"it'll grow back" - LN
v short. just expressing my sadness for the loss of beard lando </3 it's been a rough day lads
tried a little bit of social media au stuff so lemme know if that works <3
Tumblr media
“hey ba-”
“you are in so much trouble,” you announce as he picks up the phone, pacing around the airport waiting for your layover flight to join him in australia.
“wha-? why?” lando says, his voice wavering slightly in panic, trying to remember everything he’d done in the last 24 hours that could anger you.
“how could you? how could you shave before i got to say a proper goodbye?” you whine down the phone, exaggerating your sadness at the loss of his facial hair.
“im sorry ba-”
“no i dont wanna hear it. firstly - i had to find out through twitter! AND my flight lands in 5 hours - you couldn’t wait till then?”
“if i waited you would’ve talked me out of it!” he argues back in jest.
“precisely!” you argue, the phone line falling silent, asides from max laughing in the background, and lando clearly trying to stifle his own giggles.
“max you’re a traitor! you promised me you would stop him,” you say, knowing he can hear you. max says nothing in response, just continues to laugh until he’s wheezing.
the announcement of your flight boarding was probably well timed, alerting you that you need to leave before the argument get serious.
“get on your flight angel, ill be at the airport to pick you up when you land.”
“you better be, you owe me.”
-
when you finally spot him in the airport, your pace quickens to meet him and his embrace. he presses a kiss to the top of your head, his arms moving to rest on and behind your shoulders. your head rolls backwards slightly to look up at him, as sigh escaping your lips when you see the lack of facial hair in person.
“12 seconds!” max exclaims from behind him, holding up his phone timer, “it took you 12 seconds to make a remark about him shaving!”
“hey! i didn’t even say anything,” you argue back.
"debatable."
“it’s ok y/n - it’ll grow back,” lando says, grinning at you before looking down and kissing your lips. the lack of scruff touching your face is unfamiliar.
“but now it feels like i’m kissing a 13 year old boy.” max snorts at your response, lando just keeps smiling down at you.
“when did you last eat?” lando asks, moving the conversation along, as he grabs your suitcase and starts walking to the car, you and max stood either side of him.
“erm, on the first flight - so i don’t know but i am starving.”
“let’s go get you some dinner. i’ll pay, call it an apology.”
“lan, you’d insist on paying whether i was owed an apology or not,” you retort, moving to sit in the car.
“i’ll make it up to you tonight,” he says, smirking at you. you had almost forgotten max was there till he started making fake vomit noises at lando’s comment.
“i’d love to see you try.”

I don’t know much about mha but I adore your foc, I wonder how class 1a is going to react to having to fight monster izuku, if they know about his true form. Cause like an terrified cornered animal, it flight or fight instincts, i don’t think izuku wants to injure them (like maul or claw them) but u can’t just smother it with love and affection as much as you want to, i really hope they at least try to talk it out, even more Baku apology I hear even if it’s doesn’t work with izuku and that’s ok
Hi this sat in my drafts for like a million years bc i have just been busy but anyways im editing my response now that Im answering hfhfh
REGARDLESS
Izutute won't have to fight his friends frfr and is in full control of himself while in his other form! Even if he's in full panic and instinct it wouldn't be any different from the instinct he has in human for (fight/flight/fawn/freeze)
Anyone could try talkin to him and the lack of success over smothering him with love is more just because of his own comfort and personal space rather than just restistance to affection
And as for Bakugou he will continuing to work on himself in the background of the fic proper

I AM CRAVING FOR UR 319 AU RN😭😭 and it brings me lots of questions that i apologize for rambling but—!
ok, first of all—im fucking excited on how u’ll expand this au! i am soooo invested in it and ur world building makes me wanna kneel over and just sob over this brilliant idea of yours!!
then the goddamn flashbacks! it brought more questions on what the fuck attacked the kokotiam gang and, possibly, is the reason for the destruction of the other planets (and tapops, as well?👀) AND HOW THE HELL DID THE ELEMENTALS BECAME HUMAN??
(btwwww, i adore how u make the system of each place just fucking work!! having gur’latan being a cyberpunk city and baraju as a military nation scratched my brain right😭🫵)
then i am also curious on how the hell did solar ended up in the cubulus forces. assuming that the other elementals are in their respective place, what did he do to catch the higher-ups attention? was it his intelligence, did an high rank officer saw his potential, or was it something else?👀👀 alsooo, if the other officers even saw solar’s potential to be part of baraju’s forces—how come he was put in quabac’s and, coincidentally, in where gempa is??
andandandand the idea of gempa and solar slowly becoming close as brothers and meeting the others just makes me wanna kneel down and—gaaahhhhhhhh😭😭😭😭😭
First of all, I give my deepest gratitude to you, rineshower. It's just a simple au concept but you made digest more to this au.
I may be slow, but I always try to myself to learn, to write, and to draw more with this story because of you.
So please don't stop rambling :')
ok, first of all-im fucking excited on how u'll expand this au! i am soooo invested in it and ur world building makes me wanna kneel over and just sob over this brilliant idea of yours!! then the goddamn flashbacks! it brought more questions on what the fuck attacked the kokotiam gang and, possibly, is the reason for the destruction of the other planets (and tapops, as well 👀)
I really want to write an Elemental story since I read some au concept by @/vanillaxoshi. Along with recent essay about the elementals and their headcannon I wrote AND This concept art here made me wanted to make an au concept of elementals as well.
I'm not a fan of Star Wars or Star Trek, mind you, but I couldn't help but to think, "What if Oboi's lived in a deserted planet like Ray's early daily lives from Episode VII? Would that be cool?" (I only watched it once at the theater and never seen it again afterwards by the way.)
Then I read this theory I posted before and it clicked me. "Would that be interesting concept who's the fake ones and who's the real one in the same story? Which one they should protect and which one they should fight for?"
I once made this au from different franchises, never published it cause that one was full of holes and lack of world building, so I remade it with this franchise. Turns out It... Surprisingly works? From the moment I randomly write down the prompt, my mind explodes in possibilities.
Therefor here we are. I truly at first wanted to give more prompts and I dunno... spoil anything? Yet, my head constantly showcasing scenes and scenarios for me to write it down!
So my apologies for very veeeery long update. I try to write a proper story with minimized the typos. (Again, non native English speaker here :/)
AND HOW THE HELL DID THE ELEMENTALS BECAME HUMAN??(btwwww, i adore how u make the system of each place just fucking work!! having Gur'latan being a cyberpunk city and baraju as a military nation scratched my brain right 😭🫵)
You mean how the hell elementals could lived as a living being without Boboiboy? That my friend is a secret. ;)
Btw that's also how I see most of planets during my speed run of season 2 comic book.
'Gugura background really reminds me of Wall-e, Oh How about Gur'latan one is cyberpunk theme one... Maybe added aesthetics and glory buildings like Capitol from Hunger Games? This all tantrum planet could be perfect if I make it more like a military nation as it's setting, Windara gets me the vibe of slash Professor Layton and Catsle in The Sky theme, and Rimbara... To be fair Rimbara was not to far from most of villages in my country or any country at all lmao'.
then i am also curious on how the hell did solar ended up in the cubulus forces. assuming that the other elementals are in their respective place, what did he do to catch the higher-ups attention? was it his intelligence, did an high rank officer saw his potential, or was it something else? 👀alsoooo, if the other officers even saw solar's potential to be part of Baraju's forces-how come he was put in quabac's and, coincidentally, in where gempa is?? andandandand the idea of gempa and solar slowly becoming close as brothers and meeting the others just makes me wanna kneel down and- gaaahhhhhhhh
Whoaaaaaaaaaa! Nice theory you got there! Next chapter, It will be Solar's point of view!
Why must Solar wanted to join this troops anyway? His shooting skills was more beneficial at Baraju's nations than this lower levels. Most of brave youth generations will said it boldly Baraju's is the perfect place to upgraded your fighting technique... Right?

3 days after.
“Jeno .. can I ask you something?”
“Sure” he replied,
jeno too has changed, he has become more caring towards you like he was stepping to fill jaemins place, while jaemin was occupied.
Jeno was more controlled, he didn’t show much, if you didn’t know what had happen you would have believed everything was fine.
