oh my fucking god. i'm going to talk about this a little bit because i'm fucking livid. i am not a person of color so I don't want to speak over anyone, and i'm not an expert on this topic, but... this is way too fucking far, even for radqueers.

this is truly appalling. first, let’s just start with the fact that the geisha are not an aesthetic. they are a deeply important part of Japanese culture, and they have been for nearly 8 centuries, and that's AFTER they were inspired by aspects of Chinese culture. i bet this person would not be able to tell you what geisha even means in Mandarin (aka the language geisha is in, it literally translates to art person, usually interpreted as artisan), or that geishas were originally men, or that they are HIGHLY trained in MANY aspects of Japanese culture. the geisha that this person is imagining- the makeup and hair and attire? that’s just the surface of what the geisha are.

girls usually start their training to become a geisha around the age of 14-15. they live in separate housing and undergo rigorous training for YEARS. they become experts and masters in Japanese culture and arts. and they don't do it so that white strangers can fetishize them and shit. there is absolutely importance to the typical geisha appearance and style- but it's impossible to fully appreciate the depth of even that, if you're not from that culture, so you can't just fucking say "oh im transgeisha now" because you like the aesthetic. if you don't have the experience of that culture, you can't just "become" one of the most honored traditions from said culture. when geishas don their traditional attire and makeup, it's their culture. when we do it, it's called yellowface.

so let’s talk about the term “yellowface”. it refers to when white people use orientalist stereotypes and caricatures to dress up as, impersonate, and/or act as Asian people/characters. and for over a century, white people have been doing exactly that with the geisha- trying to dress as geishas, without knowing any of the cultural significance of them, or bothering to find out how to even accurately "portray" the geisha. American film has LONG endorsed this kind of stereotyping, and it has led to an EXTREMELY orientalist, racist, anti-Asian Hollywood and media culture in America. Asian creators in that industry have long spoken about this term and the issues it describes.

but yellowface is exactly the sentiment this "identity" reeks of. a persona of Japanese culture, not anything more. Japanese people are not our aesthetic. if you can't even recognize the basic humanity of the people whose culture you're taking, then why the fuck are you even making terms like this in the first place?

again, i'm not trying to be preachy about this. i would greatly welcome perspectives from actual Japanese people about this, I just saw this earlier and it hasn't left my mind since because it's so horrible. please block and report this person.

How I became obsessed over the Fab 5

Yass Queen I often heard that phrase on social media Particularly on twitter. I thought that this phrase is a new slang for millennial and gen-z that I just haven’t caught on yet (as most of the slang terms of early 2010s).

Jonathan Van Ness this is the guy that may or may not have started the popular phrase “yass queen” but he sure does use it a lot. When I first saw him randomly on a thumbnail of my recommended youtube video I described his appearance as “gay lord” ( I wanna use “Jesus” but in my opinion that’s disrespectful to my religion). He often is featured on hollywood celebrity channels (which I didnt clicked on that time). I thought that he may be a new emerging star or an old celebrity that I didnt know (bluntly I just didnt care). For me, most starlets that enters hollywood are shallow empty-brain fake people that does a lot of stupid stuff to be relevant. I just didnt care about this gay lord that is making the media go gaga over him.

Big Mouth Im a huge fan of this show. I love cartoons!!! Im 25 year old btw and Idga fudge of what you think about that 🙄. The heart of a child in me just never died 🥳. When season 3 came out I was ecstatic! I finished the whole season in one day and I finished it again the next day and the next day after that. I love the humor. I love the educational information sorrounding teens undergoing puberty, sex ,relationships and gays! I mean Im 25 but Im behind all these things that I should have learned in my teenage years. You know why? Because my country put stigma around sex education thinking that it will encourage kids to have sex. well guess what? With or without sex-ed some kids will still have sex. Anyway in season 3 they included the Fab 5 and I immediately recognized gay lord. I then learned that he is part of a reality TV show and has four other gay guys with him. So after watching big mouth I went on youtube and searched “Queer Eye” and sure enough the fab 5 pop out. The first video that I watched was “Fab 5 takes a lie detector test” . I laughed at their animated quirkiness and after that I watched Queer Eye on netflix right away. Aah!

