Titans 3.06

y’know, i was just thinking the other day that 1.06/1.07 and 2.06/2.07 were the best episodes of their respective seasons, so i have great hopes going in to this one. fingers crossed!

as always, typing this up as i see the episode.

SPOILERS AHEAD

1. oh! um... that was a Cold Open, all right. *nudges* get it? cold? because it’s snowing? and two people got murdered in cold blood? eh?

... oh, i’ve just started.

1.5. i wonder if “i want to be sipping pina coladas on a beach with you” is the new “i’m just one day away from retiring.” i was so on edge after that--i kept expecting that car to explode. even so, the way they died wasn’t an anticlimax: brutal, and quick. 

1.75. so i’m assuming that’s the titular lady vic! this show better bring up why this doll was important or why these two cops needed to be killed, and not leave it to the ether like jericho’s little mindscape jaunt in 2.08 (i’m still dying to know what that was about???)

i love how deliberately unappealing wayne manor is.

2.3. i love the many references to “home” and “our house” when they’ve been here for less than a week and saw one of their friends get blown into pieces. i mean, i unironically love it: home is where family is, after all!

2.5. i’d like to say that kom is playing some sort of long game here, especially given the build-up we had last season and some of the more niggling details this season: why did kom choose now to use her bond to lure kory when she’s been on earth for months? why did justin call kory now, just around the time that she started getting kom’s visions? and what about kom’s ability to exactly imitate other people? hmmm.

2.75. the reason i wrote i’d like to say is that i’ve made the mistake of assuming plot complexity where there is none; i was so invested in the jason todd orchestrated his own death theory for instance, when it turns out that oops! ra’s al ghul just happened to leave a little lazarus puddle in gotham, and oh yeah! scarecrow just happens to have a network of henchmen working for him on the outside and a fully functional laboratory and a weapons cache fit for a new supervillain in the basement of the high security psychiatric unit/prison that he’s in! 

(no i’m not bitter, why do you ask)

2.8. iiiii don’t know what to say about the implications of sex slavery being a thing on tamaran, so i’m not going to say anything at all. for now.

3. gotham, six years ago... wasn’t it five years before s2 that jericho died and the titans disbanded? and when was the flashback from 1.06 where dick let zucco die? i think it was after the events of 2.08: jericho? i can’t seem to find any transcripts or reliable information online, so i’m going to have to rewatch 1.06 at some point.

3.5. “security is a joke... it’s my way of keeping my dad on his toes”. what you’re an ethical thief now, like an ethical hacker? i don’t think that excuse is going to sell, barbara, on the day you do encounter a decent security system and your father is forced to arrest you.

(then again, gotham’s security is piss-poor. did you know that you could just walk into arkham asylum without any official clearance, ply one of its most dangerous inhabitants with contraband, and said inmate could get away with having an entire laboratory and weapons cache--NO I’M NOT GOING TO LET THIS GO)

3.8 so that flashback between dick and barbara was really cute! and also illuminating:

a) dick sounds so light, so... um. look. i have some apologies to tender to mr thwaites, because while i’ve always thought he does a fine job as dick grayson, i’ve never been terribly fond of his cadence as he delivers dialogue. it’s often monotonous, i thought, but then again, he’s usually delivering exposition or dealing with one soul-crushing crisis or the other. so i was pleasantly surprised to hear dick sound so carefree and alive in his conversation with barbara, laughing frequently, his emotions so bare and bubbling to the surface. it’s really a fantastic contrast to the traumatised and world-weary dick grayson that we see now, even more so than the costume department just bunging a backwards-baseball cap on mr thwaites’ head and hoping that will convince us of his relative youth. 

b) and god, when he wakes up from that memory, all alone in his bed, bleeding from bullet holes in his shoulder (bullet holes that are--in a somewhat convoluted way--barbara’s fault)? yikes. it’s great. you have my apologies, mr thwaites!

c) can you imagine dick just... crawling back to wayne manor, trying not to be seen by anybody, shedding his suit and just... collapsing onto his bed without even tending to his wound? the sheer emotional and physical exhaustion of it? 

d) it’s so interesting to see how barbara and dick approach the idea of legacy--a big theme on the show!--in this flashback. barbara is the one bucking the idea that she should follow in her father’s footsteps, while dick seems pretty content with the batman-and-robin setup, and even tries to get barbara to join their team (robin-girl. pfffft). obviously after this several traumatic things happen wherein dick ends up questioning and then resenting his role as robin, his relationship with batman or even returning as a vigilante at all. and barbara... ends up replacing her father as commissioner. it’s tragic, really. 

e) the dynamic between dick and barbara in the flashback reminds me of how it was between dick and donna in 1.08 and even between kory and dick in early s1. it’s like having an older, strong-willed woman by his side means he gives over the steering wheel for a while and lets himself... unspool, a little bit. it’s kinda endearing.

3. you know, we talk about dick and Eldest Daughter Syndrome, and that’s definitely valid, but here gar seems to me the embodiment of it, with all the emotional gardening and firefighting that he’s expected to do. he’s kind of the guy expected to keep his shit together and take care of everyone else while they are falling completely to pieces, unable to carve out time to process his own trauma. he’s also picked up dick’s and kory’s tendencies to bottle up their struggles and shun appearing vulnerable, and he’s struggling in the shadow of both dick and kory undergoing acute crises, his best friend (and frequent confidante) on the other side of the world, and seeing hank die, utterly helpless to stop it. 

i’m glad that he got a chance to tell dick even a smidgeon of what he really feels, and i hope this is at least a semblance of a wake up call for dick to actually sit down and work with the people he repeatedly calls family.

3.5. it’s heartening to see that dick immediately makes it his priority to go talk to gar. but don’t blow off kory in the process, man!

4. i’m really loving this dynamic between kom and conner--i get the idea that both of them consider each other as Unknowns, alien two times over. but conner’s only ever known the titans, who embrace being different, and kom’s only ever known... well. 

anyway, kory is Really Stressed, and honestly? #relatable. 

when you’re forced to bring an estranged family member to hang out with your friends...

4.5. i love that the titans are spending so much time in the kitchen. a real family!

5. jonathan crane is a creep and i absolutely cannot stand him.

5.25. how did he get a whole lab setup (in the basement of a hospital...?) with a bunch of whitecoats to work for him? how did he just waltz into the viewing room of an operation theatre when he’s one of the most wanted men in gotham right now? why is jason wandering around maskless when--presumably--as the adopted son of the most famous person in gotham he’d be a tad more recognisable than your average joe?

why do i expect this show to answer anything anymore?

5.5. that’s not necessarily a criticism, mind; i’ve said since season 1 that titans is very comics-like in this aspect, all about the Aesthetic and the splash-page splendour rather than the niggling unimportant details of how or when the characters got to said location. like. the camera gliding over the operation being set-up, lady vic bursting in and doing her murder dance (imagine the luck of the poor intern who chose this day and this surgery to assist) and jason, shocked and slack-jawed, framed by blood.

