NOTES:
no, its so rad how kamala harris's biographer thinks that someone who lived in montreal canada from ages 12-23 is a "daughter of california". so rad how you can not live in california from ages 1-6 and 12-23 and still claim it. this is worse than when hillary clinton moved to nyc at age 53 and started saying "as a lifelong new yorker..."
that first part about her being a liberal "by san francisco standards" is hurting my brain too. i lived like a third of my life in that city and "liberals by SF standards" are anarchist-capitalists
kamala was sucking off willie brown for 6 figure jobs she never had to show up to in the mid-late 90s, which despite pro-sw people being "hell yeah" actually still is just plain corruption, if she did great work in the job then it would be "hell yeah" but she simply stole californian taxpayer money there, hell no to that
"its not like she was too far left of the mainstream!" this clown writes as if that is not the worst possible thing about her, she withheld prisoners past release dates to sell their prison labor for 17 cents an hour before the rates went up. she is a cop and an authoritarian and that is what usa needs much less of in 2024 and beyond
"only could have happened in california" except it didnt, it happened in india, jamaica and canada, literal non-usa places
"her father, an economics professor at stanford" he is a MARXIST economist, weird to leave that word out, tbh i would rather he be president or even her VP, donald j harris vs donald j trump would have been funny as hell
lastly, sketchers are trash, if she was a real "californian" she would have worn vans, the unofficial shoe of the california people

Sewma: A2, A3, A7, A10, A20, B2, B8, B16, C2, C3, C7, D1, D3, E4, E5, F1, F4, F6, F11, G1, G5, H7, H9, I2, I5, J3, J7, L9
sewwy...
A2: What alignment are they? Chaotic neutral, lawful evil, et cetera…
chaotic good i think.......... hes definitely out doing Good Deeds but definitely also without regard for the opinions of others opposition......or laws.....
A3: Do they have any emotional or psychological conditions? Are they aware of it? Do they try to treat it?
honestly after all that's Happened to him he's come out relatively unscathed (MENTALLY, mentally). he's traumatized from the ivy event and is coping with it kinda strangely but if he has any degree of ptsd its not severe. besides his questionable womanmode-ing and relocation to the border (might've done that anyway even if things didnt go the way they did), he's recovering mentally better than anyone could reasonably ask of him. he's relatively neurotypical otherwise he's just a weird guy.........Horrifying.
A7: Is your OC confident in their reactions to life in general, or do they get embarrassed or easily shamed for it? I.e., if something startles them, do they insist it WAS scary? When they cry, do they feel like they overreacted?
he is OVERLY confident he thinks he is always correct never wrong ever in his life. the only person really remotely capable of shaming him into reconsidering his reactions are people particularly close to him (ivy, leslie Especially) because he cares about their opinions. otherwise, he's kinda always been the first guy to make a fuss about something without caring about the general climate of opinions. which is sometimes good but sometimes really fucking annoying LMAO. i promise he has positive opinions on things too.........somewhere in his brain.....
A10: Does your OC compromise easily? Too easily?
I'd say no but i mean....he IS housing the ex president..... i think the compromises he makes are still quite strictly limited to being made Only due to his code of ethics (career-related or otherwise). His big beliefs about pacifism and turning no one away and etc can be a little..... 'liberal' at times. he PROMMIES it will pay off in the longrun and it makes you the bigger person he prommies he prommies (he barely believes it anymore himself but hes not ready to accept such a thing)
A20: Are they harsh on themselves?
as hard as a highly arrogant person can be LOL i think he has a lot of guilt over things he couldn't/can't have control of but i think that goes hand-in-hand with the arrogance. like GRR WHY couldnt i STOP ivy from being murdered and SOLVE region-wide hunger and STOP the spread of radiation and cancer im DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT (i know this for a fact and if u tell me im not you are wrong)!!!!
B2: Do they get frustrated when lines at places like pharmacies, check-outs, delis, banks, et cetera, are moving slowly?
he does because he's an impatient and angry person but he could never admit it because that would be 1. hypocritical 2. not very leftist unionizing justice slay of him
B8: Is your OC considered funny? Do they believe they’re funny?
LMAO IDK I THINK HE TAKES HIMSELF TOO SERIOUSLY TO BE TRULY FUNNY BUT HIS RANTS ARE OVER THE TOP ENOUGH TO BE FUNNY AT TIMES. VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT SILLY SHIT.
B16: Does your OC like to be the center of attention or more in the mix?
he fucking LOVES attention. always has.
