     𝘀𝗵𝗲  𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹  𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘁  𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁  𝘀𝗵𝗲  𝗶𝘀  𝗻𝗼𝘁  𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝘁𝗼  𝘁𝗵𝗲  𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁  𝗼𝗳  𝗵𝗲𝗿  𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆,     she  had  just  lost  her  home  and  a  lot  of  her  people  were  gone  and  learning  what  happened  to  hilltop  was  just  another  devastating  blow.     plus  she  had  never  expected  to  see  negan  out  of  that  cell.     maggie  needed  to  get  out  of  her  own  head,  think  about  her  people  and  make  things  right  with  those  she  has  long  standing  relationships  with,  especially  carol.     being  back  in  alexandria  felt  so     𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲     after  all  these  years,  it  was  both  familiar  and  unfamiliar  at  the  same  time.     so  much  had  changed  and  so  much  was  the  same.     maggie  didn't  ever  think  she  would  be  back  this  way,  but  she  would  always  have  wanted  to     𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽     them  if  they  needed  it.     she  just  also  had  to  take  care  of  herself,  her  own  family  and  the  people  who  looked  to  her.

     𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵  𝘄𝗮𝘀  𝘄𝗵𝘆  𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿  𝘁𝗵𝗲  𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸  𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗲  𝗼𝗳𝗳,     she  had  come  to  understand  exactly  why  carol  had  done  what  she  had.     she  couldn't  predicted  what  might  have  happened,  no  one  could  have  and  it  was  unfair  of  her  to  even  put  any  sort  of     𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗲     onto  carol.     anything  could've  happened  to  hilltop  in  the  years  she  was  away  and  there  was  nothing  to  say  that  if  she  had  been  here,  the  same  wouldn't  have  happened.     approaching  carol  with  a  small  smile,  she  didn't  want  to  fight  with  anyone,  especially  not  carol,     "     i  wanted  to  apologise,     "     maggie  admitted  softly,  looking  around  for  a  moment  before  focusing  back  on  carol,     "     i  understand  why  you  did  what  you  did,  after  everything  that  happened.     i  let  my  emotions  get  the  better  of  me,     "     she  was  going  to  have  to  try  get  some  semblance  of  control  over  her  emotions,  especially  if  she  was  going  to  be  here  long  term  and  she  needed  to  just  keep  it  together.     but  after  everything  that  had  happened  in  meridian,  learning  about  what  had  been  going  on  here  and  seeing  it  all  for  herself,  maggie  felt  like  she  was  close  to  cracking  a  little,     "     i'm  not  mad  at  you,  i  promise  you  that,     "

     𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘆  𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁  𝘀𝗮𝘆  𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝗳𝗼𝗿  𝗮  𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁,     having  overheard  the  conversation  between  lydia  and  her  dad,  not  letting  herself  be  seen  and  as  much  as  she  knew  lydia  was  speaking  from  a  place  of  hurt,  it  was  a  true  sentiment.     as  much  as  tilly  would've  fought  over  and  over  to  keep  her  dad  alive,  to  keep  getting  chances  that  it  was  somewhat  debatable  if  he  deserved,  there  was  still  a  lot  of  people  who  wanted  him  dead  too.     she  hadn't  spoken  to  her  dad  since  daryl  brought  him  back  along  with  the  news  that  alpha  was     𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱     and  that  negan  had  been  the  one  to  kill  her.     it  had  been  a  whirlwind  of  emotions  since  the  night  margo  had  died  when  he  had  protected  lydia,  her  wanting  to  run  with  her  dad  and  finding  that  he's  already  gone,  being  unable  to  find  him  alongside  daryl,  dealing  with  rosita  being  sick,  siddiq  being  murdered,  beta  attacking  inside  the  walls,  rosita  getting  hurt  and  needing  to  go  to  hilltop,  getting  stuck  at  hilltop  with  the  impending  attack  coming,  learning  that  her  dad  was  with  the  whisperers,  the  big  fight  to  try  to  defend  hilltop  and  everyone  living  there.     now  she  was  trying  to  keep  herself     𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺     for  anyone  who  needed  it  as  they  tried  to  keep  surviving  against  the  whisperer  hoard,  to  not  worry  too  much  about  the  fact  that  alden  was  out  there  with  aaron.     it  wasn't  that  she  had  been  avoiding  her  dad  since  they  had  taken  refuge  in  the  apartment  tower,  she  just  hadn't  found  a  good  chance  to  speak  to  him  yet.     but  she  figured  now  was  better  than  ever.

     𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝗼𝘂𝘁  𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺  𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲  𝘀𝗵𝗲  𝘄𝗮𝘀  𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱,     arms  folded  across  her  chest  as  she  looked  at  him,  shaking  her  head  for  a  moment  as  she  looked  at  him,     "     just  leave  her  alone.     i  don't  think  you're  helping  her  right  now  by  telling  how  great  you  thought  her  mom  was.     what  the  fuck  do  you  even  mean  by  that?     "     tilly  could  only  imagine  how  torn  lydia  was  feeling  right  now,  she  understood  how  much  it  sucked  to  know  that  everyone  else  around  you  wanted  your  parent  dead  and  there  was  nothing  you  could  to  do  to  change  that.     the  only     𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲     was  that  rick  had  made  the  decision  to  give  negan  a  different  kind  of  sentence  than  death.     alpha  was  too  dangerous  to  be  left  alive  and  lydia  seemed  to  understand  that.     the  war  wasn't  over  yet,  alpha  may  be  gone,  but  beta  was  still  focused  on  killing  them  all.     looking  down  for  a  moment,  teeth  pulling  at  her  bottom  lip  for  a  moment,     "     shit  has  been  really  intense  since  you     .     .     .     were  let  out,     "

     𝗮  𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁  𝗼𝗳  𝗵𝗲𝗿  𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱  𝘁𝗼  𝗯𝗲  𝗺𝗮𝗱  𝗮𝘁  𝗵𝗶𝗺,     even  though  she  knew  that  was  incredibly  unfair  if  he  had  only  joined  the  whisperers  to  get  close  to  alpha  to  stop  her.     he  had  no  idea  that  she  would  be  at  hilltop,  but  he  had  still  helped  them  attack  hilltop  and  blocked  them  in  so  that     𝗻𝗼  𝗼𝗻𝗲     could  escape.     but  she  was  mad  at  carol  for  not  telling  her  what  was  going  on,  for  letting  her  take  so  much  shit  from  people  who  thought  that  she  was  the  one  who  let  her  dad  go.     even  if  she  had  been  planning  to  break  him  out  so  that  he  wouldn't  be  killed  for  protecting  someone,  she  would've  gone  with  him  and  not  stayed  behind.     this  whole  situation  with  the  whisperers  was  just  much  more  complicated  than  anyone  could've  predicted.     looking  back  up  at  him,  tilly  shrugged  her  shoulders  as  she  tried  to  not  let  her  emotions  reach  an  intense  level,     "     a  lot  of  people  still  haven't  had  a  chance  to  recover  from  the  fight  at  hilltop.     never  seen  anything  like  that  before,  kinda  hard  to  just  shake  it  off,     "

     𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲  𝘄𝗮𝘀  𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁  𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻  𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁  𝘀𝗵𝗲  𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁  𝗶𝘁  𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲,     she  had  expected  some  of  them  to  remain  hostile,  but  it  seems  the  years  and  everything  she  had  done  to  separate  herself  from  her  dad's  shadow  allowed  her  to  be  accepted.     or  at  least  just  mostly  ignored,  allowing  her  to  stick  with  the  few  she  felt  she  could  trust.     tilly  had  been  surprised  when  michonne  offered  for  her  to  join  the  group  going  to  oceanside  to  train  for  the  likely  war  between  them  and  the  whisperers.     she  knew  this  was  her  chance  to  actually  help  and     𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱     her  home  alongside  people  she  trusted,  to  show  that  she  really  had  become  one  of  them  and  not  just  pretending  till  the  right  time.     alexandria  was  home,  there  was  people  there  she  cared  about  and  she  would  fight  with  everything  in  her  to  keep  it  safe.     it  was  a  scary  thought,  to  think  how  close  they  could  come  to  losing  everything,  even  with  the  fact  the  whisperers  hadn't  been  heard  from  since  after  the  fair.     it  made  her  value  her  relationships  with  people  more,  she  missed  people  back  home,  eugene,  siddiq,  gabriel,  rosita  and  little  coco  who  was  probably  going  to  be  so  much  bigger  by  the  time  they  get  home.     she  missed  her  dad,  who  she  hoped  wasn't  spoiling  his     𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲     at  freedom  by  running  his  mouth  too  much.     tilly  was  just  grateful  for  the  chance  to  help  actually  defend  them  and  keep  them  safe,  like  they  had  all  done  for  her  at  some  point.     but  she  also  couldn't  deny  that  she  was  grateful  to  get  some  time  with  alden  again,  even  if  she  was  unsure  on  when  they  would  see  each  other  again  once  they  went  back  to  their  homes.     she  was  just  trying  to  stay  focused  on  the  now  and  not  what  might  happen.

     𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘆  𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱  𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆  𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲  𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁  𝗵𝗲  𝘄𝗮𝘀  𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵,     losing  anyone  was  always  hard,  but  to  lose  someone  like  he  did  with  enid.     well,  it  was  enough  to  make  her  keep  somewhat  of  a  distance.     or  at  least  she  had  tried  to  at  first.     it  was  more  out  of  respect,  since  she  knew  how  bad     𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳     could  get,  she  wanted  to  give  him  space  without  complicating  anything.     before  the  fair,  she  couldn't  help  but  wonder  if  things  had  been  different,  if  michonne  hadn't  insisted  on  isolating  alexandria,  but  after  what  happened  she  could  only  feel  guilty  that  she  even  thought  that.     all  she  wanted  was  for  him  to  be  happy  and  it  had  seemed  like  he  was  with  enid.     she  had  just  convinced  herself  it  was  just  a     𝗰𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵     that  she  would  get  over,  one  that  he  never  felt  the  same  and  it  didn't  really  matter  in  the  long  run.     except  as  much  as  she  had  tried  to  keep  her  distance,  he  had  kept  finding  her  and  the  two  become  pretty     𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲     once  again.     it  was  nice  to  spend  time  with  him  again,  to  talk  and  laugh,  and  not  just  because  they  were  stuck  together  for  extended  periods  of  time.     alden  had  always  understood  her  in  a  way  that  not  a  lot  of  others  had,  she  felt  like  she  didn't  have  to  hide  anything  from  him  and  she  liked  the  way  she  felt  when  she  was  around  him.     the  one  thing  she  didn't  want  to  be  was  a  patch  for  his  grief,  maybe  that  was  why  she  was  holding  back  a  little,  she  wasn't  about  to  let  someone  in  if  it  meant  she  was  just  potentially  being     𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱     again  by  someone  else.     not  that  she  thought  alden  was  using  her,  she  just  wanted  to  make  sure  that  if  this  was  something  that  was  happening  between  them,  it  was  real.

     𝗵𝗶𝘀  𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻  𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆  𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲  𝗮𝘀  𝗮  𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲,     causing  her  to  look  at  him  with  a  soft  look  on  her  face,  a  little  caught  off  guard  that  he  was  even  thinking  about  that.     so  many  of  their  conversations  had  either  been  about  the  war  with  the  whisperers  or  just  about  anything  else,  they  didn't  really  talk  about  what  might  be  happening  between  them.     maybe  she  was  a  little  scared  that  if  she  did  that,  it  would  make  it     𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹     and  she  would  have  to  face  a  potential  of  different  kind  of  pain.     heartbreak  had  a  way  of  messing  with  people  and  it  wasn't  something  she  really  wanted  to  deal  with,  not  when  she  felt  like  there  was  potential  for  so  incredible  between  them.     tilly  also  couldn't  deny  that  it  was  something  she  had  wanted  him  to  ask  for  so  long,  the  fact  he  beat  her  to  it  gave  that  spark  of     𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲     that  he  also  was  feeling  whatever  she  was  feeling.     it  was  probably  one  of  the  few  times  he  had  seen  her  flustered  and  speechless,  it  was  a  simple  question  and  she  was  shocked  at  herself  for  not  immediately  jumping  at  the  chance  to  say  yes.

     𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗵  𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹  𝗮𝘁  𝗵𝗲𝗿  𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺  𝗹𝗶𝗽  𝗳𝗼𝗿  𝗮  𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳  𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁,     taking  a  small  step  towards  him  as  she  looked  up  at  him,  the  height  difference  between  them  not  being  a  huge  amount.     she  could  feel  her  heart  racing  in  her  chest,  it  was  the  first  time  ever  feeling  anything  like  this  and  maybe  that  was  why  she  wanted  to  be  so  careful  and  not  dive  headfirst  into  something,     "     i've  wanted  you  to  ask  that  for  a  while  now.     so  yes  you  can,     "     she  tells  him,  a  hand  coming  up  to  press  against  his  chest  to  stop  him  for  a  brief  moment,  hazel  eyes  holding  his  and  a  serious  look  takes  over  her  face,     "     but  only  if  you're  doing  it  for  the  right  reasons  and  not  because  you're  trying  to  get  over  something,     "