5.75. it’s a sobering reminder for jason that, though he chose this path in order to gain control over a world that seemed like it was rapidly spinning out of his grip, he’s only succeeded in handing over even more control to a man with an agenda that is very clearly not aligned with his own. he’s in too far to stop now, though.

5.9. i have a lot more thoughts about jason! saving it up for the end of this recap, though.

6. more kitchen time! i better see dick do some cooking soon...

6.25. so much of dick’s issues have revolved around his relationship with bruce, so it’s completely understandable that in the wake of a huge crisis where bruce literally asks dick to replace him and be a “better” him, dick would default to all the worst things he learned from the man. and i’m glad kory’s having none of it, but come on, guys. the woman’s literally fetched her fratricidal sister out of a hole in the ground with no idea what said sister is going to do next and experiencing a burgeoning sense of guilt far, far beyond her history with the titans, and dick’s too far into his autocolonoscopy that he can’t see that she needs help.

6.5. “he services your urges”--well, as far as we know, kory is the last person he had sex with...

7. “i hope [gar] isn’t angry with me...” SIR! i thought you’d already spoken to him! smh, as the kids say. kory wouldn’t be needing to reassure you if you just took the effort to build two way emotional relationships with the rest of the team. @superohclair​ was taking about dick’s relatively low emotional intelligence? i agree.

7.5. “i got my own problems [...] you and barbara? fix it.” YOU TELL HIM, KORY

8. man i really like this weird, sad tension between dick and barbara--this sense that both of them are approaching the other based on how they remember them and are ultimately disappointed by the truth. barbara thought she could trust dick to... well, be a better batman, but dick has not only failed at that in her eyes, but repeatedly undermined her while exploiting the authority that she gave him. in dick’s eyes, this is nothing like the barbara that he knew, rebellious and ready to do whatever it takes to find something. 

like. this show sometimes really hits me in the chest about the ways it shows kids grow into adults and into caretakers, and the way it’s stop-start, the ways nothing can happen at all for a long time and then it’s Crisis Central all at once and there’s no space to breathe. the weird sort of sadness that comes with nostalgia. 

8.5. oracle name drop! i agree with barbara, any system that can just randomly tap into gotham phonelines is a monster.

8.7. (i don’t know if it’s my imagination, but is dick holding himself... differently in this episode? like that wound is definitely bothering him, and he’s running on fumes)

9. man, that was a really sweet scene between kom and conner. “feeling alien in your own world”... “not quite here nor there”

honestly this team runs on conner and gar’s faith in their value as a family, and it’s a sign of conner’s generous heart that he extends that opportunity to blackfire. this arc of maturation for him, where he’s now able to consciously choose which parts of himself he can use to do the thing he wants to so--save people--has been so fulfilling to recognise. this baby’s grown with the titans! and what he’s learnt is that people can get fucked up, but the titans is a place where they can be fucked up, and grow.

MY MAN CONNER

10. oh man i’m drinking in the gar-dick interaction in this episode like i’m three days into the desert and it’s the only source of water for miles around!

a) gar is absolutely not dealing with dick’s bullshit this episode and I LOVE IT. it’s such a far cry from the man who was idolising dick/robin back in s1 and expecting him to solve all their problems. dick is fallible, dick is fucked up, but he Tries His Best and that’s ok.

b) dick, huffing and puffing through that vent, unable to put any pressure on his left shoulder, trying to have a heart to heart with gar... fuck i love this asshole. 

c) bruce took in a kid who was suffering... “and made him into a weapon”. well. i absolutely agree with dick that it was bruce who put these kids into these horrible situations with him and they came away with a bucketload of trauma to add to the one that they already had. but we know that bruce was really trying with jason, and at the end of s2, dick was coming to acknowledge that bruce had offered him something that wasn’t just darkness. jason’s death and bruce’s reaction to that shattered that fragile progress.

d) “gotham got to me too.” i feel more sympathetic towards dick running off on his own than most, and it’s not just because i’m an unapologetic stan.  we’ve seen before that dick... devolves when overwhelmed, and he lashes out and makes ill thought out decisions and just Does Not Deal. it happened after hearing the news that deathstroke had returned in s2, and it didn’t help that everyone around him was reeling at the news, either. this time, however, he has his salvation in his family, and despite some stupid decisions like running off and kidnapping supervillains without telling his team, he’s been really on the ball this season. thinking clearly and logically, holding it together and working on a plan, thinking two steps ahead of the villains... yes.

e) gar needing to believe that jason isn’t beyond redemption... there’s a lot of blood on his hands, too, from when he was manipulated by cadmus last season. it makes sense why he’d relate to jason’s predicament, and i hope dick picked up on that.

f) my head just added a plaintive ow after dick jumped feet first into the storage room

12. more gar and dick! is it my birthday??!!

(actually, according to the tamil calendar, it is my birthday! my “star” birthday)

12.5. excellent. dick using some implausible training that bruce taught him to solve a mystery? passing some of that knowledge onto gar? that proud smile when he sees gar perfectly execute moves that he taught him? MY HEART IS EXPLODING

13. aw, i love flashback!dick and barbara, they’re so cute <3

13.25. why does it not surprise me that the way he proposes a relationship to barbara is by saying “we make sense”? this guy can deduce exactly who was present where and what weapon they were holding from a garbled audio recording but other times he’s utterly clueless, and that’s a consistent character beat right from s1

13.5. so.... that’s why lady vic has it out for... barbara....? i don’t get it. it’s flimsy. but hey! the fun thing about titans is that i don’t have to get it. the payoff has nothing to do with the plot.

14. i can’t believe that barbara fell for that, but at least that wheelchair fight looked awesome, so.

15. oh yeah, i forgot that red hood bullied the mob into helping him and scarecrow... at least that explains the whitecoats and the elaborate set-up.

15.5. honestly i love how this dynamic between kory and kom is developing, though i wish more of the team would pay attention to it. time to call justin, i think!

16. i wonder what happened after that second flashback where barbara got hurt during that heist. did she give up on doing any more (maybe jim caught her)? was it because dick was called away by bruce and then the titans and got caught up in his own issues? maybe barbara froze him out because she wasn’t looking for the relationship that he was looking for? maybe the idea of doing that with someone turning into batman-lite was just... unappealing? scary?

whatever it is, it doesn’t look like dick ever processed the end of that relationship. it’s very intriguing to see where their dynamic goes next.

17. so.... what, did vic deliver some fear toxin to barbara? i... what?

17.5. and i TOLD YOU that they would never explain that doll or why vic attacked those two cops at the beginning! oh, titans. never change. 

18. did jason just randomly have tim’s restaurant burgled? god, i’m feeling a bit nauseous... are they going to kill tim’s father?

