Last Song I Listened To: not a song per se, but I put on my instrumental playlist to help my dog calm down during a thunderstorm/fireworks earlier tonight (yes, both). Intentionally? Enemy by Imagine Dragons

Favorite food: Berlin-style doner kebab, which I can't get here, which is a tragedy

Last thing I googled: "dock" (specifically looking for the difference between a dock and a pier, and if there's a specific architectural name for a water-based entrance to a fortress via a cavelike hole in the outer wall through which a small boat can be steered and moored at an indoor dock, apparently for deliveries, because it features in lots of video games and there's got to be a one-to-two-word name for it, right??? I just want to indicate that this thing exists without drawing undue attention to it by using half a page to describe it, please for the love of fuck--)

More about my OCs

Poison - vices/bad habits? what are they? how do they affect your OC? (answered this and then realized i’m not sure if i really answered the original question but whatever)

Emma and Andre are both weak for gossip. They know they shouldn’t enjoy it as much as they do. They also love watching really bad trashy tv together.

Lauren is very Type A and needs everything to be a certain way. This can be a good thing in some situations but also goes a little too far sometimes and just ends up stressing her and everyone else out.

Jamie is the opposite - he doesn’t want to be lazy but sometimes things just get away from him. He’ll catch himself not doing his laundry for weeks on end, or forgetting about dishes on his nightstand until suddenly he’s got all of the apartment’s mugs hidden in weird places. He’s also kind of allergic to confrontation and is bad at standing up for himself.

Frances is not great at expressing emotions. He’s a really quiet guy, and believes actions speak louder than words. Which is great, until he hasn’t verbally expressed affection for Roman in like a week, or lets his frustrations build up without expressing them until suddenly his problems are way worse than they would’ve been if he’d just said something to begin with. Similar to Jamie’s being allergic to confrontation, but manifesting in a slightly different way.

Roman isn’t passive aggressive - they’re just a little aggressive. They aren’t afraid to speak their mind, but sometimes this comes off as blunt or insensitive. They don’t mean any harm, but it can definitely come across that way.

Compass - who’s the moral compass? in general: what are your OCs’ morality like? do they have high morals, or not? are their morals self imposed, or do they base their morals on religion/family/influence of others?

I’m gonna answer this in Hogwarts houses because that seems appropriate/applicable?

Andre and Roman are Gryffindors - loud, a little brash, impulsive. They both tend to act first, think about consequences later, but their hearts are always in the right place, even when they’re being dumb

Lauren and Frances are Ravenclaws. In Lauren, this can mean (like Roman), coming off as a little insensitive or pretentious - she doesn’t think she’s generally better than other people, but she also thinks that if she is better at something specific, there’s no reason for her not to be doing it. Frances on the other hand, overthinks his interactions with people. He’s very fascinated by the way people interact with each other (part of why he became a bartender). Like I said above, he’s kind of terrified of confrontation, so he’s always overanalyzing the things he says and does as to not offend or hurt people.

Jamie is a Hufflepuff. He values kindness above everything, and is a very chill, easygoing dude. Too easygoing, sometimes. Again, bad at standing up for himself. He’ll protect his friends over anything though. If someone’s harassing him, he’ll just deal with it, but the minute some creepy dude started bothering one of the waitresses at his work, he was out of the kitchen and getting ready to fight. One of his coworkers had to hold him back so the manager could deal with it and Jamie wouldn’t get fired.

Emma is a Slytherin. She, like Jamie, protects her friends above anything else. She’s not so worried about being chill and likable the rest of the time though, and does not hesitate to speak her mind or stand up for herself. Not saying that Jamie is fake or anything, Emma is just. Very unapologetic about who she is. If that means people don’t like her, she’s okay with that.

Parachute - who does your OC(s) trust the most? who makes them feel safe? who would they do absolutely anything for?

This is, above anything else, a story of found family. Every character has a weird, conflicted relationship with their bio family in different ways. At the beginning, Roman/Emma/Frances are already very much a little group, and Lauren/Jamie/Andre are a little group. By the end, they would all do anything for each other.

of course I’m doing nano this year… i’m just addicted to that creeping dread l m a o…. but I’m going to work on a few different stories, so my main goal is just to get writing again. You can make nano whatever you want that you think will motivate you

this is honestly the best approach to Nano, i think.

i don’t think i’ll finish the current thing i’m working on before November so maybe i’ll consider whatever words i add to it in November to be part of my Nano count, and then spend the rest of the 50k writing something else? something original??

that’ll give me a little flexibility in going into this so unprepared.
