#im glad we got the translations after all these years

Just finished reading the smt 4 dengeki comic anthology fully translated by Gouma-Den Scanlations and I gotta say it's a fun read! The characters may act ooc at times but since this is a non canon anthology I didn't really mind. I liked watching the gang say or do a bunch of wacky shit that you'd never see in the og game like Flynn has nothing going on in his head for most of these chapters and I honestly dig it. This man tries to eat tights with mayo at one point and damn is it fun to read that part. There are also some serious and wholesome chapters but most of the time it's comedic. If you want more content of this game and don't mind the more lighthearted tone of this anthology then I recommend you check it out.

P5V12P8 (final) spoilers and thoughts

welp, here we are for the last time, a touching ending to a series that i hold dear to my heart. it’s a little bittersweet to be done with the main series, but the journey was amazing nonetheless.

rozemyne’s inauguration ceremony was delightful and i’m glad she didn’t let the pressure get to her. i know that the lower ranked nobles didn’t have a good grasp of all the events that had transpired that had lead to her being inaugurated, but im still not sure where they got the gall to heckle her. like, girlie literally got possessed by a goddess and saved the country and the nobles are like “hmm but is that really anything worthwhile?”…. i’m glad rozemyne shut them up lol

the real highlight of the part was the epilogue, though. after 3 long parts myne was finally able to return home to her family! there’s so many wonderful things about this chapter that i struggle to pick what to write down, but i think one of the highlights for me was ferdinand and gunther and how he was accepted into their commoner family. after so many years of torment by his true family, he’s finally found a place where he can be at ease. also ferdinand’s line about rozemyne being all of his goddesses had me absolutely fangirling lol

though i do feel like the last book felt a little rushed in wrapping things up, i do believe this was the perfect ending for the series. granted, with a series this long you could probably go on for a couple of books just tying up loose ends (not that i think Kazuki left a lot of those).

it’s definitely going to be painful not having Bookworm to read each week, as the series has honestly gotten me through some of the hardest times in my life, and would always give me something to look forward to for a new week, but all good things must come to an end, as they say. i’ll just have to look forward to Hannelore 5th Year and the side story collections coming out!

also can’t forget to thank Kazuki for writing such an amazing story, and Quof for being such a fantastic translator.

he's gone.

he had a good day. a really good day. the first one all week. he ate a ton of zelos's food (forbidden), had half a pat of butter at least (an indulgence), one whole tube of milky snack and some of a second tube (thoroughly decadent), and about twelve pure chicken dog treats (baffling to the vet). he felt well enough to cuddle this morning and spent much of the morning curled up with me, and did some walking and some jumping and some pleased nose in the air conditioning. he rubbed a few times, including against larsa. we went on two big walks, even if he got really tired after both of them (it being hot didnt help).

we were able to see a local vet and a friend went with us to help translate. she took this photo and was a godsend, one of the kindest and most wonderful people ive ever been lucky enough to know. they got us in after only a modicum of waiting, discussed other options, and were very kind and sweet to him. they were impressed how long he'd lasted with his cancer (three years in remission! three! that's insane!) and confused but delighted by his desire for dog treats.

he went easy and right when he was ready. it was his time. he was the best and most wonderful cat i think i've ever been lucky enough to own. im so glad he got love from people on the internet for so many years, and to anyone who helped pay for his ending, even more thanks. we've been able to afford everything.

Well. I finally got Sabo’s story. Him retrieving his memories by seeing the news that Ace died… I knew it was coming yet it broke my heart. The horror and the despair on his face.

And his little vision of Luffy and Ace that he received on the boat, right before getting the news, must have been at the moment Ace died.

Watching Sabo’s timeline progress through the past was difficult because it felt like a countdown to Ace’s death with the way they kept flashing back and forth between them. 12 years ago Ace tells Luffy he’ll never die. 5 years ago Ace leaves. 2 years ago Luffy leaves. And then, Ace dies. It was like watching the little children of 10 and 7 not know that one of them only had 10 years left, and the other 2 would have to go on without him.

Im glad Zoro remembered his words were the same as Ace’s, though I wish he’d told Sabo that just so we could see some more good angst.

