please disregard if this isn't for you, and my apologies if that's the case, but if not. hello! i would like your opinion on what would be in the leafs' (or other hockey players if you wish!) scent profiles in the omegaverse

first couple lines of that scared me WHEW ok ok. im not like. an a/b/o Guy as in. like. it's not entirely my thing but ive been known to dabble occasionally if the going's good. that to say i'm taking "scent profile" to mean like. a) what "designation" they have (a/b/o) and b) what like their Smells are. if that's not the commonly accepted meaning of the terms that's ok but it Is the question i am answering

am34: to me in my beautiful world am34 is an omega BUT not in a standard way... he's transgender but re: a/b/o designation not gender. like a/b/o is essentially just a second sex class (there exist in the a/b/o universe 6 "sexes" (not accounting for intersex people in the normal way/intersex people in the a/b/o way): alpha male, alpha female, beta male, beta female, omega male, omega female) and auston is transitioning/has transitioned from alpha to omega. in my mind this works basically the exact same way transitioning does irl, but with different hormones, because obviously a/b/o hormones are diff from m/f hormones!) anyway he would smell similar but different pre- and post-transition: sharp, hot and chemical, like jet fuel and citric acid. eating grapefruit at the airport. it gets sweeter as his transition goes on. lemon slushy by a construction site. they're putting tar on the sidewalk.

mitch marner: mitchy's alpha thru and thru... the leafs uncles do Nawt enjoy this because why isn't he using his ALPHA VIBES to intimidate the other goaltender into sucking... ah well. anywhay... mitch smells animal. sticking your face into a cat. wet dog. wool. locker room, but how you imagine the locker room in gay porn fantasy smells. a little bit of light petrichor when things are getting Really weird.

william nilliam: ALSO alpha. when the leafs drafted am34 ppl were suddenly Weird about this realization there were 3 alphas on the team... were they gonna fight? for a while there was really only the one alpha (phil kessel) and now all of a sudden the big three prospects were all alphas. there was concern! they should trade the little swedish brat! and then auston transitioned and the core was balanced (2 alphas, 2 omegas, and morgan <3) and everyone was like. ok. okay. mitchy and willy (and auston pretransition) were all fun and cool with it they WERE. it's harder now that am34's an omega and they have to regularly resist challenging each other over him but it's all fun and good! they're friends! anyways william nilliam smells like open sky. the wind off the water. wild grasses and night air. ozone.

john tavares: jt has been bonded to his alpha wife since his isles days and understandably as a result he smells Super bonded, but also like leather and rubber and polyester. blue jeans. ironic for mr kombucha man but what can you do

matthew knies: OMEGA !!! two arizona omegas wrow! sidenote for the readers in this a/b/o world a's and o's aren't like. A huge section of the population but they also don't entirely tend to get filtered out of or into the nhl... alphas exist in the nhl at similar or higher rates to the genpop, and omegas at similar or slightly lower rates. if alphas and omegas are each 10-15% of the population (combined 20-30%) that means that there's usually ~4-6 alphas + omegas combined on any given nhl team, give or take a few because percentages don't usually work that way. leafs have 5 alphas (mitch, willy, max, benny, dewar) and 3 omegas (am34, jt, kniesy). kniesy is one of those handful of people who is randomly like super educated about a/b/o biology etc etc. like dude paid attention in sex ed class??? i guess??? he smells a little bit like cheap tequila and a Lot bit like breakfast food, scrambled eggs and that very specific diner toast smell and those maple breakfast sausages. don't forget your orange juice!!

max domi: max is an alpha, like his father. and he smells alpha like his father, salted caramel and bitter coffee and sour apple.

connor dewar: pine tar and unscented soap and smoke and a bloody steak. a lot of people don't always clock him as alpha because he doesn't have the often like. strong or dominant scents of a typical alpha, but he's just a Nervous Guy. get the right omega around him and you WILL be able to tell he's an alpha lol

simon benoit: also coffee like max, but much less of a cheap cup made by someone trying to stay awake and much more of a seven-dollar latte made by someone with a nose ring. a bowl of ramen noodles with the highest spice level they'd let you pick. spring onion. farmer's market in a big city with food you've never seen before.

