more like? Isaki.  She was always super cheerful, fun-loving, spontaneous, and very go with the flow.
31. Their home is on fire- what do they do? Get out of there according to the fire escape plan she and her family have practiced.
32. Do they like children? Yes!!  While rowdy ones tend to annoy her a bit, she still likes them all the same!
33. Would they rather take a short cut or take the scenic route? Depends on where she’s going.  If it’s a lazy day with no plans, scenic route always.
34. What’s their strongest belief? If you don’t care for others, you’re not human; you’re a monster.
35. What’s their opinion on lying? It can come in handy from time to time, so long as it’s not meant to harm anyone.
38. Which family member are they closest to, if any? Her father as of lately.
39. Do they ever want to get married and/or have kids? YES. YES. YES. YES. yes.
40. What was the hardest decision they ever had to make in their life? Going to see Isaki’s father in the hospital while he was on his death bed.
41. What was the happiest day of their life? Not sure.
43. How did they meet their last/current/future significant other? Or their best friend, if non-applicable? She met Isaki in elementary school when they were partnered up together to do a report.  They were inseparable after that.  After Isaki’s death, Kimiko met Hoitsu when she was 15 through a teammate on the tennis team.  They were together for nine months before she ended it.
44. If they were a class in a fantasy RPG, what class would it be? Probably a cleric.
45. Do they have any birthmarks or scars that they’re embarrassed by? She does have some birthmarks running up her legs and some on her chest, but she’s not embarrassed by them.
46. What’s their favorite color? Lavender
47. Do they have any piercings or tattoos? Do they want any/any more? Her ears are pierced, but that’s it.  She’s content with that.
48. Have they ever tried drugs or alcohol? Nope!
49. Are they an idealist or a realist? Idealist
50. Are they more introverted or extroverted? Extroverted!
51. What is their main goal in life? To become a criminal psychologist.
52. What are they willing to sacrifice to accomplish that goal? Her time, her well being, her friends.
53. Would they ever kill somebody (what would they consider a justifiable reason to kill someone?) Nope!  Not at all.
54. Have they ever kissed someone? Do they want to? She kissed Hoitsu a few times, though he was uninterested by it.  She likes romance, so I guess she wants to?
55. Have they always been comfortable with their sexual/gender identity, or is it something they’ve struggled with? No, she doesn’t even know she is demi-asexual.  She just thinks she’s uninterested because she isn’t ready to be sexually intrigued by someone.  Which is technically true.
56. Do they have any special ability or marking that sets them apart from others of their species/race? Why is it so remarkable or strange? Nnno?
58. If they had a Tumblr, what would they blog about? TBFH. she’d probably be either a studyblr or post about psychology and self care.
59. Any kinks or fetishes? Rich-Looking People.
60. If they only had one day left to live, what would they do? Say her goodbyes to her friends and family, then cry.
61. If they found a wallet with the equivalence of 200 dollars in it, what would they do? Find the ID and report it to the police to be given back.
62. If they live in a world without magic/without mainstream magic, do they believe in magic? Excluding Kiyo, no she doesn’t believe in it.
63. If they could have any pet ever, what would it be? AFRICAN GRAY PARROT. PLEASE.
64. Who is the person they admire most? Why? Isaki; go back to #7 and #29
65. Do they think they are attractive? Yes!
66. What is their biggest regret? Not asking for Isaki and her family to stay home the night of the crash.
67. What would they do for a klondike bar? she’d kill a man
68. The most important person in their life has been bitten by a zombie/whatever qualifies as a zombie in their world. Do they put them out of their misery, or try to find an alternative? Find an alternative.  If it resulted in having to kill her father, then she’d kill herself afterwards.
69. Is there anyone in their life they just can’t say no to? Why? Her mother; she knows she’s struggling with a lot of things and can’t seem to balance all she needs to, so she wants to help her in any way possible.
70. Are they more math, science, or art oriented? Science!
71. Is there anything they like that would be considered geeky in their world? Forensics??? Maybe?  Just knowing and spewing weird trivia about it?
72. Did they/would they leap at the call to adventure, or were they/would they have to be dragged along? If asked, she’d happily tag along, so long as safety is guaranteed.
73. Do they think there is more to life than whatever they are doing right now? Oh yeah.
75. What’s their most positive trait? She’s utterly compassionate.
76. What’s their fatal flaw? She’s utterly compassionate -- to the point where she needs to baby those who are struggling, which in turn sacrifices her well being and ultimately doesn’t help those she’s caring for.  Savior complex tbh.
