Hayley raised an eyebrow at caroline's actions . Her words and the moment she placed her hand on her hip and kissed her on the cheek . To say she was amused was an understatement . ❝ you should know never to pet a werewolf . they tend to BITE . ❞ She laughed as she shook her head . taking a step back as if processing her actions . ❝ you're different . not at all than what tyler described you as ... I'll take the free drinks if you tell me the reason . ❞
"That seems fair," Caroline said. At least that's what her humanity tried to say. Fair, and so she stepped a little closer. "But you should know," she said, moving to place a hand on Hayley's hip. "Tyler and I will be broken up by the end of the week," she whispered softly. "I don't do well to men telling me what I can and can't do," she said and she already knew how her story with Tyler ended. In fact she was sure Tyler knew before her, she had to wait around for years to work it out. "Then we should get a drink," she said, pressing a soft kiss against the others cheek.

ACT I: I could never sacrifice you
1. Sacrifice by Sharon Lyons
A tiny little sacrifice. Her mother would always say, for worlds to turn, some things would be lost among the space between galaxies.
Ouri was young back then, a much tinier dragon, much more impressionable. Now one sacrifice felt like touching a pulsating black hole.
The silver tree bloomed above Ouri. She dug her hands in the golden sand of the cosmos. By her feet the lifeless body of Najwa lied.
“Weaver of Worlds, you must let go.” The leaves echoed through the white room. “Fate beckons you, Scion. It is time.”
Golden magic blossomed on her fingertips and she felt a pang of frightening pain. “I’m sorry, mother. I’m sorry, Silver Tree. I’m sorry, Najwa.”
The room was a golden field, and death became life.
2. Across the Universe of Time by Hayley Westenra
“And the cold, cold wind, it blows me away The feeling all over is a black black day But I know that I’ll see you again And I know that you’re near me”
***
ACT II: I could never forget you
3. Light in Between by Abby Gundersen
Najwa tried to forget. She really did. Tried to leave everything behind. To be forgotten amongst the cliffs of Desert Highlands.
Shame, sadness, anger; they danced underneath her skin every day. Her dreams were plagued with meadows blooming in the sunlight. Songs of ancient times.
Najwa wondered if other Awakened actually dreamed. Or if she had just ended up in a bizarre predicament. One that would forever be a mystery. Unless…
Unless she found Ouri.
Najwa gritted her teeth and patted Toffee’s back to try and distract herself. The summit wildhorn bleated and rested her head above Najwa’s. “Yeah, I know gal.”
4. God Only Knows by RAIGN
“I may not always love you But long as there are stars above you If you should ever leave me Though life would still go on Believe me”
***
ACT III: And so they dance between knives and lies
5. You Have to Let Go by Adam Fielding
“How could you!?” Najwa shouted. Her hands grabbing at Ouri’s Mordant Crescent outfit. A reminder so grim. A reminder so ugly.
“Najwa, I’m not who you think I am.” Ouri was visibly shaking. Forming words had become hard for her.
“Oh you think I don’t know? The display is sickening.” Najwa pushed Ouri against the wall with such force the nearby shelves shook. Ouri simply stood still, her eyes full of guilt.
“No, it’s not that.” She tried to relax her shoulders, but ultimately failed. Ouri knew bringing this up right now would be either an incredibly stupid idea, or completely destroy their chance of ever reconnecting. “I’m just… following a list of things to do.”
“This can’t be serious.” Najwa’s eyes were pure rage. “Was “Awakening” me part of the list!?“
“No… He didn’t do anything to you. I-” She swallowed hard. “I did.”
It took only a second for her eyes to lose the deep hazel color. Replaced by golden shades and cosmic hues. Ouri was the night sky. The far seeing cosmos. Written all over her skin.
Najwa stepped back in a daze. Her mind was a volcano erupting in the middle of the ocean. “What is going on.” Najwa stepped back as further as she could clinging to her scythe. If she still had a beating heart she knew it would have plummeted out of her chest by now.
“Spearmarshal. Najwa.” Ouri paused. And the universe watched them from the corners of the tapestry of time. “The list is what your people call a prophecy.”
