Hiiii i saw you wanted to try getting into digital art!! I have an ipad and apple pen so I usually play around with procreate (one time payment app) or ibis (free but you can view adds to use certain brushes for 24 hours) for art. but there are also drawing tablets like wacom and huion that you can use for the computer and laptop. Wacom is known and usually used by professionals but it can get expensive. Huion is also known as a good cheaper alternative that works just as great.

Art programs on the computer that are free and used by a lot of artists are fire alpaca, medibang and krita. I’ve tried medibang and krita theyre great, didn’t really like fire alpaca much but that’s more of a personal/user issue 😅. if you have extra money you can try paint tool sai (i think tina uses version 2 of this program!) or clip studio paint. If you have it already (or can pirate it), photoshop is also great and is used by professionals in the industry.

For tutorials, I recommend looking for it on youtube based on the program you’re using such as “[art program] [thing you want to practice/draw] tutorial” and usually a ton pops up! There are also brushes that are meant to mimic watercolor or charcoal painting online! Just search for it by “[art program] [type of brush you’re looking for] brush free” and some should pop up!

Sorry for the whole info dump ahaaa. But you dont really need fancy equipment or art program to get into art especially if it’s just a hobby. I know there are a lot of artists (even here in the fandom) who uses their phone and finger paints using free apps like ibis. There is definitely a learning curve when it comes to digital art vs traditional but once you learn a bit on how some things work it gets easier. Just have fun with it, and learn at your own pace! i have an ipad!! so i might just work there but i also have a drawing tablet like one of the ones you plug into a computer i got it as a birthday present a few years ago so that's also an option ig, im still looking at different programs but thank you for your suggestions :))

Finished Wireframes

I also finished up my extra versions of my wireframe designs, so that i had some options/ variations to choose from for each of the 4 pages im doing. I’ve chosen to make the Homepage, the Menus page, the Bar page and the Contact page. I will now continue to move my wireframes into photoshop and add colour and images, as i have for my homepage (inserted in style guide).

These are my paper variations for the other 3 pages.

At first i found it quite confusing, about how to structure my wireframe and how it differed from my sitemap. So I watched some youtube vidoes and looked at images and then i was able to make my own. I found it very helpful overall as it’s a clear guide/ frame that i can just easily copy into photshop and then Wix, adding the content as i go along.

Is it hard to be an owner of a net? At least after when things settle down and you have members?

so i am no longer the physical or mental owner of socnet (spiritually yes) but i will tell you my experience with socnet was the best experience w a net ive ever had. i was also an admin of the harrypotternetwork (god knows what url theyre under now) and owned several other smaller nets.

to anyone looking at starting up a successful network, the biggest factor in socnet’s success was the fact that it was a medium-sized fandom. anything smaller and you struggle with enough applications and enough participation. 

i divided socnet up into four groups - the dregs, the dime lions, the razorgulls, and the black tips. every gang had its leader, and i was the leader of leaders. this works in a way that i wasnt in charge of Everything and could delegate things that needed to be done amongst my admins, but if a squabble broke out there was still one voice in power. i will also say the biggest factor of a successful network is communication. communicate everything!!!!

having good editing skills is important. as a community, socnet supported people regardless of talent or skill, and encouraged everyone to practice and put forth their best work, but we did give the more public work to the users who got more notes on their edits. event banners, graphics for the site, it all had to look professionally done, that was important to me, and i think also important in the way that, other users would want to join thinking, wow everything here looks so good maybe i can better my photoshop skills with these skilled users! and we fostered a big teaching environment, not just on the basics of photoshop but also prompts to get people out of their comfort zone and try new techniques.

its all about the people. if you have good people with a good connection, the network will run itself. applications will be rich because of word of mouth, conversations will be lively because everyone has friends that are already in the net. having applications open periodically, but not all the time, generally created hype as there was a “oh the socnets applications are open im so excited to join!!” energy. kind of like a Limited Time Offer!!! deal. i remember we had a soft, friend-only start, just to dip our toes in the water, maybe 10 people. then, when we first opened up public applications, i believe we got over 100 applications in the span of 2 weeks. 

you can certainly put a net on autopilot once its all set up and running but a network functions best when everyone is involved, including the owner. its not that its hard to run a net, but i will say once i started working full time, i could no longer find the time to a) run the network b) participate in edit challenges c) also be a part of the other networks i was in d) have a full time job e) manage a social life outside of tumblr. if you feel like your plate is already full but youre determined to open up a network, i would rely heavily on a group of admins to help you run it. and remember - the bigger the fandom, the bigger the interest.

Adobe Rant

Alright, I do this about every 3-6 months to Cor and I can’t at the moment so you guys are getting this.

I fucking hate Adobe.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love their software!! Which is why I’m so angry at them and why I hate them so much. 

