WARNING: Pharmercy / Gency / OVW in general tbh?? rant ahead

Honestly I didn’t wanna get involved but seeing all this Gency/Pharmercy stuff is getting me really riled up and angry… I have to say I agree 100% with like everything @ Farronheit is saying, and so many other shippers.

But like… In a way what I feel is the worst is the ‘queerbaiting’… like, giving us the bare minimum, or promising that, and then suddenly taking it away… for example, interactions with Pharah and Mercy in game. And then supposedly there is a “"bug”“ removing those from in game but the voice line director himself is some sort of Genji self-insert who added in purely Gency lines. Or another example, Clexa in The 100 (RIP).

“Please keep your Mercy x Reader fanfics to yourself” basically.

Jeff already said there was going to be no Valentine’s Day event, so why did Chu decide ‘let’s put in these specific voice lines for these two characters but nobody else’. It seems really suspicious and irritating, not gonna lie. Even if they’re platonic voice lines (which… they really aren’t, mainly Genji seems to have that one-sidedness to it).

Like, there could have been a cute Tracer voice line mentioning her girlfriend because that’s actually canon. Or Torbjorn with his wife, because that’s canon too. Or, hell, even family based chocolate exchanges between Ana and Pharah. And Reinhardt definitely seems like the type of guy who just gives out chocolate to everyone. But why these two specific characters out of all the heroes? Instead we get 5 new Genji focused voicelines and interactions.

But honestly, two posts to basically give my opinion on why I find the Gency ship hurtful as well.

Technically Mercy is the doctor for all of them, but with Genji she had to dive deeper into that than she would’ve with pretty much all the other heroes. A limb here or there with other heroes, but basically a full body recovery with him. She saved his life, yes, but she is a doctor. It’s what she does. If it happened to somebody like Torbjorn or Soldier she would do the same thing. Honestly they both have so much potential with their own lore but it’s gotten to the point where “Mercy saved Genji” and “Genji is like an annoying puppy”. He really does have a case of the Florence Nightinggale effect and that is another reason why I dislike Gency. The main one really.

I wanna know why Mercy joined Overwatch… who inspired her? Why did she specifically become a doctor? Did OVW save her family? Did she witness somebody die and then decide, 'hey I want to help as many people as I can so this doesn’t happen again’?

I wanna know why Genji and Hanzo fought with each other. They both obviously had conflicting views about something, but what? And why? Perhaps one child was favored more than the other? Or the other had a different set of morals? Obviously it was so bad that Hanzo literally 'killed’ him.

God, this is all over the place but I’m so angry and tired and I just need to release all of this.
