Hi,
Before answering your question, I want to specify that a healthy lifestyle which includes a healthy diet and daily physical activity is a long term goal, so when you incorporate healthy habits to your lifestyle you have to stick to them for the rest of your life.
With that being said, before answering your question we’ll analyze exercise and nutrition and depth, so you can get a clear idea on what to focus on. Exercising on a daily basis is an important component for reaching your goal, but for best results, you will have to pay a little bit more attention to what you eat.
EXERCISING: First off, it is recommended to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily, so if you are not physically active on a daily basis I would strongly recommend you to do so - get 30 minutes of physical activity daily! You could divide your workout session into 2 sets  of 15 minutes each - a 15 minutes cardio and 15 minutes toning exercises including sit-ups, crunches, V-ups, leg-lifting  - 15 in the morning and 15 in the evening. A 15 minutes cardio (jogging, running…) to help burn the fat (obtain a flat stomach) and a 15 minutes strength training (stomach exercises) to tone the stomach. You’re probably wondering why not just doing cardio if it burns the fat - why adding some strength training to that… Well here’s why:  what burns calories nonstop is actually the lean muscle mass underneath the body fat that allows more intake of calories without weight gain. Obviously, to kick that tummy fat, simply doing crunches or pushups won’t be enough.
To help you choose what exercise is best for you here’s what a research led at the Biomechanics Lab at San Diego State University found by taking a look at some popular abdominal exercises and ranking them: exercises that require constant abdominal stabilization and body rotation resulted in the most muscle activity in the abdomen. Below are the top five belly exercises as ranked by the study: image
imageIn sum, even if cardio is an component when it comes to shedding some tummy fat – including toning exercise that work your muscles will maximize the results as muscles contribute to burning more calories (even after a workout your body is still gonna burn calories). Also it is important to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily if you wanna see and maximize the results!
DIETING: As I mentioned earlier on, you will have to pay extra attention to what you eat and as I’m sure you know you WILL have to eat healthily during these two months. You don’t have to be a health freak, but here are some of my nutrition and diet tips that I think might help you and guide you during these two (I usually use them when I have to get in extra good shape for the varsity track and field season):
TIP 1: Try to balance your diet with low amounts of fat, well bad fats such as the saturated fat. Replace them by unsaturated fats (avocados, seeds…). Also, VEGETABLES AND FRUITS will be your best friends during these two months! imageTIP 2: Include some form of protein with each meal or snack, whether that’s lean meat or poultry, low-fat dairy, plant-based protein such as nuts or beans. Not only protein will help you build muscles, but they will also help you feel more satisfied. If you love avocados you will love the avocado smoothie (it is Vietnamese); my best friend - who’s Vietnamese introduced me to this smoothie and since then I fell in love with it. All you need is:
Avocados Ice cubes, Condensed milk Carnation milk or normal milk, but with carnation milk it tastes better! And a blender of course :P I usually drink it before and after my training! It is full of protein!!
An example of a meal could be a salad with a piece of meat…If you’re vegetarian you can replace the meat by beans, avocados…etc.
TIP 3: Cut on your amount of refined carbs (white rice, white bread, pasta, plus cakes, candies, cookies). Replace these foods with healthier alternatives such as whole grain bread – whole grain pasta, brown or yellow rice, rice crackers and whenever possible, choose whole grain, high fiber options.
TIP 4: Decrease your sodium intake! Too much of the mineral can you can leave you feeling bloated and undermine your results. Reduce your intake by avoiding packaged and canned foods as much as possible and reaching for the whole, unprocessed kind instead. When you go shopping, look for low-sodium broths, soups, lunch meat, and so on and when cooking, season with herbs and spices before grabbing the salt shaker. Avoid packaged, processed foods (the less you eat of these, the better!)
TIP 5: Drink tea, especially green tea. Green tea does wonder trust me. Not only it prevents cancer, but it is rich in a special fat-burning compound called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). This catechins has been shown in cellular studies to prevent the growth and differentiation of adipocytes (fat cells), which is how and why belly fat occurs in the first place. Research catechins and EGCg and you will be amazed by all the amazing benefits found in studies. However, if like certain you don’t like the taste of green tea or simply don’t have the time to make some you can buy green tea extracts. Personally, I used the Holista brand (60% Catechins – 25% EGCg) – Not try to do any promotion here! TIP 6: The last but not least, DRINK LOTS OF WATER! Keep a water bottle with you to help you stay hydrated.
In conclusion, I want you to remember that these tips aren’t only for two months. As I mentioned at the beginning healthy habits should follow you for the rest of your life. Being healthy isn’t a phase, but it is a lifestyle. I tried my best and gave you all of my tips, I hope it helped. But once again as I always mentioned in my replies I am not a health expert (only minoring in social sciences of health); my knowledge is not as detailed as a health specialist one (registered dietician, doctor, fitness instructor).
