rpf!!!!
jealousy is so hot i said what i said :0
psa : i will write about lucy/julien too i promise im just an unapologetic phoebe girlie first and foremost 😓
the bar was loud. it was almost impossible to hear anything over the noise of the band and you felt yourself being jostled from all angles by the crowd of people around you. more than once you found yourself being pushed into your friend phoebe who was standing next to you almost protectively, glaring at the backs of everyone who dared stand too close. you'd know phoebe a long time, having lived in the same neighbourhood as lucy for most of your childhood, and remained friends into your adult years so it was only natural that you were integrated into her friend group. of course you liked her, how could you not, but you had long since made peace with the fact that she didn't feel the same way so you were content in the friend zone.
admittedly, you hadn't been looking forward to tonight. you wanted nothing more than to go home and climb into bed after a long day, but you had missed your friends too much to cancel. the three of them had been on tour for the last few months, so when a break appeared in their schedule you couldn't find it in yourself to say no. you had gone for dinner first, catching up and filling each other in on things that had happened since you had last spoken. the decision to come to a busy bar afterwards had probably not been the best however, the conversation steering into shouting to try and be heard over the music. you were still enjoying yourself though, realising how much you had missed the boys. you motioned to your friends that you were going to get another round but you couldn't tell if they had actually heard you. making eye contact with lucy you motioned your head towards the bar and she nodded, thankfully understanding.
reaching the bar you were grateful to realise that it was a lot quieter. pushing yourself closer to the front you ordered quickly and stood patiently waiting for your drinks to be made, tapping your fingers on the wood. you were only half paying attention to your surroundings when you heard someone calling your name, glancing back you looked around slightly confused before your eyes found your old college roommate making her way towards you. pulling her in for a hug you couldn't help the huge grin that formed on your face, you hadn't seen her for a year or so despite you guys being really close throughout college, you were sure she had liked you at one point too but you had only ever seen her as a friend.
'it's been too long' she said in disbelief, giving you a once over with her eyes, 'hardly recognised you, how've you been'. you two made small talk for a few minutes, her running her hands over your arm in what you hoped was a friendly way. it was great reminiscing over old times and you found yourself leaning closer to hear more clearly, laughing at whatever dumb joke she had made, but just as you were about to grab the drinks to make your way back, phoebe appeared looking at you and your friend with a strange expression on her face, 'um, lucy told me to come check on you, is everything okay?'
the blonde's eyes shifted to where your friend's hand was still firmly gripping your arm and she subconsciously clutched the empty glass in her hand so tightly that you feared it would break. clearing your throat you introduced the two, noting the difference between your ex roommate's overly zealous replies and phoebe's forced out 'nice to meet you' accompanied with an almost painful looking smile. not being able to stand the weird tension any longer you said a quick goodbye and a promise to meet soon, wrenching your arm out of her grip. you shoved two of the bottles into phoebe's arms and took the remaining two in yours, speed walking towards where lucy and julien were sitting.
'about time, was beginning to worry you got lost', julien said taking her soda from your hands, giving you a grateful smile, 'what kept you so long?'
you heard phoebe laugh and turned to her with confusion written on your face, 'more like who kept her, rather than what' she said in a weird tone, moving to sit on the chair across from you, her lips pursed as she glared down at the drink in front of her. you furrowed your brows, not missing the wide eyed look that julien and lucy shared with each other.
'what's that supposed to mean?' you said, wondering where this was all coming from. but phoebe ignored your words seeming intent on continuing her rant, 'she had her hands all over you and you didn't seem you mind too much from what i seen anyways, you know she likes you right? it's obvious', there was an unfamiliar biting tone to her words as if she was willing you to disagree with her.
'well, what would it matter if she did like me?', you spat back, unsure as to where she was going with this, 'it's not like we're dating, why should you care'.
phoebe went quiet. lifting her eyes from where they had been burning holes in her glass to meet yours and you could see tears threatening to spill over her waterline. your heart sank in your chest, immediately regretting what you said. her next words were so low you had to strain to hear them over the music, 'you're right, we're not, i guess it wouldn't matter, i just -' she paused, hurt apparent on her face. she stood up from the table and took a shaky breath, 'i'm going to the bathroom', she turned around and practically fled the area not taking a second look back to the three girls, two with sad knowing looks and one with concern and bewilderment.
ignoring lucy's pleas to give phoebe some space you took after the blonde, weaving through the crowds with an urgency that slightly scared you. opening the door to the bathroom you saw phoebe leaning over the sink, hands resting either side holding her up as she breathed in and out heavily, 'phoebs,' you whispered, concern gracing your features. walking over to her you wasted no time wrapping your arms around her. your heart tugged as she repeated that she was sorry, 'what for, darling?', you said, pulling back to look at her.
'for making it weird', phoebe bit her lip, eyes flickering between yours and the cream tiles of the bathroom, 'i know were not dating, obviously, if you like her, you'd be great together, you should go for it definitely, she'd be lucky to have you -', you cut off her spiralling by grabbing her jaw between your fingers and pressing your lips to hers, feeling her pause in shock for a second before she slowly started to kiss back, moving her hands to rest on your hips. after a few seconds you began pulling away, resting your forehead against hers, 'she's not who i want, phoebe'
'good', she mumbled against your lips before closing the gap again. you quickly tangled your fingers through her blonde hair, twisting and pulling slightly as she whimpered softly into your mouth in reply. phoebe ran her hands up and down your body, across every part of you that she could reach in a futile attempt to memorize everything, to prove to herself that this was real and not an elaborate hallucination. though she knew she couldn't be imagining the way your hand felt gripping the back of her neck, or the gentle sounds emerging from your mouth as she nibbled on your bottom lip.
before you could go much further, the door swung open and you two broke apart, turning to see lucy and julien on the other side with their mouths hung open in shock, 'okay, what did we miss?'
