I Saw The TV Glow (2024) was rough. i watched it on vc with some friends, and one of them certainly didn't quite grasp it. i wonder what it was like to watch it and not feel it crawl inside your soul and start tearing down the walls you worked so hard to construct. how much sense does this movie make to someone who hasn't seen the glow? is it a meaningless series of over-dramatic portrait shots in moody lighting? is it about the dangers of watching tv too much as a kid?

post-movie, the cis friend lamented that the whole thing was a bad experience. i agree with him, but i don't think we share a reason. im glad i watched it, but i hope i never see it again. i'll buy it on bluray to hide it in the back of my bookshelf and never look at it until its time to move out. i want to hold it in my hands so that i can file it away where it can't hurt me anymore, but i want to hold it all the same. because it hurts. but it hurts because i've never seen a movie like this.

i think it belongs next to What Dreams May Come (1998) and A Silent Voice (2016). i've never seen myself on the screen like this before. and now that i have, i don't want to ever again. thank you for making this movie. i love it with whatever heart i have left to give, and it's going to haunt me for a very long time.

I saw it for my birthday! I haven’t been on tumblr since before it came out but i have NOT STOPPED TALKING ABOUT THIS MOVIE, i have literally thought about it every single day since i saw it and its definitely 10/10

Everyone did such a phenomenal job, im so glad they had the same director who knew all the lore and everything, the casting was incredible, i loved that they had big names like Viola Davis and Peter Dinklage but also brought in newer and lesser known actors for the younger cast i thought that was really cool

Im a big visual person and and a technical theatre kid so i was simply in awe of the set and costuming, it was just so beautiful to look at in every way this film truly blew me away

I mentioned before i was worried that it would be difficult to show what Coryo was thinking because, as a manipulative narcissist, he doesn’t let his true emotions through often, and while there could never be as much detail as in the books i really believe they did the absolute best of their ability to show what he is thinking and that was very impressive! Its all in those beautiful blue eyes

It was sad we didnt get to see more of the Covey because i think showing Lucy Grays relationship with her family really parallels Katniss’ relationship with Prim and Rue, but i get why they had to cut it out for times sake (RELEASE THE DELETED FOOTAGE)

I have had the soundtrack on repeat for days, i adore the bonus songs (and tbh its gotten me into bluegrass again) they are so catchy and so fully of meaning and raw emotion aahhhh

It was so exciting seeing these scenes that i enjoyed reading so much appear on screen, it was such a faithful adaptation, and even better, it seemed like every change made was purposeful, it wasn’t changed for the sake a being different from the book, it was intentional

Im just obsessed with the parallels and the explanation of why katniss terrifies snow so much, i think it (the book and movie) did a great job explaining why snow does what he does and how he gets to where he ends up with sympathy, but without excusing any of his actions which is very important.

I could go on and on and on about the meanings and implications and what it means for our society today but im guessing if you are reading this you already know all that haha

TLDR: i though the movie was fantastic, best birthday present i could have, cant wait till it comes out on streaming/bluray, it wasn’t without flaws but it was pretty darn close, incredible in every way, great job everyone

Now for some Bloom Into You thoughts!!! Ill put it under a read more since its easy to hide lots of text that way & just in case anyone new is looking into the series they can avoid the read more spoilers. I loved it a lot :3

To no ones surprise now that i have all the manga i finished the main bloom into you story (so have the anthology manga and the 3 spin off light novels now!) Volume 3 & 7 got delivered today, i had the rest and read 1 & 2, and then 3 - 8 all got read today lol.

It was very cute!!! I can see why a lot of ppl treat it as a good "beginner" yuri/gl story for ppl to get into the genre with & a good "what if i like girls" story for self discovery. Very cute coming of age, dealing with finding out what kind of person you are, what love means to you, how your actions can accidentally impact others & make them upset in complex ways, why communicating is so important.