77. What do their friends/family/teammates find most annoying about them? She’s loud, most jokes go over her head, she’s blunt, and she probably is nosy about their lives.  She just has to know if they need her.
78. What are their biggest strengths? She knows how to remain calm and rational during a panicked event; compassionate; ambitious; does her best not to be judgmental.
79. What are their weaknesses? She has a savior complex; very invasive about personal lives; self-sacrificial; depressed; spoiled.  Fun fun.
80. What is most memorable about their appearance? Uhh either her height or her eyebrows?
82. Do they dwell on the past, or live in the moment? OH BOY.  She preaches about living in the moment, and accepting and learning from the past to progress in The Now.  BUT.  She dwells.
83. Why is their main goal so important to them? What set them on that path? Becoming a criminal psychologist interested her at the age of nine; it was said to be an exciting job that paid very well.  But after Isaki’s death and evidence to show that she was involved with drug use/dealing and underage gambling, Kimiko changed her mindset.  She now wants to become one since she knows criminals are still people.  She wants to help them in any way she can, to help them lead healthy lives again.
84. Do they believe that people are inherently good? YES. She’s adamant about it.
87. Is there any other fictional character you would compare them too, personality or appearance-wise? tbh I did start to design her with traits from Ishimaru and Kirigiri.  So I guess them?
89. What sort of music do they/would they like? Pop!  Soft pop about romance is typically what she listens to when she’s doing her work.
90. What do they consider the worst evil in the world? Abuse, cruelty and neglect to children, as that traumatizes them and sets them up for a difficult life, only to repeat the abuse to their children.
91. What’s the closest they’ve been to dying (or, if they’re already dead, how did they die)? She attempted suicide soon after Isaki’s father died in the hospital, as he was the last of her immediate family who was living.  She attempted by hanging, but her knot was lousy and undid itself.
93. Do they like their name? Is there any name they’d rather have? She does!  Ijichi is a name rather well-known since her father’s family has an attorneys practice starting with her great grandfather Ijichi.
94. What is the significance of their name? Kimiko ( 君子 ) means “noble child”; Ijichi ( 伊地知 ) I cannot find the meaning of for the life of me. Italy, earth, knowledge? idk
95. Have they ever been bullied? Have they ever bullied anyone? There’s always bullying in the school yard; she’s never been horribly bullied, nor worried too much about it.  Isaki was the one who would usually torment others, so Kimiko was just her henchman.
96. Are they a light or heavy sleeper? Average?
97. What do they dream about when they sleep? idk, random things. Dreams are weird.
98. Do they prefer an urban or a rural setting, or something else? She does like rural settings to stay at for a while, but ultimately she’s a big fan of urban settings.
99. Is there any moment or event that they feel defines their life and who they are now? Isaki’s death.
100. Why is this character important? To you, and/or to their world? Oh man.  When I get an idea for an OC, it’s always in a short spurt, so pretty much all my OCs are really under-developed.  But for whatever reason, I stuck with developing Kimiko.  RPing her also helped SO MUCH in terms of figuring out why she is the way she is and adding new traits and perspectives to her. idk.  I just love her a lot and I’m glad my pals here like her as much as they do. ;;;

Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party, responds to the Spring Budget statement in the House of Commons
**Check against delivery**
Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party, replying to the Spring Budget statement in the House of Commons, said:
“Mr Deputy Speaker, this was a Budget of utter complacency; about the state of our economy, utter complacency about the crisis facing our public services and complacency about the reality of daily life for millions of people in this country.
Entirely out of touch with that reality of life for millions.
This morning over one million workers will have woken up not knowing whether they’ll work today, tomorrow or next week.
Millions more workers know their next pay packet will not be enough to make ends meet.
Millions struggling to pay rent or mortgage; with private renters on average pay nearly half their income in rent.
Yesterday Mr Deputy Speaker, over three thousand people in this country will have queued at food banks to feed themselves and their families.
Last night Mr Deputy Speaker, over four thousand people will have slept rough on the streets of this country.
And the Chancellor made his boasts about a strong economy, but who is reaping the rewards of this economy?
For millions it is simply not working.
Not working for the NHS, in its worst crisis ever, with funding being cut next year.
Not working for our children’s schools, where pupil funding continues to be cut.