18.25. i feel like the rest of the season is going to wrestle with jason’s culpability in the horrible stuff he’s doing and i’m already seeing that prospect divide fans. on one hand, his story is taking a lot of oxygen away from other equally interesting story arcs, and he’s done some truly awful things, like indiscriminate murder, threatening to kill children, blowing up hank, and potentially killing tim’s parents. 

there’s something to be said for the kind of hold that crane has over him, and the so-called ‘anti-fear’ drug that he keeps plying jason with--he’s alone, drugged almost constantly (to the level of dependence), fresh from the trauma of being bludgeoned to death. he hasn’t conquered fear; he’s ruled by it. on the other hand, given that he’s the one character on the show given an obvious and identifiable ‘mental illness’ arc (maaaaybe dick too), one can argue that it’s irresponsible to show this progress into such violence: jason was vulnerable because he was struggling, and that left him vulnerable, but it took only a push before he became a fucking serial killer.

but that could mean we underestimate the degree of that vulnerability, and the mechanics of this universe where he fell into the clutches of the one supervillain perfectly designed to exploit that vulnerability. that helpless spiral into further and further self-destruction is all too real. it’s valuable to know that someone who has sunk that low can still seek help--actual help--and get it. 

18.5. i don’t know. it’s not a question i’m going to resolve at the end of an overlong recap at 1 in the morning. i don’t believe it’s even a question that titans can resolve. but i am interested in where they’re going next with jason.

19. this episode was genuinely great! i’m pumped for the rest of the season!

Pt. 6: Tagged (Final!)

“TAG!! YOU’RE IIIII…” In your rush, you didn’t see that Bakugou rather easily ducked out of the way before you could tag him, and instead your palm pressed onto someone else’s chest. Blinking, you slowly and reluctantly stared up to see a VERY angry looking Aizawa who glared down at you with his angry, glowing red eyes.

“(Y/N)…”

A gulp was heard from you. Bakugou ALMOST felt sorry for you, but at the same time he couldn’t help but smirk and snicker a bit, especially since this just meant that YOU were the loser in the end.

Nervously, you grinned and held your hands up. “I know you’re mad Mr. Aizawa but to be fair… to be fair… to be fair…” You took a long, dramatic moment of silence before continuing your sentence. “Today was boring as hell. And we needed a goddamn break, so… that’s why I told them all to play tag, it’s all on me. Give me punishment but not them.” Finally, you owned up to starting the game, much to everyone’s surprise. However, of course their respect for you went up a little bit when you took responsibility.

As for Aizawa, he sighed a bit and pinched the bridge of his nose. “While it’s good that you’re owning up to what you started… don’t think this means you’re off the hook for fooling around instead.” He visibly softened but wasn’t going to NOT give you punishment since once again, you completely disobeyed and went against his rules.

“So I’m not in trouble?” You asked with a cheeky smile, even though it just served to irk your teacher. “No. You’re definitely in trouble.” He replied quickly, but he remained calm and unflappable even though you always manage to get under his skin. Sighing, you took that, but to your surprise…

“A game of tag?! Why didn’t anyone tell me?!” All-Might suddenly arrived, and in his heroic form with his trademark smile that never ceased to amaze your classmates.

“A-All-Might?!” You and Midoriya exclaimed in surprise and awe, wondering just when exactly he got here. However, you started to grin now that the ex-hero was here and raised your hand. “Yes! Young (L/N)?”

“Sir… I’m sorry I didn’t invite you. If you were here boy that would have made things a TON more interesting…” You admitted with a smirk, but you flinched when All-Might went into a coughing fit and reverted to his weakened form. Though his attitude remained the same…

“I see… it’s a shame… I used to play that game all the time when I was a school boy… I’m assuming that you brought up this game in hopes of improving on evasive skills while allowing your classmates to utilize their quirks?” The ex-hero asked you, and you just innocently nodded. “Yes sir. That’s exactly why I brought up this game… AND… admittedly I wanted to have some fun… I mean I get that we’re heroes in training and all, but my friends and I needed to have a little bit of fun too.” You added, and the look of understanding on All-Might’s face was all you needed to know that he wasn’t going to be mad at you for it.

“Hm. I see. I suppose you kids ARE still young…” He let out a sigh. “With all the ordeals you’ve had to suffer, this wasn’t a bad idea… I can tell that you all had some fun in this.” All-Might deducted when he saw a few bit of smiles (except from Bakugou and Todoroki of course) and sensed mostly positive and youthful energy from the students.

“EXACTLY.” You smiled and nodded up at the hero, who smiled back at you.

“And how did you fare in this game Young Midoriya?” All-Might then asked his protégé, who perked up and started to sweat a little bit. “Oh… um…”

But then you put your arm around your second best friend with a snicker, “Sorry All-Might… but as soon as I tagged Bakugou, he tagged Greenie here… sure he managed to evade everyone else, at least I think he did, so… meh… he did his best.” You answered for him, much to the green-haired boy’s embarrassment.

“(Y-Y/N)…! Don’t say it like that…” Midoriya blushed, especially with how close you were as you practically hugged him tight. The only thing that alarmed him was the smirk rising on your face. “Hey All-Might… why don’t YOU play with us this time? I lost the first game… but another one’ll do, it’ll be more of a challenge… anything goes…” You suggested, and most of your class all gasped lightly at the idea of another game of Tag when the first one was pretty intense yet thrilling.

“No.” Aizawa said flatly, but All-Might was quick to take up your offer, and in turn he took up his strong form yet again. “An excellent idea young (L/N)!” He exclaimed, and you threw your fists in the air.

“YES! It’s anything goes now! Thirty minutes this time! Mr. Aizawa’s it though! Cuz I tagged him last! Let’s go!” Immediately you took off running, grabbing Midoriya’s hand as he shouted in shock but let you take him away from your teacher. And you were pleasantly surprised to see that many of your classmates were glad to follow you and split up to find someplace to hide.

As for Aizawa. He took a huge sigh, seeing that for once there was nothing he could do, or rather he COULD if he really wanted to but at this moment, secretly he decided that this wasn’t too bad. His students earned a day of playing after everything they’ve been through.

“Use your quirks! Don’t hesitate! And don’t leave yourself wide open!” All-Might called out to the running teenagers but flinched once he felt a hand tap him on the back, and he turned to face the grinning pro-hero.

“Tag. You’re it.” He said, and reacted quick by getting away fast, much to the shock of the ex-hero. However, he nonetheless laughed it off and kept smiling.

“NOW I AM IT!” All-Might declared, which of course startled you and all your friends as everything quickly turned chaotic as soon as he tagged Bakugou and the last thing you remember is that Bakugou proceeded to tag you, and then you tagged Todoroki, and everything went downhill from there…

“TAG! YOU’RE IT!!”

“No I’m not! You’re it!”

“Tag, you’re it…”

“Tag!”

“Tag! You’re it.”

“No You’re it!”

“Tag! You’re it!”

“Now you’re it!”

It was full-on madness, yet you weren’t complaining. However, the last thing you expected was for Present Mic to show up and get tagged by Kaminari. Or for Present Mic to start tagging the teachers in the school, which lead to the students in Class B, Class C, Class D and the General Studies students…

“AHAHAHAHA~! You weren't careful enough~ And now you’re it!” Monoma was the first to instigate the wide-spread game of tag, as he started off by tagging Tetsutetsu, who was all too enthusiastic about the game as he and his classmates started tagging each other, and then some left to tag the students in General Studies...

