Yapping about the personalities of the two leaders of the GN bases (mostly on kai because amelia's fairly straightforward)
Spoiler Warning on Commodore Kai and Rear Admiral Amelia
Rear Admiral Amelia is really adamant about bringing peace, justice and security to the Empire the Grand Navy from her dialogue, e.g.
"I'll crush you like the criminal scum you are!"
"I'll never see the War Seas know peace..." -> Something something being brought up as a weapon (probably, having an extremely rare lost magic means that she might be scouted and was raised since she was young to be a mage), only ever knowing war, fighting for an ideal you're not even sure exists
"The War Seas would be better off without scum like you!" -> Kind of cliche but damn she really hates criminals
"I'll have to show you your place!" -> She knows she the GOAT
with the hatred towards criminals and the exclamation marks... She's the textbook GN officer with a capital G, with a strong sense of justice and the power to uphold it. You can feel her drive just from her words. Like her gravity magic, she's the ground of which everything stands on, the centre, the apex of calm of a storm; while everything spirals around her, ripped and torn apart, she remains as the GN's bastion.
But Commodore Kai...
His dialogue exudes indifference, and even exhaustion, even. No exclamations, just a lot of ellipses. It's like he's sighing as he watches you break in and try to barrel explosion cheese him... Again.
“You shouldn’t be here… Begone from my sight.” “What brings you here, criminal? Surely you aren’t foolish enough to invade a Navy base without good reason…”
“You managed to get past the guards, I see… I’ll have to kill you myself.” -> This line really brings out the 'duelist' aspect in him or even with a slight hint of sadism and entitlement that Asyn minibosses or even Order of Aesir members usually have in their dialogue but this is all just speculation
Combined with his extremely suspicious dialogue (Whether you interpret it as him having connections with the Order or Asyn or anything else)
“I wonder, did you know my secret, or was killing me a mere coincidence…” “It seems I’ve failed my duty… End me now, or they surely will.”
It's giving a guy who has seen too much. He's tired of dealing with the GN's shit. He's not getting any younger but he still can hold off his own, but he knows the enemies he's amassed in his youth are closing in on him. And he might not survive this time. He's tired and he's slipping out of his prime. It's giving he knows he won't have much time left.
I might have another yap session on what if Commodore Kai is an Asyn spy because he's just so interesting even if his characterization is literally cardboard. So yeah.