Not working for our neighbourhoods which have lost 20,000 police officers, leaving the force in a “perilous state” in many parts of the country.
And not working for our dedicated public servants and the people who work in them nurses, firefighters, teachers, no pay rise for seven years for them.
And for people with disabilities who are twice as likely to be living in poverty and that this Government is denying them support that the courts say they need.
4 million children living in poverty which will rise by another million in coming years.
Not working for thousands of young people who can’t get anywhere to live, can’t get on the housing ladder and cannot in many cases leave the parental home.
Parents of grown-up children who would expect to be debt-free by now, but are having to bail out student debt, or try and help with a deposit to get housing if they can manage it.
And a million elderly people, and I will come onto this again, denied the social care they need due to the £4.6 billion of cuts made by his government with the support of the Lib Dems over the past five years.
Not for pensioners for whom the security of the Triple Lock remains in doubt.
Mr Deputy Speaker that is the reality facing Britain today. A government cutting services and living standards of the many to fund and continue to fund the tax cuts of the few.
There are some people Mr Deputy Speaker, who are doing very well under the Conservative government.
The chief executives of big companies now paid 180 times more than the average worker and taxed less.
The big corporations making higher profits and being taxed less.
Speculators making more and being taxed less and wealthiest families, taxed less due to cuts in inheritance tax.
All this adds up to £70 billion of tax giveaways over the next five years, to those who need it the least.
This government is the government with the wrong priorities let me give you three examples:
The pain of losing a child is unimaginable for most of us, but for those who do, that pain is worsened by the stress of having to pay for their own child’s funeral. I pay tribute to my friend the member for Swansea East for her campaign to establish a Children’s Funeral Fund.
But far from establishing such a fund, costing just £10 million a year, the Government is instead cutting support for bereaved families, 3 in 4 bereaved families would receive less. This is utterly heartless.
Despite generous tax giveaways at the top end, there was no money either for the 160,000 people with disabilities that a court has ruled deserve a higher rate of Personal Independence Payments. These are people with debilitating mental health conditions dementia, schizophrenia and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The Prime Minister came to office talking about “fighting burning injustices”. Less than nine months later, she seems to have forgotten all about them because none of them are being fought today.
Low pay holds people back and it’s holding our country back.
We’re the only major developed country in which economic growth has returned yet workers are worse off. Wages are still below the 2008 level.
Inflation rising, an urgent need to address the pressures on people’s incomes; massively rising personal debts, rising energy bills and the cost of the weekly shop, transport costs and housing costs all rising.
The Chancellor faced a series of tests as to whether he would stand on the same side of the people or not. He could have raised the minimum wage to the level of the living wage – the real living wage, of £10 per hour as we Labour are pledged to do. It would pay for a pay rise for six million people in this country, 62 percent of whom are women. He failed to do that.
Since 2010, millions of public sector workers have endured a pay freeze and then a pay cap, dedicated public servants who keep our services going have lost over 9 per cent of their real terms wages or will have done by 2020.
He could have ended the public sector pay cap, as we are pledged to do and given a pay rise to 5 million dedicated public servants who we all rely in day in day out in our hospitals, our health service in general and our local government. He failed to do that. It’s an insult to say they deserve falling living standards when we all know those in the public sector are working harder than ever covering the jobs of those that have gone.
There is a crisis too Mr Deputy Speaker in job security. Millions of workers don’t know whether or not they’ll be working from day to day, millions of workers who don’t know how many hours they’ll be working this week or next week, just imagine what it’s like to try and plan your life if you don’t know what your income is going to be from one week to the other. Because Mr Deputy Speaker that is the reality.
Thank you Mr Deputy Speaker, there is nothing funny about being one of 900,000 workers on zero hours contracts, 55 percent of them women.
He could have announced  a ban of zero hours contracts – we are pledged to do. Again he failed.
But zero hours contracts Mr Deputy Speaker are only the tip of the iceberg, of 4.5 million workers in Britain in insecure work, 2.3 million working variable shift patterns, 1.1 million on temporary contracts.
We have long argued for a clampdown on bogus self-employment but today the Chancellor seems to have put the burden on self-employed workers instead.
There has to be a something for something deal, so I hope the Chancellor will bring forward extra social security in return? One policy that Labour backs is extending statutory maternity pay to self-employed women which is likely to cost just £10 million per year.
