I wanna talk about my cat named Bug

This is Bug. He was a stray cat living outside our place, and my partner fell in love with him. He was very funny, because the first time we pet him, he freaked out and seemed to have no idea what to do about this thing he liked. He'd headbutt and rub your hands, you'd pet him for a little and he would be really leaning into it, and then he'd suddenly pull away and bite you or claw you. You'd recoil, and he'd grab your hand and pull it back to his head and rub against it again.

We caught him and got him snipped and took him in. He adapted FAST to being an indoor cat, but had no manners. He only seemed to think about food, no matter how much we gave him. We eventually put him on a breakfast, lunch, and dinner schedule when someone was home all the time. He gets fed twice a day now and doesn't relentlessly hunt for food anymore.

He reacted the same way to pets as he did the first few times outside, but eventually learned how to communicate he wanted them. It took him a good year to learn that he didn't have to hurt us to make us stop or put him down, but his requests for attention went from once every few days to multiple times a day over a few months.

The first place he learned to ask for attention was, for some reason, when I was in the bathroom. At the time, it was the only time he would jump in my lap. He'd put his paws on my shoulder and balance on my thigh until I picked him up and held him and pet him. When I was ready to get up, I'd put him down, and he'd leave. Even when he didn't ask for me to hold him, he'd use my lap to jump into the sink above and just stare at me.

The next thing he learned, even before he learned not to bite me as hard, was that he could just crawl mostly onto my chest and flop and I would catch him from falling every time. If I don't pay attention to him fast enough for his liking, he STILL does this. This still makes me a little weepy when I think about it. What kind of trust did he have for me so early to know that he could fall *back first* and I would always catch him?

He used to try to bite me whenever I kissed him. Now, he kisses me. He comes up to me on his own and presses his mouth or forehead to my lips. When he's really excited to see me, he will do it repeatedly. (Guess what happens when I get really excited to see him.)

He has a name for me. When I see him, I will say "Bug!" and now, every time I do that, he meows in a way he does not at any other time. He meows in the exact pitch when he is looking for me, just louder and slightly more...questioning? Like when I call out his name searching for him.

It took over a year before I woke up one day to find him cuddled up against me while I napped. Normally, if I was sleeping, he wouldn't come near me. He still won't, most of the time, but sometimes I wake up from a nap now and he'll be there.

He's always waiting at the door when I get home from work. His favorite way to be held is cradled like a baby. He does not understand why I won't let him hump blankets (I will remind you that literally the first thing we did upon adopting this year old cat was neuter him) and meows sadly at me when I make him stop. His favorite toy is a mouse on a string that hangs from a door. I sing little songs at him because it's easy to rhyme his name. He likes to lay directly on my feet when I'm trying to cook and tries to bite me when I try to move. He follows me everywhere I go all day. His favorite thing in the world is cracked window (but a window close to a tree is a close second). He used to jump and bolt at every noise or unexpected touch, and now the most he does is twitch or look towards the disturbance.

I've loved watching him grow from desperate for love but not understanding it into a creature so full of that and joy and comfort. I've never understood people who say that cats are cold or that they don't love you. Look at this.

If you'd seen the same journey that led to this picture, you'd know for yourself just how much love these guys have packed in their tiny little bodies.

I hope that if you're reading this and you have a cat, that you think about all the little ways they show you they love you and give them a kiss for me. If you don't have a cat and you want a cat, I hope that someday you get to see a cat love you in their own specific ways and you get to gush to everyone about how great they are.

trick or treat!

summary: you and jack take your 2 year old to trick or treat but she gets more candy then you thought and you and jack get into an argument about if you need to take some away or not.

“you really to go baby?” your 2 year old daughter excitedly shook her head yes “ok baby how about you go get daddy and tell him to come on so we can go?” “ok mommy!”

sarija ran to the living room where she knew jack was to find him sitting on the sofa putting on his 550’s “daddy hurry!!” “mama wait please daddy has a headache” “oh no..” you daughter ran back to you “mommy daddy has headache? he ok?” “yes baby i’ll go check on him you wanna come?” she shook her head no while you walked over to jack.

