only from you
pairing. levy x assistant!reader pronouns. unspecified synopsis. as aggravating as he is, you’ve fallen for him too
It was when Levy swung open his office door and completely glossed over you, his harried assistant, that you finally reached your breaking point. You had been trying to reach him for hours now. Between a dozen visits from angry “partners” of his, and a dozen more apologies to each of them, it seemed Levy was avoiding everyone who knew him, and left you on damage control.
“Levy! Where were you?” If your dark eyebags weren’t evidence enough, you were beyond exhausted — with work, his attitude, and frankly even the sight of him now.
“What? I had meetings.” Never dropping the self-satisfied smirk on his face, he shrugged before plopping onto his leather sofa. Then he looked around the room a bit, his eyes landing on a vase atop the table beside him. He plucked a few of its roses and waved them your way. “I got you flowers.”
“I got those flowers.” You scooped up a pile of papers from Levy’s desk and handed them to him. He’d already kicked his legs up onto the ottoman, elbows draped over the backrest. An obnoxious sigh later, he started leafing through them.
“You should get back to that actor of yours,” you continued. “He wouldn’t quit calling. And he wasn’t the only one that frantic to reach you, Levy. Really, what’s the matter with you?”
In between scanning the papers you handed him — all diligent notes in your writing — Levy flicked his blue eyes up to meet yours. “They’ll be fine. I’m just leaving space to wring a little desperation out of them. Let it fester long enough and they’ll mellow out some, start agreeing to a lot more. You know.”
“I don’t care how you work with your clients,” you turned back to tidy up the deskspace a little, “but leaving me to deal with the brunt of it? Next time I’m blocking them all.”
“They’re more receptive to you,” he insisted. “That’s why you’re good at what you do. Anyway, I talked to a couple before I came here. Promise.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Levy caught a brief eyeroll from you before you reached for your bag. Maybe it was instinctive, or maybe a little desperation of his own, but he pulled himself upright once he realized you were planning to leave. You turned back to find him standing just an arm away. But whatever he needed was of no concern to you; you worked around him to continue gathering your things.
His next words spilled out before he could catch them.
“Hey, stay a little longer.”
“No, it’s late. And my head’s splitting apart.” But you still considered it — despite everything, you softened up some when it came to Levy.
“You could crash here for the night. I’ll make you something.”
At that, you paused, and shot him a look. He raised his arms with a sheepish smile. Levy didn’t do favors—you both knew that. He pulled this kind of stunt with his flings before, but never with people that mattered. So whether or not for the reason he intended, you slowly set down your bag again. All while eyeing him up and down.
“What are you hiding?”
Levy’s grin widened. “Nothing—!”
“Yes you are. Why don’t you want me to leave?”
“Is it that hard to believe I just missed my cute little assistant~?” Levy had always been fond of feeding into suspicions for fun. There was no denying that fake tone of voice. Even if his words did hold some truth to them, you knew better than to believe them.
“Is someone outside?” You stepped around him, snatching his phone from where he left it on the sofa. His work cell had nothing you didn’t already know. Full of missed calls, mostly from you.
“I wasn’t lying,” Levy reached for your hand to take back his phone. Then he enveloped an arm around the back of your neck, gently reeling you closer. “I do miss you these days. At least let me drive you home.”
No matter how sincere a look he gave you, some degree of doubt would always hang over the back of your mind. But at the same time, those eyes were so easy to get lost in.
“You’re unbelievable,” you told him.
Whether he was honest or not, for a moment, the temptation to believe in his words felt too enticing to pass up.
“You know I’m not letting you off the hook because of this,” you tore your gaze away, and shrugged his arm off your shoulders. “...Fine. Just this once.”