The moment Sabo ended Jesus Burgess was so satisfying and so brutal. The anime makes it seems like Burgess melted away, but I know they’ll probably bring him back 🙄

Ace asked them not to tell his brother. Obviously he didn’t want Luffy to find out and come after him, but was there more to that?

In the translation I’m watching Sabo said “I don’t really care, but Ace won’t forgive you” while throwing fire fist, which is absolutely based.

I know another translation says “I won’t care anymore (as in regret) because I know Ace would never forgive me if I did.”

Idk which one is more accurate. I personally like the first one because it is like Ace’s will

I’m also not going to get over the fact that Ace asked them not to tell Luffy about his capture and pending execution.

As soon as Ace loss that fight, he really accepted that he should die, and he didn’t want his little brother to suffer.

Most protag characters get a rematch or several when they lose a fight. Ace only got to lose once and it all ended for him. So I hope Sabo is the one who kills Blackbeard. It would be like Ace coming back for a rematch and winning the fight.

You are currently wearing a blindfold, listening to your favorite music loudly through headphones in the passenger seat of Ramos' car as he planned a surprise for your two-year anniversary. Even though your anxiousness is through the roof, you manage to keep it under control because you trust your boyfriend. You couldn't believe you agreed to this in the first place.

“Sergio Ramos Garcia te juro que si intentas matarme te mato primero

( I swear if you are trying to kill me I will kill you first),” you threaten while your favorite song continues to blare in your ears, of course, not expecting a response. Even though it had only been 20 minutes, it felt like an eternity before the car came to a complete stop. "Alright cariño (sweetheart), we are finally here," he says after removing the headphones from your ears. A shaky breath escapes from your mouth as your heartbeat becomes extremely rapid. Ramos notices how anxious you are and puts his palm on top of yours. " I am going to get out of the car so I can help you exit, then I will take off your blindfold,” he explains to you in hope it will ease your anxiety, “Sólo unos segundos más princesa (Just a few more seconds princess) .” You nod your head as you wait patiently in your seat. Ramos follows through on his word by exiting the vehicle and hurriedly approaching you to unlock the door. “Estoy aquí mi amor” (I'm right here my love).” He unbuckles your seat belt and assists you in getting out of the car. You are confused by the shouting that you can hear. “Okay, you can now remove them.” Sergio says as you swiftly pull the blindfold up to your forehead. Your eyes are widening as you take in the scene in front of you. You've always told Ramos that one of your lifelong dreams is to attend a carnival, and here you are, in front of one. "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!" you squeal as you jump into his arms. He smiles while returning the hug. You ask him, seeing his attire, "Are you sure your shades and cap will conceal your identity well?” He is dressed simply, in a black Nike tracksuit, a cap, and sunglasses. It was the ideal temperature to comfortably wear a hoodie or a shirt, depending on your preference.

You don't mind his secret attire as you both decided long ago to keep your relationship a secret—as long as you are able of doing so. He takes your hand saying, "Don't worry about me right now; focus on the stuffed animal you want me to win for you.” He pokes your nose causing you to smile, “Let's go now that we've got some rides to check out.”

You didn't have to stand in long lines for tickets because Ramos had already purchased them. Furthermore, Ramos naturally purchased a quick pass for you two as well, ensuring that you did not stand in any lines at all. You are currently overcome with excitement and unsure of what to do as you stand in the Carnival. You start making suggestions as you scan the area,  “Woah look how big that teddy bear is- I definitely want that one! Wait no, we should probably wait for prizes and go on rides instead. Should we go on the big ride first? Or go on the teacups first?” 