“you ok baby?” “my fucking head hurts” “do you still want to go trick or treating with us?” “yea of course” “ok i’ll go get you some pain medicine stay put.”

you came back to jack talking to sarija while she was giggling “im back, now lets hurry this up so we can go hhm?” “yes mommy!!” jack took the medicine and sarija told jack yo bed down so she could kiss his head “feel better??” “yes princess thank you! you kisses always make me and mommy feel so much better!”

eventually you all had left the house and were on your way to your first house “now what do you say when you get the candy?” “thank you!” you gave your daughter a high five “good girl” at the first house jack went up to the door with her while you stated back at the driveway.

“trick or treat!!” “hi missy! what are you?!” “minnie mouse!” sarija put her hand over her mouth and giggled “ok well i have something extra special for you!” the house owner gave her a huge minnie mouse lollipop “thank you!” “of course!” jack and sarija started walking back to you.

“show mommy what you got princess!” “i not princess today! i minnie!” “ok minnie, show mommy what you got!” you daughter took out the huge lollipop and showed it to you “thats awesome! but baby you need to apologize to daddy, you yelled at him that could hurt his feelings baby, right?” “yes.. im sorry daddy” “thats ok bug.”

you were headed to the 8th house of the night, it was 9:30 and your feet were starting to hurt being as though your costume needed you to wear high heels.

“jack i think im gonna head home, you ok by yourself?” “yea mamas” “ok baby, come home when its to much candy, no going over the limit, im serious” “i got you baby”

you had made it back home and ended up playing some music while cleaning the kitchen, your bedroom, and sarija’s room, you took out sarija’s pajamas and placed them on top of her dresser while you headed back to your room to take a quick 10 minute shower thinking jack should be on his way back with half a bag full of candy.

after 45 minutes of you waiting jack walked through the door with a full bucket of candy and a smaller bag of candy.

“uhm thats way over her limit jack!” “baby its fineee, it’s halloween!” “yea mhm, we’re going to talk later” “fuck!” “JACKMAN!” “DADDY!” “WHAT??” “you said bad word!” “sorry princess, wont happen again!”

you started bringing your daughter to the bathroom and putting her into the bathtub and cleaning her off.

by the time you were done she was good and tired.

you walked out of the room to find jack sitting on the sofa scrolling on his phone.

“jackman bedroom now” you said walking past him, you head jack huff and get up.

“why would you let het get that much candy?” “baby its halloween, its not like were giving it to her all in one day.. its going to take her like 5 months to eat all that” “dont care, your missing my fucking point” “whats your point?” “if i were out there with yall the whole time you would have stopped halfway, you disrespected my wishes” “baby, j really dont see this as a big deal” “its not a big deal but j.. you just went against everything i made rules about, if you keep this up shes going to think whatever i say doesn’t matter, like what her monma says doesn’t matter because daddy said something else, if you would have called me and just simply asked me if you could stay out longer and get more candy i wouldn’t mind, yall had daddy daughter time but stop disrespecting me, understand?” “understand.”

FOUR YEARS LATER

You closed your eyes and sighed, waiting.  

“My first guest is in the up and coming film ‘See You Around’, a thriller that lives up to the book in every way, which comes out Friday.  Please welcome, Y/N L/N!”  Stephen Colbert announced.  

The audience erupted and you walked out.  You waved at the audience and walked to Stephen’s desk.  You gave him a hug and an air kiss to the cheek before sitting down.

“Hi, Stephen,” you gave him a dazzling smile.  

“Hi, Y/N, always lovely to have you here,” Stephen gave you a smile back.  “How have you been since you were last here?”

“Great! Great! Working and mommy life is always hard to balance, but I’ve got the best people around me in both aspects, so it makes it a little easier for me.”

“Speaking of mommy life,” Stephen reached for something under his desk and held up a picture printed off your Instagram.  It was of your daughter, Ben, and you, all three of you smiling up at the camera. You each had a hand on her arm. “This picture.  Isn’t she the cutest?”  

The audience ‘Aww’ed like they usually did when Eliza was brought up.  You beamed at the picture and then them.  

“Now where was this taken? Her name is Eliza, right?”

“Yes! That was taken at Eliza’s third birthday party here in New York a few months ago.  She’s definitely got her daddy’s eyes, huh?” Your smile softened.