Low pay and insecure work have consequences for us all. Mr Deputy Speaker in reality we all pay for low pay.
There are a million working households having to claim housing benefit, just get that figure a million working households claiming housing benefit because their wages aren’t enough to pay the rent.  And there are 3 million working families who simply rely on tax credits to make ends meet. This is modern Britain.
The most effective way of boosting wages and increasing job security as all studies show is actually to improve collective bargaining through a trade union. Words that the Chancellor did not use in his speech. But instead the Trade Union Act we have will further shackle unions and perpetuate chronic low pay which actually costs us all a lot of money through in-work benefits.  We will promote collective bargaining and repeal the Trade Union Act.
This is a Chancellor and a Government not on the side of the workers, not on the side of taxpayers who pick up the bill for low pay and insecure work.
Mr Deputy Speaker, on International Women’s Day did the Chancellor deliver a budget that works for women?
According to House of Commons Library analysis commissioned by my friend the member for Rotherham, who is doing a brilliant job speaking up for women from our front benches, 86 per cent of the savings to the Treasury has made from tax and benefit changes have fallen on women.
Women’s lives have been made more difficult through successive policies of this Government.
Women struggling with more caring responsibilities due to the state of emergency in social care.
The WASPI women born in the 1950s who with little notice are having to face a crisis in retirement, they could not possibly have predicted.
54,000 women a year who are forced out of their jobs through maternity discrimination . They can’t afford this Government’s extortionate fees to take their employer to a tribunal in search of justice.
Women up and down the country who will have to wait another 60 years before the gender pay gap is closed.
The hundreds, hundreds of women being turned away from domestic violence shelters every year through lack of space or appropriate services or because they’ve simply been closed.
Mothers struggling, put under more pressure through cuts to universal credit and to tax credits.
And as if it wasn’t bad enough to cut benefits to children whose only crime is to be born third or fourth in a family, most shamefully Mr Deputy Speaker, as of next month women will have to prove their third child is a product of rape if they wish to qualify for child tax credits for that child.
I pay tribute to my friend the member for Rotherham and the honourable member for Glasgow Central for their campaigning on this issue . I hope the Chancellor will reverse this cut.
There is Mr Deputy Speaker, a housing crisis in this country – a crisis of supply and of affordability.
Since 2010, housebuilding has fallen to its lowest rate in peacetime since the 1920s. The building of social homes for rent is at its lowest level for a quarter of a century.
Did he empower councils to tackle the housing crisis by allowing them to borrow to build council housing as we are pledged to do? No.
Have they replaced council houses sold under right-to-buy as they promised? No, just one-in-six have been replaced.
And was there any commitment to return to councils the £800 million right-to-buy proceeds the Treasury has taken back, which would build  twelve thousand homes? No.
Did he scrap the unfair bedroom tax as we are pledged to do? No.
Did he reverse housing benefit cuts that would take support away from ten thousand young people? Despite opposition from Shelter, Crisis and Centrepoint, which even the honourable member for Enfield Southgate correctly described as “catastrophic”.
Last week the Institute for Government said there were “clear warning signs” of the damaging impact of the Government’s cuts on schools, prisons, health and social care.
This government has taken a sledgehammer to public services in recent years, the Chancellor now expects praise for patching up a small part of the damage.
The Budget didn’t provide the funding necessary now for the crisis in our NHS – which the BMA reckons needs an extra £10 billion.
It didn’t provide the funding necessary to end the state of emergency in social care now which needs £2 billion a year just to plug the gaps according to the King’s Fund.
That is not met by £2 billion over three years. The money is needed now. More than a million people, mainly older people, desperate for social care still can’t get it. The money ought to be made available now.
Because this government ducks really tough choices, like asking corporations to pay a little bit more in tax.
Not every local authority can just text Nick and get the deal they want.
And other council services are suffering as well:
Our communities are stronger when we have good libraries, and they are evaluable obviously to children but for the entire community. 67 closed last year because of local government underfunding.
700 Sure Start centres closed because of lack of funding for local authorities. Denying the life chances that a Labour government delivered to them with the opening of Sure Start centres in the 90’s. And 600 youth centres have closed as well.
These painful decisions being taken by councils not because they want to do it, but just because they don’t have enough money even to keep essential services running because of the slashing of their budgets, year on year. And it goes on, it affects our communities and our lives in so many ways.