Queer eye I fell inlove with the first episode. I love how they transformed Tom ❤️ ( I didnt really approved with the styling. Sorry Tan). I love their kind approach to Tom and how they make as simple as going mattress shopping hilarious. I love their relationship. Immediately I fell inlove right away with Jonathan Van Ness’ personality! He is full of gay antics and he exudes so much femininity. He is more of a girl than a gay man. Usually I see gays as men who are feminine (or overly feminine) like James Charles and Jeffree Star. Jonathan is more masculine looking than most gays. He sports beards and does not wear makeup. But for me, he is literally a girl in a man’s body.

Gay + Reality Show I never really thought that I will one day be a fan of gay reality show. First, I never had any gay friends in my circle of friends. Gays and I are like oil and water, we dont blend. Im introverted, Im chill and laid back, and a little tomboyish. Gays most of the time are extroverted, flamboyant, rowdy, sassy, and overly dramatic. Im not saying all gays but most of the gays that I encountered. I like them. I like their existence. Dont get me wrong Im not homophobic. It’s just I like them at a distance. Their personality overwhelms me. So it comes as a surprise to me how I came to love the fab 5. And on a reality TV show? Guuurrlll dont even get me started how much I dislike reality shows especially from hollywood. I see such shows as fake, phony, cheesy, and doesn’t really have any substance in it . I don’t waste my time watching these pretentious shows. But Queer Eye changed that.

I love how the casting is diverse. At least, two out of five people are colored people. As an asian Im so proud of Tan, and happy that he is part of this. Im proud how they bravely shared their traumatic stories of how they we’re outed and abandoned by the people they considered family. How they courageously show their vulnerability. You go Queens!

Religion affected Bobby that he cant even go inside a church. Inspite of this, Bobby had learned slowly to let go of the baggages and make peace with his past. I pray that he will be completely free one day because I believe we can all heal. Bobby is an inspiration for the lost and abandoned. I cant imagine my family disowning me and being out their on my own at the age of 15. Look at him now a very successful interior designer. He gave me hope.

I love how Karamo fought despite of racism and homophobia, and went for the things that people denied him of. Imagine being in a room full of people making you feel unwelcomed? Im so proud of you Karamo. Im happy of all the things you have now.

I love how Jonathan fights the issues and rights that I also believed in. He uses his voice to put awareness over racism, sexism, homophobia, HIV, diversity and hatred (which are mostly Trump supporters. just kidding 😜).

I love how Antoni is passionate with food. I can listen to him talk about food all day. He is also sensitive to other people’s feelings. He is respectable towards other people and sympathetic. He is refined and cultured.

Obsession I became obsessed! The proof is that I started taking care of my self more. Im not lazy anymore with my beauty regimen. I updated my products. SERUM AND SUBSCREEN!!! I floss always now. They inspire me to look fabulous everyday even when Im at home.

I started following them on their individual instagram account. Search them on google, pinterest and tumblr. Dont forget twitter for daily updates. My youtube recommendations are all filled of Queer Eye’s casts. Help me! And if that’s not enough I bought their individual books (audiobooks).

Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)

Wow! I can't believe I'm about to review a mainstream Disney release of all things on this blog. Eh! I make the rules and this thing is close enough to a high fantasy/martial arts film and who knows I may give a crack at Disney's Cruella later if the film strikes me the right way.

The Message

Set in the fictional land of Kumandra, Raya exists in a world where dragon lore is at the center of everything. Kumandra is a prosperous land that exists around a dragon shaped sea, and the different Kumandran tribes that live there are named after the part of the dragon they inhabit. Fang, Tail, etc, etc. It's no wonder that the Dragons are so revered in these cultures, as the prosperity that the world is now experiencing is due to the great sacrifice where the dragons gave their lives to create a magic jewel that keeps a horrible race of sprits called the Druun at bay.

The jewel is protected by the Heart tribe, particularly the lineage of the Heart chieftain. Raya is the heir to this immense responsibility. Her father the current guardian of the jewel is an idealistic sort and believes that the Kumandran people can be united, however the other tribes have their own interests and biases, even about the Heart people who they believe are using the power of the jewel to unfairly benefit themselves. Raya is an apt disciple of her fathers ideals but unfortunately this leads to her falling for a ploy by the people of Fang to steal the Jewel, when she 'befreinds' the Fang Princess Namaari.

A battle ensues over the jewel that ends up shattering the macguffin of power, and releasing the Druun back into Kumandra. The Druun now unleashed upon the world begin to create a ruin. Transfroming anyone they come into contact with into stone. Raya's father saves her before being petrified himself.

