philza is one of the few natural hybrids on the island. he's a crow, obviously, with big beautiful midnight black wings. he soars above everyone else's heads from day one, the sunlight glinting off his wings. its why he lives on the wall, he just likes being high up.

when the federation took him in, they clipped his wings. so he could still glide, but could no longer fly properly. they also fucked with his memory during the procedure, so trying to remember what exactly happened is next to impossible. he's not even sure he had wings before coming to the island.

missa is a human, like most of the other islanders. when he gets kidnapped by the federation for genetic testing, he doesn't go home afterwards. he wanders the land, hoping to somehow find a way that he can prove his skill to his husband and son.

he collects dogs along the way, but they may only follow him for a chance to chew on his arms. he rattles around the forest, no longer fearful of the skeletons that surround him. they don't fire at him anymore.

he returns home, unrecognizable to his husband now if not for his voice calling out for him to please lower his sword, and the large midnight black feather hanging around his neck.