“What’s gonna happen to me if..? You know” ,
you leave the questions unfinished, but jeno understands what you wanted to ask.
His mouth opens to speak but closes shut again, he takes a minute to think before he answers “I don’t know”.
His honesty although appreciated didn’t help at all.
“but, I will do my best to make sure you’er taking care of” he reach to hold your hand over the table, gently squeezing it to reassure you.
.
.
.
5 days after.
You saw less and less of jaemin.
The stress of it all was getting to you too, you were agitated.. you blamed it all on jeno.
“Why don’t you just confess?”,
your question was loaded with hostility.
He looked at you, a desperate look on his face, he told you over and over but still he tells you again,
”it’s complicated sera”.
You scoff, his answer seemed more like an excuse than a genuine answer. “what’s complicated? You did it, you are the one who should be facing life in prison not him” you pointed at jaemin’s closed door.
He exhales, his eyes close “you don’t know what you’er talking about”.
“You killed him!” You contain to argue but he gets up and leave, ending the conversation.
Tears of anger pooled in your eyes, this is another level of injustice.
.
.
.
6 days after.
You were quietly munching on your cereal, jeno sat across form you sipping on his bitter coffee.
The mood was tense, unstable.
The neglected tv flashed a breaking news strip that caught your attention, it was about the murder in a diplomatic’s son house, “turn the volume up” you ushered jeno.
“.. it has been determined that the leased apartment falls under diplomatic amenity and no further investigations could be carried”
You looked at jeno, “dose it mean that they’er closing the case?” You asked, carful not to get your hopes up, he remind quiet for a minute before he nods “ yup, I guess they are”.
You jumped out of your seat, squealing with happiness “yes! Yess thank god” you grabbed his arm to share the joy but he didn’t move.
He wasn’t happy, nor relieved.. he didn’t seems to feel any thing.
You top your small celebration, “what?” You asked.
“Nothing” he stood up ready to leave, “clean up when you’er done”.
he leaves you to your wild thoughts to run the worst case scenarios.
.
.
.
Today
The week slowly rolled over with much tension and uncertainty, jaemin has been called to the police station couple more times, you swear each time he comes back, he has aged years.
You wanted to be by his side but he didn’t even look at you when you tried to call him this morning, if he’s not out then he’s locking himself in his room. you tried knocking on his door, to get him to at least eat a proper meal but he didn’t answer. Each attempt has been met with either complete silence or a sharp temper, he would lash at you then quickly apologize.
This is not how you wanted your first semester to begin, you attended the first week of your online classes but you couldn’t really focus on what has been said, not with a disaster hanging above your head ready to drop at any minute.
And as much as you wanted to blame it all on jeno, you couldn’t anymore. The case is closed, but why is jaemin still being investigated? Could it be because of you? Did the police knew you were taken? Was it your fault?.. you tossed and turned in your bed, it felt cold and empty without him, you missed him so much. After a long string of pillow thoughts, slumber finally took mercy over you.
“y\n..”
An unfamiliar voice calls your name.
“y\n”
the whisper gets louder, your body tip over and fall off of an edge to an endless darkness.. you jerk out of the nightmare, drenched in sweat and gasping for air.
You clam yourself and push the heavy covers off of you, dragging your feet to the kitchen for some water, you don’t bother turning the lights on, you open the fridge door and take a bottle. The icy water clears the clouds in your mind only for the grim reality to take its place, jaemin might be taken away.. you dwell on the scary thought.
You turn your head to see the lights of jaemins room were on, your heart clinches, he’s still awake at this ungodly hour.
Opting not bother him, you head back to your lonely bed, but the dark figure in the balcony almost gave you a heart attack.
You recognize the man, it’s jaemin.. his tall figure was standing in the dark, the phone was pressed to his ear, his demeanor was agitated, shifting his weight form one foot to the other, you couldn’t hear anything but you can tell he wasn’t happy.
You turn to see if jeno was in his room, his lights were off and his shoes were by the door. you always had the impression that they were close, partners in crime. they did all their nasty work together, but why is it only jaemin who is in this mess right now?.
“You can’t be serious !”
Jaemin’s loud voice comes clear through the thick glass, his hand running through his hair seemingly wanting to rip it from the roots out of frustration. You can tell he was angry, desperate.. he keeps shouting but you can’t make out what he was saying. you step closer, as close as you can without being seen by him, you try to decipher his muffled voice,
“I am your son! Your only son”
you’er not sure if that’s what he said..
He speaks in a lower voice before he removes the phone from his ear, ending the call. He punches the wall next to him, he was beyond pissed.
You move to hide behind the curtain to avid angering him more, he opens the door and steps inside slamming the glass door behind him.
“I can see you” he deadpan says in the dark, since there’s no one other than you, he must be talking to you and you make the quick decision of coming out before he losses his temper.
“Im sorry, I had a nightmare and I got up to drink wa..” You try to explain yourself but he waves his hand with not much care “Yeah yeah” and you stop talking.. he walks to his room, the dull city lights illuminating his backside, his shoulders were slumped, his back hunched with heavy burden, the sight of him broken made your heart twist inside your ribcage.
“Jaemin” you call him without a plane, he stops and looks at you, “Are you okay?”, stupid question..
Although it’s dark, you can feel his eyes burning holes into your face.
“Do I look okay?” He retorts,
You answered him with a small “no”
he turns to walk to his room but you speak again, “I can help you if you tell me what wrong”, bold statement.
He stops again and heavy sighs, your heart thumbs in your chest as you wait for him to speak, but all you get was a scoff, “why don’t you just know your place huh?” he asks with much condecindence, although you know he didn’t mean it, his words still hurts.
“Just stay out of my way, you have done enough already” he adds more sharp words, twisting the planted knife in your heart.
“I just wanted to help you and be here for you” your voice breaks and you hate yourself for it, but you chock and the tears starts to gather in your eyes, he huffs and looks up to the ceiling, impatiently waiting for you to recompose yourself. But his cold nonchalant demeanor triggers more eruptions inside of you.
the words escapes your mouth before you have thought of them.. “all I wanted was to help you, but you keep me away form you! you don’t tell me anything, no one is telling me anything! I don’t know what is happing or if I will see you when wake up the next day” you rant through the sobs, your voice getting louder and louder, and when he was fed up with you he shuts you down with a loud scream “shut up”.
Jeno comes out of his room, bewildered and alert.. he stands in the background watching the fight evolves.
“You are not my girlfriend” he walks towards you, making you feel small and insignificant, “I don’t own you anything” his tall stature looms over your short one, that cuts deep.
you look at him, you stare into his eyes, challenging him to take what he said back but he doesn’t.
“Yeah?” Your voice barely comes out, “fine then I guess I have no reason to stay here anymore”. you turn and stomp to where your bed is to collect your few belongings, he follows behind, his steps shaking the ground beneath you.
“where the fuck do you think you’er doing?” He asks but you ignore him, more so you couldn’t speak due to the choking knot in your throat, but your lack or response angers him even more, he grabs your arm and turns you around with much force, that it almost dislocates your shoulder, you whimper at the pain but he doesn’t care, his grip tightening even more, his eyes glazed with a dark, sinister layer.
“Jaemin!” Jeno warns, but it does nothing as another screaming match breaks between you, with him asking you the same question, not really waiting for an answer, and you shouting whatever comes to your mind first, curses, accusation, anything to hurt him. you don’t know who started it first but hands were being thrown, jeno was trying to break you apart, but  eventually, jaemin overpowered you and threw you over his shoulder like a rag doll, your kicking and screaming did nothing against him.
“Jaemin” jeno shouted at his friend who was in a trance, muttering the filthiest insults under his breath.
“Where are you going? Jaemin!” jeno tries to reason with him. at this point jaemin was like a robot, marching to his room, he kicks the door to his bedroom open, he slams you to his bed, knocking the wind out of you.
“Jaemin! Calm down” jeno was trying to stop whatever jaemin was doing, he kneels and opens his safe, jeno’s voice getting louder, you were paralyzed with fear everything is happing so fast for your brain to form a response.
