Following on from the Amuto inspired princess carry Aquaroth pic from a while back, I had this random idea to doodle Aqua and some others basing the poses off Shugo Chara screenshots.

-cough cough, I realised a bit too late the initial Aqua profile drawing wasn't done and just went lazy mode on that one, forgive me-

It's my first time drawing a lot of them so pls be gentle with me. ><"

I decided to just put the gifs alongside still frames bc I can't animate. So, you can just imagine it with me~

This anime was a big part of my childhood and a guilty pleasure of mine, I suppose - it has all the shoujo vibes that I enjoyed as a kid. (and still do now with certain things ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ )

This is not meant to be a KH/FF themed Shugo Chara AU (*￣;(￣ *)

As in, I'm not making an entire universe where the KH/FF characters replace the Shugo Chara ones and they have their own story or something. I just liked the cinematography of the first opening and wanted to do something with it.

That being said, I do see connections with Aqua and Amu; that whole thing of what you're expected to be and who you really want to be. Aqua, of course, always drowning in her own wishes to be "the good, responsible one".

But...yeah! This was fun. >w< Some of my art I'm just like ._. but oh well.

I apologise if it made no sense, hahaha

I'm definitely going to be doing some more Amuto scenes from this anime with Aquaroth in a similar style so if you're keen on that, stay tuned >w>

My litmus test for if someone is worth discussing Shugo Chara with is how they think about Utau being attracted to Ikuto and the revelation of their uh "relationship."

[Spoilers under cut. If you know, you know.]

Like, do they understand why she's attracted to her brother? Do they understand what themes that attraction is used to highlight? Do they get how it relates to the wider themes of trauma and unstable identities and messed up family dynamics that warp the children within them?

Do they understand that Utau kissing her brother is part of the constantly reoccurring cycle of characters messed up by trauma and then becoming warped and unpleasant and harming others because that trauma is not being dealt with in a healthy manner? The cycle which underpins every single major villain in the story?

It's one thing to be grossed out by it, whatever, so were Kuukai, and Amu, and Ikuto! But when people start dismissing it as shock value fanservice or going "it shouldn't be in a kids manga!" it just tells me that they completely missed the point.

Yeah, it was messed up! Utau is messed up! Her relationship with her brother is messed up! Their childhood was messed up! Utau's behaviour towards her brother is a direct result of how messed up they are! The manga practically screams this at you!!!

And you know what? That should be in a kids manga. Utau's development of realizing her misplaced attraction to her brother is the result of her unstable family dynamics and learning to let go of him in that respect is important!

You think there aren't kids dealing with that? You think there aren't kids that have struggled with misplaced and inappropriate attractions to people because they've been messed up by trauma? You think they don't deserve to be seen and heard and told "you're not broken" and to know they can still be worth love and recovery? To know that they can still navigate a relationship outside of those misplaced attractions and messed up dynamics?

Genuinely: Utau's sub-plot with her dealing with her romantic attraction to her brother was both important and well written, and it ties in so neatly to every other theme about trauma and healing in the manga that if someone misses the point here, I just do not trust that they'll understand anything else this series has to say.

Asking for a friend about the niche fandom draws: She would like something from Shugo Chara- preferably 'The weird crossdressing kid who made all the guys put on girl clothes after they made some sexist comment-it would be really funny if she drew that scene'

this didn't include references but in this one case that's ok because my brain is just as broken as yours and I immediately knew which scene you were talking about. DESPITE the very rude framing because Nagihiko was, dare I say, all in all, maybe the least weird kid on that team. I love them with all my heart.

(I did look it up again and I think the funniest part of all this is that Tadase did not say anything! he was literally just in the same room! and yet he ended up fully in uniform while the other two were still beefing it out. how did that happen)

i keep staring at this merch lineup and not just because i feel like i'm in 2011 again seeing new anime art of these characters after over a decade of nothing. amu, ikuto, and utau make perfect sense to me as "representatives" of shugo chara but why did the people responsible choose to include nagihiko over tadase when tadase is literally the main guy along with ikuto