Last year councils proposed to sell-off of school playing fields the equivalent of 500 football pitches. 500 pitches not available for young people to indulge in sport. It’s our duty as a community surely, to ensure all our young people wherever they live have a decent chance to grow up with a library, with a playing field, with a Sure Start centre. It’s not a lot to ask.
The Chancellor boasts Mr Deputy Speaker of a strong economy. but abandoned the targets of the previous Chancellor so let’s give a more realistic context to today’s figures: the deficit that was going to be eradicated in 2015 – you’ll remember the “long term economic plan”. The debt that was going to peak at 80% of GDP and then start falling.
Our economy is not prepared for Brexit. We still have an economy suffering from underinvestment and an over-reliance on consumer spending and wholly unsustainable levels of personal and household debt.
Investment must be evenly spread around our country and despite the announcements today, London continues to receive six times as much investment as the North East.
And so that’s why Labour is backing a ‘fair funding formula for investment’ so that every area gets it’s fair share of capital spending. What’s been announced today doesn’t achieve that. You can’t build a ‘Northern powerhouse’ or a ‘Midlands Engine’ if investment does not follow the sound-bites.
Our country currently spends 1.7% on Research & Development which is  well below the OECD average. The strongest economies spend over 3%.
In the immediate term, and the Chancellor didn’t have much to say about this, he must also focus his attentions on the precarious future of skilled workers jobs at Vauxhall in Ellesmere Port and Luton Ellesmere and at Ford in Bridgend.
It would give export businesses more confidence if the government clearly committed to negotiating for tariff- and impediment-free access to the single market and dropped this reckless threat of turning Britain into a tax haven on the shores of Europe.
One of the biggest challenges facing our country Mr Deputy Speaker, is environmental; it’s climate change. This Government is failing to lead, failing to drive a mission-led industrial strategy as our own Business Select Committee has recommended.
The Chancellor failed to make energy efficiency a national infrastructure priority. No commitment to establishing a zero carbon standards on new buildings. And unclear about investments in public transport that will definitely reduce pollution.  The poor air quality is appalling.  It’s killing thousands of people in this country. Its taking away the life chances of many children growing up alongside polluted roads. The good work being done by Labour’s London Mayor Sadiq Khan, the good work being done by the Welsh Labour Government has rightly recognised this as an ‘urgent public health crisis’, particularly for children. We have to deal with this crises and deal with it urgently.
There cannot be Mr Deputy Speaker, an industrial strategy or productivity gains unless there’s serious investment in skills.
Adult skills training cut by 54 per cent, further education budget by 14 per cent the small amounts committed today are long overdue but woefully insufficient. Over the coming years the schools budget is being cut by 8 per cent. Does the Chancellor really want fewer teachers and teaching assistants, even larger classes , shorter school days? Which is it?
I agree with the Prime minister that every child deserves a decent education. Every community deserves decent schools. You do it by working with those communities to provide those schools, not plonking into them selective schools which are not being demanded by those communities.
The money announced by the Prime Minister yesterday for new grammar schools is frankly a vanity project. Cancel this gimmick, reject selection and segregation and why not honour their own 2015 manifesto pledge to protect per pupil funding which is clearly not happening.
This is a Budget that lacks ambition for Britain and lacks fairness.
It demonstrates again the appalling priorities of this Government, another year of tax breaks for the few, public service cuts for the many.
When she took office, the Prime Minister said “If you’re one of those families, if you’re just managing, I want to address you directly”.
This Budget did not address them; it failed them.
This Budget has done nothing to tackle low pay; nothing to solve the state of emergency that persists for so many people demanding and needing health and social care now; and nothing to make a fair economy that truly works for everyone.
It’s built on unfairness and it’s built on failure to tackle unfairness in our society.

Why is my car insurance so high?
I have full coverage insurance on my 2005 Honda civic and I am paying a little over $850 every six months. Every quote I get isn't much better. Why is it so expensive? Individual dental insurance for braces?
What is a good individual dental insurance if I were to get braces? I have done some research and nailed it down to DeltaCare and Pacificare. So which dental insurance is better, or any other suggestions? Pacificare cost slightly less than DeltaCare as far as co-payments go. Both are HMO plans, all the PPO plans covers little to nothing for braces, so HMO seems to be the only way to go for an individual plan. DeltaCare seems to be more reliable since it's associated with Delta Dental, a little more costly also. I'm more concerned about the quality of the services as far as making claims and such. So DeltaCare, Pacificare, or ay other dental insurance/plans? Any personal experience with either of these companies? I am in San Francisco, California.""