“TAG YOU’RE IT NOW!”

“Tag! You’re it!”

“HA! Now you’re it!”

“HAHA! I DID THIS! I AM A GOD!!” You cheerfully shouted in between all of the chaos when seeing every student running around in the wicked game you wove, missing the annoyed sigh coming from Shinsou as he stood behind you, along with the very nervous trio of Midoriya, Uraraka, Iida and a perplexed Todoroki watched all of the madness…

5 Hours Later…

Everyone was surprisingly exhausted from all the running around and relentlessly tagging each other, but they came back feeling somewhat happy and partially relieved from one of their only days of free-spirited fun. Especially because they knew that this would be one of their few days of fun since next week will have them go back to training, and probably twice as much homework as punishment from Aizawa.

And on top of that, it turns out there was one winner…

Hagakure. Who wasn’t tagged once because nobody could find her due to her invisibility. “Yay! I won! I won!” The invisible girl chirped, now in clothes that let her be partially seen as she happily cheered with the girls, as the boys all gloomed a little bit.

“She had the best advantage…”

“There’s no way…”

“Any of us could have seen her…”

Sero, Kirishima and Kaminari each muttered a bit in defeat, since they definitely got tagged more than once during the second round of tag. However, both boys still had fun, and secretly wanted to play it again sometime.

As for you…

Needless to say, you definitely got in trouble for starting a game of Tag that spiraled out of control when EVERYONE in UA started participating with the help of All-Might and spread out to the rest of the school. However, because All-Might took responsibility you only thankfully had to do ALL the chores and clean-up in the dorms and everyone’s rooms.

“Hehe… I don’t know why people complain about this, it’s so easy.” You said breezily as you used your telekinesis to easily carry everyone’s trash to throw away, without any effort of course. Something that you never ceased to flaunt to your friends as you happily walked and hummed now that you were finished.

“You played good today!” As soon as you saw Bakugou, you grinned widely at him even though he just growled and glared at you. “Shut up you damn cheater! I wouldn’t have even had to play if you hadn’t tagged me in the first place!!” He shouted angrily, obviously not as happy or relieved as the others since today felt like nothing but a waste of time. In fact, it felt just like elementary school.

“Ah you’re just mad cuz you didn’t win.” You replied neutrally and smirked at the seething blonde.

“That’s coming from the first loser! I did a hell of a lot better than you did! All you did was fuck around!!”

“That’s right, and I loved it! And you know what? I’d do it again!” You stuck your tongue at him, passing by as he huffed in annoyance.

“Idiot…”

“Good night~.” However, you sang-songed to him one last time, almost smirking when glanced at you before scoffing at you.

Smiling, you rolled your eyes. ‘What an ass.’ You thought to yourself, but you were glad to see another friend who wasn’t a frenemy. “Toto!”

“(L/N)”.

“So… did you have fun today?” You asked him that question repeatedly today, and finally he gave you a satisfactory answer along with a little smile and chuckle of amusement.

“More than I thought.” He admittedly calmly, but your reaction was pretty much the opposite as you grinned and laughed triumphantly. “AHAHAHA~! I knew it! I knew I’d get you to have fun somehow!”

“As I recall, you had said that I ‘didn’t know how to have fun’.” His smile turned into a small smirk, causing your eyes to widen in genuine surprise, but your smile returned as you clapped your hands. “Shouto… you son of a bitch you are full of surprises… ha! Well… I can’t tell you how glad I am to hear that. I was hoping you’d be able to loosen up after a dull-ass week of training.” You gave him a thumbs-up and a pat on the shoulder, but you were confused when he looked just a little bit nervous.

“You’re not tagging me are you?” Even though the game was over, he had to ask you. Blinking twice, you burst into laughter, and thankfully to Todoroki you didn’t see him blush a warm pink because he initially thought you were laughing at him.

“Oh God no, no not tonight… I’m in quite a lot of trouble, if I started another game… I mean, it’d be hilarious, but Mr. Aizawa will probably kill me if I started something at this hour.” You nervously admitted, much to your friend’s amusement.

“Good point. Well… thank you for today. I never played Tag until today, it was surprisingly enjoyable. I understand it now.” He politely thanked you, his smile doing something to your chest as you blushed and felt a little bit bashful. “Aww… you’re welcome Toto.” You exchanged smiles and then you giggled a bit.

“We gotta do that AGAIN though.” You declared. Todoroki didn’t complain, in fact his pleased expression was enough for you to know that he was down for that.

“I won’t mind that.” He affirmed for you, making you giggle and clap your hands excitedly, “Yaaaay~. Hee-hee… good night Shouto~.” Waving at him almost flirtatiously, this time you saw Todoroki blush as he smiled at you, almost nervously, yet his reply was still calm. “Good night (Y/N).”

Afterwards, you could go to your dorm-room happy that everyone, well mostly everyone had fun and you got to have the day full of excitement you had been looking for.

“Hey.” And Shinsou sitting in your bed with his casual, lazy demeanor sparked even more excitement in you even though you were secretly surprised. “Hitoshi~!” But you weren’t complaining at all as you quickly flipped your shoes off and plopped right next to him on your bed.

“Today was pretty wild eh?” Giggling, your remote floated over to you and landed right in your hand and shut your door with your mind.

“What do you expect? When you make a plan, everything’s wild.” He replied to you in a deadpan tone, but he did give you a smile to indicate that despite the craziness, it WAS fun. Aside from the way Todoroki looked at you.

“Haha you know it… but it’s cool now… well... since there's no Madison to bother us, thank God... Aristocats?” You smiled at him, getting out the DVD as Shinsou’s smile grew just a little bit more. And it warmed your heart knowing that those smiles were for you, and only you.

“Yes.” Shinsou nodded as you grinned and giddily giggled, happily putting the movie in your player and pressing ‘play’ to start it up. Sitting nice and close to a somewhat flustered, now bashful looking Shinsou.

“Hey… Hitoshi. What is it you wanted to tell me? Before I called Todoroki you looked like you wanted to say something, what was it?” You then asked him because you remembered that Shinsou seemed like he had something to tell you before you got distracted by Todoroki. However, once you brought that back up Shinsou started to blush more than he wanted, and for once he was at a loss for words as he averted your eyes and struggled to come up with an explanation.

“Oh, right... I was only going to say that…” He began slow, which you found a little odd since Shinsou wasn’t the type to be so hesitant, and you had no idea how nervous you were making him with the way your (E/C) eyes practically stared into his soul. Secretly, he thanked all the deities for making you not have the power to read minds, you had a variety of powers but thankfully you weren’t a clairvoyant like Nan, that one witch you often mentioned. As much as he wanted to tell you, something kept him from doing so. Fear? Maybe... 

“Your shoe was untied the whole time.” Shinsou finally settled on a lie, far from his best one but it was all he could come up with on the spot. Blinking, you made a bit of a face. “No it wasn’t…” You were sure that couldn’t have been true, although you didn’t really pay attention to your shoes at the time, but you had no idea that Shinsou was denying that.