C2: Would your OC feel bad if they acted against their morals? If not, would they find a way to excuse themselves for it?
he feels bad and looks for a way to excuse himself anyway LOL once again this would only happen in one of those aforementioned conflict-of-interest type situations. he'd probably say something about how it benefits the cause in the longrun or at worst how he's constantly Learning and Evolving 😤
C3: Is it important for them to be with people (socially, intimately, whatever) whose major ideological tenets align with their own?
absolutely. important enough that he'd skip military school over it. important enough that he'd start a doctors' union and zine periodical and community-building projects and doiflkhgdfkghdfkjhfkj. its not that he CAN'T be around people he doesn't quite align with, its more like those people wont want to be around Him bcz hes obnoxious. it's part of his Identity and Community at this point (u can see why the past few years have been so painful to him)
C7: Do they believe people change over time? If so, is it a natural process or does it take effort?
he has a ton of faith in peoples' ability to change WITH effort and community support. i think it's part of why he agreed to take harvey in. classic case of guy who thinks he can fix everyone. he IS a doctor after all cmon.
D1: How religious is your OC? What do they practice, if anything? If they don’t associate with any religion, what do they think of religion in general?
religion is pretty unspoken about in general Regionally so he doesn't really consider it much. i think if he lived in Outsider America he'd be horrified by how many wars its caused/played part in, generally speaking, and be pretty turned off by it LOL. he'd probably enjoy the stories though (only the ones that involve kindness to the less fortunate). and he'd enjoy the idea of ghosts and eternal souls and such since for now he's busy eternalizing people via the Things they've left behind. oh also i was originally gonna make him a member of some fringe religion before i even Designed him, just to make him more of a social reject ig LMAOOO. that never stuck
D3: How comfortable are they with the idea of death?
see above. he's not particularly comfortable with it mentally, like it bothers him and it specifically upsets him that it's happening so much more than it needs to, but he's gotta be able to cope with it, again, considering he's a doctor n all. he does what he can to avoid dying, personally. he's relatively careful about his health n all (as careful as one can be in region zero? LOL). he wants as much time as he can be afforded. he deeply hopes that he wont end up like his peers who have died. he doesn't want to die a gorey or painful death, he's already dealt with enough gore and pain and made it out to see the aftermath. he wasn't as afraid of dying as he should've been when he was closest to it. i think he believed he was going to live like 80% of the time as shit was going down with the ivy incident. which is strange for someone to believe foa (he is overconfident in himself in all situations) but also sucks for him because now he's gotta actively think about how he's gonna deal with his dead friend and the disfigurement he's actively undergoing while it's all happening??? GREAT.
E4: Did they enjoy school if they went to it?
absolutely not LOL he's booksmart n all but he'd skip a lot. he'd blame it on hating the structure or the prison-like qualities or something but i think the real answer is that he didn't like it because he doesn't know how to shut up and sit down for extended periods of time. guy who gets an A on all his tests but a D- in homework. once he got more hands-on in medical school he enjoyed things wayyyy more. he needs the human interaction and freedom to move around.
E5: What’s their highest education level? Do they want to continue their education?
He's been through the equivalent of medical school basically, he's current a Medical Doctor officially speaking (and practices primary care/family doctoring basically). He finished normal civilian high school, went through 2ish years of basic college-level schooling in the military then started working toward his medical license there as well. After he left the military he completed his 'residency' type training with Leslie at the community clinic mostly + her extension of her family's practice while that was a thing. He's not gonna continue his education he hates classrooms and ppl telling him what to do so much.
F1: What sort of home do they live in now, if at all? How did they end up there?
:) he lives in ivy's office that she was gonna relocate to with him and probably leslie eventually :) he IS technically a co-signer on the paperwork for it its not illegal for him to stay there. its just fucking weird LOL. especially when there's so much work to be done back in the suburbs and so few comrades to do it. he moved there a few weeks after the ivy incident because he couldn't take how tense shit was getting between him and leslie and couldn't take being reminded of everything that happened every day. he wouldn't word it that way tho.
F4: How clean are they overall with home upkeep?
not messy, but messier than you'd hope your doctor to be LOL. he's not dirty, just disorganized. HE knows where everything is but it would never be very obvious to anyone else.
F6: How much do they work? What do they do? Do they enjoy it?
he's basically on-call 24/7 but what he actually does is.....whatever he can do <3 he takes a few patients per day for checkups and prescriptions and referrals and such, basic urgent care type stuff. and he takes a lot of phonecalls from people with questions. it's definitely not what he'd prefer to be doing in terms of doctoring jobs but he's not ready to face the world and interact with more patients as he is.