HESTIA & FLAMESKEEPER ASKS DUMP

A/N: Hi so I got these three Hestia and Flamekeepers asks in mass so I'll just be all answering them all in here cause they're all related more or less. Prepare for lots and lots of text:

Anytime some child or woman sits by a fire source, a fireplace, a little campfire in the woods or in the streets, Hestia is there in spirit, making them warm like they have been personally been wrapped in a warm blanket by her that lulls them to sweet dreams and when they wake up, they'll find a little gift; whether it's a bit of money, food, or when they soon find help. If that child is particular, they'll find tiny holes in their clothes, made by tiny embers that provide them a blessing from the goddess herself. When they come across the Flameskeepers and they choose to keep their old clothes, they don't mend the holes the Embers made. Any new clothes they were given to them, weaved, mended, and fitted, many instinctively, and deliberately let the embers create tiny holes in them as a reminder. Even if they do not choose to remain with the Flameskeeper, they continue to stoke the fire in honour of Hestia and her flamekeepers, and all their clothes have the smell of fresh bread, smoke, and fire on them.

Like the Huntresses who have their silver palkas and gear, when enough time has elapsed and when they pledge to Hestia, they’re gifted with a veil. It not only as a minor protection, it also has minor invisibility that lets the wearer hide away from evil, harm, and such. It's not as invincible as wearing the Nemean Lion hide or powerful with the invisibility as the Helm of Darkness of Hades, but for a priestess of Hestia? That’s more than enough.  You can wear it on your head like a veil or a headcovering (i.e. tichel, hijab, dupatta, so forth), a shawl, a scarf, to wrap around your waist, or whatever you like you find comfortable. It’s been weaved together with the help of all the sisters within the Flameskeepers with little ember hole marks by Hestia. If the Flameskeeper don’t have the beads from Camp Halfblood or Tattooed by Camp Jupiter, they have (also) the veil. Each year you all get together to embroider your veil with a design, helped by your sisters or by yourself, showing everyone. It can be elaborate or as simple as you like. 

First and foremost, there’s no real obvious emphasis on status with Hestia’s priestess. Other than ‘high’ priestess, the seniors, and so forth, much like the actual priestess of Hestia, it’s pretty much equal. The only external/physical way you can probably tell who is senior and how long they’ve been around is with their veil and the amount of embroidery they’ve added every year since they’ve been a Flameskeeper. Otherwise, it’s your years of service, knowledge, skills, and your character, that prove to others but you won’t see any show-offing because your fellow Flameskeepers and priestess are your family and community.

Other than the veil, there's no real strict or specific dress code that the Flameskeepers have to follow in terms of pieces... What they do have to wear is more a general suggestion and follows more common sense; like you're going to need to wear clothes that are suitable for work around the house and hearth. Like you're free to wear shorts and t-shirts if you want but don't wear anything that is flammable (i.e. polyester, nylon) cause you will go up in flames, and you're lucky that Hestia saved you, and you're going to get a lecture from not only her, the children of Apollo, and the other older Flameskeeper on fire safety. Just wear clothes that are appropriate, practical clothes that are appropriate for the work you're doing and it'll be fine.

In terms of vibe: There's a sense of modesty, and simplicity with nothing explicit that resonates Hestia or aligns with her virtues. Some of the older flamekeepers vibe with the Ancient Greek wear "Chiton- a tunic of two different styles, Doric and Ionic, worn by both sexes" , "Peplos - a garment worn mainly by women over a chiton or instead of one", paired with the veil/shawl that acts as the "Epiblema-a shawl worn over a chiton or peplos by both men and women"; otherwise, you do you, you can also go full lumberjack, cottagecore, or whatever. As for Make-up, you're free to wear makeup if you want but nothing overly excessive; mostly because it’ll be wasted effort. You’re going to be sweating it off, grime and dust, the heat and smoke of the fire is going to mess with it, among other things and there are things to do to get done. Besides with the minor blessing of Hestia, with her bestowing her flamekeepers with youth and vigour to them, the need for make-up is not entirely necessary. 