You keep babbling, pointing at each thing you are describing as you glance around. Serigo is still staring at you while grinning warmly. He isn't listening to what you're saying because he is too busy swooning over how lovely you are. “Okay so what do you think?” You ask, tilting your head to face him. He's already looking at you, and even though you couldn't see his eyes, you could tell they were peering intently into yours, making you blush and look away fast. “Eres molesto, ¿lo sabías?(You are annoying, you know that?)” Ramos laughs, wrapping his arm around your neck, “Pero aún me quieres (You still love me though.)” He looks down at you and leans in for a small kiss. As you kiss him back, you smile against his lips. "Let's start with the teacups!" You say enthusiastically, taking his arm off your shoulder and interposing your fingers on his as you want to hold his hand instead. You then pull him over to the teacup ride. Shortly after arriving, you two are able to get on. You choose the tea cup you want and enter in together; he sits across from you as a flat wheel is in between you two. “Wait, so how exactly does this ride go?” He asks. "Basically, we turn this wheel and it makes the tea cup move around in a circle in one location," you explain, your smile never leaving your face. “But, as soon as the ride is turned on by the worker, the teacup's base spins in an enormous circle as we also move it. I'm not sure if I expressed that clearly enough," you laugh.

He smiles, “No no I think I get it.” He says, taking hold of the wheel and turning it. You try to assist him by putting your hands on the horizontally positioned wheel as well. You both feel as though you are both spinning in a circle together as the tea cup starts to swirl in circles. He chuckles as the two of you circle the same area. The ride operator starts the ride, and you two spin slowly on the larger turntable-like floor until the operator progressively increases the power. The next thing you know, you're screaming as you slam into Ramos' shoulder after sliding all the way towards him. He laughs as you try to return to your seat, but you keep slamming back into him since the force is too great for you to move. But, because he was seated on the edge, he was unable to squeeze you even though it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to grasp onto the wheel. Only you are able to crush him. At that very moment, only the two of you can be heard, with the air surrounding you filled with laughter and love. A few moments later, when the ride starts to slow down, you can move yourself back around the wheel to your previous position. Waiting for the cup to completely stop moving, you start to straighten your hair a little. "Wasn't that so much fun?" you exclaim while laughing. Ramos nods his head while studying your features, his smile never leaving his face. He couldn’t help but to think about how he genuinely loves you with all of his heart. You are so dear to him, and he hopes times like these could endure forever. The tea cup door unlocks when the carriage comes to a complete halt, allowing you two to get out. As soon as you both exit, you take his hand. "Next, roller coasters!" When you drag Ramos to the following ride, you yell.

He didn't object at all that you took him everywhere you wanted to go for the majority of the evening. "Whatever makes the princess happy," he would always respond. You two rode every roller coaster and even went back on the teacup rides. That was now Sergio's favorite ride, primarily because he continued attempting to fight the wind and stay seated, but he failed miserably, and this time you were the one getting crushed. You two are currently enjoying the sunset while riding the Ferris wheel. Cliche? Yes. But are you still ecstatic? Without a doubt. Ramos is sitting next to you, and you are gazing at the sunset while resting your head on his shoulder. The sky was tinted warm orange by the sun's slanting beams as it set. “Thank you for today, my love.” You say as you  tilt your head to see Ramos smile at you. “You don't need to thank me for something you very much deserve. I love seeing you happy, and I am glad that I was able to fulfill one of your long term goals.” He gives you another kiss. “Now sit across from me so I can take a picture of your beautiful self.” You grin as you carefully cross to the opposite side and strike a few poses for the camera. You make a kissy face in the second photo after making a smile in the first. “Come sit beside me so we can have a few together too,” you say. He then stands and moves over to your side. The sunset behind you seems ethereal as he raises his phone so you two may take a selfie. As he takes the first photo, you kiss him, and then you both smile for the second one. You choose to strike a "silly" pose for the third shot by sticking out your tongue and creating the appearance of "bunny ears" behind his head with two fingers. As the photo is being shot, he turns his head and pushes his tongue out so that it touches yours, making you giggle. "Eres tan desagradable! (You are so nasty!)," you say jokingly while laughing. He says, "Sólo para ti (Just for you)," and you sarcastically roll your eyes. The ferris wheel starts to spin as you both glance down at his phone as he goes through the pictures. "Wait, these are really cute." “Of course they did, I took them.” “Oh hush.”