F11: What are some of their favorite things to do for recreation? How did they get into it? What part of it do they like the most?
he loves to COMPLAIN RECREATIONALLY and WATCH JEOPARDY and PLAY DRESSUP (THIS IS NOT AS RECREATIONAL AS HE CLAIMS IT IS). this is SELF CARE to him. rare selma pre daily beautification routine:
Tumblr media
G1: Is your OC close to their family?
Nah they kinda hate his ass for being difficult and he kinda hates their asses for being military scum but. he IS their only child. they probably talk once in a while but not recently. not since the ivy stuff especially.
G5: Did they go through any typical phases growing up?
idk if he had anything especially typical, he was just a kinda bougie brat LOL. probably the first kid to try alcohol Once in his friend group in middle school and brag about it really hard.
H7: What do they look for in partners? (Emotionally, mentally, physically..)
he looks for someone who has the same values as him (very important) but can also challenge him Intellectually. someone who will entertain his more abstract ideas (he wants to start a band so bad). someone who will balance his cunty femmeness.
H9: What are some things that your OC finds to be an instant turn-off in potential partners?
bad politics 😒
I2: Do they have any eating requirements or preferences? Allergies, vegetarian, organic-only, religious restrictions…
i think given his pacifism it only makes sense for him to be vegetarian but his options are pretty limited considering the Nontoxic Food Shortage......
Tumblr media
I5: Are they a good cook?
hes not a BAD cook. hes definitely no chef tho LOL he knows how to make like 6 meals thats enough <3
J3: How politically active are they?
incredibly politically active for a guy who has like 675599484 better things to be doing. as least he Used to be that way up until the past year. he's on hiatus now because he dare not show his wretched face around his people but he still supports the cause. he's REFINING HIS PHILOSOPHY give him some time.
J7: How much interest in environmental health do they have?
very much interested, it's one of the pillars of his politics and he believes it to be one of the biggest overarching issues facing the region currently and in the future (it is). he's not extremely well-versed in environmental protection or how any of that really works, he's kinda learning as he goes/talking to other people who know more. doesnt take a rocket scientist to say 'hey maybe we need a more sustainable method of income and maybe less improper disposal of toxic waste people are dying'
L9: How did you come up with your OC?
he kinda took a longer time than the others to design/decide a specific role and personality for. had to grow on me for a while. i wanted someone to be a strong contrast to harvey tho. he fluctuated for a long time between being someone generally hated and someone generally appreciated LOL. i never really originally intended for him to be such a political person (more of an eccentric one than anything) but he eventually grew into that. plus i got like 2 more ocs out of it (his comrades) <3

if i could pitch in my two cents as someone who's not able to vote but who's from the global south (syria gang gang 🇸🇾) and so tragically has a stake in american politics:
local elections are absolutely the place where your voice will matter most and have the greatest ripple effect, but on the matter of large elections like the presidential one, there ARE good options and i think there 100% is merit in voting third party, even if the benefits of that won't come quickly.
gonna super quick get on my soapbox and let ppl know that claudia de la cruz and karina garcia from the party of socialism and liberation are running for president and VP, and they rock, and they're going so hard on standing up for palestinians right now. they're making a HUGE impact on the political left (not just milk toast liberals, but genuine "fuck the capitalist system" leftists).
and like here's the thing... i actually don't think they'd win in 2024. the system is just horrifically rigged, and i think that splitting the progressive vote between democrat and third party would definitely result in a republican victory. the simple fact is that center-left progressives are entirely divorced from leftists, but center-right conservatives are willing to ally with the alt-right trumpers. i'm not gonna sit here and lie and pretend that it'll all be hunky-dory in 2024. in fact, the reason i've been so on the fence about this matter for so long is because it took me a long time to understand why some leftists are advocating for a strategy like splitting the vote which would so massively benefit republicans.
the person that really made things click for me was imani barbarin (crutches & spice on tiktok), when she pointed out a very consistent pattern within the democratic party: they don't fucking do shit without insane pressure. like real, actual, "i'm gonna lose my job" pressure. biden didn't even consider a 4 day humanitarian pause until his polling numbers plummeted lower than ever before. but he did, eventually, give in a little. that's very much the democrat's playbook, and you can see it time and time again.
yes, calling and emailing your reps can have an impact, but they know you don't think you have any other options. they know they have you trapped between a rock and a hard place, and they know the intensity of the partisanship in this country will force you into complacency. they're banking on it. the point is to make it clear that you're willing to let them lose their careers and income if they keep doing this. and yes, that's probably going to mean letting them lose and letting republicans win.
i'm not so idealistic that i think a socialist woc is gonna be the next president, but here's what i do think will happen: record high numbers of people will vote third party, and the democratic party will face massive losses including the presidential seat. you gotta strike fear into them, because no amount of appealing to their morals will ever be enough to bring change.