“It was at the time. You weren’t paying attention.” You pouted and grunted in light annoyance at the way he smirked at you, now you were starting to think that your best friend had just been messing with you as he often did, but you never really minded. That was just yours and Shinsou's thing. 

"Whatever. The movie's starting." Now it was your turn to smirk as you scooted closer towards him. As your sides touched you hugged his arm and deliberately placed your head on his shoulder purely to fluster him. And you had to resist the urge to snicker when you felt him shaking slightly. Shinsou swallowed hard as his face flushed very hot from the proximity. You little witch...

But instead of shying away, he slowly brought his arm around you, making you nearly jump in surprise as you looked up at him in surprise, purple eyes locked with (E/C) eyes in a stare before he smiled at you, "Tag. You're it." He said to you playfully. His tone causing you to blush as you coyly smiled back at him, and nuzzled into him warmly as the Aristocats' opening song played.

Yesterday was BomBARDed’s first birthday and the discord did a whole cool gift exchange thing. I joined the community too late to be a part of that but everyone’s great work and the podcast gave me a bit of bardic inspiration and I wrote for the first time in a long time.

Chaos Sauce talks birthdays a bit, reminiscing about the past and planning for the future. 

Randy and Raz’ul both looked up in confusion at Yashee’s question. It came completely out of the blue, asking when their birthdays were.

“I just wanna be prepared, y’know!” Yashee defended herself at their skeptical looks. “I don’t want your birthdays sneaking up on me without being able to get you guys a gift or plan a party.”

“You don’t have to worry about all that, Yashee,” Raz’ul told her, though he was smiling softly at her.

“Yeah, it’s not really that big a deal.”

“But I want to!” she insisted. “It’ll be fun, birthdays are great! I wanna hear about your birthdays growing up too!”

“Iiiii don’t know,” Randy wasn’t sure what he would even say to answer Yashee’s questions. He looked over to Raz’ul, wondering how he felt about this. Raz’ul didn’t seem as skeptical, but he wasn’t jumping to regale them with tales of his youth either.

“I can go first!” Yashee offered. “I mean, if you guys are actually okay with this. Like, it’s not a sore subject is it?”

“No! No, it’s fine,” Raz’ul was quick to assure her before turning to Randy.

“Go ahead,” Randy shrugged.

Yashee’s birthday was March twentieth.

“First day of spring!” Raz’ul pointed out with a smile.

Yashee returned his smile with her own toothy grin. That was what her dad always said, that Yashee brought spring with her when she was born. And because of the start of the season, they would always spend the morning picking flowers together, and arranging them into bouquets to decorate whatever space they were celebrating in. And she would spend the day with her family, singing and dancing and eating.

Sometimes, she told them, it was just her and her parents. They were on the road a lot in her youth after all; they weren’t always able to celebrate with other people. But sometimes they managed to plan it out, such that they were in one of her parents’ home towns for the day, and they could have a huge party with her extended family. No matter what though, it was always a lot of fun and food and noise.

She told them about her father braiding fresh flowers into her hair, of setting up impromptu wrestling tournaments with her cousins, of playing music with and for her family, having music played for her. Despite his hesitance, Randy was overjoyed that he had agreed to this conversation thread. Yashee was animated and exuberant, obviously having a great time recalling all these memories and sharing them with him and Raz’ul. And she beamed every time one of them would interject with a comment of their own. At one point Raz’ul said he would love to braid flowers into her hair, and Randy was pretty sure the only time he saw her happier was when they convinced Drew to trade Sandy for a song.

After a while, she stopped recounting stories, looking somewhat sheepish. “Sorry, I went on for a bit there, huh?”

“Don’t worry about it, Yashee!” Raz’ul told her. “It was nice to hear!”

“Yeah, it clearly means a lot to you.”

“Yeah, but I wanted to hear from you guys! What are your birthdays like?”

Raz’ul turned to Randy with a questioning look, which Randy answered with a “go ahead” gesture. Raz’ul shrugged and faced forward to start talking.

Raz’ul’s birthday was November sixth. It was a time, he said, that depending on the year could give him an autumn or a winter birthday. He told them about quiet walks through the forest, red and gold leaves surrounding him on the trees and crunching beneath his boots. Or days in Mount Tain, going outside and watching the snow fall across the range.

Apparently, while he was with Reed, his birthday was hardly different from any other day. A small gift from Reed, and a slower day perhaps, but otherwise the same schedule of travel and lessons. Raz’ul smiled fondly as he told them how sometimes he would give in to one of Raz’ul’s requests for insight into Reed’s past, or for lessons on things too advanced for him to be learning. It was a quiet and simple time, but a good one.

Further back in his past, he would have parties in the mountain. He kept trying to avoid talking about how many people were there, but Randy got the idea that they were pretty big affairs. There was music and dancing and food and generally a lot of fun. It sounded like there was also some level of stress and discomfort involved in the whole thing, though Randy couldn’t work out exactly why. Raz’ul shied away from that though, so he and Yashee let him.

He told them about reaching dwarvish milestones. How some years, before the party, his brothers would collect him and send him on a rite of passage. When he first grew a beard long enough, they put a braid in it and gave him his first bead; Raz’ul’s fingers absently twirled at one of the beads in his beard and Randy wondered if it was the same one. He recounted climbing the mountain, higher than ever before, and travelling deeper into the mines than he’d ever been and learning of the most protected ore deposit under the mountain.

Or some years, he smiled, there wasn’t anything like that; it was just a year. His brothers would just spend the day with him, gently teasing him for various things, and playing games from their childhoods. Randy glanced at Yashee and shared a smile with her. The only thing they’d previously known about Raz’ul’s brothers was what Squid Vicious had dragged out of his mind. It was nice to hear him talk about them on his own terms, and to see him smile as he did so.

Raz’ul didn’t really acknowledge it when he was done sharing, at some point he just slowly trailed off, wearing a peaceful smile.

Randy enjoyed hearing these stories from his friends. They didn’t get many chances to talk about their pasts, and it was nice to know they could both smile about it. Sometimes he thought about how little he knew of their lives before Strumlott’s, and worried they were full of pain and sorrow. But from these anecdotes, he now knew there was at least some good. He was glad; they both deserved that.

“What about you, Randy?”

“What?” Yashee’s question pulled him from his mind and he looked up to see both his bandmates looking at him curiously.

“Isn’t it your turn now?” Raz’ul gently elbowed him. “When’s your birthday?”

“I…” Randy hesitated. It had been a long time, to say the least, since he celebrated his birthday, since he was in a position where he could. And it was a genuine shock when he realized, in that moment, that he was in that position again. He thought back, trying to remember the month and the day. He wasn’t very good with numbers, but surely the name of the month was somewhere in his mind. Yashee and Raz’ul were looking at him with patient but expectant looks, and he had no answer. “Um, summer.”

“What, the whole season?” Yashee joked with a crooked grin. “That must have been some celebration!”

“C’mon, man, seriously. When’s your birthday?”

“I- don’t know.”