As the night draws to a close, the only thing left for him to do is to win you a stuffed animal. Not just any animal, the strawberry cow you mentioned pointing at earlier as you both entered the Carnival. Ramos smirks, seeing that the game required the softball to be placed into a tilted wooden bucket, saying, "This game is too easy.” While just one ball needs to be in to win the huge prize, Ramos pays $5 for three attempts. He teasingly says, "This one's for you," as he tosses the ball underhanded, expecting it to drop perfectly in the bucket. But, he misjudges the difficulty of the game because the ball has too much height, causing it to bounce out of the barrel rather than remain inside. Seeing the failure, you laugh. "Babe, I was joking; that wasn't for you. This is," he says, throwing again with a different motion, and the ball again flies out. You nod and smile, simply loving the entertainment you're watching right now. "You're doing great, honey!" He smiles at you before returning his attention to the game so he can try to win with his final ball. But he again misses. After spending $15 and making 9 unsuccessful efforts, you decide to try it yourself because you can tell he's becoming frustrated. Of course he pays for it and encourages you to do it. You forcefully underhand your first ball, which causes it to bounce away. "Good try cutie you can do it!," he cheers you on. While you consider how to execute the ideal toss, you softly bite your bottom lip and examine the bucket. You throw the ball into the bucket again, not believing it will stay there, but to your amazement, it does! As the worker asks which prize you'd want, you happily jump up, your smile spreading, and you point to the strawberry cow. "Excellent Job, babe! " Ramos exclaims as he raises his hand to give you a high five, “I am totally not jealous of you right now.”.  As the employee brings you the large strawberry cow—the bear being larger than half of you—he laughs at the sight. You give the cow a joyful hug and start spinning around like you're dancing with it. But when you see Ramos pouting, you instantly stop and ask him what's wrong.

“Do you still love me even though I couldn't win you the stuffed animal?” 

"Of course I do, buttttt-”, he smiles as you go on, “I feel really sleepy and my feet hurt… If you carry me back to the car, I will love you even more.”  "Alright, then come here," Ramos responds.As the two of you proceed to a bench nearby, he takes the cow from you. Standing on the bench, you leap onto his back and encircle him with your arms and legs. He holds the cow against his side and arm so that he can support your legs. As he starts to leave the park, you kiss his cheek.

“Today was so much for today, it was definitely the best day ever.”

"Better than the day I asked you to be officially mine?" Ramos jokes.

“Today is literally the day you asked me out two years ago.” You laugh, shaking your head.“Hmmmmm….Well I guess you're sort of right.” You giggle, shaking your head and resting your head on his shoulder, your cheek against his shoulder. “Happy Anniversary handsome.” “Happy Anniversary to you too, mi corazón( my heart ).”

fic commentary/notes for the year you thought you were dying.

trying this thing where i do fic commentaries here instead of on dreamwidth since most of my recent dw posts will be private now.

influences:

there was this BL titled "my 40-year-old prostitute" in english or something like that that a mutual from twt recommended. look, it was good. im so fucking serious. the yaoi art was beautiful and sexy and it started out so well with compelling characters. but the translators ceased uploading translations by just chapter 2 in 2020 on [redacted] site. which effectively meant the premise never left me for months and i was so sad.

joke's on me tho all of this really became serious after i wrote tumblr ficlets of 1418 hooker au in response to some fun ask prompts in the summer, which are in my fic tag somewhere.

the essay "her thighs" is about lesbian power play and so influential to me. i think dorothy allison is a very powerful writer and i love her poetry.

i kept this in mind too while i was writing manuela's short backstory.

the process:

i wanted crazy thangs with the structure. i wanted most of the sexual intimacy to be revealed much later to the reader, after we go through mostly the companionship aspect of the service -- which i realise now is not crazy but a boring approach and would really change the story so i didnt do it.

sex pollen fic done this way is my fave tho. helenish wrote this sga fic called This Gun for Hire with sex amnesia in it where everyone is in denial in the aftermath about the kind of sex that was repeatedly happening. there are other fic examples (can't quite remember or have bookmarked) where the denial and delusion is so completely off the charts with a character in trying to get through the aftermath of the event without a freaky sex trope involved.

so i wondered if i could pull off that kind of blurriness and denial in the structure for a character who KNOWS what is happening but thinks they're still straight and will die straight lmao. but fernando in this story is just jaded, retiring and isn't cripplingly repressive.

the notes from my word tracker doc that i had to do to be able to write long fic. i laugh at this every time:

my projected word count for this was 20k, which was so off lmfao.