I really liked the change up of the play being a way for Yuu to push Touko into accepting who /she/ is rather than living on as her sisters replacement. It hurt so much seeing her bury her feelings for long, and have no one to talk to about it to process what shes feeling. Poor babygirl was suffering so bad, and couldnt tell anyone. Im glad Maki didnt beat around the bush at the batting cage, and that Saeki got the courage to confess and tell her definition of love which really helped Touko. Im excited to read her story in the light novels!! Im glad we get her perspective and eventually her love <3

And it had some side characters who are adults and gay which was really nice. I enjoyed the ending a lot too, it didn't just flat end at "we accept we love each other mutually" it went beyond that (was spicy but also got some time skip panels too, makes me excited for if the anthologies or LNs have any post ending stories and such). And the rings!!!!! I hope they werent just "cute ring" but like engagement rings of some sort. Ik touko didnt really care for labels, but it would be so cute if she was the one to propose and show yuu she does care and considers yuus feelings abt couply stuff. Also the "were girlfriends right" lil bit was adorable, and then shoving the parents out so they could be together in the house. And the dream of them being together (been there Yuu) and touko like validating that feeling of "of course well be together and live together in the future". Also Yuus sister internally clocking "my sisters gay' and being happy for her and supportive, such a good sister. So many gay lil happy thoughts.

Since the bluray was 50% off today got that on the way (i think the anime only ever got to like the 5th? Manga volume before ending from what i read? It was mentioned in one of the afterwords too) so thatll be exciting to watch too.

And then i can start the whisper me a love song once the extra bloom stuff is read! It seems cute, i mainly got it cause theres an anime adaptation coming soon and ppl were excited abt it so i figured why not read it and have the anime to look forward to!

unfortunately the reason why you could only find subs for #1 and #2 is that EN fan subs have only managed to get to blue glitter atm. thats because the general rule of thumb is to wait for the Bluray Disc copies of the plays to release so that they can translate the """"official version""" (since, ykno, stageplays by nature are never the same as each other) and #3 BD only released july this year while edel delight was literally held (iirc) just this feb 2022 so its gonna take awhile :')

a relatively recent additional side concern reason of waiting for the BD releases is like... plausible deniability of sorts? because revstar only started allowing international streaming with Blue Glitter actually so, originally really, we Do have to wait for the BD to even see what went down in the plays.

now we got international streams so translators can Technically start working on the plays earlier BUT since japan takes its copyright piracy laws really Seriously, posting screenshots of a play that should have only been livestreamed would shout to the company that ppl are pirating the show rather than paying so they might remove the international streaming option again,,, so screenshots from a subbed BD would give the plausible deniability that ppl posting the photos also bought the BD ✌

(this tbh is rly more of a twitter issue bc the staff and actresses are literally on that platform so screaming piracy right in front of where theyre also looking is just a bad idea all around)

Secondly, WELCOME TO THE FANDOM! We love having y’all here, and I’m honoured that you enjoy my blog and content! Also will comment on your praise on my meta here: THANK YOU. I’m very proud of my meta, and especially the SHEER AMOUNT of it I have produced still boggles me mind. Y’all remember when I was creative and thoughtful??? LOL S4 dragged me hard hahah. I still try to write S4 meta, just not as much as I used to. I like speculating, I truly do, but I have so little free time these days because of the nature of my full time job, so I tend to just... do nothing LOL. I find Fic Reccing really relaxing when you have nearly 800 bookmarks. I’m worried I’m becoming stale though. Oh well. I’m just trying to leave my mark here. <3

Thirdly, HAHHAH Thank you for your compliment about my replies to my asks; I genuinely wish I could get more asks finished every day, but I tend to ramble, as you can see, and I just... don’t finish them in a timely manner. Honestly, it’s a relief when I don’t know something because I can then get the community involved to help me out AND I also get new fic recs that way too LOL. I also draft a TONNE of asks and when I do that, I tend to just keep adding MORE and MORE and MORE so I have to post them, LOL. 