The sudden realization hit Najwa like a crashing wave. All those cryptic dreams. All those shades of gold dancing at he back of her mind. The prairies of starlight. All of it. “Am I bound to you!? You did this to me!?”
“N-no! No! I cut the connection. Your will is your own.” Ouri quickly interjected. Panic was taking over her.
“How dare you!?” Najwa’s grab on her scythe was painfully tight. Tears forming at the corners of her eyes.
“If it were not me. It would have been Palawa Joko! I didn’t want that!” Ouri pleaded. Pleaded to be understood between fate and choice. Between golden threads and shadows.
“You…” Najwa’s anger was like a bursting sun. Extinguishing a galaxy before it was even formed. “You are a monster. I regret the day I crossed paths with you.”
A sacrifice. A hole in the tapestry of time.
“I know.”
The birds did not sing that morning.
6. I Cannot Raise the Dead by The Dark Element
“In a time before us We were both someone else And we can be again We both let wrong one in To keep the right one out And now we’re both without”
***
ACT IV: Until tomorrow begins again
7. Heart Lying Still by Nightwish
The Domain of Kourna was even more dreadful than Najwa remembered; she ended up finding an empty building to sit on while the Sunspears were organizing the attack on Gandara.
She kept pulling at her attire. It felt strange to use the Sunspears’ dervish insignia again. But here she was, ready to help destroy the cause of all the pain in her home.
“Mother?” A voice came from the door.
“Yes, Khalida?” she responded lamely.
“Jeez, I thought you’d be happier. Is not seeing your daughter for the first time in eight years a good thing?” Khalida teased her, raising her eyebrow playfully.
“I- No. I’m sorry, hunbun.” Najwa panicked and tried to get up.
“Hey. I’m just teasing. I know all our wounds are still pretty fresh.” Khalida placed her hand over her mother’s shoulder, signalling her to sit back down.
“Yeah…” Najwa said.
Khalida sat next to her and hugged her knees. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“Ha. I should be the one asking you that.” Najwa leaned her back against the wall. Her whole body was tense.
“C'mon, Mom. We might all just die in a few hours.” She elbowed her mother and grinned.
“Gods. When did you become so…” Najwa tried to find words to fill the gap of so many years lost. But nothing came up. She knew it would always be something hard to manage. “Never mind. I came to a conclusion. And I don’t like it.”
“Uhhhhh? Yeah? So early in the morning?” Khalida quipped.
She snorted at the comment. “You know, Ouri.”
“I do know her.”
“I might have said some really. Really. Upsetting things to her.” She shuddered remembering the last time they had talked. It was a chilling sonnet in the back of Najwa’s mind. “I was hurting. I still think she had no right to bring me back to life. But…”
“You see her point now?” Khalida said.
“Yeah… Being bound to Joko would have destroyed every fiber of my morals. I am still here. I am still mostly myself.” She looked at her hands and felt a spark of warmth. “I got to see you again.”
“Then you should tell her that,” Khalida simply offered.
“I think I should just let it go-”
“You did that for eight years.”
“And here I thought I was the mother.” She frowned and crossed her arms.
“Things change. I am a Spearmarshal now.” Khalida smiled.
8.To the Moon and Back by Moonlight Haze
“I still love you so bad To the moon and back and I Yes I miss you daily to the moon and back I’d go anywhere now To the moon and back for you Hope my voice will reach you To the moon and back Time cannot heal scars that lie so deep Inside this void of mine”
***
ACT V: I will cling to the heart between dawn and dusk
9. Between the Lines by Felix Räuber
Ouri and Najwa both stood across each other. The fortress sounded eerily silent after Aurene and the Commander had stopped Joko. Only the faint cheers in the distance, from both the dead and the living, could be heard.
Najwa took a deep breath and touched the grotesquely adorned walls. “This could have been my fate.”
Ouri eyes followed the other woman’s form. She bowed her head slightly, avoiding her gaze.
“I don’t know how I feel about everything that happened,” Najwa continued. “I even find it hard to believe that I am here.”
The former Spearmarshal dragged her feet through the tar. The oozing pools reflected her face in such a distorted manner. “Gross. I wouldn’t want to have this inside of me.” Najwa grimaced.
Ouri bit her lip, trying not to chuckle at the comment.