I ended up going to this magnet school for middle school and there was what I think was a mandatory tech class for the first two years and an optional one for the third. I took it all three years, and while I wasn’t that great at anything in particular, I was trained how to do a bit of everything (besides coding, I opted out of that to ditz around in Blender and now kinda regret it?) in Photoshop, Flash/That-Which-Is-Now-Called-Animate, and taught the super basics of tossing together an amature website in Dreamweaver. We got basic instruction in Blender, as well as this other program I can never remember. It was all on Mac, so familiar territory for me since I’ve been penned in by my dad’s obsession with Apple devices despite their outrageous prices.

Trouble was that I was trained on CS4. So by the time I got to high school/college, Adobe had moved out of the single payment model of the CS line and into their money grubbing subscription based Creative Cloud (CC) line. 

Instead of buying a program for a one time only sticker price that was admittedly a crazy amount to begin with, you now can only purchase the license to the software. You need a license to use it, which previously came with the one time purchase and was lifetime/as long as that thing survived. Haha well they only let you get that license and thus access to the software now on a monthly or annual subscription. Instead of a swift kick to the nuts/ovaries of $300-$600, you now are slowly bled of $20-$50+ A MONTH. 

This wouldn’t be as much of a problem if they had continued supporting their CS line, but nope. Adobe pretty much dropped it. Not only that, but now students are forced into this bullshit monthly plan instead of getting a much MUCH less expensive single rate from their university or college when they are required to use things like Photoshop, Illustrator (I’m going to have to get that soon which is part of why I’m so pissed), Flash/Animate, or anything else. Some universities do offer a decreased yearly rate for Adobe CC, but that’s still around $150 for my uni, and not only is it restricted to the first 1000 students that apply for it, but the reduced annual rate only lasts for ONE YEAR. Hi, last I checked, a degree takes anywhere from two to four to six or more years, you fucks! It’s like Adobe thinks every college student goes “HERPDEDERP IM A COLLEGE STUDENT IMMA BE MAKIN BIG MONEY AFTER A YEAR OF EDUCATION!”

I went browsing the Adobe questions forum and found someone asking if Adobe is going to go back to the single payment (which they could still rake in $500 a pop if they wanted jfc) system because they couldn’t afford the monthly payments. 

Some lady with a star next to her name and a ‘certified adobe professional user’ or some shit says, and I’m quoting here, “If you can’t afford it, you’re probably not ready for professional software yet. Try Inkscape, it’s free.”

Lady, you don’t even KNOW this person! Offering Inkscape is a good fucking idea, yeah. But don’t preface it by snootily saying in essence, ‘oh. You’re not professional. You don’t make money off your work. You’re not good enough for professional software.”

BITCH I WAS USING THIS SHIT IN FUCKING MIDDLE SCHOOL. I WAS ELEVEN FUCKING YEARS OLD! Adobe has shown absolutely no sign that they’re even listening. It’s all about draining people of money at this point and it’s working for them due to the fact that it these programs were firmly embedded in millions of jobs and lives to the point that some businesses couldn’t work without them, or people would lose tons of money while retraining on a freeware alternative due to being unable to afford the new CC software. 

I’ve been seething about this for years now. As I get deeper into my degree I’m starting to encounter reminders that for several courses after this semester I’m required to have Adobe Illustrator or a freeware equivalent which has a sketchy version for Mac that may or may not be compatible. Even in my off time/hobbies, I’ve been toying with the handful of Mac-friendly animation freewares and the learning curves for most that have the features I’d like are so steep that it’s a waste of effort and time. 

Anyway, rant not over, but deflated enough that I can go back to watching Netflix.  

Fuck you Adobe.

Stockvault hosts over 35,000 royalty-free images, graphics, and designs from photographers, designers, and students around the world. As long as you stay on the “Free Stock Photos” rather than the “Premium Stock Photos” tab, you have access to a huge library of photos to use on social media.

10. Negative Space

This site adds new free CC0 stock photos every week. These images are searchable by category, position, and color. Follow Negative Space on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates on when new images are added.

Photoshop is a software used for editing and creating. You can encounter some important tools that can enhance your editing and can give some special effects to your photo. Mostly the users of this are those Creative Professional like Photographers , Graphics Artists and such. I used Photoshop in all my activities and you will know what those activities that i made. 

Digital Cosmetology -This is the Digital Cosmetology photo editing using adobe photoshop. The tools that i used is the Skin Change and Blur Tool. From youtube tutorial i learned on how to clear the skin by following the procedures like pointing the face and then use the blur tool it would become clear after that. 

Colorized -This things that i made through editing is from black and white photo change into colorized one and make it looks so real. I am so mucj enjoyed and have fun to do this while im on the process of editing the photo that i chose. Through watching the youtube tutorial i know already how to fix or edit my chosen photo and i followed some steps but of course , it's up to us you wanna be to your photo like from skin color ,clothing color and such. This is my first , for me its really hard but im trying to learned about it. 

Brush Effect -This one i used Brush Effects on the photo to look beautiful and very creative, aside from that we need to change the background into fading light color like white , pink or such as long as lighr colors that can focus on the object. From youtube tutorial i learned and understand on how to used the Brush Effect. 