Raz’ul continued to smile for a moment, like he still thought it was a joke. After looking at Randy’s own solemn face for a moment, it began to slip. “Wait, really?”

“Yeah, I mean… It’s not like the Nowhere Man really even talked about birthdays, let alone celebrate them. And afterwards… I was on my own and usually had more important things to worry about than my birthday.”

He realized he was staring at his hands. After all their happy stories and memories, he found he didn’t want to meet their gaze while he told them he didn’t even remember when his birthday was. The thumb of one hand rubbed against the index finger of the other, and he watched the movement while he waited for one of his friends to say something.

Neither of them did. Eventually, Randy couldn’t take it any longer and looked up, glancing at each of them in turn. Raz’ul looked sad and confused; he was having trouble grasping the idea of forgetting something like that. Yashee however, looked positively devastated. She stared at him, looking like she was about to cry.

“That’s… really sad, man.”

“I-” Randy paused, not sure he wanted to continue that sentence. Not for his sake so much as for his friends’. I was more concerned with staying alive. With Yashee’s expression right now, he didn’t think he wanted to drop that on her, even if she might suspect it already. “I guess.”

“Well, I guess that just means… it means you get to pick your birthday now.”

“What?” Randy looked up at Raz’ul. Pick his birthday? A birthday was- well it was a day, a day you were given, he supposed. Picking it out yourself was just outlandish.

“Yeah!” Yashee perked up a bit at Raz’ul’s suggestion.

“You need a birthday,” Raz’ul insisted. “It’s not fair that because you had a rough past and forgot it because you were focused on surviving, you never get to celebrate yourself. A birthday is, like, your day. You deserve to have one.”

“Yeah!” Yashee’s exclamation was even louder this time, and she was back to her cheery, energetic self. “What’ll it be, Randy? If it’s summer, that gives you a few months to work with. Maybe June, July or August?”

“I… don’t know.”

“I’ve always liked June,” she leaned back on her hands and looked at the ceiling dreamily. “It’s the beginning of summer, I guess. Everything that comes with summer is just blooming and coming into season, it’s never too hot. It’s nice!” she looked back down at Randy with a grin.

“July is right in between March and November,” Raz’ul offered when he remained silent. “You could have a birthday comfortably sandwhiched between ours.”

“Oh! I like that!”

“Yeah,” Randy responded quietly. It seemed like this was happening, no matter how strange he found it. He might as well agree to something. “Yeah, I like that too.”

“Alright! Now you just need to pick a day!”

“Umm…” Randy wasn’t good at numbers. He could just say any random number he knew, but he got the feeling they would ask why he chose it.

“What’s your favorite number?” Raz’ul asked.

The first number that came to his mind as an answer was twenty. It was the highest number he could count to without extended effort. But it was also the day of Yashee’s birthday. Even if they were several months apart, it felt like stealing something from her, and he didn’t want to steal from Yashee.

He looked around at his friends as he thought. They were both looking at him with patient smiles, letting him pick a day without any further input. He looked at them both and thought about the three of them sharing stories and memories, good times and joys as well as perils and fears. He looked at them and felt safe.

“Three. My favorite number is three.”

“That’s settled then. Your birthday is July third,” Raz’ul put his hand on Randy’s shoulder and smiled. “Gives us a bit of time to plan a good party for you.”

“Yeah, we’ve gotta give you a really good one to make up for all the ones you missed!”

Randy smiled at them and felt his cheeks warm. “Thanks, you guys.”

“Of course! I’d never stand for you being left out of the celebrations!” Yashee puffed her chest out a bit in her enthusiasm. A glance at Raz’ul showed that he once again had a curious look on his face. There was another small moment of comfortable silence before he spoke on it.

“What about before?” Randy raised an eyebrow in a silent question, not understanding. “Before the Nowhere Man, I mean. Like, do you have birthday memories from before? With your family?”

“I-” Randy thought back, trying to pull the memories up. He knew he remembered, at least something, but he kept a lot of that locked away. Even the happy times he could remember with his family, they hurt sometimes to think about. “I think it was usually quiet. My parents would make me whatever I wanted to eat. I think my mother baked, she would make a cake, and my father would cook the meal. I’m pretty sure I remember decorating the cake myself at least once with my-” he caught himself. He didn’t know if he was ready to talk about that. “My family.” If Raz’ul and Yashee noticed the skip in his words, neither of them said anything.

Randy knew that Joby Bear was sitting next to him on the sofa, and a part of him wanted to pull him to his chest and hug him. But he was worried that would give something away. Something he wasn’t ready to give away yet. He settled on running his thumb over his finger again.

“Yeah, I- I don’t know. I don’t think I remember any specifics, other than that. But, I guess… I remember being happy. That’s the important thing, right?” he pulled his eyes away from his hands and looked between his friends once more.

“Of course! I’m glad you’ve got some happy birthday memories!”

“Yeah, and hopefully you’ll make some more with us come summer.”

“I’m sure I will.”

“July third! Don’t forget this one!” Raz’ul pointed at him with mock seriousness.

Randy rolled his eyes and laughed.

It had been a few months since the war ended and you were returned to your world. Much to your delight, when you made the trip back, Alfonse was convinced last minute to go with you. Having him there with you was like a dream come true, and it didn’t hurt that his reactions to your more modern standards of living gave you quite a laugh. You could still remember his fascination with being in a car, as well as how with the touch of a few buttons on your phone, you could have food brought to you in a matter of minutes, rather than having to go out and get it yourself.

The holidays were fast approaching, and your parents thought it to be the perfect time to meet this “new” guy in your life. When you told Alfonse about it, he agreed to meet them, but surprisingly, he seemed to genuinely look forward to it, and wasn’t nervous about it at all. You? As much as you wanted him to meet your family, you were worried. How would you guys explain that he was a prince from another world? Would you have to make something up in order for your parents to not incessantly question him? You made Alfonse aware of your concerns, and while he admitted that the thought crossed his mind as well, he encouraged you not to stress out about it.

Alfonse slowly opened his eyes as the sun rose. Christmas had arrived, and with it, this would be the day he met your family. He sat up in the bed, stretching his arms out and letting out a small yawn. He glanced down to the other side of the bed, noticing that you weren’t there. It was a rarity that you would be awake before him, but given the occasion, he was sure there were some things you wanted to take care of before you left.

“Oh, good, you’re up!”

He looked up to find you standing in the doorway. It looked as though you were already done getting ready, the loose curls in your hair falling along your shoulders and onto the red sweater you were wearing. As he stood, he studied the sweater a bit more. Was that white design in the center the symbol of Askr? He didn’t think the clothing of this world had that design available.

“The shower’s all yours, but before you head in there, I have a present for you!” You spoke, turning around and going back into the living room. When you returned, a small, wrapped up box was in your hands, and you held it out to him. He tore off the wrapping paper, opening the box to find a sweater with the Askran symbol in the front similar to yours, but in green. “An old friend of mine’s parents own a clothing store, so I got in touch with them and asked them to make these sweaters for us. Do you like it?”