As we fast forward Raya has become a cynical adult bent on finding the last dragon of legend in hopes that she can defeat the Druun, and return the world to the way it was, abandoning her hopes that the Kumandran tribes can ever be united. It should come as no suprise then that Raya does in fact discover the Last Dragon, Sisu. Sisu is a fun loving, comedic, and hyper energetic creatuer with a love for humanity and trusting nature that is at odds with Raya's trauma and cynicism, it also doesn't help that her special power is "swimming".

As they journey across the Dragon shaped land of Kumandra, they gain friends and face foes. Raya holding onto her hurt and refusing to trust the other peoples they meet enough to think that maybe Sisu is a Sacred being who is important to their cultures as well. It is this lack of trust that eventually leads to tragedy for Raya.

At this point I'm going to uncharacteristically avoid spoilers. Raya is left with the fall out of her distrust and must either turn to her survivor nature and endure this world the way it is, or put her trust in those that have wronged her and bravely and boldly take a leap of faithful expectation that a better world is possible. It's a Disney movie, so I'm sure you know where this goes, but I'm not going to give you the specifics. It's pretty sweet and powerful.

The Benediction

Best Creature Design: Tuk Tuk: Available at Target

I can't lie. I work on the road and I have to use the bathroom all over town if I need to. My secret for finding the cleanest place to go is to generally avoid gas stations and rest areas when I can help it and to hit up grocery stores and book stores etc. as often as possible. My favorite is a local target, the bathrooms are generally less in demand than a gas station, much cleaner, AND at target they usually have a starbucks so I can also grab some joe. All that said, I have seen these absolutely massive Tuk Tuk toys in the toy section and I'm going to buy them for all the kids that I know. I just think he's a fun creature. Im not a big enough fan of Raya to justify having this basketball sized toy in my collection, but I think that kids will love having a giant armadillo bear monster to pal around with.

Best Character: Dragon's Heart

Sisu is an endearing figure and her offbeat but kind nature reminds me exactly of my favorite kind of people to meet in the wild. It's hard to be a lover and not a fighter. It's hard to be so understanding. It is an archetype that we see all over any media with a semi-spiritual message and I don't think we've seen it with quite the comedic edge as Sisu. Aang from Avatar comes close, but his light hearted attitude is certainly on par with Sisu, his comedic sensibilities are decidedly less "on". It also kind of says something that I forget that I'm talking about a dragon here.

Worst Aspect: Rayatar the Last Water Dragon

Alright, this might be a hot take but. Avatar: The Last Air Bender did it better. I can't call it parallel thinking as Raya came out almost a decade after Avatar. The two are playing off of very basic heroes journey style narratives that have existed in human story telling for longer than either show so it's completely unfair to claim that Raya was "ripping off" Avatar, BUT it's also a bit naïve to think that Disney wasn't banking on familiarity to move some product. Disney usually goes after public domain properties and fairy tales we are all vaguely familiar with and that's no accident. There's a clear pattern that people gravitate toward the familiar, it's why franchises won't just die. It's why they can repackage all their animated films into mediocre live action form and sell you the exact same movie over and over again. Even if the plot of Raya didn't have similarities to Avatar, which it does, the marketing certainly was attempting to banking on the beloved animated series.

When Raya was first coming out i saw a lot of people claiming that the fashions and character designs were copying Avatar and guys, that's kind of racist. Both shows are creating fantasy worlds with heavy influences from East and South Asian cultures. There's going to be some things that to a white American eye look pretty homogenous, although I'm sure with a little education are in fact very distinct. So as far as the "look", my only gripe is with the Logo.

Now, all that said. If you do want a show where an American animation company created a lore heavy fantasy world that draws heavy inspiration from Asian history and folklore, where a group of special spiritual individuals were wiped out but one remains and is the only hope of uniting a world populated by nations of people with very basic easy to remember names like "fire, and fang, and heart, and earth", where the chosen one is a goofy pacifist who uses the power of love and spiritual values to pull an impossible victory out of their butt at the last minute, but it still makes you cry and want to be a better person, then I have good news for you. You're spoiled for choice, I'm not gonna say Raya "copied" Avatar, BUT ... Avatar did do that particular story better. It may be a bit unfair, as Avatar had three seasons to do so and Raya had like an hour and a half.

