a few months ago (maybe over a year?) in an antique store in asbury park i saw this painting of witches and i thought it was charming and strange and it made me think of two things previously unconnected in my mind: marge simpson anime and portrait of a lady on fire. i didn’t buy it because i thought it was a little too expensive and im a terrible haggler. but in the subsequent (however long) i couldn’t stop thinking about it. when me and hannah were interior decorating our new apartment i kept saying to her, wistfully, “i wish i had bought the witches”.
today my mom was over in that area and went in to check if it was still there for me; i hadn’t taken a picture so i had to wrack my brain to try and remember the dimensions and the composition; i kept saying it was long and short and i couldn’t remember if they were really witches or just a bunch of green and black smudges that my brain had parsed as a coven. but i knew exactly where it had been (to the right of the checkout counter leaning against the wall) and she couldn’t find it there when she checked. in a last-ditch effort she asked the clerk if it had been moved (i think things in this store rarely move unless they have been sold). but in fact, it was there, behind the counter: someone had shattered the glass yesterday and they took it off the floor. but they were willing to sell it for a reduced price. and now it is mine.

the title is El Desfile (The Parade) (although it might have a longer title that got cut off at some point) by Honduran painter Ezequiel Padilla Ayestas

Favourite movies
I was tagged in this by @imsfire2. Sorry it’s taken me a while to do it!
RULES: Answer the following questions! You can only use each movie once.
Favourite movie: I’ve come to the realisation that I very much prescribe to Jeremy Renner’s thinking on this - I don’t have a singular all time favourite movie. I have lots of favourites for different occasions. Which I am sure we will come to below.
Movie that makes you remember your childhood: The Land Before Time - it was the last film I watched at the old Odeon before it closed down. I went with my best friend at the time - no adults with us - and we ate sweets from a paper bag.
Favourite Tom Hanks movie: You’ve Got Mail or The Terminal I love both but I’d lean towards You’ve Got Mail. Bridge of Spies which was Ims choice is also excellent.
Movie that makes you cry: There are so many. I’m such a sap. Usually anything Pixar is guaranteed so I’m going to go with Big Hero 6 - but special mention to Edward Scissorhands.
Favourite 80’s movie: Stand By Me
Favourite comedy: The Princess Bride
Favourite sports movie: Not a big fan of this genre as don’t really do sports, but I do remember really liking The Greatest Game Ever Played
Favourite courtroom movie: Okay I wracked my brain and google on this one. I just think courtroom dramas are so boring. The only one I can think of that had courtroom elements that I have enjoyed recently was the wonderful Official Secrets. Genuinely can’t think of another that I could put in this category but it’s not a favourite really, it’s not one I can ever envisage wanting to own but it is a great movie.
Favourite war movie: Testament of Youth. So beautiful. So moving.
Favourite animated movie: I’ve already used Big Hero 6 so will have to be WALL·E or Monsters Inc
Favourite horror movie: Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan - It’s my favourite for the title alone.
Most overrated/underrated movie: Bourne - Here’s why
Overrated: All of the Bourne films except: Underrated: The Bourne Legacy
And here’s why - everyone goes on about how great the Bourne films are (BETTER THAN BOND etc) but honestly I found them SO boring! And everyone HATES The Bourne Legacy because it’s not Matt Damon. Personally (yes I know I am biased because it’s Jeremy AND Oscar) I think it’s a much better film overall, it has a better plot, and yes I would much rather watch Jeremy for 2 hours than Matt bloody Damon.
Favourite gangster movie: Stolen from Ims - The Town, also The Kitchen if you’re looking for all female badasses instead
Movie you can watch over and over: Zodiac, also on the complete other end of the spectrum - Labyrinth
Movie with the best soundtrack: There are lots of soundtracks that have a few (or even some that have a lot of) really great tracks, but there aren’t that many that I would listen to all the way through. I would agree with Ims on Begin again, but also mention Dirty Dancing and Sing Street.
Most embarrassing movie you love: I’m not embarrassed - see next post - but one people would probably think I *should* be embarrassed by is Bubble Boy, or She’s The Man
Favourite Christmas movie: It’s A Wonderful Life
Favourite sequel: Last one I’ve stolen from Ims I promise - The Empire Strikes Back - I mean come on, Yoda. What other sequel could beat Yoda?
Tagging: @arms-and-arrows as Ims pretty much tagged everyone else I talk to on this site and I don’t want to be annoying by tagging them again. But I will also add anyone else who wants to!  But only if you want to!!