Jeno was trying to pry jaemin’s hands out of the safe, “come on! don’t do something you’ll regret”, jeno was almost begging him to stop.
jaemin finally broke out of his trance and turned to jeno “get out!”,
but jeno stood in his place like a pillar, his presence seems to clam jaemin, he takes a deep breath and pushes his hair back “I know what im doing” he speaks calmly this time before he turns back to you, you swallow the thick knot “jaemin please..” pleadings to spare your life were timid but loud enough to be heard, your body crawls as far away from him before the wall stops you.
He kneels down and reaches again inside the safe, for a second the time has stoped, everything moved in slow motion.
He takes out a metal handcuffs out of the safe, the blood that was frozen in your vines moved again, you let go of a breath you didn’t know you were holding.. jeno does the same “fuck..” he must have thought the same, he too believed jaemin was about to kill you.
Your limbs fell weak and cold due to the withdrawal of the adrenaline that filled your bloodstream, you feel sick, dizzy.
The bed dips under jaemin’s weight next to you, your head falls back into his soft pillows, aimless tears rolls down your temples, you give him your hands to cuff. you are worn out, you surrender.
He takes both of your arms and cuffs them to the headboard of his bed, your eyes meet, you don’t look away and neither does he. He looks down at you.. his eyes pours inside of your soul.
Dark circles beneath his eyes, dry lips, heavy eyelids but still, still handsome as ever. he leans down to kiss your watery eyes, “for my sanity sake” he whispers between the kisses.
He throws his covers over you, and turns the lights off before he leaves and close the door behind him.

(   *  💀  / incoming owl )  — Hi! I just wanted to be honest and say that a lot of your faceclaims of color are either lightskinned or white passing. Aside from that, for almost all (if not all, period) it seems that they have white-passing names as well. I understand that that's difficult for canon characters, but even for your non-canon's, that seems to be the case. You also have a ton of turkish faceclaims, with white names. They're also common to use because, especially with those names, they're white passing. I don't feel like you're taking diversity and representation seriously, as a person of color, it feels more like trying to get the credits for something while having your members play largely white-passing faceclaims with white-passing names. Turkish people especially, don't often change their names. It's just incredibly performative to me, and I really hope you'll not take this as an offense against your group, but I hope you'll end up fixing it because this does not feel like a safe space.
hi there anon, we don’t take offense to this whatsoever -- we genuinely appreciate you bringing your incredibly valid and necessary concerns to us so that we know how to proceed with ensuring revelio is the safe, diverse space we strive for it to be. all of the observations you’ve brought up are true, and while we’ve always wanted to remedy the whitewashed canon of harry potter, we recognize that we have been regrettably lax with the diversity requirements and sincerely apologize for our oversight and the fact we have made anybody uncomfortable or felt that our intentions were ingenuine. there is no excuse, and we will immediately be implementing the following changes:
1) if members are using one of the semi-canon surnames (such as abbott, nott, etc) presented on our canon page to portray an original muse of color, we encourage some part of their name to match their faceclaim’s ethnicity, whether that’s by the muse’s first name and/or a second surname. other canon characters portrayed by poc are still encouraged to include ethnically accurate second surnames and middle names if applicable, as well as potentially integrate their muse’s race and cultural background (or a lack thereof, should you have a muse who is culturally disconnected or assimilated) into their character profiles, intros, etc, and come up with a possible reason as to why their character may have their last name presented to us in hp canon. HOWEVER, given that some people of color may have “white-passing names,” or may not be connected to their culture or heritage for a variety of reasons, these suggestions are an encouragement and not a requirement! really, this is more dependent on your character’s backstory and place of origin, and we mainly just want to be sure that no characters are being purposefully whitewashed. should anyone need help or suggestions, feel free to im us! -- edited wording for clarity, 7/25.
 2) proper diversity in skin tones will become a top priority for us, and to prevent members from exclusively using white-passing turkish faceclaims to get around the diversity rules, members will be allowed only one turkish fc to count towards the diversity requirements. in order to continually combat the colorism we’ve left excused for too long, we’ll also encourage our members to create a lineup of characters that reflects the diversity of skin tones found around the world, as well as continually recommend the use of darker-skinned faceclaims who are so often ignored and underused within the tumblr rpc. this is NOT to say that lighter-skinned poc will not be accepted, just for members to be mindful of how colorism intersects with the rpc and how that manifests in many of our faceclaim choices.
 3) we will be creating an anonymous, optional google form, allowing our members the opportunity to contribute any further suggestions, insights, recommendations, and guidance for how else we can improve the diversity of this space. it is important that we gain the insight of our members and receive a broad range of opinions so that no voice goes unheard, particularly on topics that both admins do not have the lived experience to speak on with authority.
should anyone have any further concerns, particularly with the rules and suggestions we just proposed, don’t be afraid to address them in our inbox or ims! and once again, we apologize profusely for our actions. from here on out, we will make a much stronger commitment to diversity in a more honest, comprehensive way that will allow our writers of color to feel as if this rp is the safe space we initially envisioned it to be.
NOTE: this response will be continually updated to reflect any changes or adjustments made by the admins, based on google form responses and other feedback.

my mom believes in homeopathy and i don't know what to do. our town homeopath died not so long ago so she won't be recommending him to people anymore, but she still believes in the system. apparently he cured my brother's hyperthyroidism and my nephew's alopecia. she says that he went to tons of real doctors and the only thing that worked was homeopathy. that left me speechless. im still skeptical but how do you explain that? and if it's a placebo but it works, then why shouldn't we use it?
This answer is going to be a long one, so I apologize in advance. Apologies also for how long this has taken for me to write and publish. As always, I want to make sure that I answer every part of this question with thought, care, and sources. To make it easier to navigate, I'm going to add headers for each section. What are Homeopathic "Remedies"? The first thing I want to do is clarify what homeopathic "remedies" actually are and what the theory behind homeopathy is. Often, I think we imagine that homeopathy is just herbalism- using "natural" plants as "medicine". By itself, doing that is kind of a dubious approach to treating illness, but it can be at least somewhat effective. It's important to understand that that's not what homeopathy is. Homeopathy is an alternative "medicine" practice created in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann as a reaction to the mainstream medicine of the late 18th century. Hahnemann's homeopathy is based on the doctrine that "like cures like"- that a disease can be cured by a substance that produces similar symptoms to that disease in healthy people. In order to prevent those symptoms from occurring as a result of the "remedy", homeopathy also subscribes to something called the “law of minimum dose”—the notion that the lower the dose of the medication, the greater its effectiveness. This is inconsistent with what science knows about dose-response relationships, where the effect of a dose is reliant on the concentration of the active ingredient. Many homeopathic products are so diluted that no molecules of the original active ingredient remain. Modern advocates of homeopathy have suggested that water "remembers" the substances mixed in it, and transmits the effect of those substances when it's consumed. This isn't consistent with our scientific understanding of matter. Homeopathy also traditionally includes the concept of "miasms" as the "infectious principle" behind illnesses (including illnesses like epilepsy, cancer, deafness, and cataracts). Miasms are a negative force (imagined to be kind of like a cloud or fog) that serve no purpose other than to make humans miserable and ultimately kill them. Traditionally, homeopaths believe that individual symptoms should not be alleviated, since it will only drive the miasm deeper and the miasm will "manifest itself as diseases of the internal organs". They believe that in order to cure illness, the miasm must be removed from the "vital force". The concept of miasms have become less popular in modern times, but there are still homeopaths who base their practice around it. It's important to know that none of these ideas are backed by the scientific method, nor have they been shown to be effective when subjected to the scientific method. That said, you can kind of see concepts in homeopathy that are 18th century explanations for phenomena that are real. For example, "like cures like" and "law of minimum dose" is actually kind of how vaccines work: you give a very small bit ("a minimum dose") of a disease-causing microorganism or an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism ("like cures like"), which trains the body's immune system to recognize that agent as a threat. Another example is airborne infectious diseases. It is possible to get certain illnesses (such as COVID-19, measles, chickenpox, the flu, and norovirus) if you encounter a "miasm" (what we now call droplets of an airborne infectious disease). The problem with homeopathy is that it's not the 18th century anymore. Science has moved on from using "like cures like" and "miasms" as explanations for illness. We know that "like cures like" is not an effective treatment for every illness, and we know that not all illnesses are "miasms" (airborne). We have a better grasp of things like genetics, viruses, infections, and environmental factors that allow us to more effectively understand what causes illnesses and how to provide effective, reliable treatments for those illnesses. What's the Harm? Problems with Homeopathic "Remedies" Moving on, I want to start with
