Irish anon here (so afraid of getting off anon tbh...). A lot of Greek retellings I've read seem to show a lot of disrespect to the original source even though that's where it came from. Like... People then were such complicated types and both men and women could be wicked and good as well. They're more gray. So to see it disrespected like that is angering. I stopped reading them with that knowledge, even though, admittedly, I used to read them. Don't even get me started on Lore Olympus (I've seen you talk plenty of that). Ik I bring this up as well, but to add to that, when I see anglo saxons Americans and others try to romanticize the concept of changelings, that ALSO makes me angry because no, people were tortured for being accused of that. I just want to write something based on my culture out of spite against people who misuse it. In fact, any time I see any culture these days disrespected, I get mad. No, this is not me being mean to anyone who take interest in this stuff. I'm not saying they can't. It's good to learn of our culture! But please, to them, they need to at least show respect. Sorry if it sounds like I'm overreacting ^^; I guess it's just nice to meet another who has the same problem and gets it.

Since you mentioned it, I think that Irish folk tale actually concerns a vanishing Island? Not quite the same as a vanishing town or village ik.

While I do live in Ireland (the north still counts, partitionists can shut up and die) I don’t know much about Irish Celtic folklore or mythology.

But I do know about stories of an island called Hy-Brasil. Not quite the same but it’s the closest thing I could think of to what you suggested.

Also I swear Wikipedia mentioned that it was brought up in an episode of Fringe. But I watched the entire series (John Noble was INCREDIBLE in it. He’d be a wonderful Doctor) and it wasn’t even mentioned there once.

Maybe the editor misremembered or I imagined it.

unfortunately you can’t just dismiss the entirety of irish alcohol problems as a ‘stereotype from the english’. Ireland literally has the second highest rate of binge drinking in the World (according to a WHO study) and from a personal standpoint so many of my friends there described experiences with their parents that were Concerning regarding their parents getting piss drunk when kids were in the house etc, stuff that I never heard from american friends, and I don’t think I met a single person who hadnt started drinking before 13 or so. and ik it was college but a lot of people I knew were getting drunk to the point of blacking out or throwing up multiple times per week.

like are the alcohol problems Caused by the mistreatment from the english? it’s almost certainly a factor for sure, and I’m sure there are studies or articles about it. and the ‘irish are alcoholics’ is def used in a patronizing and harmful way, but alcoholism is a real problem in ireland and dismissing it as a bullshit stereotype isn’t going to help anyone really

Okay so William the conqueror got the throne in the battle of Hastings which actually happened in Battle so Battle of Battle tho it’s called Battle because of the battle but anyway he became king and when he died, his oldest son, Robert, didn’t become king of England he became Duke of Normandy and the second son, William I, became king of England. When William died Robert was supposed to become king but the third son, Henry, made some bogus claim about how he was born while their father was king of England, so he was more royal than them. Anyway Henry I’s only legitimate children were a son, William Adelin, and a daughter, Empress Matilda. William died in a shipwreck and Henry decided to be radical and make his daughter his heir. That didn’t go too well, a nephew, Stephen of Blois, claimed the throne while Matilda wasn’t there. This led to the Anarchy which ended with Stephen being king but Matilda’s son, another Henry, being the heir. And then I think it was Henry’s son next (I don’t really remember and this is just what I remember) but whoever he was his name was Richard and he spent like none of his time as king in England. He was Crusading for most of this. Anyway Richard was followed by his brother John, of Robin Hood fame, who lost all the Crown Jewels and was almost replaced by a French prince who the barons (?) summoned to replace him. That didn’t really work out. Then John’s son Henry who I literally don’t know anything about but anyway. His son was named after the king way back before William the Conqueror—Edward. Edward I was known as the Hammer of the Scots bc England and Scotland were at war I think? Idk. I think it was Edward who took Wales bc his son was born in Caernarfon or however you spell it. Edward II was supposed to marry Margaret, maid of Norway, but she died before becoming queen of Scotland, so you know. I lose track of what happens after that.

- hm, i know these for a fact; Hyena [female, adult], Fruit Bat [female, teenish, just not fully grown], Mink [adult], Border Collie [Male, adult], the only theriotype of mine with a name is the hyena who goes by phi (pronounced fee)

- yup yup! fav thing in the world to regress around someone who won't be weirded out by it too

- Spotted Hyena, Coyote, DOG. (Border Collie, Rottwiller, Irish setter, Yakutian Laika), Tanuki, and a few fiction hearttypes (just one)

- Around others at home? not much, but when im by myself, very very often, it's why when i plan on being home alone i hide things before everyone leaves, enrichment for the silly dog brain

- uhhhhh, i love looking for things more then anything in the world, looking for info, looking for items, looking for people. When I realise im actually looking for something, my human brain practically disconnects and my silly born and bred search and rescue border collie brain kicks in and i will stop at very little things to find it. the little things ofc being orders from people I like, bc i like them and theres a chance I could get more things to look for

pyro tf2 thoughts

okay i have soso many thoughts abt pyro tf2 on. daily basis beacuse they’re my fav ever methinks BUT. most o this is just stuff. i pulled outta my ass because for a character whos got like. extrordinarily minimal actual cannon information abt them you gotta take liberties. ANEYWAYS. its just me personal thoughts so idc if ppl hav other hcs for them theyre one of the most playdough-able characters an i love seein the dif interpretations of them! but! ya!

Gonna start off w that i hc them as amab nonbinary! and ik thats a fairly popular hc from ppl but idk ive seen it taken in a dehumanizing path or “omg ur nonbieney? *eyes*” kind of way and. idk it makes me angry and as a nonbinary person myself and i just want to project/ have something to relate to w my favorite fictional character. i will kill violently.

also in the same vein to ppl who go “waoooswassa pyro tf2 baby omg… my scrumbly my squiggles” or whatever ppl do to fictional characters i have so much rage in my bones from that. Pyro is a grown person who can obv take care of themself and it makes me so mad when ppl just. equate them to somebody whos going to kill everyone if another merc (always engineer which. is another tangent of mine but i’ll get to that later) isn’t watching over them. it just makes me mad that ppl will see the meet the pyro vid and just go. okay yeah and thats them forever. when they cut off soldiers hand in the back of the car because its funny to do and there are no repurcussions because soldier is comedic character #1 and nothing bad ever happens to him smile.

delving way into the hcs side of things tho i think pyro is irish/mexican! in the 1820′s irish ppl immigrated there and ik tf2 takes place 1968 so like. way after that but! if they did whatever to australia i can hc pyros dad as irish and their mother as mexican gobless. They all moved 2 somewhere up in the Montana-ish area when Pyro was pretty young to become cattle ranchers though! (my agriculture classes implanted thoughts in my brain forever and i am constantly compelled to talk abt cattle so. yippee! pyro now knows about how to take care black angus cattle!)