“I do.” He smiled, leaning in and kissing your forehead. “Thank you for this. I deeply apologize for not getting you anything.”

“Aw, don’t worry about it, Al!” You laughed, sliding your arms around his torso. “Just having you here with me is enough of a present.”

You let go of him, allowing him to grab some more clothes and make his way over to the bathroom. You walked into to the kitchen, scrolling through your phone for some music to listen to while you waited for him. Once you found a playlist you were happy with, you set it down and opened some cabinets, looking for ingredients.

After showering and getting dressed, Alfonse stepped out of the bathroom to find quite the sight. There was some music playing in the kitchen, and you were quickly moving all throughout the apartment, dancing along to the sound. There was also a rather sweet and pleasant scent coming from the kitchen, and as he tried to identify what it was, you were suddenly right in front of him, taking his hands in yours.

“I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know...!” You sang, and rather off key at that, but he found it endearing. You let go of his hands, wrapping your hands around the back of his neck and pressing your forehead against his. “Make my wish come truuuuuue, baby all I want for Christmas... iiiiis... yooooouuu...!”

As hard as he tried, Alfonse couldn’t hold back the laughter that escaped his mouth. You knew you probably looked ridiculous, but you didn’t care all that much, and he loved that about you.

“.... You used up most of the hot water again.” He told you, choosing not to comment on your spontaneous performance.

“Had you woken up in time to join me, you wouldn’t have that problem.” You sassed before leaning in, briefly peck his lips with yours.

“Are you ready to go?” He asked. Before you could respond, he heard a small ding coming from the kitchen.

“Almost!” You called to him as you ran over to the kitchen. You switched the oven off and slipped on some mittens, opening the door and pulling out two trays of cookies, setting them on the counter and shutting the oven door. After waiting for them to cool down a bit, you put them in a container, closing the lid to it and slipping your phone in your pocket.

“So that’s what that smell was...” Alfonse figured out, picking up the container and following you out of the apartment.

“Okay, let me see if I remember correctly.” Alfonse pondered while in the car with you on the way to your parents house. “You have... three siblings?”

“Bingo.” You replied. “Can you remember their names and our birth order?”

“Hmm... I believe you told me they were named Iris, Julian, and Leah. Iris and Julian are twins, and they were born before you were. Your parents had you third, and then Leah a few years later?” He guessed.

“Wow, I’m impressed, Alfonse!” You praised him, taking one hand off the steering wheel to pat him on the shoulder. “Iris’s husband had trouble remembering all of that when we first met him. My parents never let the poor guy hear the end of it. I’m surprise they didn’t try to stop the wedding.”

Alfonse let out a nervous chuckle as you told him this, hoping to make a better first impression on your family than your brother-in-law did. For the rest of the car ride, you alternated between little chats about minor subjects to singing along to more Christmas music. When you arrived at the house, Alfonse had to take a minute to marvel at its size. While it didn’t look that expensive in nature, it was rather enormous. He still couldn’t take his eyes off it, even after being handed some presents to take inside. Before he knew it, you were both at the front door, knocking on it and waiting for a response.

“Oh, it took you guys long enough to get here!” Your mother somewhat scolded you as she answered the door, pulling you into a hug.

“Nice to see you too, mom.” You laughed, returning her hug. When you pulled away, all of her attention was on Alfonse, and the two shook hands after he handed you the presents.

“Kiran’s told me so much about you.” She said. “As long as you’re nothing like the guys she’s brought home before, we’ll get along just fine.”

“Err... Well, we are still together, so I don’t believe I am.” He stammered, stifling laughter.

Your mother then led you two into the house, announcing your presence. Your father stood from a couch in the living room, wrapping his arms around you after you set the presents down by the tree. He had always doted on his children, even when you would all insist that you were getting a bit too old for it. As you pulled away from his hug, you watched him glance over at Alfonse, eyeing him up and down.

“So, you must be the reason my daughter went missing for a while.” He bluntly addressed the prince, taking him by surprise.

“I... I... Sir, I can promise you she was—“

“Well, technically his boss was the one responsible for that.” You interrupted them, laying a hand on Alfonse’s back and rubbing it. You knew your father was just making a joke, but neither you nor Alfonse found it funny.

“Matching sweaters?” You heard a voice emerge from nearby. You looked to find your older sister and her husband stepping into the living room and approaching you. “Oh, how adorable!”

“It was her idea.” Alfonse chuckled, scratching the back of his head. “I presume you are Iris?”

“That would be me!” She confirmed. “This is Mark, and I couldn’t pay him to match clothes with me. Oh, you have to let me get a picture of you guys!”

She then pulled her phone out, accessing the camera and holding it up in front of the two of you. You slid closer to Alfonse, letting him put an arm over your shoulders. You rested your hand on his chest, smiling for the picture. Once Iris got her picture of you guys, she gave both of you a hug, walking back to where she was before. Mark stayed in the room with you and Alfonse, and it was then that you saw your brother sitting with your younger sister on the couch, signaling all of you to join them.

“You made it just in time for the game, sis!” He greeted you, first bumping with you as you and Alfonse sat down beside him. Your brother looked over at your boyfriend on the other side of you, holding his hand out. “I’m Julian, by the way.”

“Nice to meet you, Julian.” Alfonse acknowledged him, shaking his hand. “I’m Alfonse.”

You looked over on the other side of your brother, noticing that your sister didn’t seem to notice your presence, all of her focus being on whatever was on her phone. In all honesty, this didn’t surprise you, although you would have liked some acknowledgement. You extended an arm behind Julian, your hand landing on your sister’s shoulder, causing her to jump out of her seat and dart her eyes over at you.

“Hi, Leah.” You greeted her, a hint of sass in your voice. “It’s good to see you. This is Alfonse, by the way.”

“Hi... Sorry about that.” She sheepishly responded. “Nice to meet you.”

“So, what do you guys think?” Mark chimed in. “We winning today?”

“Dude, we’ve got this game in the bag. Best Christmas present I could ask for.” Julian replied. “Oh, you a basketball fan, Alfonse?”

“I... Well... I must be honest. I’m not too familiar with it.” Alfonse confessed, pursing his lips together awkwardly.

“No worries, bud. We’ll explain it to you as it goes on.” Mark assured him, patting him on the shoulder.

At one point, you got up to get everyone some food. Approaching the kitchen, your parents and Iris were in there discussing various topics when they turned their attention over to you.

“Getting tired of the boys?” Iris asked you. “I don’t blame you.”

“No, I’m just getting some food for all of us.” You laughed. “Julian and Mark seem pretty wrapped up in teaching Alfonse about sports, so I didn’t want to interrupt them.”

“He doesn’t know about sports?” Your father gawped. “Where’d you find this guy? The renaissance fair?”

“Honey, be nice!” Your mother scolded him, elbowing him in the arm.