your last question first. If homeopathic "remedies" are a placebo and they work, why shouldn't we use them? What's the harm? There are three main problems with using homeopathic "remedies" that I want to discuss. The first and most important answer is just that they don't work. I'll do a deeper dive on the evidence against homeopathic "remedies" and why homeopathic "remedies" don't work in a second, but for now, just know that the first problem is that homeopathy can't fix the health problems people are looking to solve. The placebo effect is pretty limited in its scope; it generally works for subjective, patient-reported outcomes such as pain and nausea, but it doesn't usually affect the actual disease. For example, when the placebo effect is used to treat insomnia, patients perceive that they've slept better, but it doesn't actually improve the amount of time it takes a person to fall asleep. The second problem is that homeopathic "remedies" aren't always harmless. While they're generally "unlikely to provoke severe adverse reactions", there have been cases of those "remedies" being taken off of the market because they've caused serious symptoms such as seizures. In the US, homeopathic "remedies" aren't overseen by the FDA in the same what that medications are. As a result, there's no assurance that the substance you think you're getting is what you're actually getting. Frequently, "remedies" are a waste of money because they don't have enough of the active ingredient to work at all. This is especially true if the product you're getting is a "dilution", which intentionally gets rid of the molecules of the original material as a result of the "law of minimum dose", but it can even be true of things like nutritional supplements that you can buy at CVS or Walmart. In the US, there's no group tasked with objectively testing the claims made by companies that sell "remedies", and there's no group making sure that "remedies" don't have ingredients in them that are unsafe. Belladonna, arsenic, and poison ivy have been found at detectable levels in homeopathic "remedies", and cases of arsenic poisoning in particular have occurred. But because homeopathic products are marketed as if they're "drugs", many people assume they wouldn't be allowed to be sold if they weren't good, if they didn't work, or if they were advertising falsely, and so they keep buying them. If you see an individual homeopath, this problem is compounded. "Homeopath" is not a protected term in the US, meaning that anyone can claim to be one. In turn, this means that there's no licensing board that oversees their work, no professional association or government agency that keeps them accountable for their mistakes, and no educational credentials that they need to begin practicing. Your local homeopath may have no background in biology, medicine, chemistry, pharmacology, or even homeopathic or alternative medicine practices. They can literally just be a person, one who you're trusting to cure your ailments and to not accidentally poison you in the process. The last issue I want to bring up is that homeopathy is often (although not always) viewed as being an acceptable replacement for evidence-backed medicine. This means that often, people who see a homeopath aren't seeing a medical doctor, and their symptoms aren't being treated by evidence-based medicine. By not taking an evidence-based approach to intervening in illness, outcomes are significantly worsened, especially for serious, life-threatening conditions such as cancer. Patients have died as a result of opting to take a homeopathic approach to illness instead of receiving proper treatment for diseases that could have been easily managed by evidence-backed medicine. This becomes an even bigger problem when it comes to public health issues. People who view homeopathy as being equal to or better than evidence-backed medicine are more likely to be anti-vaxxers and to not vaccinate their children. Reductions in vaccination rates have led to resurgences of diseases that had previously
been close to elimination. The US has seen a resurgence of whooping cough, measles, and tetanus as a result of anti-vax sentiment. Those resurgences directly endanger people who cannot be vaccinated due to chronic health issues, people with allergies to ingredients in vaccines, and people who cannot choose to be vaccinated, such as children. How Effective Are Homeopathic "Remedies"? Next, let's talk about studies that look into the efficacy of homeopathic "remedies". Government level reviews of homeopathic "remedies" have been conducted by the UK, Australia, and the European Academies' Science Advisory Council. The UK's study found that there was "no compelling evidence of effect". Australia conducted a meta-analysis of 1800 papers, and found that "there were no health conditions for which there was reliable evidence that homeopathy was effective." EASAC found that there was a lack of evidence that homeopathic products are effective, and raised concerns about quality control. Additionally, there have been systemic reviews and meta-analyses of the efficacy of homeopathic "remedies" from doctors, universities, and medical researchers. In 2005, The Lancet (one of the world's oldest, best-known, and respected medical journals) published a meta-analysis looking at the efficacy of homeopathy. Basically, that means that they looked at data from 110 homeopathy trials. These trials were included in the study because they had a completely randomized set of patients who don't know whether they were getting a "homeopathic treatment" or a placebo pill. This type of "blinded" study allows researchers to see how effective the intervention (in this case, a homeopathic "treatment") actually is. Their findings were, "compatible with the notion that the clinical effects of homeopathy are placebo effects". Meta-analyses have also been conducted on the application of homeopathy for individual diseases, including cancer, ADHD, asthma, insomnia, fibromyalgia, dementia, IBS, osteoarthritis, migraines, ecchymosis and edema, and dermatological conditions, and all have found the same result. The UK's NHS, the American Medical Association, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, the National Health Service and Medical Research Council of Australia, the World Health Organization, the American College of Medical Toxicology, the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and even the acting deputy director of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine have all come out against the use of homeopathy, saying that there's "no good quality evidence that homeopathy is effective as treatment for any health condition", recommending that no one use homeopathic "treatments" for disease or as a preventative health measure, and noting that there is evidence that using these treatments can produce harm and indirect health risks. But it Seems Like it Works! What Else Could Have Happened? In terms of what happened with your brother's hyperthyroidism and your nephew's alopecia, I'm perfectly happy to admit that I have no idea. I don't know what the homeopath gave them or what else they were taking or what else they were doing during that period of time that might have changed their health status. I can offer you some hypotheses (and I will in a second), but I don't know, and that's okay. What I do know about is the current state of research on homeopathic "remedies" overall, and how it holds up when subjected to the scientific method. There are a few common culprits for why homeopathy may seem to work. I'm going to go over those now, and then I'll dig into some theories for what may have happened with your brother and nephew. These culprits include:
Placebo effect- we talked about this one earlier, but essentially, if people believe that a "treatment" will work, they're also more likely to believe the "treatment" worked after taking it. As a result, they will report feeling better on subjective measures such as pain.
Natural healing- with time, the body can sometimes heal itself without medical assistance. This is most common for things like viruses.
Therapeutic effect of consultation- care, concern, and reassurance from a compassionate caregiver can have a positive impact on the patient's assessment of their well-being, even if objective assessments of their well-being stay the same.
Regression towards the mean- many conditions and diseases are cyclical. The patient may notice a decrease in symptoms that they attribute to homeopathic "remedies", but are actually just a result of moving to a different stage of the disease cycle.
Cessation of unpleasant treatment- a homeopath may suggest that patients stop receiving medical treatment. Medical treatments can sometimes have unpleasant side effects, and so halting those treatments can make the patient feel better in the short term. The patient attributes the decrease in symptoms to the homeopathic "remedy" but it's actually that they stopped taking a medication that has side effects. In the short term, this feels good, but in the long term it is destructive because the disease isn't being treated.
Non-homeopathic treatment- the patient is also receiving medical care, and the medical care is responsible for the decrease in symptoms, not the homeopathic "remedy".
Unrecognized treatments- an unrelated food, exercise, environmental agent, treatment for a different ailment, etc. is also treating the patient's medical condition and is responsible for the decrease in symptoms.