“Are you just gonna let me monologue?” Najwa pouted. “I remember you being a chatter box.”
“You said you wanted to talk…”
“Always a little too literal, are we?” Najwa walked over to Ouri. “It’s just. I… I don’t know how to fix this.”
“Fix what?” Ouri blinked. Her eyes were gold and shining. They contrasted the beautiful dark blues of her skin.
Much better outfit, Najwa caught herself staring at her curves. The essence of the stars painting her body was mesmerizing. Ouri titled her head at the slight pause.
Najwa coughed and tried to re-focus. “Us.”
Tentatively she reached out for Ouri’s hands. They were glowing in a flame-like effect. Najwa could swear they felt like what one would describe as the heart of the universe. Warm, cold, terrifying, and enticing all at the same time.
“The reason. The reason it hurt so much to know what you did. The reason it felt less of a burden if I was just another Awakened is…” She pushed back her tears. And squeezed the other woman’s hands. “Is because. I.”
“I love you.” Ouri cut her off.
Najwa didn’t need to ask. Najwa didn’t need to understand. Ouri was a Celestial. A Scion of a grand river of the cosmos. A life bearer. How could a life bearer leave someone to die. Someone she loved.
Yet disbelief still colored her blushing face.
“You. You love me?”
Ouri nodded.
Najwa should have known that from the first day they met. Ouri had always been a spark. The fountain of the gentle sun. Najwa connected their lips in a rush of emotion. Soft and willing. Somewhat rough and passionate, too. Full of regrets, mistakes, and guilt. Full of joy, love, and forgiveness.
“I love you, too. Gods, I do.”
Dusk and dawn danced together for the first time in a millennia.
10. Forever by Frozen Crown
“Find in light the essence of the night Say forever Forever Till the stars shine on our hearts Tides won’t last Our time is dying fast But this moment, our moment It will shine bright on our hearts”
***
ACT VI: Spearmarshal and Scion
11. Celestial Dreams by Rachel Currea
“So do I get an honorary Celestial membership?” Najwa’s hair sparkled against the wind. The grey tips had become glowing and golden much like her eyes.
“Well… if you want one.” Ouri laughed.
“Yes, I do.” She grinned widely. “Don’t tell the other Awakened, but this is so much cooler.”
12. Night Will Fade by Beyond the Black
“Somewhere beyond this world Far beyond this life Fate will raise our souls out of the past Somewhere beyond this day Night will fade away Will you follow my final words For tomorrow beyond this world”
13. Into a Dawn by Feridea

⧼ anya chalotra, cis female, she / hers / leave it alone by hayley williams + two sides of the same coin, a cloudy crystal ball, the creases and wear on your tarot deck and your map ⧽ ━━ hey, isn’t that PARVATI PATIL? i read a daily prophet article on them, once ; the TWENTY-THREE year old pure blood WITCH is a GRYFFINDOR alumnus who has gone on to be a TRAVEL WRITER. i’ve heard they can be quite IMAGINATIVE & AMBITIOUS, but i don’t know… they came off very FLIGHTY & POSSESSIVE in that interview. it really is hard to know what to believe these days though, isn’t it?
i. It tastes so bitter on my tongue
parvati patil is born in the middle of a thunderstorm on april 6, 1980 at dhanvantari hospital in the wizarding settlement of kalale in india.
she is born five minutes after her sister padma, a welcome surprise to her parents. one daughter, after all, was a gift; two was a blessing. padma comes into the world as a solemn presence. her father is proud of presenting his eldest daughter to his friends- this child never cries, he boasts, and padma stares out at the world with her solemn brown eyes from the cradle of her father’s arms, a piece of orange string tied around her wrist to tell her apart from her younger sister. parvati, though, makes her presence felt, frequently and loudly. she is more than padma, even from the very beginning- second to enter the world, screaming and implacable. Her mother ties a pink thread around her left wrist to differentiate herself from her sister, even though their personalities soon make the strings unnecessary.