Does this letter help explain why insurance is expensive?
This is a letter from Anthem to Sec. Sebelius back on February 11th, almost a month ago. It explains why insurance in California is high and what factors have led to the increase. It seems pretty clear to me and yet the President claims that he has asked for and has yet to receive a cogent response from the insurance company for this increase. Seems pretty cogent to me. Maybe the President is just a slow learner or the fact that he doesn't have any education or experience in business or economics make the concepts difficult for him to grasp. http://www.wellpoint.com/pdf/SebeliusLetter02112010.pdf Notice that they mention that their rates are less than the 'not for profits' and that much of their increase is the result of Medicare patients needing supplementary insurance because Medicare won't cover them. Notice, too, that the cost of insurance is directly associated with the cost of health care. You can't reduce the cost of insurance without reducing the cost of health care. Obama's initiative does nothing to reduce the cost of CARE. Wonder why that is. Could there be an ulterior motive? So what do you think? Do you have any questions? And please don't waste our time. Read the thing before you respond.""

I need some general information about the cost of a motorcycle versus a car?
I have been wanting a motorcycle since I got my regular drivers license, but persuading my parents has proven difficult, as always. My mom seems to be fine with it but my dad, who is normally the one to crush such ideas, is actually considering it if I research the financial aspect of a motorcycle vs. a car. I would appreciate it if anyone had information about how much insurance would go up (I'm 17 so it's probably too expensive already), regular maintenance costs of motorcycles and cars, and anything else relating to the total cost of both. I have about 2500 dollars saved up, and my mom said she would personally loan me up to 1000 at a lower interest rate than the bank, but I could probably take out a loan on top of that, but I would rather avoid that if I can. I am specifically looking at sport bikes, especially the kawasaki ninja 250R because of what I heard, It's reliable, a great beginner's bike, and it's a lot cheaper than other companies I have researched. I simply want a motorcycle even if it's slightly more expensive than a car because I have always liked motorcycles, but nonetheless my father told me to research the financial side of things, so any information is greatly appreciated. And by all means, if I am misinformed about anything like my notion on the ninja 250R, please tell me.""

Insurance Claim Question?
I was rear ended recently and the other drivers insurance co sent out their adjuster. I was told that my car was a total loss. I had a 94 Buick Park Avenue with 148K miles. I got a call from the person who appraised the value of my car and was told that my car was worth $2,200.00 and another $300.00 for what it would have cost me for a rental, totaling $2561. and some change. I did some looking around and found in the auto trader that I can get the same car selling for $2,995 with 154,605 miles. The question I have is do I have to except their offer of $2,200? Also, if I except this offer is this separate from the medical side of my claim? Thank You in advanced.""

Car Insurance and deductible payment?
My car window got smashed in and my windshield got cracked from vandalism. Nothing was stolen. I am taking my car in for inspection today. My question is, if my car deductible is $500, and if the resulting cost of the repair is less than the deductible, do I have to pay the deductible? It just doesn't seem correct to pay $250 each month, and then have to pay on top of that $500 for a repair that we could have saved up to pay for? Retire at 55? In Brazil, It’s the Norm. But Can the Good Times Last?
By Shasta Darlington, NY Times, Feb. 25, 2018
SÃO PAULO, Brazil--In much of the world, workers would find it hard to imagine being able to retire at 55, earning 70 percent of their final salary for the rest of their lives.
But in Brazil, that has been the norm for decades, which helps explain the abundance of silver-haired joggers along Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro at 11 a.m. on a recent weekday.
It also accounts for about a third of all government spending in Brazil, and contributed to a record budget deficit in 2016.
Analysts and politicians across the political spectrum have long recognized that the pension system is unsustainable and a major factor in the country’s continuing economic struggles.
“Brazil has one of the most generous systems in the world,” said Chris Garman, managing director of the Americas for the Eurasia Group, a political risk consultancy. But without a pension overhaul, he added, “Brazil is heading for insolvency and debt crisis.”
A jarring reminder of that came last month when Standard & Poor’s downgraded the credit rating of Brazil, Latin America’s largest economy, sending it even further into so-called junk territory, or below investment grade. The downgrade came amid dimming hopes that Brazil’s Congress would reform the country’s social security system during this election year.