For alopecia areata (hair loss in patches on the scalp), spontaneous remission is actually more common than you might expect. In most cases that begin with a small number of patches of hair loss, hair grows back after a few months to a year. It's possible that your nephew's hair just... grew back, especially if time had passed. It's also possible your nephew's parents were treating his alopecia other ways (minoxidil, contact immunotherapy, corticosteroids, a gluten free diet if the alopecia was associated with celiac disease) and just didn't tell you or your mum. Hyperthyroidism is a bit more difficult to guess at. It could be that your brother's medical doctors switched him to a different medication that did work or changed his dosage. If you're sure that's not it, it could be that he switched his diet to one that's low iodine and low in caffeine. Research suggests that, although a low iodine diet cannot cure hyperthyroidism, it can reduce or alleviate the symptoms in some people. If your brother went vegetarian, vegan, or stopped eating fish, that could be the culprit. If he stopped taking a multivitamin that contains iodine, that could be it. If he started eating a ton of foods high in goitrogens (soy, cassava, cabbage, cauliflower), that could also contribute to what happened, since goitrogens interfere with the uptake of iodine in the thyroid. It's also possible he was misdiagnosed, but if it's true that he went to "tons of real doctors", that seems fairly unlikely. Again, all of these are just guesses for the purpose of illustrating what confounding factors may have been present. I think the bottom line with stories like these are that you're hearing them secondhand. You don't know how many doctors your nephew or brother saw, or the quality of those doctors, or what they diagnosed, or what they prescribed, or how many different lifestyle changes they tried. You don't know what the homeopath prescribed them, or if they took it. You're hearing a story of miracles through the mouth of a believer, and that can make it difficult to know what is and isn't true (in a medically accurate kind of way). It's possible that your mum's homeopath has stumbled upon a treatment for alopecia and one for hyperthyroidism that work better than traditional medicine. I hope that's true. We can always use better treatments, especially for difficult-to-cure conditions like alopecia. But I think it's more likely that there's just some piece of information you weren't given. What do I do? Getting to your original question, there's not a ton of evidence-backed research (that I could find, at least) for how to change people's minds about homeopathy, but there is data on changing people's minds with regard to vaccines, and I think using those tactics may work in both cases. What to do about your mum's beliefs in homeopathy depend on where those beliefs come from, how entrenched they are, and how it's impacting her life. If she's just someone who tries lifestyle changes and supplements from CVS first before going to a doctor and if she believes in vaccination, homeopathy is a waste of time and money, but it's probably not too big of a problem. In that case, it may not be worth pushing her about it, especially if she hasn't found a new homeopath after her old one passed away. If she's anti-vax and/or refuses to see medical doctors, that's a bigger problem, and it's worth having a conversation about. Changing her views is likely to take time, so be prepared to have at least a few conversations about these topics. And be prepared to step away from the conversation and resume it at a later time if it becomes too contentious. Start by asking her about her fears with regard to evidence-backed medicine. Do your best to be curious rather than judgmental in those conversations and to be a good listener. Respect is the most important tool in changing a person's mind, so try not to interrupt, be dismissive, or combat her beliefs off the bat. Affirm her right to have questions (but not the validity of the actual concern), and
try to say positive things about her in the conversation (for example, "I can see you really want to do everything you can to keep yourself healthy and safe"). Focus on her feelings, not facts. By trying to understand where she's coming from, you can begin to understand where her hesitations are and how those fears might be remedied. For example, a lot of people who believe in homeopathy do so in part because they feel like homeopathic practitioners listen to them, respect them, and care about them more than medical doctors do. They've usually had a bad experience with medical doctors. Knowing where her fears lie gives you a better idea of what she needs in a medical context, and can help you figure out how to dispel misconceptions she has about medicine or find alternatives that actually work. In the case of feeling like medical doctors don't respect her, you may be able to help your mum find a medical doctor who will spend longer with her and really listen to what she has to say. You can try asking her follow-up questions that allow her to investigate her own beliefs. For example, you might try asking about Hahnemann's ideas of "like cures like", "the law of minimum dose" or "water memory" and see how she reacts. Many people, even those who use homeopathic "remedies", don't know the principles that it's based on, and will eventually express skepticism when asked to explain them. It's tempting to try and combat pseudoscience with facts, but studies suggest that presenting facts makes people more likely to cling to their original beliefs. It's better to let people investigate their beliefs on their own through asking the right questions. You might also try this technique. Ask her how likely she would be to see a medical doctor/get a vaccine, on a scale of 0-10. If she says 1 or 0, this strategy isn't going to work. But if she says 2 or 3, then you can ask her why she's not a 0. Why is she not fully saying she won't see a medical doctor or get a vaccine? This forces her to explain what she thinks the positives of medical doctors/vaccinations are. Now you're on the same side; you both think there are some positives to the medical profession. Reinforce those ideas when you talk to her. From there, you can ask what would make her more likely to see a medical doctor/get a vaccine, and when she answers, you can point to the places where those things exist in the medical field. If nothing else works, you could try finding ways to make evidence-based medicine and vaccination compatible with her beliefs. Perhaps you could try using the language of homeopathy to explain medical issues and their treatments. For example, with COVID, it might work to tell her that COVID is a miasm, and that researchers used "like cures like" and the “law of minimum dose” to create a vaccine to remove the miasm from the "vital force". All of that is technically true, at least in a sense. It's just not the language scientists would use to describe what happens. To Sum It Up The medical establishment definitely has issues it needs to work on. The lack of compassionate, respectful care in many medical settings is a real problem, and it has real consequences. There are some situations in which a placebo is a potentially valid approach to treatment. But the answer is not to encourage homeopathy. It's to do more research, develop better drugs, and change the ways that doctors interact with their patients. Homeopathy doesn't work, and it does potentially have harmful side effects, both on a personal and societal level. The way we can combat homeopathy is to be curious and respectful, to help people identify and work through their concerns, and to offer them solutions to their medical problems that take those concerns into account.

Hi there is something I want to address in the roleplay community but before I do that, I would like to give my background. I am a Korean woman who’s grown up in Korea with Korean experiences raised with post Japanese Imperialism effects, who moved at a very young age to America. I have seen and heard that many of the writing content here is euro-centric or for a lack of better words, ‘white’. Anyways, [1/12]
( cont’d ) there is this roleplay that I came across which I was initially very excited about but at a second glance I noticed very alarming issues that were not brought to the forefront until recently. Prior to this admin’s announcements, there were no instances of drawing upon Korean Mythology, Korean culture or Korean culture research. It was denoted from my first glance that it would be heavily coded in specifically Chinese and Japanese history and inspiration. The admin’s roleplay previously was also using Im Jinah (임진아) a korean woman who is put in this japanese-chinese inspired verse without being appropriately aware of Korea. While the admin did attempt to amend she classified the situation as a “historical situation” which completely offends and upsets me. The society that exists in South Korea after all that has happened from Japanese Imperialism is not just a “situation” its lingering effects still exist. There are comfort woman who experienced brutal r*pe, people’s family members who were murdered and irreversible health and body damage. Family heirlooms and property were stolen or destroyed. Innocent people were used as animals as experiments. This is not just a “historical situation.” I followed up with my own anonymous message in hopes that this admin would readily apologize and acknowledge that she needs to learn more but from her response she states she is just “human and not perfect” when this is not about her. This is about saying you are wrong and you are sorry and that you will do better. But that did not happen. What upsets me further is seeing other people / anons being dismissive of her pulling “asian inspiration” and that she’s not “copy and pasting” countries histories. Well I hate to break it to all you white people (yes all of you who have invalided me, for making fun of my eyes, for eating smelly kimchi, for making fun of the fact that I have an accent when I speak) but inspiration or not, there is always historical context and awareness when you “pull from history.” I am beyond disappointed and upset at the Western hemisphere for its lack of awareness and willingness to see things from a NON AMERICAN point of view. Anyways as a korean woman with very real korean experiences, I do not think any of this is acceptable and I do not think any of those people who think this is a “big deal and waste of time” or “nit picky and ridiculous standard” is any excuse to address very real issues. To say that this is also “just fantasy, it’s not historical” and “it is fantasy, get over it.” It is impossible to say fantasy and history does not go hand in hand (Game of Thrones utilizes War of Roses, Harry Potter talks about World War II and H*tler). Does my life and my culture and heritage sound like a joke for you to use how you please? With no respect and awareness for my people and my existence? For saying all this you are ignorant and have no right to be portraying any aspect of the Asian experience. I want people to be held accountable for their wrongdoings and I apologize if my english is not perfect, it’s my second language. I send this to you because I heard your platform is a safe space for POC muns. I do not trust the admin to credibly and honestly answer all of this without trying to victimize herself first. @scarletsaints and @unholyempire. Thank you.
