So this tweet made the rounds on librarian reddit and a few other librarian pages that i'm on and, uh, collectively we all have to say

Absolutely the fuck not!

Some points:

The library I work for (and many other urban/suburban libraries) are already open until nine fucking PM at night. We already do offer occasionally after hours programming, like trivia nights and movie screenings. Y'all just aren't fucking peeping the library calendar.

Library worker pay is hot garbage at best. You would need to pay us significantly more to deal with whatever nonsense we'd get through our doors. And add 25% more staff. At least. Library admin would NEVER do this because generally speaking many library boards and admins give ZERO fucks about us.

There ARE public non bar nighttime things that you can do in your community! (ex: board game cafes)

Why the FUCK do people constantly need to ask us to do MORE shit than we already do and wear MORE hats than we already do, while also not fucking paying us more money or giving us more resources???? Once again, peep the library events calendars y'all and you can see that we are doing a SHIT TON of stuff and wearing a lot of hats already. Start more non alcohol groups yourself; open night cafes or whatever idk.

We ALREADY do a lot of stuff. All y'all posting stupid stuff like this just don't fucking show up for it. Y'all already don't come to the library.

edit, i peeped the notes on this post and they were as i expected, the only people raising reasons about why this is stupid were ALL library workers.