“And so the co-parenting with your ex-husband is going well?”

“Yes, you know it’s easy…well, easy isn’t the right word at all.  Being a parent is always difficult, you know how it is!” You swatted at Stephen with a chuckle.  Stephen gave an exaggerated nod to one of the cameras, and the audience laughed.  “But, with Eliza not being in school yet, she spends six months with me here in the states and then six months with Ben in England. So that makes things easier on us.  We just want what’s best for her, ya know?  And having a great relationship with her family here and her family there is important.”

“Of course, and it seems like you two are doing a great job.”

“Thank you, she is just the sweetest little thing.  We love her so much.”  

“As you should, as you should.  Now, this film!”  

The rest of the interview focused on your film coming out. Stephen had told you he’d read the book and seen an advanced screening and he had loved it.  That made you feel good.  You loved your work, but sometimes you would put your heart and soul into a project and nobody liked it.  Or saw it.

You spoke about your co-stars, how it was having the author of the book so involved in the process, and how the director had made the atmosphere light and easy outside of actual filming since you were dealing with such difficult material.  

“So do you have any other things on your horizons?” Stephen asked after you explained a clip from the film, signaling the near close of the interview.  

“No, not right now. I’m hoping to take Eliza on a vacation before I get too busy again.”  

“Well that sounds great, I’m sure you two ladies would enjoy just some mommy/daughter time.  Y/N, thank you so much for joining me tonight,” Stephen smiled, shook your hand, and then looked at one the cameras.  “’See You Around’ hits theaters this Friday!  We’ll be right back!”  

“I really did enjoy the film,” Stephen said to you, the audience applause drowning out your conversation.  

“Thank you so much, Stephen. We worked so hard on it.”

“I can tell!”  

“Y/N,” one of assistants came up to you with your phone.  It was a FaceTime with Ben.  “I’m sorry, this is the third time they called in the last few minutes so I think it’s important.”    

You quickly answered and saw Eliza’s face fill up your screen.  

“Mummy!”  

You grinned wide.  It was always funny when she was staying with Ben because she tended to pickup some of his pronunciations and words.  

“Hi, Lovebug!”  

“Who’s dat?” Eliza pointed behind you.  

You moved so that Stephen was more in frame.  He looked a little nervous, but Eliza gave him a huge smile.  

“This is my friend Stephen, we just talked about Mommy’s movie, but I have to go because he’s going to talk to somebody else now.  Can you say goodbye?”  

“Bye, Mr. Stepen!”    

“Bye, Eliza!” He waved and you gave him a quick hug before you walked back to your dressing room.  

“Are you having fun with Daddy?”  

“Yeah! He and Unkie Gil took me to da park!”  

“Oh did they?  Did you go on the swings?”

Eliza nodded enthusiastically.  

“Unkie Gil pushed me high! And den Daddy took me on ALL da slides!”  

“Whoa! All of them?”

“Yeah! And den we went to da…um…Daddy?”  Eliza looked up as if Ben was holding the phone for her.  

You heard Ben just off the camera.  

“We went to the deli and had lunch and then we saw Gran for dinner.”

You hated the way his voice still made your heart beat a little erratically.  That stupid deep voice shouldn’t still make you feel like that.  

“Yeah! And den Daddy gave me a baf and now it’s almost bedtime, but I wanted to talk to you!”  

“Aw, baby, Mommy misses you.”  

“I miss you too! Daddy says I can see you soon!”  

“That’s right! Mommy’s going to be coming to see you at Daddy’s soon!”  

Your movie was going to do a premiere in London in about two weeks.  Everything was actually going to work.  You and Ben had agreed it would just be easier for you to stay in his guestroom.  It had taken a long time discussing the arrangements, but you both decided, for Eliza, it would be easier if you stayed with Ben while you were there.  

“Yay! And you can meet Frankie!  I love her, Mummy!”  

Your heart thudded painfully.  Who was Frankie?  The new nanny?  You couldn’t remember the name of the London nanny for the life of you and you chastised yourself for not remembering the name of the woman taking care of your child when Ben had to work.  A new friend of hers from the park?  Or…did Ben have a girlfriend?  No, there was no way.  You two had made a deal that the other had to at least know about a new significant other before Eliza could meet them.      