+ another anon :
Hi G, I am absolutely appalled to witness racism in the roleplay community in 2020. I attempted to use my voice on a recent rolelplay @unholyempire speaking from my own Japanese experience growing up LGBTQ+ in Hawaii. However I am highly disturbed this admin has not apologized for her actions and I quote "has made you others uncomfortable I am happy to adapt" rather than acknowledge that she was wrong and that she sincerely apologies. To continue further, I am FURIOUS that people are commending her behavior and deny GLARINGLY racist viewpoints and shutting down POC voices as “rude and bullies.” How dare you all praise this admin for hardly even doing the bare minimum. How dare you dismiss voices of color and tell us WE’RE the ones overreacting when it is our culture and our history. This IS NOT OK! DO NOT PROMOTE RACISM. DO NOT STAND BY RACISTS
to both of you , thank you so much for speaking up and sharing your experiences with me . i know it’s really really hard to do especially when others are ‘ commending ‘ the person who has hurt you and your community , as respectively , a japanese and korean person . you’ve both spoken up and for that i really do appreciate and commend you . it’s such a hard thing to do . i don’t have anything to really say because you both said it perfectly and i think it’s extremely important to bring up and talk about . your experiences matter . the way this is dealt with matters . i hope we can get you some acknowledgement and proper apologies for how this was dealt with because it’s simply not okay . i stand with you both , i support you .
as always , i’d like to invite @unholyempire into this conversation to properly , finally address this and offer an apology to both of these anons , and to the asian community who you have hurt with your roleplay and methods . please listen to muns of colour in the rpc . again , a general reminder : please don’t send any hate to anybody . this is an open space , for an open conversation , with genuine feelings and things that need to be addressed .

Hanzo x reader - fight me
Being a new recruit was never easy. You were treated as the underling from the lack of experience you had, much unlike your peers who seem to come from a military background. With only sports as your background experience, you went through more rigorous training than the other trainees. You wished to show your supervisors, in this case, was the head of overwatch Jack Morrison, that you were more than a pretty face. Spending numerous hours in the training suit, you managed to work yourself to death trying to develop your physical strength with sheer fortitude.
“Agent [l/n], you’ve exceeded your latest physical combat and endurance examination with an impeccable score. It is most impressive, good work soldier” The older male said, his lips formed a small smile of approval.
“Thank you, sir” you said as you tried to contain your heavy breathing. The firm gaze the Commander had on you was intimidating yet you did not wither under his scrutiny.
“However, in order to truly improve yourself and rank up, you must be faced with a more advanced opponent” Jack continued. You wondered whether the commander himself would spare with you, though it was a daunting task. You cocked your head in confusion, silently prompting him to continue. The commander chuckled lightly at your uncertain look.
“I’m assigning you to work with Hanzo Shimada from the recon squad. His skill is admirable in both combat and on the battlefield, so I feel you will greatly benefit from this, agent” Jack said as he placed a hand on your shoulder as a sign of reassurance.
“I…yes sir, thank you for this opportunity!” You say, a little too loud and excitedly. The other trainees look in your direction and you cower a little from the attention. An embarrassed blush forms as you fidget.
“Tomorrow at 0700 sharp, come to the training grounds and I will introduce you.”
“Don’t take it easy yet Agent, I assure you Hanzo will not be an easy opponent” The commander chuckled as he walked away, leaving you to soak in his words.
As you watched Jack form disappearing, you heaved a deep sigh you’ve been holding in. You then stretched, feeling your bones crack and ‘pop’ in certain joints released the built-up tension you’ve been building up.
‘Mann, I just wanna rest all week, my bones are gonna break any day’  you thought as you let out another sigh then headed back to your room for a shower. The day went on without another hitch. A couple of scouting lessons and then dinner.
Your mind wandered to the oncoming task, you realised you haven’t once met the mentioned male. Sure, you’ve heard of Hanzo, a renowned archer for his unprecedented skill with the bow, and how he caused a form of anxiety amongst the trainees due to his background and impressive status. Though you have yet to meet the man in question, it didn’t deter your determination as you had confidence in your combating skills.
It was evening, in time for dinner. You were a naturally reserved individual yet you made acquaintances with a couple of members from the other squads. Swiftly, you finished your dinner and decided to head back to your bedroom.
After a while of wandering through the white pristine halls, your anxious mind kept thinking of the possible outcomes tomorrow. With a sigh, you headed out toward the garden, behind the building. Stepping out into the cool air of the night, you felt revitalised from the comforting cold breeze.
“it is a fine night, would you not agree?” A voice said behind you, catching you off guard. You yelped a little as you flinched at the sudden voice. You turn, coming face to face with the owner of the voice. A hint of a smile was present on the male’s features.
“My apologies for my unannounced presence” The male said. You glanced up, taking in his unusual choice of clothing yet admired his silky locks and intricate sleeve of tattoo that covered his arm and chest.
“I-It’s no problem, I was just  …a little surprised that’s all” you nervously chuckled. The male cracked a small smile as he looked over your figure. You felt small under his gaze, you looked away and out at the sky.
Unbeknownst to you, Hanzo found you ethereal in the moonlight. He couldn’t help himself when he began approaching you from behind, his heart seems to have controlled his movements when he found himself speaking to you. Watching you flinch, caused a warm swelling in his usual cold being, you were causing a mystical change to the older Shimada.
“Sorry, I don’t think I introduced myself. I’m [y/n] [l/n]” you smiled as you stretched your hand out toward the male. He gladly accepted with a hint of a smile. His firm grip caused excited flutters in your
“It’s a pleasure [y/n]. I’m afraid I must take my leave. I am certain faith will make our paths cross once more in the near future” the taller Asian male said, his accent noticeable and soothing.
Before you could interject, the unnamed male took his leave. You felt a little foolish for not getting the handsome Asians name and mentally scolded yourself.
‘What the heck [y/n]??! You didn’t even get his name, you fool!” you screamed in your head, your hands tangled in your hair in frustration.
With a sigh, you calmed yourself down and headed to your room, getting ready for tomorrows task.
Hanzo’s POV.
Hanzo left you outside with a feeling of minimal satisfaction. Earlier, the strike commander approached the archer to request a friendly sparring with another agent, you. Whilst slightly reluctant he still accepted the proposal given by Jack. Jack had mentioned you were easily climbing your way up the ranks with your combat and intellectual skills and Hanzo wanted to get a first-hand impression of the so-called ‘advanced trainee’.
The Japanese male was meditating in his room, mentally preparing for tomorrow’s sparring when thoughts of you entered his once calm mind. After he saw you, his heart began hammering at an alarming rate, severely confusing the male. Emotions like these were never enticed before and this was an odd sensation he welcomed.
With a ‘tut’, a sly smirk began forming at the corners of his firm lips as he remembered what he had told you.
“Our paths will certainly cross more than once, my dear [y/n]” he said to himself, a humorless chuckle followed.
Time Skip
The day had arrived of the fated combat. Despite it being labeled as ‘friendly sparring against talented agents’ you took it much more personal. The strike commander himself was testing your abilities and if you won, you were promised an advancement in your ranks.
The passing of breakfast and an early morning run was quick and you left for the training room, where a number of trainees gathered along with Jack. As you opened the door, all eyes immediately shifter toward your approaching form. The golden commander looked back and greeted you.
“Morning agent, glad to see you didn’t chicken out” Morrison chuckled, his eyes glinting with anticipation for the days’ event.
“This is my only opportunity to prove myself, of course, I wouldn’t flee that easily” you say with a grin, excitement and adrenaline filling your veins.
A sly grin makes its appearance on his face as he commends you for your determined attitude.
“Now then, just to wait- never mind he’s here” Jack began before being interrupted by the door once more. Everyone including you turned toward the door to see your opponent.
In that instant, you felt your heart flip in a million different directions. The same attractive male from yesterday! A flaming blush began forming as you gaped at the sight of him.
“I-it’s… You!” you yelled accusingly as you pointed at the figure.
“Did I not tell you, our paths would cross sooner than you anticipated” He said, a hint of smugness noticeable in his words.
“Well, I sense some familiarity here, but let me give a proper introduction. [y/n], this is Hanzo Shimada, a respectable archer from the Shimada clan located in Hanamura, Japan. Hanzo, this is –“Before the commander could finish, Hanzo interjected.