i put off getting them to have sexy fun in italy at one point because i didn't know yet what emotional point they needed to get to and what grounds they'd be on then. i wrote a bit of a very different scene to lead up to it, but then scrapped it. and then i wrote the auction night and the morning-after scene. tension and conflict (without having to use miscommunication as the necessary crutch) is always one of my most favorite things to write about so i was so glad i got to this point LOL. the payoff of reaching a compromise and then an emotional release later is so rewarding to me! i love that shit

emotionally i just knew i needed it to be like the mindy nettifee poem i grabbed the fic title from.

figuring out how to write lance in this fic was really hard ngl since i went into the story almost blind. cofi made me realise this blind spot when i showed her an early wip and i was like hold awn.... if i wasn't sending @strulovic broken drafts and doing lanceology consultations with her, i wouldn't have gotten anywhere in the story.

alonso being a divorcee irl is so important to each and every one of my agendas thank god for the gay uncle. i did a lot of google searching to be able to write fernando's approach to sex and relationships outside of the job. i knew what i wanted to take away, like the difficulties with intimacy that former workers have had, and still have after the industry sometimes. fernando scrubbing his hands clean at lance's place after the auction despite not having sex with the auction client, his views on wanting the sex with his ex-wife and other exes to be "acceptable and proper" in contrast to whatever he's done for work, and how the internalised homophobia warps this for him while he tries to play the gentleman with lance in italy (and lance being able to read through him and understand that fernando DOES want to fuck him nasty ‼️ though lance doesn't understand the extent of fernando's issue with it). there are also accounts where sex work gave a worker the experience, space and autonomy they needed to slowly heal from prior traumatic and/or abusive experiences. the research was very interesting.

relied on music A LOT. an honorary ldr song [hears collective groaning] that didn't get included in the fic playlist was Love song. lance was in that passenger seat beside fernando in their sleek '67 restored fiat on the way to umbria wishing and wishing to get railed.

ALMOST FORGOT TO INCLUDE: ferrari to mclaren 2.0 fernando was the print here. he keeps the ferrari depression beard ofc.

truly not an overstatement, i think this fic was what made writing smth as long as this quite enjoyable and bearable for me. dare i say fun! haha

Hello one and all, it's the guy who's harassed by Witches (or just a single Witch) all day, every day without fail. Seriously, outta anyone in the world, it's the dude with the Yosuke pfp, it really does run in the Persona Bro archetype to have wack ass luck. (World's worst crackship)

Silly stuff aside, welcome to the 9th episode of Waku Puyo Extras, and if you've been following for a bit, nice to know you've stuck around, and for new guys, it's fine, there's no continuity. Im just late posting this.

This time around, we're talking about PuyoLympics, and I hear you wondering, "Didn't you say you'll talk about Arle's Travel Log last time?" And you're absolutely right, I did. However, it's kinda hard to find footage for the game itself, and I do need extra time, so we'll cover it next time. Curse these games for being niche.

I'm glad PuyoLympics isn't as niche as the others we'll cover some other time (Madou Sugoroku is going to be awful to find footage for,) and I've had this on my backlog, we may as well cover it now, yeah?

So let's cut to the chase, shall we? Not having a tiny video to translate does feel weird still, but otherwise, hope you enjoy.

So, What's the Origins?

Like Serilly's Happy Birthday, PuyoLympics was also a Disc Station game, released in 1997 for PC. Is it safe to say that PC got more games can console players?

(Not exactly the coolest looking start screen, but the opening itself was pretty cool.)

What's interesting about this game is that there's...two versions of it. Well, sorta. PuyoLympics in Basa~ru is technically a sequel, but it's more of a minigame from the original, so there's that. (Covered an entire game in one paragraph.)

The game itself is a sports game, yeah, but it's also somewhat a collection of minigames as well. Think those Mario Party sports minigames, but Puyofied and also you only can choose 2 characters.

Alright, So What's the Story?

It begins as usual, to be honest. Satan is cooking up devious shit again but he somewhat wants to have a twist. In the meantime, Arle and Witch are arguing (leaving even the narrator a tad confused,) about Arle being unathletic.