It turns out the ratings agency was right. President Michel Temer and Congress have now officially given up on trying to pass any pension legislation--handing off the problem until after the October election.
On Friday, Fitch Ratings followed suit, also cutting Brazil’s credit rating.
Mr. Temer had vowed that pension reform would be one of his signature achievements when he was sworn in after the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff in 2016. But instead of enacting what he had billed as a business-friendly agenda, his presidency has been notable for its turbulence and scandals.
The Temer administration worked with Congress to create pension overhaul legislation for both public- and private-sector workers that, among other changes, would set the minimum retirement age at 65 for men and 62 for women. Currently, there is no minimum retirement age.
Mr. Temer sought to build support for the proposal with a simple, bleak warning plastered across government websites and promoted in a social media campaign: “Everyone for social security reform so Brazil doesn’t go bankrupt.”
But despite Mr. Temer’s stated determination, a decision he made this month effectively blocked any further movement on the pension proposal. He signed a decree to put the military in charge of security in Rio de Janeiro to rein in violent crime, and under Brazil’s Constitution, lawmakers are barred from making broad legal changes during any military intervention.
Mr. Temer initially insisted the pension overhaul could still be voted on by temporarily lifting the security decree. But the dire warning about bankruptcy disappeared from government websites this past week, and both the president of the Senate, Eunício Oliveira, and the political affairs minister, Carlos Marun, have since said the bill has been shelved.
“After debating and consulting with judges from the Supreme Court, the conclusion is that the reform is suspended as a result of the decree for intervention,” Mr. Marun told journalists last week.
The court’s opinion was not the only factor. Mr. Marun conceded that “we don’t have the votes to approve the reform--I couldn’t guarantee the government that we would have them by the end of February.”
Even some of Mr. Temer’s supporters said that the president had issued the security decree, in part, to avoid an embarrassing loss in Congress.
“It was an excuse to avoid the vote--the nail in the coffin of pension reform,” said Congressman Alex Canziani, a member of the governing coalition.
The timing of the pension debate could hardly have been worse for supporters of an overhaul. With elections in the fall, few lawmakers are willing to tell voters they will have to work longer and then get less money in their golden years.
Selling that message to the electorate is especially hard given how unpopular the country’s political elite has become amid an avalanche of corruption scandals and growing scrutiny of the high salaries and generous perks that lawmakers and other federal employees enjoy.
“It doesn’t fly when voters are angry at politicians,” Mr. Garman, the political consultant, said. Voter reaction, he added, has been one of outrage: “‘You’re stealing from us and now you expect us to work more?’”
Elisabete Lopes Santos, 57 and retired, agrees. “Everyone contributed to the pension system--how could it be broke? The money was siphoned off,” she said.
On average, men in Brazil retire at 56 and women at 53, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which concluded that the system was unsustainable.
The longer someone works, the more they earn in retirement. Retirees receive an average of 70 percent of their pre-retirement salary, and the amount is indexed to a constantly climbing minimum wage. When pension recipients die, widows and widowers may inherit the full pension of their spouse and add it to their own.
Pension spending in Brazil rose to 8.2 percent of gross domestic product in 2016 from 4.6 percent in 2014. Brazil’s population is comparatively young compared to the global median, and pension spending could soar to 17 percent of its G.D.P. by 2060 if the rules remain unchanged.
Pension distribution is highly unequal, according to the World Bank, with 35 percent of pension subsidies--the part of the pension that isn’t accrued worker contributions--paid out to the richest 20 percent. The poorest 20 percent receive just 4 percent of pension subsidies.
“I know there won’t be enough money to cover my retirement if the government doesn’t do something,” said Edmilson Santos, a 28-year-old Uber driver. “But I don’t have any faith that they won’t just keep helping the same politicians and public workers that have always benefited.”

About My Crown
Tumblr media
Welcome to Straighten My Crown, my name is Alice Brown.  I started this blog as a project for seminary, although it has turned into something more for me.  My hopes are to inspire, challenge and encourage you to pursue God and bask in the fullness He has for you, no matter what the season.  This is something I don’t claim to be perfect at doing but it’s something that I can say is the desire of my heart, for not only myself but for others too.  My heart is for you to see yourself the way He sees you.  “You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.” ~Isaiah 62:3.
“What worked in the wilderness, won’t work in the promise land.”