“I am familiar with agent [y/n] [l/n], thank you” He said, a monotonous manner.
You rolled your eyes at his manner, despite his handsome looks, his smug demeanor seemed to irritate you.
“Let get this over with!” you say, a little too loud for your own liking. Both Hanzo and Jack looked at you.
A smile formed on the commander’s lips as he clapped to get everyone’s attention.
“Ya heard the girl, get to positions!” with an authoritative voice, everyone moved aside and let you and Hanzo in the middle of the room.
Your intent gaze met the dark pairs of Hanzo’s soulful eyes.
“I will not take it easy on you, dear [y/n]” Hanzo spoke to you, a slight smile visible.
“I wouldn’t wish for it” you smirk and stand in position.
Jack stood between you two, to commence the fight.
“Ready? Start!” with that, you launched yourself at the male.
You began with a solid punch toward his handsome face. In a swift manner, his hand countered your punch. Then in a split second, you retrieve your hand and move out the way for his oncoming blow. You missed his leg trying to swipe under you and fell with a thud. With a groan look up and see Hanzo’s fist coming to strike you for which you fluidly grab it and pull him close enough to head-but the smug male. You took advantage of his dazed state, as you grabbed his arm and attempted to twist it behind his back. It was as if he snapped back to reality and foresaw your endeavor. Hanzo lifted his leg and with full force drove it in your gut. You staggered back, coughing in the process. Before you knew it, you were being held down by the more experienced Japanese male. You struggled against his hold but that only prompted him to further drive to dig you into the ground with his weight and grasp tightening on your arm.
“That’s enough Hanzo” upon hearing that, Hanzo promptly got off you. You got up, refusing his outstretched arm and glared at him.
You stood aback from Hanzo and watched with fire in your eyes. How could you let him win?!
“It was a fair fight but seemed like Hanzo had the upper hand” Jack concluded.
Hanzo watched your glare with apologetic eyes. He felt a tinge of regret and frustration, he must’ve hurt you in the process he thought. But, he couldn’t help but admire the way you held your form in battle. With such grace and force, you were an ideal partner for both sparrings and on the battlefield. A warmth had spread through his being as he watched you squirm beneath him, filling his mind with indecent thoughts.
“Looks like you’ve got a bit to work on there agent [y/n]” Jack said before telling the other trainees to go for their next session. Jack left with the others, leaving you alone with Hanzo.
“I apologize if I have caused you any discomfort [y/n]” He said sincerely, with no trace of mocking.
You scoffed and walked away.
“You’re obviously a much better fighter than me, there’s no need for such familiarity” you spoke coldly.
“But [y/n], I wish to indulge in a mutual friendship with you, if you would allow” He pleaded for you to give him a chance.
You were being slightly unreasonably cold to the male for winning against you, yet this was the only obstacle in your way of further advancing in the next ranks. However, it was an order from the commander for which he could not disobey, nor would you have been satisfied if he was to purposely lose against you. It was a rather uncomfortable predicament you’ve landed into.
“I wish to be nothing more than opponents, agent Shimada. So… please don’t try to incite something more” you softly trailed away, feeling disappointed in yourself and looking toward the ground for some form of comfort.
You waited a moment, hoping for him to try and stop you again. The air was filled with a tense silence. You sighed and left the room with more on your mind than disappointment and frustration.
Hanzo stood there and watched your retrieving form disappear through the doors. He had noticed the change in your demeanor yet he kept it to himself. He saw the feeling of dismay took over you as your head hung low and your feet lightly dragging on the ground as you left. Hanzo clutched his chest as it felt like his heart dropped at that moment. He cursed himself for doing this, though he was not given a choice.
‘This cannot go on. I must make amends with [y/n], perhaps then will I feel at ease’
He needed you to acknowledge his regret and these mysterious build-ups of emotions he had not experienced before. He wished to experience them with you and you only. Hanzo pledged to himself gain your trust and perhaps something more along the way.

When you got home after your lunch with May, it was nearing seven o’clock already. Even though both of you had finished two full bottles of wine, neither of you felt drunk in the slightest, so you stayed together for a little while longer just to complain about life to each other.
You ended up telling May about your roommate situation and, surprisingly, she was very calm and collected about it. You were almost confused when she shrugged her shoulders and went, “so what? You’re both adults, you can live together without dating.” You were sure the rest of your friends – although older than May – weren’t going to be as mature and understanding as she was, so you chose not to tell the rest of them yet.
Right now, you needed May’s indifferent attitude to brace yourself for coming back home and facing Jaebum – and however his date with Lily was going to end. Trying to soak up May’s maturity, you ended up staying with her longer than either of you had intended. You only got home seven hours after you’d left.
Jaebum didn’t appear to be home when you got back and you exhaled in relief. He was either still working or he’d already left for his date. Either way, instead of being upset about the fact that he had a date, you chose to enjoy your night alone and headed for the bathroom.
As soon as you checked the water in the sink and the shower both, however, your irritation from before returned. As expected, Jaebum hadn’t done anything about the water and it was still very much freezing.
Getting your phone out, you quickly texted him, not caring that he might have been on a date.
Tumblr media
With every second that passed without his response, you were growing angrier. You were truly on the verge of going on a wild goose chase and just locating him yourself by the time your phone buzzed with his text.
Tumblr media
You spent the first minute after you received this texts typing a long, at least, 200-word text that truly demonstrated your vast knowledge of swear words in all the languages that you’ve ever had to study, but then you deleted all of it, deciding against it. He didn’t deserve you wasting your time yelling at him, no matter how much you despised him at that moment.
If you couldn’t even take a proper shower, your whole night was basically ruined. Meanwhile, Jaebum would have a nice time on his date. It wasn’t fair and it pissed you off.
You swore your payback to him for all of this would be changing the locks of the apartment but then, once again, you decided against it. Maybe you were too kind, or maybe you just didn’t want to bother with the hassle. He didn’t deserve all of the money and energy you’d spend on this, either.
Maybe the best choice would be to just give him the cold shoulder – or completely ignore him and live as if he didn’t exist – until he actually fixed the water. Or maybe ignore him indefinitely – that was an option, too.
You threw on a hoodie, putting the hood on your head for more comfort, and then brought your laptop to the kitchen, since it was the only room in your apartment with actual chairs. You didn’t really feel like editing pictures on your bed the whole night. You could already imagine how badly your back would hurt after you did that.
As soon as you sat down, however, you ended up checking every social media you owned, instead of actually doing work. You didn’t have any official deadlines, though, so that was a relief, but you had traveled across the city last week to take pictures at this wonderful park that Hyojin had told you about, and you still haven’t edited any of them. Even if no one – aside from you and your friends – would see these photographs, you still felt like you had to make them a bit more presentable.
Although technically, the art gallery you worked in did exhibit photography, it was also one of the biggest galleries in the city so, naturally, you didn’t even dream of ever getting an exhibition of your work there. You were proud of your work – you truly enjoyed photography and, honestly, after all of these years, you could finally admit that your photographs were truly starting to look decent, for the lack of a better word – but you also had realistic expectations. It would be nice to just be recognized by a professional photographer. Getting your own exhibition was far too ambitious.
When, two hours later, you finally opened up Photoshop and actually started to work, you thought you heard something in the apartment. You figured that had to just be background noise in the song you were listening to on your headphones, but then, as you turned your head slightly, – you caught a shadow moving out of the corner of your eye and had to check if this was just your imagination, – your eyes met two silhouettes, entangled together in the hallway.
You could barely make out who it was since the only source of light in the apartment came from the screen of your laptop, but you didn’t have to think very hard to figure out who the people were.
It was Jaebum and Lily, locked in a tight embrace, their mouths on each other.
Closing your eyes as you turned away from them, you pulled on the strings of your hoodie, tightening the hood around your head, and then turned the music up so you could tune out the sound of them making out barely a few meters away from you. You didn’t really freeze on the spot as you heard them move towards Jaebum’s bedroom because your heart was beating wildly in your chest. You’ve never wished to just disappear before because that wish always seemed stupid, but, God, the things you would have done if you could have just teleported out of your kitchen right then.