(The peak of this argument. Words I can't even say.)

They then stumble upon a flyer, stating basically "Yo the Olympics are starting. Win to get a wish." and to settle their scores, Arle and Witch compete, along with a couple of other guys we can't play as, notably Rulue, Draco, and Schezo.

Satan decides that everyone will duel for the prize itself, though you only really play as the two girls. But to get in spirit, he dresses up as a coach to fully begin the thing.

(For some reason, all the footage I got were on Witch's side, even with looking on NicoNico. It was legimately hard to find footage for Arle. However, I do know both their endings, at least.)

For Arle's ending, Satan does say that she can indeed make a wish. However, Arle's unsure of what she should even do, and settles for...losing weight. In which Satan gives her...whatever is shown on the bottom.

(Seriously, what is this? They say it's a magician training cast but...I dunno, man.)

And how about Witch's ending? Well, Satan gives her the choice of whatever she wants, and she's also kinda unsure. However, unlike Arle, she has too MANY wishes to have, and Satan gets absolutely fed up and leaves, angering Witch. And you know what? Good on you, Satan.

So, How's the Gameplay?

Gameplay itself is compressed of several minigames that you play as either Arle or Witch. The Olympics are a big deal after all.

Some of the events are things like the Meter Dash (I'd assume 100,) swimming, and...one game where you smack Puyos aside. I can't explain that one well.

Though in the swimming one, other characters appear at the very least.

(The whole squad came to cheer you on. You can't tell me they're not good friends.)

The games themselves are fairly short, and usually range about the 40 seconds to about a minute or so, they ain't called minigames for nothing. Still, there's some enjoyment itself with playing them.

How About the Visuals and Characters?

Visually, least in my opinion, the game looks really good, and the OST itself is up to par with the series as a whole. Every character looks fairly well made to boot. Good on ya Compile.

And how about the characters themselves? Well...thankfully, they're fairly retained to what we're used to. Let's talk about the main two.

Arle:

Our 2nd favorite girl Arle is roughly the same that we usually know her of. Here, she's still pretty dang cheerful thankfully, though with the argument with Witch and the whole going to the Olympics thing to settle their score...it's not petty, I swear.

As per the Gren Norm, I got so much more to say about Witch because...if the meme told you anything, she's definitely out there. The whole Olympic thing somewhat escalated due to Witch insulting her over being unathletic, which I mean...ouch.

If you play her route, you actually get a cameo appearance with our boy, the 2nd big guy in this Tumblr blog, Schezo Wegey. And if you know me, I'm gonna explain what happens. (At this point I document every misdeed this girl does)

So, Schezo comes into the frame wearing his Puyo SUN outfit as well, and while Witch says hello and why is he here, immediately labels him as a pervert after he claims he wants Arle again and also wants to win the Olympics.

Witch then asks to take off his cape, because he looks like a pervert when he does...and low and behold, he actually does it, shocking her.

And frankly, I'd be surprised also. However, as none of us predicted, Schezo says if she's gonna laugh, to just do it. But she doesn't. Rather, she compliments him. A lot.

The verdict is fairly simple honestly. Elementary, even. The game itself is a very charming game, with a really nice OST, artstyle, and even character writing to an extent. Every character is just fun to read ok and listen to, and it's nice to see such a silly concept be done fairly well.

In my case, I don't need another hyper fixation or anything. I've had enough of such intensities since 2020, but as you said, mostly it's just witnessing mindless drama and the usual bullshit. And on top of that, in terms of the music and other content, what is there left for now? I've been through almost everything BTS. I'm not gonna write about the same thing until I get grey hair. Which means I'm left with paying attention to the solo projects. And since life's too short for me to spend time writing or watching what people do, especially if I don't care much about them, I'm left with the biases. Jungkook is on a break (those saying he's not getting work because the company doesn't offer him opportunities are simply demented) and the only one left is Jimin. And his solo work is starting to pick up and it's really the only relevant thing right now for me.

