i have not read a lot of books in my adulthood and i have avoided the dreaded Booktok but my girlfriend (a librarian) and I read a book together that happened to be in the category of "female rage and female suffering is cool" part of booktok and I gotta say not only was it boring, repetitive (and not even in like a thematic way), deeply fatphobic, badly written, had net zero of anything to say but if all I have to do is look up the author's name on Tumblr and i'm immediately confronted with white-glorifying, thin-glorifying, lazy faux-feminist "feeeeemale suffering, This is Girlhood" and i swear to god unironic "femcel" shit then well. I don't know. But I really think we need to take booktok out back with a shotgun if it's going to have this impact on already sad, confused and depressed young teenage girls.
#the doctor is in#im not sharing the book but it was aaaaaaaass.#not plague#teens being depressed edgy and angry is not new#but i feel like this generation's boys and girls are becoming much more asocial and radicalized in different directions#and it WILL have an impact on society when they come to age i think