Accessories are fine like for the clothes, just as long as they’re not excessive and don’t get in the way of work. If you’re working on the looms or doing any weaving, just remove or roll up your bracelets and charms so they don’t get caught, or make sure the metal doesn’t sting and burn you if you’re working by the fire.

got a bunch of followers (many of you are Cool Teens, so also a reminder im 26 and an adult and you’re responsible for curating your own internet experience) anyway there’s a bunch of new folks since the last time this was a regular series, so i am going to pre-answer some things that popped up in my inbox last week.

a quick reminder that this is empathetically NOT a recommendations or review blog series. this is a quick snapshot of what i’m thinking about with regards to mass media this week, and sometimes i’m funny about it and sometimes i also do interesting diy shit

a work can be culturally or historically relevant and important in the history of a genre AND be extremely difficult to recommend unless i know you very well due to. hm. let us say many pitfalls due to the inherent nature of the genre or the time it was made in it any number of other factors that make it unpalatable to modern audiences but still worth knowing about. doesthedogdie dot com will be your friend here for anything i talk about ever

being critical of a work doesn’t just mean pointing out its flaws- was it successful in telling the story it wanted to tell? were the techniques it used effective? were the emotions it elicited in me probably the ones the creators set out to elicit? these are key components of a good review and often help me break down what i want to say about a particular piece of media in any given week, but this isn’t a review series of blog posts either.

listening i’m gonna wash that man right out of my hair (from the musical South Pacific) brought to you by a random mix of classic movie musicals bc apparently im that kinda gay this week.

like a lot of other fifties media that aged like milk, i have fond memories of watching this with my grandmother. this isn’t even my favorite song from the musical (that would be bali hai’i) but i think it is one of the more technically interesting non-solo ones. specifically, the faint siren-y dissonance on “ahoy, ahoy!” has really been stuck in my head. the melancholy “ah fuck we’ve broken our hearts again” vibe on “rub him out of the roll call/and drum him out of your dreams” with all the girls singing is probably a result of a soprano-heavy cast, but it’s almost chimey in a way? the rhyme scheme of those lines has an excellent mouthfeel. ms gaynor singing “cancel hiiiiiim” has a very different vibe in 2021

two (really three? maybe four? the world is large and mysterious) things can be true at the same time: i don’t think i could watch this musical again as an adult because i don’t think there’s a good way to salvage or update it. the very qualities of this musical that make me go “fuckin yikes” as adult were the very qualities that made my grandmother love it so much. i can hold a bittersweet memory of a rare late movie night with a complicated lady and at the same time wish she were a better person. the dead never leave you with answers.

reading yet another fallow week. this field is turning back into forest

watching i often say “AAA video game (derogatory)” when talking offline about the bad batc/h, but this was a real bioshock ass lookin episode. i don’t think this show is succesful at making or having a point. mostly because it cannot contradict any existing lore in one of the most traversed time periods of this franchise, even with the expanded universe reboot. it falls into the uncomfortable realm of most starred wars media: this is a franchise for children but it also has to cater to legions of grownup fanatics with lots of money. but by god does it “feel” like starred wars. something not all the sequel trilogy movies or much of the clone wars series were successful at.

as a sidebar to that last sentence. the most memorable (imo) scene of the fucking sequel trilogy is the back-to-back battle couple thing in ep seven, which i have just rewatched, and it simply does not hold up. there are too many cuts to other sideplots, which kills any tension dead, and it’s mostly fighting on opposite sides of the room in frantic desperation instead of what i wanted, which was more than five seconds of synergy. it’s a bad rhyme of the final throne room fight in rotj and my memory of the thing is so much better, which is always disappointing.