"but what about trump/project 2025!!" biden never promised you he'll stop that in any way shape or form. the sad and very radicalizing reality is that all of those things would happen anyway even under a democrat president. cop city is being built now. children are being deported now. people are starving now. war is happening now. the IRS is being defunded now. the electoral college exists now. abortion rights are being overturned now. climate change is happening now. education is collapsing now (and it has been for decades).
i'm not saying you should give republicans any grace and im not saying republicans are our saviors or anything. sometimes the most strategic thing is to let the enemy take the W. if people en mass just refuse to vote democrat, it'll actually be a wake up call for the ghouls in congress that they can't keep doing this shit. you gotta make em hurt, man. and then maybe after they realize the game is up and they're forever screwed, y'all can actually have a president like claudia de la cruz.
EDIT: for the people refusing to vote democrat or republican, i do still encourage you to vote 3rd party even if you know it won't really count. it still sends a message. you aren't some shmuck who doesn't vote or care about politics, you're very intentionally sending a message of "you all fucking suck." and sending that message with a single vote will mean more than a thousand emails or calls saying the same thing but then still voting blue.
I don’t want to misunderstand and make things worse for people. When you (and others) say don’t vote, do you mean don’t vote for biden or don’t vote at all?
Hey thanks for sending this in. No worries I understand the confusion.
I said in the tags in the previous post that I think people should vote for the reps in that list because they can be bullied into doing things based on the traditional means of opinion sharing (calling, writing letters, etc) and plus it's a nice little "we meant it when we said we would not be voting for you when we called" to the other dems. Basicially, using your vote strategically as a threat and sending a message instead of just blindly voting blue because red is "worse" and not because you actually like any of Democrats policies.
When I personally say I'm not going to vote, I am still voting in local elections and school boards and things like that. I definitely think you should always vote on the school board, especially, if nothing else. But I don't think I will be voting for major politicians like presidency — at least next election. I don't live in any of the districts of the ceasefire reps either.
Not voting and seeing people not voting would make people change their strategies. They know they can't rely on votes naturally anymore — they actually have to earn them based on material change. That's my personal intention, at least, with not voting. That and... like hell am I going to vote for the party and people that called for the blood of Palestinians. I do genuinely think they're bad people that no one should ever support under any circumstances, and I'll stick by that.
People mention voting for third party and I've recieved asks about it but.... I'm not sure. I think being president of the most powerful country in the world changes you fundamentally. We (palestinians) were hopeful for Obama when he went into office, and he did nothing, largely abandoning us, and he was taught by Edward Said himself. He was friends with Khalidi. He knew what was happening and still he made the decisions that he did.
Now I don't think you should just blindly follow whatever anyone says on the matter. I'm only giving you my opinion on this based on personal experience and past circumstances. You should genuinely, honestly, think about how your vote impacts others, especially around the world. Voting "blue" just because it might be easier for you here, then largely ignoring the entire world that's affected by the US, is, in my opinion, a pretty selfish decision. Besides, as someone who is disabled, Biden has already abandoned a large swath of people and basically left them to die with how he's dealt with covid. The migrant concentration camps are still there. He can't do anything about the Supreme Court and their messed up decisions. He won't do anything meaningful to protect any type of person in the states either, so what are we voting for exactly?
Voting is not a chore you have to do to keep your rights. Voting is a participation in your political system depending on the circumstances surrounding the things you care about. When that political system largely ignores you, I don't see a purpose in participating and showing support — because that's what Voting is, support — to people you fundamentally disagree with and those that don't really care about you.

week 1
well! i’ve already written several journal entries about this past week, but the website i was using to write them deleted them :) thousands of words! isn’t that exciting. so i’m gonna summarize the first week here and then continue using this blog, i guess, because even though this website is literal hell at least it (usually) saves posts lol
SO
i landed last friday (sept 1) and stayed with rachel and david garber. they were incredibly sweet to me even though i did pretty much nothing other than sleep or hide in my room and read. at one point we visited a monastery nearby in modi’in, which was beautiful! also jet lag is a bitch
the program started monday, so that’s when i moved into my house and met everyone. it’s actually a pretty sizeable house! we could have probably almost double as much space if there wasn’t so much storage from the program, tbh, but it’s ok because the other groups are all living in apartments, many of them with more than 6 people. so it’s cool.
