⚜️ Bronze helmet of Illyrian type

📝 The Illyrian type helmet (or Greco-Illyrian type helmet) is a style of bronze helmet, which in its later variations covered the entire head and neck, and was open-faced in all of its forms.

In the Illyrian helmet, the opening for the face is rectilinear, with a horizontal line at the forehead and two verticals at the inner edges of the cheekpieces. Two parallel ridges on the crown frame the crest.

Its earliest styles were first developed in ancient Greece, specifically in the Peloponnese, during the 8th-7th centuries BC (700–640 BC). The helmet was misleadingly named as an “Illyrian” type due to a large number of early finds coming from Illyria.

📝 Иллирийские шлемы — первые цельнометаллические шлемы, производившиеся в Древней Греции. Листы бронзы выгибали по форме головы, соединяли внахлёст и скрепляли заклёпками в местах соприкосновения, в результате чего на макушке образовывались продольные рёбра жёсткости. Позднее греки научились ковать шлемы из цельной заготовки, традиционно сохраняя продольные рёбра.

Характерной особенностью шлема служат отсутствие наносника, продольные рёбра на макушке, крупные треугольные «уши»-нащёчники и прямоугольный вырез для лица.

Шлем подо��ного типа был ошибочно назван «иллирийским» из-за археологических находок на территории, которую в античное время занимала Иллирия.