     𝗶𝗻  𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀  𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁  𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲  𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱,     not  the  pain  or  heartache  that  everyone  had  been  experiencing  that  lead  to  her  return  to  alexandria.     this  was  about  reuniting  with  family  that  she  had  missed  so  much,  had  thought  about  them  all  constantly  whilst  she  was  away,  seeing  how  much  judith  and  carl  had  grown  up  in  the  time  she  had  been  away.     maggie  couldn't  stop  herself  from  smiling  widely  as  she  saw  carl,     "     look  at  you,  you're  all  grown  up,     "     she  smiled,  hands  coming  to  rest  on  his  shoulders  as  she  looked  at  him.     it  made  her  heart  ache  a  little,  knowing  how  much  she  had  missed,  but  also  knowing  that  rick  would  be  so     𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱     of  him  and  that  he  was  still  here  fighting  for  his  family.     maggie  pulls  him  into  a  tight  hug,  sighing  softly  for  a  moment  because  as  much  as  she  had  been  nervous  to  come  back,  they  were  her  family  and  it  would  always  feel  right  to  be  back  home  with  them.     pulling  back  from  the  hug,  a  hand  coming  up  to  cup  his  cheek,  thumb  stroking  it  softly,     "     it's  so  good  to  see  you,  carl.     i've  missed  you,     "     maggie  admits  softly,  hand  dropping  back  to  her  side  as  she  looks  at  him.     she  had  left  to  help  georgie  build  new  communities,  it  had  felt  like  the  right  thing  at  the  time  for  herself.     but  there  was  a  part  of  her  that  felt     𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁𝘆     for  not  being  here,  for  not  being  able  to  help  them  with  the  whisperers,  to  hear  about  all  the  deaths  that  she  hadn't  been  here  to  help  with.     she  was  here  now,  she  wasn't  going  anywhere  now,     "     we've  got  a  lot  to  talk  about,  you  gotta  catch  me  up  on  everythin'  that's  been  happening  here,     "

     𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘆  𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱  𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆  𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲  𝗵𝗼𝘄  𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵  𝘀𝗵𝗲  𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁,     rosita  had  barely  recovered  from  the  sickness  that  was  infecting  alexandria  before  getting  into  the  fight  with  beta  that  almost  killed  her.     this  whole  war  with  the  whisperers  was  even     𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲     than  any  of  them  could've  expected,  they  had  already  lost  so  much  and  losing  siddiq  was  a  huge  loss  that  they  all  felt.     she  had  done  her  best  to  patch  her  up,  but  there  was  still  so  much  that  she  had  been  wanting  to     𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻     from  siddiq  that  she  hadn't,  which  was  why  she  refused  to  let  rosita  go  alone  to  hilltop.     she  promised  gabriel  that  she  would  look  for  rosita  and  nothing  will  happen  to  her,  she  also  knew  that  she  could  still  continue  to  learn  something  from  the  doctor  at  hilltop  which  meant  she  could  actually  be  of  help  to  alexandria.     plus  it  was  a  chance  to  see  alden  and  she  couldn't  exactly  pass  up.

     𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴  𝗵𝗲𝗿  𝗮  𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰  𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸,     she  moved  over  in  the  wagon  to  sit  next  to  her  rather  than  across  from  her,  holding  her  hand  out  to  her  in  hopes  the  other  would  take  it,     "     it's  been  a  long  few  days,  it's  understandable  that  you  feel  rough,     "     she  told  her,  wishing  there  was  more  she  could  say  that  would  make  her  feel  better.     they  knew  why  beta  had  dared  to  come  into  alexandria,  it  was  terrifying  to  think  how     𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆     it  had  been  for  him  to  gain  access  and  it  was  further  proof  of  how  much  damage  dante  had  done  before  his  disappearance.     tilly  didn't  need  to  ask  rosita  or  gabriel  what  happened  to  know     𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴     they  had  done  was  the  reason  the  whisperer  was  gone.     they  had  no  idea  what  was  going  to  happen  next,  but  whatever  was  going  to  happen,  it  wasn't  going  to  be  good.     to  make  it  all  worse,  they  still  had     𝗻𝗼  𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮     where  her  dad  had  run  off  to  or  how  he  had  escaped  which  just  made  her  feel  all  the  more  on  edge.     not  that  she  was  letting  rosita  see  that,  she  was  trying  to  be  strong  for  her  after  everything  that  happened,     "     we'll  get  the  doctor  to  look  you  over  properly,  sorry  that  i  couldn't  do  a  better  job  at  it,  but  i'm  not  gonna  stop  learning  and  developing  my  skills  that  siddiq  taught  me,     "     tilly  promised,  knowing  that  she  had  to  keep  learning  to  help  keep  siddiq's  legacy  as  a  doctor  alive.     maybe  one  day  she  would  get  to  teach  coco  what  her  dad  taught  her.     they  just  had  to  survive  all  of  this  first  and  stop  the  whisperers,     "     i've  got  you,  okay?     we're  gonna  get  through  this,     "