there are 6 of us, 5 girls and 1 guy:
rachel - very very sweet! kind of like. a naive liberal with p infuriating politics, but she’s incredibly nice. kinda like dorky and awkward sometimes but in a very endearing way (also like aren’t we all lol)
sultana - sultana is so cool lmfao. she’s pretty and smart and has family from all over the world and has been all over the world and has done so many cool things! also some odd politics but like. whatever
marleigh - i love marleigh she’s so laid-back and chill and sweet and fun to be around!! she never learned the alef bet so i’ve been helping her, and she’s picking it up really quickly
madeleine - a purple-haired vegan lesbian with an “animal rights is a feminist issue” sticker on her water bottle. very much like a Tumblr Person. she’s incredibly kind and her girlfriend has been hanging out with us all week and i love them both and they’re adorable
matt - he’s like 28 and can be kind of an asshole sometimes but never toward us. he’s been super nice and funny and helpful around the house and stuff
and then me!
so somehow i managed to score the single room, which is honestly a godsend because i don’t know how i would survive without it. i really was unsure how i was going to deal with being overwhelmed and needing alone time and stuff, and that was one of my biggest sources of anxiety for this program. but everyone seems cool with it (matt has his own room too obviously) and also when i mention that ive never lived not at home, i have anxiety, etc, they all seem happy for me that i have the single so that im able to be a little more comfortable :)
-
tuesday was destination israel orientation, and basically we just went to a place in bat yam and poorly mingled and then had to introduce ourselves in front of everyone and it was just bleh. i was stuck standing by myself a few times, or otherwise following rachel around. i don’t know how to be social lmfao i’m gonna have to work on that
-
wednesday we did a walking tour of ramla’s old city, which was really beautiful. we started in a little museum and then walked through the road of the old city (and passed a building where napolean stayed for a night or two!) and then saw the white tower (and climbed all 121 steps up to the top) and the pool of arches, which was awesome.
and then this guy david leichman came for dinner. he’s a friend of jerry kaye’s, i found out, which kind of didn’t surprise me based on the way he talked. he just kind of...rambled about his philosophies on life for like over an hour and seemed very self-important lmao. but it was whatever. everyone else kind of seemed to be hanging on his every word but i was like eh
-
thursday we visited the center where we’ll be tutoring kids in english and also doing our ulpan and pedagogical training. and then thursday night we went to samir’s and i actually got drunk!
before we went to dinner i had a conversation about politics with marleigh and sultana, and ending up revealing that i’m a leftist before revealing that i’m a lesbian lmfao
and then yeah at samir’s they gave us a free shot of lemon vodka so i took it and ended up taking 2 more, and i didn’t even get nauseous! so i was a nice level of drunk but definitely still functional, and everyone seemed to love drunk jami.
i ended up telling sultana that i’m a lesbian and then also telling madeleine’s gf and then madeleine, which felt good. it was actually a super fun night.
-
friday sultana marleigh and i went to the beach in tel aviv! it was stunning and soooo nice, but i ended up getting pretty badly sunburned even though i put on sunscreen like 4 times. the salt of the mediterranean was a little much and i hate getting sand everywhere but that’s just what it is.
after the beach on the way home we stopped at one of the shuks in tel aviv, and i got a pair of those light airy middle eastern long pants which i’m incredibly excited to wear.
and then for dinner nurit invited us to her apartment! there was SOOOOOOOOOO much food, it was insane.
nurit and her sister had invited some couples as well, and one of the guys is from nigeria, so we were sitting and talking to him about america for a bit. naturally i ended up ranting about income inequality and classism and stuff and they were so surprised when we talked about like, how expensive education is, food deserts, the opportunities denied to poor people and subsequent blame of poor people for their problems, etc.
and at one point i was like “yeah in america rich people hate poor people” and rachel was like “well that’s not true, not every single rich person does” and then i almost jumped off the (beautiful) 16th floor balcony.
dinner was delicious but there was so fucking much food that i ended up feeling nauseous all night. potentially because i ate some spicy fish. it was so good though i couldn’t turn it down lmao. but they just kept bringing out course after course and people kept trying to persuade me to eat more, and i’m proud to say that i held my ground! not that i really had any other choice bc if i had eaten more i genuinely think i would’ve thrown up.
-
it’s saturday morning so i’ll probably wait to write tonight’s entry, but idk what i’m planning on doing today. probably nothing.
i had a vivid dream about cameron last night which really fucking sucks. every so often i’ll have a really sweet and intimate and tender dream about him and i wake up feeling so uncomfortable and confused. in the dream i was literally identifying as a lesbian and was like “hm well maybe not” because of him and it was so awful lol. i hate him and i hate what he did to me and i hate that i still dream about him or think about him even though he’s literally such an awful person. like he wants to join the navy i hate him and if i met him now instead of in high school i would still hate him so @ brain what the fuck are you doing!!!!!!