back to the main point, i think a big part of something “feeling” like starred wars is big setpieces and fights that make you go “HAHA YES FUCKIN SICK WHY NOT!!!!” like, nobody ever Just gets shot in the head and temporarily incapacitated, they get half-vadered by the engines of a derelict ship trying to go to hyperspace while it’s grounded. this franchise has never met a location it couldn’t destroy in a beautiful and awful shower of light while the string sections of three combined orchestras play their hearts out.

this franchise is so fucking stupid and i am so invested in it

playing got my hands on the death trash early access, very hype to play it, have been too busy turning this apartment into a functional and comfortable space to live in for three separate people with their own separate toiletries and groceries and work from home/school schedules

making related to the above, the fucking kitchen table and chairs are done.

things wot i did friday night/saturday morning:

new rubber feeties on everybody

wrapped the legs that structurally couldn’t get new rubber feeties in jute to be kinder to my rental linoleum

bolted the legs back on the table and rebalanced it bc the jute wasn’t quite even

did a very halfassed job of fixing the drawer rails on the table

bolted the chair tubing back together

took all the old decorative tacks out of the backs of the chairs

scrubbed the seats and backs and the pieces the tacks were holding down with mild detergent (partially effective, it still has some patina but is sanitized)

re-covered the bottoms of the chairs in remnant black polyester to replace mildewed black canvas

put in new decorative tacks on the seat backs

bolted the vinyl parts to the chrome tubing parts (a long and frustrating process since there were two sizes of decidedly non-standard nuts and bolts)

wiped everything down again for idk good luck

sitting at my kitchen table in the sun eating a breakfast sandwich and some terrible iced tea on sunday morning was very nice. i lived in the south just long enough to get Opinions on iced tea and how the north can’t get it right. shouldn’t be gritty. shouldn’t be bitter. how is this even happening

had like maybe a little over a gram of this stupid californian weed thats genuinely too high THC like i think i like medium-high strength australian weed the most i think not like things that make ur throat tickle a lot.. . . ((BUY HOME GROWN)) its called master kush if ur a nerd.. . anyway its cool its my first time being like super super high alone. had that and 80mls riko and a glass of red wine and like thats a lot of drugs especially b/c i have not done drugs very much. nearly psychedelic when u have that much. but yeah dude idk weed is good especially like acid has made it so much better. if i smoke that much i get super super obvious visuals and its really nice

oh yeah money i hate that i don’t have money or like i do i have probably more money than most ppl worldwide but i don’t have income or anything. which is fine i don’t really have expenses b/c i live w/ my parents and i steal most of the expensive stuff i like. but honestly it would be great to be able to dedicate like $30 a week on weed. i know that smoking everyday isn’t great in terms of health in some ways but like dude who cares it makes u feel nice. hopefully next year i’ll be studying part time and have a letter from my therapist saying that counts as full time for me b/c im ill & trans and then i’ll get c/entr3l!nk lol. can’t wait to spend gov money on weed

not specifically about weed but i like how when u try a new drug u hear new sounds and then u can hear that sound forever. every new type of drug i’ve tried has taught me about new sounds

and 2 wrap up my thing i wanted to say about lesbians is that polyester suits are ugly even if ur a woman im sorry. like women in menswear is cool in concept but so many cis tumblr butches wear the ugliest shit. sorry. and like wearing waistcoats on their own is so bad like if ur wearing a suit and get too warm and take the jacket off then fine but like leaving the house in a button up and waistcoat is so cringey even for girls. and uhh. button down collars are an abomination unless ur very cool and can do it. wing tip oxfords are awful like in every situation. maybe if ur like an indie fag u can wear them actually. i promise im not butchphobic
