higuruma is....or can be a little bit, tiny little smidge I need to be youthfully felt 'cause, God, I never felt young coded.
am i being indulgent?? maybe that's my brand. or my mood.
but i do think...he was the kinda kid about whom teachers would write: "hiromi-san is very mature for his age" at PTA meetings or in his report cards. I also like to think he unnerved them by being a bit too astute as a 9 or 10 year old haha.
but what made him grow up so fast is the question...one of the questions. Easy to think he had or give him intellectuals/academic types for parents but I think it would be even more fascinating if they were rather ordinary folks, to create that sense of distance. The unique isolation of being supported but not understood by people who love you...they go from being proud and impressed of their little prodigy to being somewhat intimidated, like they're sorta unprepared to provide him the best resources and optimise his evidently abundant potential especially if he's nothing like their other children. Purely speculative but to me he gives strong only child or second son vibes...id quite like to explore a sibling rivalry dynamic with an older brother maybe....Though i think he'd be an interesting older brother too oh, what if i gave him a step-sister or younger cousin who lives with them, that could be cute
maybe this estranged sibling figure's parents are going through a rough patch or something. Yeah...An (extended?) family set up that alerts higuruma to the imperfections or brokenness of the world early on --- except, at such a young age, his preconceptions of what a 'whole' family even is isn't firmly configured.Instead that imperfection or minor tragedy (eg of a strained marriage) becomes normalised, he sees how people cope with it on an ordinary day to day basis without making a big fuss (parents shielded but didn't coddle them from it?) and how 'natural' survival looks, how unremarkable and quietly the collateral of grief plays out and can be...
KidHiromi...so precious...can't wait to figure out his backstory... to feel those traces ripple in his adulthood~
