Studio 2 - Specialization - Rigging
During the research faze of this study, I learned a lot about rigging and the many thinks that go into it.
The first think i Learned was how to make an apply a basic attribute holder. I did this by following the tutorial on how to make a tank wheel rig provided by SAE. In this tutorial it showed how to make the wheel; by adding multiple copy of on section of the tread and using a line circle it is possible to make the sections rap around the wheel. it is importation to do the math to find out how many sections are needed to make a full wheel. Afterwards all that needed is to transfer the roll function to an outside control by codes and the uses of an attribute holder; this will make it easier to control the wheel as well as animate seeing that all that the animator needs to do is move the controller forwards and to adjust the value of the holder.
next i started with leg rigs. i found 2 tutorials to help with this seeing that the coding on one was out of date. In the leg rigging i learned about IK chains (mainly IK HD chains) for a basic foot rig this a total of 3 IK chains, 4 if you include the knee control. For this you just simple connect all the chains to the appropriate bone (image below) then afterwards you link them to a dummy/helper you will need 1 more helper for the heel roll. then using constraints you can link the rotation to a line circle for the animator to them rotate.
For the Last area I really wanted and found really helpfully is the Arm rigging. In this i was able to replicate an arm rig with FK and IK controls. taking what i had already learned form the leg rig for the IK part in the arm all that i really needed to find out in was FK and blend shapes. FK was a simple Link and lock rotation. where i made 3 control for each joint. The Blend shape part was probable the most helpful part where i learn how to uses constraints and the Attribute holder to make the Main Arm Blend between the IK and FK arms, when you give a bone 2 constraints you can blend between the two. by give this control to a Attribute holder it save the animator time looking in to the bone command panel to change it normally
Overall the tutorials were quite helpful and will help me when making the final rig.
This Playlist From AutoDesk was probably the most useful: Autodesk Learning Learning Channel 2011: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnKw1txyYzRlxh1-BT4CifPXC5TBg2vUd
this link is also from AutoDesk’s channel in the video it show how to IK/FK Blend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8UVIsjskE0&t=178s
I saac Oster was every helpful if the coding was out of date or something wasn’t going the right way with the rig.