The problem is that it's become a habit. Keeping up to date through social media, which means that as much as I try to avoid it, I still have to see things and people against my own will and I'm too far into this thing and in my life in order to pretend that I still want to pay attention and write about it. I mean, lately I've made my position even clearer than it was before because it just doesn't matter at the end of the day. I'm in a speeding train caught on fire and at some point I will have to jump. Because I know what awaits me out there. Instead of reading and debating daily fandom bullshit, I can dedicate more of my time to watching films and pick up my dusty books from the library, knowing that there's no way I can be as disappointed as I feel after 2 hours in bts/fandom spaces. I need that dose in order to remind myself that there are things that bring me joy and I don't have to witness stupid people writing nonsense on twitter.

I also have fun here, with its ups and downs. But there's the risk of becoming repetitive and that's the death of passion. No thank you.

And then there's days like this in which it's fun again, starting with that performance rehearsal and ending it so nicely. I missed it. Like you said, I want to be entertained. That's all. im so glad you asked! there’s, like, a lot of speculation and conflicting historical documents on this topic so take most of this with a grain of salt but here’s basically what i was able to find.

the strong and agile style moves are a form of battling arts that originated early 16th century sinnoh (or hisui, as the region was formerly referred as). it continued to be popularized during the 17th and 18th century and peaked around the 19th century, though quickly fell out of popularity once the pokemon league was established in the area. it’s sometimes referred to as move mastery, or 技の皆伝 if you wanna use the original translation. 

the technique was mainly based around the idea of switching between tactics that are strong but slow (strong style, or as they were originally called “Force Moves”) or weak but quick (agile style, or as they were originally called “Swift Moves”). battlers who utilized this style would often switch between these move types in order to get a leg up on their opponent, whether by gaining more opportunities to attack with agile moves or by delivering more effective attacks with strong moves. a common strategy i read about was opening with an agile style to give yourself an opening before finishing them off with a strong move that dealt more damage, but there are a lot more philosophies on the technique you can read about online (i’d recommend researching prof. laventon. a lot of his work with the galaxy team expedition has been lost over the years but he has some really interesting analyses on the style. also, he wrote, like, one of the first ever pokedexes, which is insanely cool).

unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your outlook), move mastery has been outlawed pretty much everywhere. once pokemon science got more advanced, we learned that using these techniques took a lot more out of pokemon than regular moves (i believe some math calculated it took about twice as much energy), so once the sinnohan league was officially established and codified this technique was banned pretty much everywhere. after that, it dwindled in popularity to the point where nowadays pretty much nobody knows about it. there are a few dojos scattered here and there, but for the most part its been lost to times. i think they made the right call with outlawing it (pokemon safety always comes first, of course) but tbh i think its kinda weird how, like, this of all things is the battle strat we’ve decided to universally ban. like, people are freely mega-evolving over in kalos and some parts of hoenn and there are pages upon pages of research about how that’s bad for pokemon, but whatever. i dont live there so its not my place to judge.

To clarify, on tiktok about 2 ish years ago, there was a trend using the word hiraeth to describe homesickness.

Hiraeth is a cultural word. It means deep longing for wales and our culture. It literally cannot be properly translated into english. Its one of those ‘it sounds better in the original language’ situations. Except it sounds better because there is no English equivalent. Essentially, it is Welsh. Full stop. That’s it. You can’t change the meaning. But ohhh boy did the fucking americans and english people try to.

The trend had people mispelling it, misusing it, putting slideshows of their hometowns in america and england and everywhere BUT wales because it, and this is a direct fucking quote, ‘is such an aesthetic word.’

Oh, im glad you find it aesthetically pleasing. Im sure you would have loved to see the #colonialistcore experience of england fucking banning our own language for 500 years, punishing the few welsh children in schools that dared to speak their own language by hanging the ‘Welsh Not’ around their necks, and any child wearing it at the end of the day got punished. sirius and reg in oby are !! so important to me !! i feel like they have the best relationship in all of my fics, bc they're on good terms on nothing happens too but they argue . a lot . and they're gonna have some issues down the line. and they're also very close in the boxer au but there's still gonna be a lot of angst regarding their relationship. in oby, tho, they're just brothers <3 they love each other so much <3 and i'm so glad i'm portraying their dynamic accurately bc a lot of their convos are based on stuff me and my sisters have talked/fought about lmao
