First time ever introduction to Swing Dance in Mbale District. I'm so excited 😃😁 how few dancers whom I have met in Mbale felt interested and motivated about swing dance after having a good interaction and watching some of the videos, I did with the children in Kampala. Then the competition of @lindyhopchamps which children of Heart of Dance African Rhythm represented Uganda 🇺🇬 and they managed to be second in position, the first time ever. But one of the question, which I was asked by these dancers was "How will they benefit from the Swing Dance because it's still new to them and as a dancer, you need to go for something which will benefit you in your life?" Anyway just stay tuned on what will be coming up soon about our first meeting dance video of swing which was choreographed by #Jeans and just all about fun and the feeling of the music. Not forgetting the people and the swing with Lindyhop community for standing with me on this project of reaching out to different communities of Uganda 🇺🇬 implementing #Lindyhop and #Swing dance to young generations. Sometimes we keep silent and people wonder, what's going on but we are busy reaching out to different communities in all corners of Uganda 🇺🇬. We are so happy to extend our classes to one of the community called Naguru to the dance group called Smile Africa Foundation and this was there first ever swing dance and Lindyhop class, so we shall keep teaching them until they are well with it. After this community, we shall be going to Eastern region and reach out to different dance communities because we need by the end of 2021, we have good number of different communities dancing swing dance and Lindyhop in Uganda 🇺🇬. So we can't do it alone seriously but with your support and also you coming on board to move with us that will make us so happy seriously. Happy Birthday Frankie Manning. In Uganda we decided to celebrate it in style by taking children to the beach dance, play and interact with the children about the legacy of Frankie Manning and how he contributed to the growth of Swing Dance and Lindyhop in America and all over the world. As we are in the month of celebrating #FrankieBirthday2021 And also keeping his legacy around the world. I was really so happy to share with the dancers in Gulu at #The Floor Motion event which was organized by @messageg , @dax_benda123 and others whom I didn't mention. When I talked about Swing Dance and Lindyhop, everyone was confused and wondering, how it could be but during the workshop people started to pick up with it. Now it has given me task to come back to Gulu and hold one week workshop with different dancers around. By the time we end this year, we shall be having Swing Dance all of over Uganda 🇺🇬 and much amazing young generation taking it to the next level. Get ready for another new collaboration of me, children and @vintageglamourlife, it's dropping up soon the video and this will inspire, motivate and encourage a lot of dancers in different parts of the world. During this covid19 situation, I decided to collaborate with different dancers around the world to show the solidarity, we need to have among ourselves to brought unity and peace. Connecting children of Uganda to different parts of the world through dance of swing and lindyhop was one of the way which I thought would help me express my gratitude and appreciation to everyone who is supporting me excel the idea to allover Uganda 🇺🇬 and neighborhood countries too. The Big Apple Routine As the story goes, legendary swing dancer Frankie Manning was in Hollywood, California along with his dance group Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers during the fall of 1937, when he received a telephone call from his manager in New York, Herbert White, a.k.a. “Whitey.” Whitey had just seen the Big Apple dance performance at the Roxy Theater and excitedly described the movements of the dance to Frankie. Because the Big Apple incorporated many jazz steps that Frankie and the Lindy Hoppers already knew, Frankie was able to piece together his own version of the Big Apple and teach it to his troupe. Frankie’s Big Apple routine was originally slated to appear in the Judy Garland film Everybody Sings, but it was cut due to a disagreement over working conditions between the film director and Whitey. Frankie later taught the routine to dancers at the Savoy Ballroom once he returned to New York, and Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers were eventually captured performing the routine on film in the 1939 film Keep Punchin’. I'm really so happy to start practicing this routine of Big Apple with the support of our amazing teachers @Time2swing taking us through it on zoom which is challenging but also fun. It's really so bad that has started interfering with our zoom classes of the amazing routine. Swingopedia Speaks. Attending the Swingopedia Speaks as Joseph Sewell interviews the founder of the first Black Dance Museum and author of the Book Soul Dancing Mr. Frank R. Ross, to his vast knowledge on his history of dance from Egyption times, Plantation Dances, Master Juba and so many dance that have influenced Tap, Solo Jazz and the numerous swing dances. I'm really so happy to be part of the zoom meeting, which has helped me to learn more of the Black American Dance especially Swing, Tap, Solo Jazz etc. Mr. Frank R. Ross encouraged me so much to keep on what am doing now because atleast we have technology, that has made things easier than there time ago, where it wasn't there. Excitement of getting shoes now because they have been dancing on their bear feet since I started working with them and if you see all the videos, I have recorded with them, they are not putting on shoes but someone surprised me through donating in something small for me to add on and get some of the children shoes, which has happened now and some are still missing out because it wasn't enough for everyone. Small things we do always for our communities are the happiness, we have in our hearts and these made me sleep so lovely with a lot of smiles 😍😍 which I saw from these Children's faces. And some of them were like Coach George are you serious these shoes are for us to use in our dancing practicing then I was yes exactly. So now don't heritage to support me through that because I still have more children who are lacking the shoes and I want them to stop complaining on stones hurting them always. Just thirty minutes will pump you up if that is all the time you have. If you aren’t sure what your passion is then start trying new things you’ve always wanted to do. Don’t be afraid of being a beginner. Beginners are allowed to make mistakes and attract many ‘angel helpers’. So cut yourself a break and try something outrageously fun.