Best Weapon: Shifty Sword

I just like Ranma's sword. I'm gonna use this category when I see an extra cool weapon. Oh man! When I review Flying Guillotine am I really going to have to talk about how bad ass the flying gullotine is?

Rayas weapons is actually not a sword at all but is called the Jade Dragon Keris. A Keris is an asymetrical indonesian dagger, and no it doesn't turn into a whip like in the movie, but it is cool that hers does that. The animators really do some creative things with that.

Summary

Raya is unfortunately shaping up to be one of Disney's forgettable features. I think that's a shame as it's stronger in my opinion than many of the recent films that have come out. But as is the case when Disney does a lot of it's more 'action/adventure' films, audiences seem to largely ignore them. Here's to you Treasure Planet. The good news is those movies do have the most passionate and interesting fans. The appeal is more focused than it is broad, and that's okay. As pointed out above, don't expect Raya to give you anything new, but if this is your kind of story then I'm sure you'll be happy to add it to your collection. There's room enough for lots of these.

'Nation in mourning': Tributes flow for Bob Hawke

Former prime minister Bob Hawke has died at the age of 89. The Labor legend died in his Sydney home on Thursday evening, just two days before the May 18 federal election. All government flags will fly at half-mast on Friday in honour of Mr Hawke, who was arguably one of the most popular prime ministers in Australian history. He is survived by his wife Blanche dAlpuget, and children Susan, Stephen and Rosslyn. Labor leader Bill Shorten tonight paid tribute to Mr Hawke, making a short statement to reporters in Sydney. Tonight the nation and Labor are in mourning. We have lost a favourite son, he said. Bob Hawke loved Australia and Australia loved Bob Hawke. But his legacy will endure forever. Bob Hawke changed Australia for the better. He brought people together, he modernised our economy, he transformed our society, he protected our environment.

I and Bobs children, Sue, Stephen, Rosslyn and stepson, Louis, and his grandchildren, will hold a private funeral. A memorial service will be held in Sydney in coming weeks. Bob Hawke and Paul Keating and their governments modernised the Australian economy, paving the way for an unprecedented period of recession-free economic growth and job creation. Bobs consensus-style approach of bringing together the trade union movement and the business community boosted job opportunities while increasing the social wage through Medicare and extra financial support for low-income families. LEGEND IN THE MAKING Bob Hawke was born in South Australia on December 9, 1929, but moved to Western Australia as a child. Hawke always had big political ambitions. It's believed he said, at just 15, that he would one day lead the nation. He joined the Labor Party in 1947 and led the University of Western Australias Student Representative Council, where he studies a double degree in law and arts. He graduated in 1953. He went on to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

He described himself as a pretty haphazard student during the first two terms of his course, and was lucky he had the smarts to do little work. But during that same year he suffered a serious motorbike accident and almost lost his life. It was a turning point for Hawke, who said it prompted him to live life to its fullest. He never liked the idea of being a lawyer, and did not complete the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics he initially undertook under the Rhodes scholarship at Oxford. Instead, he penned a thesis on the history of wage-fixing in Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Letters in 1955. But they werent his only impressive accolades; the former PM was recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records for skolling 2.5 pints (1.12 litres) in 11 seconds.

RISE TO POWER Hawke first attempted to enter federal Parliament by contesting the seat of Corio, Victoria, held by Liberal MP Hubert Oppermann, in 1963. Mr Oppermann had represented the division since 1949. Hawke was unsuccessful. After his failed bid, he was elected president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions in 1969, and ALP president in 1973. The ACTU recognises Hawke as leading the organisation through a period of significant social change, including amping up the organisations influence in areas including education, health and housing.

He led Labor to victory at the 1983 election in a landslide with the slogan Bringing Australia Together. Against a backdrop of high inflation and unemployment, his victory ended seven years of Liberal Party rule.

He governed amid challenges posed by globalisation and industrial relations, and his government worked to improve economic and employment growth Arguably, Hawkes signature policy was the introduction of Medicare in 1984, Australias universal healthcare system. He introduced it after the Medibank scheme introduced by Gough Whitlam was partially dismantled during the Fraser Government. He was also known for modernising and integrating Australias economy into the global economy. Hawke deregulated the financial system and floated the dollar and reduced tariffs that Labor had traditionally relied on to protect industry and jobs. Low-income families were given greater financial assistance, and sex discrimination in the workplace was outlawed. Hawke also introduced the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS).