Social Trendy - Most of us want to be Creative, Fashionable and being unique in what we do is just like beautifying a picture to look trendy. Anyway, i am so happy with what i did and very inspiring even though i am not inclined to do such thing. I can't believe what i did but it gives me smile on my face after all. I only watched and followed the youtube tutorial to do this kind of editing skills. 

REALIZATION - My realization about these activities is, it will not only bring happiness or for fun but you will also learn a lot and your editing skills that you have already can be greatly improved . But for beginners, it's quiet difficult to without even knowledge about editing. I know when you know how to use every editing tool, im sure it will be easy to do everything.

For one of my placement Month I went to a Graphic design company called….. I learned so much valuable information from the graphic designer. Fronm woking to a brief to speaking and presenting ideas. It was a valuable experience to be a part of.

My interest in Graphic design and Interactive Design started in my final years of school breaking down magazines covers and show why these colours were used and what style and format the magazine is. After this I went to NRC to start a Level 3 Interactive design course. I kept leraning and learning so many skills and ways to design I loved it .

I loved it so much that I wanted to do a foundation degree In the course too. I wanted to learn more and design more.

I am well versed in UI design and I alwasy am will to learn more and start to appeal to the latest design trends that have poped up through the years by focusing on waht the user experience is and how i can appel to the user to view the product.

I am also well versed in Illustrating , I loved to create and design simple and complex logos and very simplistic designs, I beleive less is more and I want that to be shown on my design. Creating branding is just as fun to me being to able to add your own spin to an existing design or a completely new one.

I always love to use photoshop in my spare time I do get asked to fix and repair different old pictures for a few clients. They usually have water damage or creasing to the photo and it may have some sentimental value to them. I enjoy showing the client the final product because I know this means alot more to them.

My skills in photographic and videoographic are pretty good. creating and editing videos for different clients.

In my spare time I continue to increase my knowledge in Graphic design by getting clients. By creating an instagram of my work im able to appeal and spresd my brand. I am very inspired by Stefan Sagmesiter by listening to his ted talks and he differnt design interviews.

​​Case Study 1​​ Coffee Cabin​​

First of all I wanted to focus on creating sketches for my design first before I started to look on Dribble and pinterest for Ideas. I also wanted to go Speak to the client first so that i had a good ideas of what the client would want. I wanted to sketch out different designs of coffee cups or log cabins. I wanted to create a simple logo of a log cabin. I sketched a cabin using different shapes. For the typeface of the logo name , I wanted to have a simple elegant san serif font to match the style of line art I created for the Logo. I really wanted to move away from coffee for the logo even though its a Coffee shop.

Like other well know brands like Starbucks and Costa do not use any icons or designs that would relate to coffee. Costa used to have A coffee bean in its logo but is now just a typeface now with the brand colours After this I wanted to go into illustrator and start to design a few different logos so I could get to fell whats right for the brand. the client wanted to use the same colours so it matched the brand. It was brown , blues and whites. I wanted to swap around with different colours to see which one matched the logo.

With the finalised Brand I then wanted to have the new brand logo in use with different merchandise and banners. I believe showing this to the client will show how the logo can be used. Its more important to create the mock ups for thre client. After the logo was finalised for the client I started to make a video for the client and break down the different aspects of the coffee shop and spread the word of the store so its name will be spread around social media.

​​Case Study 2​ ​Hilden​

For this brand I started by looking at different ideas for the brand. I looked at the different Beers, ales and APAs they made. the design of the bottles were very old fashion so i wanted to rebrand the company and change the logo so it is far more up to date than the original logo. I started to sketch out different type faces for the brand , I wanted a simple and professional serif font so that it can still represent the old fashion style of the brewery. for the different beer logos. for the first Beer it was North Coast Brew , I didn't want to make my simple vectors cartoonish because this wouldn't target younger than 18 because it is alcohol.

so for the label I wanted to match the area that it relates to . so blues to present the north coast. and greens to represent the country side . i wanted the have a light house in the label so that it present the coast and the same for the Belfast Porter , i wanted to represent the identity of the Belfast which is the titanic building this is one of the many icon buildings around Belfast so that is why i wanted to use it for the label, i wanted to keep the labels consistent through the brand of the bottles being released together as a group.

​Case Study 3​ ​Vincent Hotel​

I was tasked to create the brand logo for the hotel Vincent and create a brand guide line for the brand , so first of all i wanted to create brand guidelines for the hotel. I wanted to start and do some research and have a look at hotel brands so that i would a good idea about hotels. I wanted to make the hotel brand elegant to represent an more modern hotel. For the hotel logo i wanted to have a typeface for the brand logo because i don’t believe any icons for the logo. That is why i used a sans serif typeface to present the modern elegant style the hotel would represent.

for the colours i wanted to have elegant colour palette for the brand ti be golds, grey and brass. these colours show a professional look to the hotel brand. after this i felt the logo was missing something so i wanted to add a icon so that it adds to the logo of a diamond.

With the finalised Brand I then wanted to have the new brand logo in use with different merchandise and banners. I believe showing this to the client will show how the logo can be used.