It is time to claim victory over thing(s) in your life you have been struggling with the most.  Turn them into the thing(s) you used to struggle with.  God wants us to have a story of victory.  He wants us to continually approach the throne in confidence (as He says in Hebrews 14:6), in every situation.  If we focus on the victories, even the little ones that God has given us, confidence begins to come more and more naturally.  How quickly we grasp this is up to us.  God can do 4 years of work in 4 months, 4 weeks or even 4 days.  How willing are we to allow Him to do that work?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the second to youngest of five girls, I was pretty goofy, very creative and quite adventurous.  I spent most my time pretending, dreaming, running around the house singing at the top of my lungs, climbing trees to escape and think through life’s mysteries, imagining with my little sister or finding way to pester all my sisters, at least until they would yell for mom or dad.  Things have changed a bit but not too much.  I don’t climb trees to escape anymore…these days, being that I have three children, a husband and two Great Danes that follow me throughout the house, going to the grocery store is the best escape I seem to muster up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My parents were determined to give us a biblical foundation whether we were part of a church or not.  At the time, I would not have admitted it but I am so very thankful for that.  My parents were married for 47 years before my dad died.  Dad worked for the Boeing for 43 years, retiring at the age of 65.  I would say my parents truly represented commitment for me.  They taught me that when I committed to something, to give it my all and my best.  They also taught me, things may not work out as I had planned.  Mom and Dad persevered through some really good times and some very bad times.  The thing I appreciated the most, is that it really wasn’t hidden from us.  I am aware there are things we just did not know, but most of everything was a family affair.  I learned a great deal that way; one thing in particular, that human beings are not perfect and do not always have the answer.
I was introduced to Jesus at a very young age.  I fully understood the commitment I was making to him at 8 years old.  I knew I was His forever.  Even though I did not know what being significant and belonging to Him looked like…I did know there in lies the journey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My journey of acceptance started taking off in my teenage years in the Baptist church.  Then things got rocky when I got pregnant (out of wedlock) at the age of 20, then into an abusive marriage to someone with serious substance abuse issues, to divorce, to single mom life for many years; my life has consisted of ups and downs.   The one true and consistent thing…was Him.  He stayed with me through every single step.  I am thankful for the life I have lived and I do not have one regret.  Each chapter of my life, has molded and shaped me into the woman I am now.   You are only reading a few details of a few chapters…if you keep reading, the story only gets better.  The Author is absolutely amazing!
Tumblr media
God took the time to redeem every moment, to clean up my mess and straighten my crown.  I met an incredible man who has only encouraged me to grow and heal.  When I had my second child, I started longing to be part of a church family again.  Over time we started going to The Rock and were never the same.   I met Holy Spirit on my knees one evening and have never looked back.  Being from a Baptist background, I had never experience God on that level.  In a very short time, it was all true, there was no doubt.  The Word was true, He was undeniably real and my life was forever changed.
By the time I had my third child, it had really sunk in that it was an absolute necessity for me to find time for just God and I.  The past two years has been that journey.  It was not until recently that I came to the conclusion and complete understanding that my time with the Father may not look like what I thought.  It may not be sitting in my house of silence, with a nice cup of coffee, my journal, my Bible and a nice long hour to soak in Him as much as I want.  It is just not that season.  Right now it is a season of littles running through my living room, jumping from couch to chair to rug, dodging the hot lava or tea parties in the living room with lifeless stuffed animals, or fighting for my children to maintain self control long enough to get through a couple of hours of homeschool.  All the while trying to maintain my sanity and finish seminary, let alone some quiet time to meditate on Him and pray.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ABSOLUTE JOY!
Now that I am 40 years old and have only just in the past few years, found where my needs are truly met.   The only place I can be fulfilled, is in His presence.   There are many tables (that may temporarily fill my needs) that I am invited to sit at but He has prepared a table before me, with a smorgasbord of the things in life I need to not just survive, but live.  To live out the calling He has for me.  To live my life completely and utterly for Him.  I may be amongst my enemies but I will plant my heels where they are, take a seat and trust my most gracious Host to provide me with all that I need to feel completely satisfied…to feel significant and like I belong.
I am His daughter…the daughter of the One True King.  I am royalty and I DOwear a crown.  My crown might be crooked on days, but there is rest for me, in knowing I am His.  I find my peace and joy in that alone.  He never asked us to clean up or straighten our crown when we dine with Him.  He will handle the clean up and He will straighten my crown.