You were going to ask about her, but Eliza switched gears so fast, it was hard to get her back to one topic after she already blew past one.  

Eliza was telling you about a bug that she had found on one of the slides when she yawned loudly.  

“Alright, Birdie, let’s get you to bed,” Ben appeared, picking Eliza up and they both looked at you through the screen and your breath caught for a moment.  It was striking how much Eliza looked like him when they were right next to each other like that.  “Tell Mummy goodnight.”  

“Night, Mummy! Love you!”

“I love you too, Liza. I’ll call you tomorrow, alright?”

Eliza laid her head down on Ben’s shoulder and nodded.  

“Bye, Y/N,” Ben gave you a smile and you did your best to return it.  Then they were gone.  

You set your phone down and looked at yourself in the mirror.  The image of Ben holding a sleepy Eliza was something that you couldn’t shake.

It had been nearly four years since your divorce, but you missed him every day.  

The two of you were supposed to be doing this together.  You should’ve come off set and had Eliza run into your arms, picking her up and giving Ben a kiss.  Him telling you that you did a great job, or giving you crap for talking about how handsome and talented your co-star had been.  

But no, you both had screwed that up.  Now, instead of coming off the interview to your husband and daughter, you were alone in your dressing room.  Having to pretend you were just happy with Facetime.  

Your phone started ringing again and you looked at it.  It was your co-star, Jackson Moore.  You answered.

“Hey, Jack,” you hoped your voice didn’t betray any of your disappointment that it wasn’t Ben.  

“Hey, Y/N, how was the Colbert taping?”  

“Great! Gave you all the compliments I could.  Not sure everybody bought them though.”  

Jack laughed.  You liked his laugh.  

“Some of us are going to 54 Below for some drinks, want to come?”  

“Oh hell yeah!  Who’s preforming?”  

Jackson said some name that you didn’t know, but it didn’t matter.  You needed a drink.

“There she is!” Jackson waved you down when you walked into the bar.  You grinned at the group of your coworkers.  

“Hi, everybody!”  You waved around the table.  There were five people that you had worked with.  Jackson gave you a shy smile and pushed a drink towards you.  It looked like your favorite.  

“Thanks, Jack,” you gave him a kiss on the cheek.  

You saw him look embarrassed.  The two of you had been flirty through filming.  It was easy to blame it on the proximity and that you were playing each other’s love interests.  You liked Jackson, but you just weren’t looking for something.  You just wanted to focus on Eliza and your work (and maybe still being in love with your ex-husband didn’t help things).  

You enjoyed yourself. Maybe a little too much.  You also couldn’t help but hear Eliza saying the name “Frankie” over and over.  

You pulled your phone out of your purse and stared at it, trying to decide if it was a bad idea or not.

“Shots!” Molly, one of the other actresses brought over shot glasses for all of you.  You all groaned.

“No! Molly we’ve got more interviews tomorrow morning!” Jackson cried, but Molly ignored him, passing out the shots.  

You all brought them together in a cheer and took the shot.  That made up your mind.  

You unlocked your phone and sent off a quick text.  

Y/N: Who’s Frankie?

You put your phone face up on the table so that you could read it as soon as Ben replied.  You pretended to be interested in something that Ginger, the woman that played your best friend in the film, was talking about when your phone lit up.  

BEN: Don’t get mad…

You hated when Ben did that. There weren’t even those gray dots that showed that he was typing.  Your inhibitions were lowered, and you almost sent a follow up when a picture came through.

There was a gorgeous woman holding a brand-new looking puppy out to Eliza.  Eliza was grinning at the puppy, one hand extended to pet the dog’s ears.

Your heart sunk.  Just like you thought.  Ben had a new girlfriend.  Why did you care?  You and Ben hadn’t been together for four years! You had no more claim to him!

BEN: I swear I was going to run it by you 1st but Gwil accidently mentioned her and Eliza was so excited to meet her. I hope that’s OK.

You put your phone down and wiped a tear out of your eye.  

“What’s the matter, Y/N?” Jackson asked you.  

You glanced at him. He was handsome.  His dark straight hair and dark eyes were so different from Ben.  You also forgot that he had a southern accent, it coming out after some alcohol.  

