Event Finals Day 1

All my thoughts for all finals

Men’s floor

God all the landings SUCKED.

I cannot believe Nikita scored in the 13s.    I don’t think the triple pike was worth it, but it was so damned cool to see. OB

Rayderley Zapata’s landings were so beautiful, especially from his third pass.  And he jumps SO HIGH.  It’s wild.

Okay, so as expected Yul’s landings were stunning except for one.  And then we had his flairs...sigh...it’s wild he still scored higher than Nigornyy though.

Artem Dolgapyat landing lock legged on one of his passes terrifies me, that cannot be good for him at all.  But he stuck his last landing!  I don’t understand why his score was so high though.  OB

Im Hansol: Oooooof big break on his pommel swing skills.  Damn.  And his landings were all over the place.  But his 3 and a half twist was beautiful!

Ryu Sunghyun two feet out of bounds.  But he 100% nailed his pommel skill thing!  Three and a half twist dismount though...that is WILD.

Ooo I like Xiao’s uniform!  He is so absolutely beautiful on floor, even though I miss his relatively easy double back layout which is so elegant.  I love that he doesn’t cross his feet in his twists too, so beautiful.  

Milad Karimi ooooof big out of bounds, but that was an impressive save to not sit that pass down.  

Tie breakers are stupid, if they have the same score they should both get the medal.  

Congratulations to Artem (first Israeli gold gymnastics medal!), Rayderley, and Xiao!!!!

Women’s Vault

Ngl, I’m bummed MyKayla is competing.  I was okay with it until her husband posting that bullshit on IG after Simone dropped and then her tweet, “This is for us Simone”.  Shut up, you know deep down you are THRILLED she dropped.  I hope she doesn’t medal.  “Gymnastics wants her back”.  No it doesn’t lmao.  It wants her racist ass gone.  Stop waving, literally no one cares.

Alexa Moreno, ew stop licking your fingers, that’s so gross.  I hadn’t missed athletes spitting on their hands before vault, but that’s still gross.  Her second vault was gorgeous!!!

Rebeca Andrade UUUUUUUUUUUGH OUT OF BOUNDS ON HER FIRST.  WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.  But thank god it was only her one foot.  Her second vault was so stunning, even with those two big hops on the landing.  YES SHE’S AHEAD OF SKINNER, YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!

Jade, you are still an incredible athlete who qualified for the Olympics 100000% by yourself and you’re amazing!!!  Don’t let this get your down at ALL!!!!  All those cameras need to get the fuck out of her face omg.

Yeo Seojeong, I love that she wears a sleeveless leo because we never see those anymore.  She had the best landing out of anyone so far!!!!  Yessss!!!!  OOOOOOOOOOOF THAT SECOND VAULT’S LANDING.  JESUS.  Impressive that she did all of it on one foot though.

Shallon Olsen, your leo is giving me life right now.  Your first vault wasn’t the greatest, but you stayed in bounds so that’s nice!!!  The second landing was SO CLOSE to being a stick!!!  But you still need to straighten your knees, girlfriend.

Okay Gelya, your first vault was so stunning!!!  Second vault was...well, you know you can do better.

Lilia Akhaimova, first vault was not great.  Why were you so much to the front of the horse??  

SO EXCITED FOR REBECA!  THE FIRST GOLD FOR BRAZIL IN GYMNASTICS!!!

Men’s Pommel

I still have absolutely no idea what makes a good routine and the difference between the different skills.  

Max Whitlock THAT WAS STUNNING!!!!!!  How does he look like he barely did literally anything when he finished??  I would be dying omg.

Alec Yoder: omg poor break at the very beginning.  But that’s okay because you’re still amazing and we love you.

Sun Wei, ooof baby it’s okay, you still have an Olympic medal and even if you didn’t, you are still an Olympian and amazing.  Plus, the rest of your routine was very nice!

David Belyavskiy, PLEASE get at least a bronze medal, get on the podium!!!  Also it’s shallow to say, but he looks so good in that uniform.  The white pants and the red and blue top.  Super sharp.  Also, a beautiful job!  I hope that’s definitely good enough for a medal!  OMG HIS WINK TO THE CAMERA.  I AM DEAD OH MY GOD I CANNOT, THANK YOU GYMNASTICS GODS hahahahahaha.  Awwww nooooo :((((

Lee Chih Kai it would be super cool if a person from TAIWAN won a medal.  Omg his flairs are absolutely beautiful, those log legs omg.  I wish he would point his toes though.  But that routine as a whole was absolutely magnificent!!!!

Rhys McClenaghan, ooooooooooffffff laying flat on the horse.  BUT being the first Irish gymnast making it to an Olympic gymnastics final is so good!!!  History making!!!  You should be so proud and hopefully we’ll see you in Paris!!!

Kohei Kameyama’s opening handstand was beautiful.

Women’s Uneven Bars

I want the medals to be Suni, Nina, and Gelya.  In that order.

Oh Suni girl, missing those connections.  That’s all right though, you still won the all around!!!  Plus, your execution was gorgeous!  Just a smaller start value!  And the fact that you were able to save it and salvage it, amazing.

Ooo Melanie, I like your leo!  Not the greatest, but you still got to compete in the finals at the Olympics!

Nina Derwael’s combination between top and lower bars is so absolutely stunning.  She’s just stunning in general.  As a ballet dancer, I would 100% love her toe point.

Oh Gelya, baby, you are amazing and wonderful and you’re already a gold medalist and a bronze medalist!!  Also, SMALL BUSINESS OWNER???  WHAT??  Designing and selling leos is so cool!!

Fan Yilin’s leotard is absolutely stunning, I’ll never get over it.  And your entire routine was beautiful and we just won’t talk about the landings because it doesn’t matter even though it does.

Lu Yufei, that was beautiful!!!!  Her routine makes me nervous because she stops on handstands so I was concerned she was either going to fall off or fall the wrong way.  

I want Suni to medal, but it would also be awesome if Elisabeth Seitz did too.