And finally: My fave episode is TAB; it was the episode I studied the closest and my analysis of the trailer is my “claim to fame”. I just love it to bits. It’s the episode I’ve watched the most. S3 is my fave season, and it’s the SEASON I’ve watched the most, no less than 30 or 40 times. Season 2, then 1. I have only seen S4 like 5 times in full total, and horribly enough, TFP is the most-watched episode: I watched the Leak, the airdate, and I went and saw it in the theatres because I already bought the ticket before it aired so I just... didn’t care. And then at least 3 more times in Watchalongs. So yeah :| I still haven’t watched the BluRay I bought, but I hated having an incomplete set so I bought it when it went on sale fore 10 bucks LOL.

But yeah, S1 and 2 I watched together, and I LOVED the show. I joined fandom the summer before S3 aired, and S3 is when I REALLY got into the fandom. I’ve been pretty much here since then, about 7 years I think now. When I saw S4, it was incredulity and disappointment with it. That’s really it. I’m still a fence sitter these days about the series as a whole, but I’m leaning more and more to “no S5 for at least 3 more years” kinda thing. Just... everyone involved seems so disinterested in the show these days, minus Mofftiss to keep pushing the Sherlock™ Brand to make money.

1: Talk about the first time you watched your favorite movie. my favorite movie is sleeping beauty (1959) and i actually only watched it the first time like the summer before i started high school, so like,,,,,, 2012. and all i had was this shitty early 2000s dvd with the stupid foldover flap thing instead of a traditional dvd or bluray case???? but i watched it and was just. captivated. bc it’s so stunning visually. the artwork and the character designs. and the music!!!! god, my musical ass was in love. i was in a Not Great headspace when i watched it and i kinda just fell head over heels in love with it because it took me out of my head for a while and i could just listen to it and watch it for hours. i had so many versions of once upon a dream saved onto my phone for when i would have anxiety and panic attacks, and when i couldn’t sleep bc of nightmares or aforementioned attacks i would listen to it on loop for hours or just sing it and “i wonder” to myself until i fell asleep. even now i own the entire ost and listen to it when i’m feeling anxious or stressed. like i just love sleeping beauty so much and it’ll always hold a special place in my heart for being my escape when i needed it and i just,,,, love it a heck of a lot tbh

8: Talk about the thing you are most proud of. i??? dont know. im proud of my writing. i’m proud that i’ve been able to write about my life experiences through my fanfiction and it’s touched people. i’m happy that there are people who have been affected by my writing and have accepted and gotten help for the mental health. so????

24: Talk about something someone told you that meant a lot. i had this friend in hs, who actually was my best friend my freshman and first part of my sophomore year, who told me once that she was glad black veil brides existed, and when i asked why (bc bvb was our fav band, and i mean i agreed w her but didn’t understand) she said it was bc she knew how important bvb was to me and that when i was su//icidal it was their lyrics that got me through a lot of it. she said she was glad they existed bc she didn’t know if i would’ve been there if not for them. it’s been almost 5 years and i still dont know how to respond

32: Talk about a place you remember from your childhood. there was this playground like 3 minutes from my house when i lived in virginia that was honestly so good to me i stg. and it was basically in the center of the housing so any time we had like community gatherins it was always there???? anyways, i remember all of us carolers met up there and just sang christmas carols for at least an hour omg. another time, all the kids gathered in one of the towers and we just sang shitty off-key versions of our favorite tv show theme songs. it was #splendid

36: Talk about your guilty pleasures. I’VE SPENT ALL WEEK WANTING TO REWATCHING STEP UP 2. honestly,,, those kinds of movies are my all-time favorites. like drama romances, usually dance movies but ALSO any of the cinderella movies??? like the one with hillary duff and the one with selena gomez???? honestly those awful teen romance drama movies are my JAM