“I um…” you gave a watery chuckle.  “Nothing, just miss Eliza.  Her dad sent me a picture of her.”  

“Can I see?”  

You pulled the picture up again and he cooed at the screen.  You looked over Jackson’s face.  He was good looking.  And he was sweet.  He’d met Eliza and was adorable with her.  Why couldn’t you give him a chance?  If Ben had a new girlfriend, why couldn’t you have a boyfriend?  You’d basically been single since the divorce.  Ben pretty much had been too, now that you thought about it.  

Until now.  

“Hey,” you whispered in Jackson’s ear.  

He looked at you, realizing how close the two of you were sitting.  He met your eyes and you saw them widen for a moment.  

“Do you wanna get out of here?”  

Jackson swallowed and nodded.  

You sent another text to Ben.

kotac is his full name i never bothered to give him a last name. idk it just sounded cool

FARMER idk nothing special. he works. on a farm

3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?

YEAH his parents are real good to him and he’s very close with them and his family. his fave memories are doing stuff together as a family just out and around like going berry picking. idk about bad memories maybe one time he was attacked by an angry farm animal as a kid but that’s all i can think of

VERY GOOD he still has both parents and no real bad memories.

he graduated high school and then kind of just stopped doing school. he enjoyed science but hated math and english

yeah! he’s good at making friends and he keeps in contact with a few.

yes and yes bc he works on a farm and has animals on said farm

YES totally 100% animals love him it’s almost weird how much animals like him

he is okay with children but he wont actively seek them out or anything. he’d probably be a good parent but he’s not interested in kids rn. would have to adopt anyways

he eats vegetables a lot bc he’s part rabbit but he also eats a lot of meat bc of being part cat as well. he’s not really allergic to anything and loves to cook

idk he’s not picky so it’s kind of hard to find something he actually hates

he doesn’t eat out at restaurants very often but he does have a few memories of going out for special occasions with his family

YES YES he’s very good at it and loves it. others love it too

he likes to read big novels it doesn’t really matter the genre he probably reads a lot of books about animals too. he loves country music and doesn’t watch T.V. very often; same w/ movies. doesn’t really play video games either.

yeah he likes musicals and music in general. he probably sings along to his favorite songs.

he is very paitent and rarely ever loses his temper.

he probably has some extreme weird insults, i imagine he uses a lot of metaphors and whatever, immmmmmmm listening to music and it’s distracting me but i dont feel like pausing it and i cant think of the right word for it. idioms?? maybe. anyways he’ll tell someone to their face if he has a problem with them but he rarely ever does that since he is very tolerable.

he’s good with memory for things about his farm and he’s good at remember faces but he’s not so good when it comes to names.

he goes to be late and gets up really early but for some reason it doesn’t bother him. he sleeps on his bed and its some weird mix of hard and soft. it’s not awful but most might find it uncomfortable.

he’s got a good sense of humor and will joke around a lot with his farmhands. not sure what exactly his sense of humor qualifies as

he likes to hum and occasionally sing. he gets very smiley when he’s happy and excited

probably losing animals on his farm. like a fox gets one of his chickens or something and he’s probably heartbroken but also that fox is like his #1 enemy now so he’s angry at the same time. i guess THATS one way to make him mad. probably will cry openly but not often.

he is afraid of losing people and animals he loves but that’s probably normal. he doesn’t really have any other fears. not even bugs or anything. he’ll straight up pick up a spider and go run around in the dark and everything. he’s hard to scare.

he’s probably protective

yeah often, but it’s not like a gym work out. it’s working on the farm for hours and hours on end. keeps u in shape when u gotta take care of a million things in one day, every day

ya he will drink and he’s probably a very giggly and open drunk like he’ll talk more and get more cuddly. he’s very grumbly and sleepy when he’s hungover. he will absolutely take care of people who are hungover though.

very country. jeans and ripped clothes and overalls and white t-shirts and all that jazz. probably just wears boxers to bed. he is all hair he is a furry. his the  white hair on his head is pretty unruly most of the time.

muscular, strong, kind of a big build. he’s probably like idk 5′10″ or something. he likes his body but at the same time he does not really care at all