While you weren’t angry with your father’s joke, you didn’t find it funny either. You chose not to acknowledge it, gathering some plates and putting food on all of them. Upon returning to the living room, you glanced at the TV, seeing that one of the guys on the team you were rooting for shot a massive three-pointer. Your brother and brother-in-law immediately jumped from the couch, joyfully shouting in response. Alfonse remained seated, but threw his arms up in celebration. You let out a small giggle at the sight, approaching the men and Leah and handing them each a plate. Mark had taken your spot while you were gone, so sat in between Alfonse’s legs, putting a hand on his knee.

“You seem to be learning pretty quickly.” You acknowledged, turning around to look at him.

“That’s because your brother and I are great teachers.” Mark boasted, a smirk on his face. “Maybe next time we’re all together we’ll get you out on one of the courts, Al?”

“I don’t know if I can do what they do...” Alfonse told him.

“None of us can.” Julian assured him. “Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it.”

From there, you all turned your focus back to the game, and occasionally your food. Your father would probably take a longer time getting used to having Alfonse around during family gatherings, but your mother and your siblings, as well as your brother-in-law, seemed to be getting along with him pretty well. You had been so worried about what everyone would think of him in the days leading up to this, and it brought you immense joy to see things go so well. You weren’t sure if you could love him more than you already did, but seeing him interact with your family certainly did that for you.

It was now early in the evening, and everyone found themselves sitting together in the living room. Presents had been opened, everyone had at least one serving of food, and now you were all taking the time to relax amongst each other. You rested your head on Alfonse’s shoulder, while he had an arm around you, stroking your arm. You looked up at him, a warm smile plastered on your face as you studied his features.

“Did you have a good time today?” You asked him, getting his attention as he turned his head to look at you.

“Of course I did.” He smiled. “Your family has been quite nice and very welcoming. I expected everyone to be rather protective of you; not just your father.”

“He’s always been like that.” You told him. “He still gives Mark a hard time when he can, but that doesn’t excuse how he’s been treating you. I’m really sorry about that.”

“What do you apologize for? It’s not as though you told him to act that way.”

“I know, but—“

“You are his daughter, of course he’s going to want to protect you.” Alfonse stated. “As you remember, I lost my father when I was fairly young, so I don’t remember much of his interactions with Sharena. However, I could still see it in the heroes that had daughters as well. Chrom would often speak of how afraid he was to let Lucina battle on her own, despite her having done so countless times.”

You tried to open your mouth to speak, but he continued.

“Yes, there is a huge difference between being on a battlefield and being in a courtship, but no father ever wants to see his daughter get hurt, whether the wounds are physical or emotional. However, I have no intention of hurting you, Kiran. I love you too much to even dream of such a thing. Your father might not see that now, or for a while, but it is what’s in my heart. I love you, Kiran, and I intend to love you until my death.”

Your smile grew brighter at his words, warmth seeping into your heart. You knew how much he loved you, and you loved him just as much, if not more. However, you had no issue with him reminding you of his love for you.

“You’re pretty all right.” You joked, hearing him chuckle in response.

You briefly looked up to find that you were under a mistletoe together. You pointed this out to him, your heart fluttering as he cupped your face with one hand. You both leaned in until your faces were inches apart, your lips softly pressing against his for a tender kiss. You rested your forehead against his upon pulling away, the happiness in his eyes matching yours.

“You know, you could get a room.”

You both turned your heads to see Leah sitting beside you, glancing up from her phone to tell you this. You then looked back at each other, laughing.

Day 1

I want to try and like, sort of make a diary(?) of my BotW journey because I want to post my screenshots and say random dumb comments I had so yeah, here we go; it’s probably gonna get long so sorry! (I swear I’m funny, she says, writing down captions under some of the screenshots)

(it’s messy but I’m literally going by chronological order of my screenshots for my comments lmao)

Total hours played: 11 hours

I didn’t take pics before that one bc I was too embarrassed bc I tend to screenshot way too much for it to be normal and mom was with me; still a fucking beautiful landscape

The first thing I did after that was climbing up the rocks behind me because I really wanted to know if we could go up there and yes we can and I also found out Link hangs out of the top of trees in a totally adorable way, looking far away in the distance

Then I went to see the old man and Link decided it was time for Olympics

(which only led him to burn himself on the fire grass, woops)

I wandered around after that, took a drama screenshot

After that I tried to go on with the main quest (so the tower, then shrines to complete so you get the old man’s paraglider)

Had my first game over falling down the rocky wall I was trying to climb

I died climbing/unclimbing like 7 times total at least, which makes it my most likely way to die so far. Other deaths have been: OHKO by a blue bokoblin, exploded myself with a bomb bc I didn’t respect the security distances, and touched iced water in a lake. What we learn from this is that Link is his own greatest opponent

I have come to discover that Link likes to read on tables. Yes, on tables. Standing up on them. Totally makes it easier to read, I’m sure

Anyway so yeah went back to the main quest, did the three shrines of the Great Plateau and unlocked the old man’s tragic backstory 

(When you blink on every photo ever taken of you) (also wth they literally lET LINK DIE and then they kept him in magical water for 100 years so he would resurrect; Zelda confirmed necromancer)

After that I exited the Great Plateau for better amazing adventures, yaaaay! Oh, and I met Spock(?)

I also discovered along the way that, Link is fucking short compared to like everyone but kids, it’s amazing. Short Hero

After this I found a horse house (stable???? what is english, I’m too lazy to check words woops) and found the most handsome boy ever

look at him, he’S BEAUTIFUL AND HE CHASES HIS TAIL AND HE ROLLED ON THE FLOOR FOR ME AND-- AND I DONT KNOW HOW TO INTERACT WITH HIM MY HANDS ONLY CARRY WEAPONS, MY HANDS ARE NOT MADE FOR SUCH A SOFT CREATURE but standing next to him seemed to please him so there’s that but you feel awful for not being able to pat ok

After that I went ahead and got myself a horse, the first one being this beautiful boy, Georges

Georges is emo, don’t judge him, he’s been through rough times ok

Then I got greedy and got another horse, Roger

He’s pink and I love him

Went on with my trip, heading for the Kakariko village with Roger (though I decided to wait for the next morning bc a blood moon happened and I got scared <33)

Arrived in Kakariko, found an old lady called Bah Nahna and it took me more than I’d like to understand the pun

Wandered around in Kakariko, became poor because I bought a cape

Anyway so after getting a bit of colors, I headed to the shrine in the town aaaaaaannnnd this officially called my bedtime

It was past midnight, it’s using the gyroscope of the Joy-Con and I fucking hate this kind of games because I literally can’t use the gyroscope on any device :)))) Also I’ve been awake since 4am so I really need sleep anyway, especially if I gotta deal with this shit later................. anyway

11 hours of play and I’ve had a looooot of fun, especially that time the door closed itself right under Link’s nose when he tried to get out lmao

So far, so good! I like the game and it’s super pretty and during the cutscenes it’s always fun to recognize melodies in the ost!!! ALSO I’m playing in French so with French dubbing and I quite like it so far??? It’s not bad and also I was happy to hear some of the lines that were said in the story trailer!!! and hearing them with the character’s face was amazing because you’re like “holy shit tHIS IS REAL” :’)