Jaebum noticed you, though. He didn’t say anything – thank God for that – but that was probably because, aside from looking horrified, you also looked pissed off. You couldn’t do anything about it. Even if you’d wanted to look neutral, you wouldn’t have been able to. Your roommate was about to have sex with someone right next to your room, there was no way you were going to give him a thumbs-up and yell out encouraging words at him all throughout the night while you spent your evening working.
And then, not really having any bad intentions, Jaebum ended up not pulling Lily into his bedroom. He pulled her into yours.
After gasping quietly once you saw him do that, you tried to rationalize. Jaebum had slept on your mattress the night before, so, maybe the fact that he was willing to sleep there tonight, too – and with a girl, no less – was his way of apologizing in advance about what he was going to do in there. Not that he had to apologize for sleeping with someone. He was free to do whatever he wanted.
There was another part of your mind that considered this to be Jaebum’s way of establishing dominance by basically kicking you out of your room, but you didn’t think that was the case. Jaebum wasn’t eager to give his own room up. He wouldn’t do it just to prove a point to you.
Sighing, you accepted the fact that you’d have to sleep in Jaebum’s room again. You weren’t planning to, but he had made this decision for you. And yet, even with the knowledge that you’d get to sleep on a proper bed again while Jaebum would be stuck spending the night on a mattress on the floor, you were still upset.
Obviously, Jaebum had a successful date – you could hear the praise from Lily’s lips as Jaebum struggled to lock the bedroom. You, on the other hand? The most recent thing that came close to a date for you was a hook-up with a guy you met at a bar. It didn’t exactly end well since you were now stuck listening to him have sex with someone else.
You had no doubt you’d have to endure Jaebum brag about this the next morning, so, as you gathered your laptop and headed to his bedroom, you tried to convince yourself that the boiling rage in your stomach was only caused because he had a more successful love life than you did, and not because of a reason as stupid as jealousy.
Tumblr media
Your alarm clock woke you up at six-thirty the next morning and you spent the first five minutes trying to convince yourself not to kill anyone. It’s become a habit by now. You thoroughly hated waking up early.
What made your morning worse – excluding the fact that Tuesdays were your first work day of the week – was the cold shower you ended up having to take because Jaebum broke something when he’d attempted to mess with you by turning the hot water off. You really couldn’t believe you haven’t moved out yet.
And then, as if going out of the bathroom with your teeth chattering wasn’t already bad enough, you walked right into Lily, exiting your bedroom. Jaebum was probably still asleep inside of it.
Before you even said anything, you noticed Lily’s wide and confused eyes. You realized that, although Lily had seen you and Jaebum move in, perhaps she hadn’t really seen you. And, judging from her shocked expression, Jaebum wasn’t very open about his living arrangements on their date, either.
“Hey,” you chose to say to clear the awkward silence. “I rent the apartment here. I live in the room next to Jaebum’s.”
Technically, the Jaebum’s room, as Lily knew it, was, of course, your room. But that was a long story and you weren’t really up for a heart-to-heart with Jaebum’s date this early in the morning.
“Coffee?” you asked from the kitchen after Lily remained frozen in the hallway.
She heard everything you’d just said because she nodded in acknowledgment but that didn’t help her feel less weirded out by this. You could tell by her eyes that if she’d known Jaebum lived with a girl – even if she’s just a roommate – she wouldn’t have gone out with him the night before.
“Uh, no thanks,” she finally spoke. “I have to go to work in a few hours. Do you mind if I just take a shower?”
“Oh, we only have cold water,” you said as you poured water from the sink and into the coffee pot.
You weren’t looking at her, so you didn’t see the way Lily opened and closed her mouth multiple times as if trying to decide what to say. You realized a little too late that you didn’t exactly sound welcoming – but were you supposed to? You’ve never had to deal with any sort of one-night-stands, or whoever Lily was to Jaebum, in the morning, not even your own – so she instantly started to feel like you just wanted her out of here.
“Alright,” she said then, lots of uncomfortable undertones hiding in her voice. “I’m going to go then. It was, um—it was nice to meet you.”
“Yeah,” you called after her as Lily headed for the door of the apartment, not giving you a chance to offer to walk her out. Not that you were going to. “Nice to meet you, too.”
Not having bothered to ask for your name, Lily exited your apartment by herself, shutting the door loudly – by accident, no doubt – and heading to her own apartment as quickly as possible. She’d take a shower at her own place. Why did she even think showering at Jaebum’s apartment was a good idea? She truly should have gotten out of there as soon as she woke up, maybe that way she would have avoided you and your uncomfortable first meeting.
As Lily cherished the peacefulness of her own apartment, she made a promise to herself to never sleep with any of her neighbors again. At least not until she was certain they weren’t living with female roommates who added a new level of awkwardness to the already awkward concept of “the-morning-after.”
Tumblr media
When Jaebum walked out of the bedroom, you were already washing the dishes after finishing your breakfast. You glanced at him and noticed the way his wary eyes scanned the apartment.
“She left,” you said helpfully. “I’m sure she thinks I kicked her out, though, so keep in mind to apologize to her on my behalf.”
“Oh, thank God,” Jaebum sighed, walking into the kitchen. You could still smell Lily’s perfume on him from last night and, for some reason, you had to talk yourself out of openly gagging. “I hate having to talk to them the next morning.”
“Huh,” you replied. “Never would have guessed that.”
Jaebum got your not-so-subtle dig. “Ha-ha. I’m not trying to pretend to be someone I’m not. I’m just putting it like it is.”
“A little sugarcoating would actually be nice,” you said, turning around from the sink to see him leisurely leaning against the kitchen island, reading texts on his phone. “So, you’re planning to never talk to her again?”
“Yeah,” he replied nonchalantly. “That’s the plan.”
“You’re disgusting,” you said although you knew your words wouldn’t reach their target. Jaebum merely raised his eyes to look at you.
“We never made any promises to see each other again. She knows that,” he said. “If it’d been long-term, I wouldn’t have taken her back here yet.”
It stung somehow. You had an idea that this was how some guys – if not most – operated: they saw someone they liked, and they checked how easy that someone was by taking them back to their place. In all truth, more than half of those people probably didn’t care about hearing from these guys the next morning, but there was a small number of people who did care. You were among them. Maybe Lily was, too.
“Did she explicitly say she didn’t want this to turn into a relationship?” you asked, doubtful. “I really don’t think she wanted to have a one-night-stand with her neighbor. She had to know she’d end up having to see you again eventually.”
Jaebum shrugged his shoulders. “I told her that. I said to her that I’m not looking for a relationship. She said she wasn’t, either. Don’t bother lecturing me about it.”
You still didn’t like this. But you weren’t sure if you were defending Lily specifically or if you had some sort of a personal motive to accuse him of not being an ideal guy.
Crossing your arms over your chest, you continued, “why are you so—”
“God, look,” he groaned, annoyed by your patronizing tone. “I’m not that big of a douchebag, okay? When I sleep around, I make sure the other party knows about my intentions.”
“Oh, you do?” you scoffed. “I never knew.”
Jaebum frowned. “What?”
“Whatever,” you turned around, not in the mood to get closure about the morning he left your apartment after leaving you a dry thank-you note. You were evidently still very bitter about that and just this memory was enough to make your blood boil. “Fix the fucking water while I’m at work, would you?”
“I have work, too,” he responded, his voice equally as annoyed as yours.
“Tough shit,” you countered, noticing how much you started to swear whenever you were angered. “And change the fucking sheets on the mattress in my room. I’m not fucking sleeping in your room anymore.”
“I gave you the better bed for tonight,” Jaebum said. “And this is how you repay me?”
“Oh, gee, thanks,” you turned around to give him the fakest smile you could manage. “How sweet of you. Roommate of the year!”
He rolled his eyes.
“You’re truly annoying to deal with,” he said and heard your laughter from your room as you went in to gather your essentials. He ignored it and continued, “and here I thought we’d end up bonding.”
You laughed again.
“It’s you who’s annoying. And you’re stupid, too,” you said perhaps a little too childishly and then, after completely disregarding every conversation you had with him when he was still Def – the future, female roommate – to you, you added, “you and I will never bond. We have nothing in common.”