He touched every leadership base you can think of. He had a very strong sense of policy direction, he was an excellent communicator to the public, the world at large, he was charismatic to go with it and he was a terrific manager of people, Former Hawke cabinet minister Gareth Evans said, according to the ABC. But he was not without his critics. Some believed hed hijacked the party and moved it to the right through his strengthening of private enterprise. His close relationships with leading businessmen also drew ire. As a recession took hold in the late 1980s, there were doubts Hawke would win the 1990 election, which he ultimately pulled off on a tight margin. But eventually, he lost the support of the Labor Right, who threw their support behind treasurer Paul Keating in a 1991 leadership spill. Keating would go on to lead the party until 1996.

I did my best to support Keating: Hawke Bob Hawke elevated Paul Keating to treasurer upon winning government in 1983. Their partnership was credited as helping the ALP achieve continued electoral success by moving the party toward the centre, and winning the support of Liberal-National voters. But things began to take a sour turn in 1998. A secret meeting dubbed the Kirribilli Agreement took place as opinion polls began to wane, and Hawke agreed to hand over power to Keating if he won the 1990 election.

I would like history to talk about Paul and myself in terms of the great things we were able to do together. His ambition to become leader was perfectly justified and in the end he had his opportunity and he did some good things. So I hope history will look at the positives and not the occasional tiffs, Hawke told the ABC.

media_cameraDecember 19, 1991: Keating makes his move. After quitting politics, Hawke took TV journalism in his stride, interviewing international political figures for Channel 9. He also penned The Hawke Memoirs, and became a successful businessman working as a consultant and dealing in the property market. He continued to remain involved in the Labor Party, supporting Kevin Rudd during the 2007 election and campaigning against John Howards WorkChoices. Similarly, he made appearances during the ALPs 2010 and 2013 election campaigns, too. During his time in office, Hawke was married to Hazel, and the breakup of their marriage in 1994 caused public dismay and family upheaval. After his divorce in 1995 Mr Hawke married his biographer, Blanche dAlpuget. Hawke began an affair with dAlpuget in 1976, but its believed he stayed with Hazel to preserve his prime ministerial aspirations.

Q1 :   if  you  could  write  your  character  your  way  in  their  own  movie ,   what  would  it  be  called ,  what  style  would  it  be  filmed  in ,  and  what  would  it  be  about ?          

A1 :  Loli Zero; meaning he gives zero fucks and kicks everyones ass ( this is sarcasm this was a hard question and idk the answer ;; )

Q2 :   what  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like ?          

A2 : It’d start out with a soft, almost lullaby - like melody at the beginning ( mainly it’d have an “entrance” from Trumpets n high brass but after it’ll be mostly high winds with the melody carried by the clarinets n an oboe solo in there ), it slowly builds up into a melancholic, dark - ish undertone melody with loads of minor chords to signify the darkest time in his life ( being bullied relentlessly and being “abandoned” by his brothers ). it end big, but melancholic, almost like there’s something missing. (( can you guys tell i was a music student ? ))

Q3 :   why  did  you  start  writing  this  character ?        

A3 :  Well kizcku ( haru, his little sister ) was my main blog for so long and i heavily started developing the npcs in her life and i just really .... like the “boy lolita that is actually an asshole” trope i gave him and i really wanted to write it

Q1 :   if  you  could  write  your  character  your  way  in  their  own  movie ,   what  would  it  be  called ,  what  style  would  it  be  filmed  in ,  and  what  would  it  be  about ?          A1 :   It would be called “He’s fine without a heart.” it’ll be like one of those classic old movies? Like during world war two OR same title but Tsuki’s a robot that could turn into a human but wishes for it not to happen. Q2 :   what  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like ?          A2 : Upbeat but like those songs that are really exciting but have a terrible undertone to it? Like Pumped up kicks by Foster the People Q3 :   why  did  you  start  writing  this  character ?          A3 : because I love Tsukishima Kei, no not for how he looks or anything of that sort but for who he is. Tsukishima is a VERY low key competitive person (even in the very beginning not just the recent games) , yes it may have seemed like his isn’t considering he said he would give his base amount of effort which was none at all. However, when it was brought to his attention that he may lose (regarding to going against Hinata, Kageyama & Daichi) didn’t sit right with him making him want to not only prove Hinata wrong but to win as well.
