ok so, something i just thought of is the fact that in trigun stampede, both vash and wolfwood are always wearing their glasses.
this may not seem like anything, and it might not be anything i might just be reading into something that isnt there, however in both trigun maximum and the 1998 anime both vash and wolfwood take their glasses off frequently and only seem to wear them whenever it'd make sense to wear sunglasses/marksmans glasses.
in stampede, we only really see both vash and wolfwood without their glasses in flashbacks. for vash, the flashbacks show when he was a young child both before and shortly after the great fall, and when he is a teenager (or plant equivalent) meeting nai for the first time after the great fall. for wolfwood, the flashbacks show a notably both 2D animated and non-voice acted depiction of his time in the orphanage with livio up until the experimentation by the eye of michael, and then him attempting to escape the eye of michael and then being officially recruited by them.
now, we do actually see vash without his glasses in current-day, specifically shortly after he regains his consciousness while in his childhood bedroom on Home/ship 3. you could also argue we technically see wolfwood without his glasses in current-day right after he gets hit by the truck but i dont really count that
whether this is intentional or not i dont really know, although I wouldn't be surprised if it was considering the insane amount of forethought and detail studio orange put into this show. however, regardless of intentionality this is still and interesting detail and im sure someone more coherent than me could probably go more in depth into how this represents vash and wolfwoods emotional barriers which they put up in an attempt to not have to show vulnerability. it could also maybe be extended in that sense to when meryl wears sunglasses in the epilogue in episode 12 while at the memorial for roberto
anyways, i had some thoughts and i needed to get them out there. also we all know the real reason wolfwood wears his sunglasses 24/7 is because studio orange knew if they let us get a good look at his big sad brown puppy eyes we would all go uncontrollably insane, not that the glasses really stopped us from doin that lmao