as the twins grow, their parents dote on padma. she’s so like them, after all: quiet, obedient, brilliant from a young age. parvati, though, struggles. padma’s magic manifests during their move to london when the girls are toddlers. parvati’s comes later, once the girls have entered primary school. even early on, padma has a better control over her magic, while parvati’s is wild and tempestuous. it isn’t that her parents love parvati less than padma- they just love her differently, but to parvati, it feels like less. padma is golden and parvati feels lesser.
when the girls go to hogwarts, quiet, studious padma is sorted into ravenclaw while parvati is sent across the great hall to gryffindor. it is the first time the two have been separated, but it isn’t the last.
ii. the truth’s a killer
gryffindor hones parvati into someone different. she starts her first year as a wide-eyed innocent child and comes home bolder and brighter than before. where before she was wild and ungoverned, she comes home stronger, quicker. she learns to flirt and cast spells and brew potions and read her future in the tarot deck professor trelawny presses into her hands. it’s bleak. as the years pass, she starts to pull padma along with her, until by her fifth year they are finally fully in sync. both join the d.a. and learn to fight. after all, a war is coming, and they’d be stupid not to fight it.
by their seventh year, parvati has fully brought padma into the fold of her brash and bold housemates. for once, she doesn’t feel less- she feels more, bigger, better, more splendid than her older sister.
when the final battle comes, it is more bang than whimper. Harry’s body is dangled in front of them and parvati can hear people screaming as her knees give out beneath her. she can’t make a sound as padma pulls her back to her feet, wrapping her arms around her shoulders and telling her it isn’t over, not yet, as neville swings the sword and the battle erupts around them again.
she and padma and dean are duelling ferociously against yaxley and travers. Spells are cutting through the air and she can feel her magic in a way she hasn’t before, around her and in her-
and then padma falls, eyes sightless.
parvati can hear herself screaming, can feel the magic tingle through her veins like a shot of firewhiskey and she cuts her wand through the air, green light leaving it as yaxley falls. she and dean cut travers down. the pops of disapparition ring out not long after. it’s a hollow victory.
iii. but i can’t leave it alone
after it’s all over, after padma is buried, parvati cannot find peace. she wears white and stands over her sister’s coffin and she cannot cry. how do you mourn someone you’ve shared a womb with? how do you weep for the other half of your soul? she waves her wand with her parents and casts the spell to cremate padma’s body, her eyes blank.
there comes a point, after a few months, where she cannot stand it anymore. she hates going to pubs with her fellow survivors and to diagon alley and seeing shades of padma everywhere and feeling the itch of pitying stares on the back of her neck- so she runs.
her first stop is her birthplace of kalale, where she feels, slowly, something start to shake itself loose inside her. she writes a travel diary and describes the taste of masala dosas and the kaapi that she can’t find in any english cafe. she puts her pen to paper to talk about the colors of the saris around her and the smell of home and, on a whim, sends it to the prophet as a proposal for a travel column. to her shock, it’s accepted. The prophet sends her across the globe- moscow and new york and morocco and she finally starts to heal.

❝ ⸻ You expect me to be scared , scream bloody mary and run away ? ❞ hayley scoffed . ❝ I had my fait shares with vampires and I'm not one to say how they feed but definitely not stupid enough to feed in PUBLIC and possibly expose the entire supernatural community or feed in front of a potential hunter and end up DEAD . ❞
Damon's eyes raised in surprise. "You see me feeding on a woman, you see me tell her to go leave, and your first instinct is to ask me directions?" Shrugging, he pointed behind him. "The Lockwood Mansion is that way, you can't miss it. It's the giant mansion."

❝ ⸻ I said people who decide to shut it of are . not just you . I think my friends were also idiots in wanting to numb the emotional pain for what ? a bit ? just to feel it all over again later when they turn it on ? On top of the fact the guilt of the pain they caused and regret with their humanity off ? good luck with it all . ❞ Bonnie rolled her eyes at hope .
❝ My friends survive your father . Nothing will change that other than the fact that there are people like US that might change that . Everything will go as played , I get wanting to prevent your mother and father from dying ... but careful not to erase yourself from the future either . it would be a nasty way to go . but glad we can be on the same page when it comes to it . No intervening ... unless necessary . I have better things to worry about other than your father .❞
"That's just one witch's opinion," Hope replied. "You know, I don't think it's very smart to be telling the tribrid that she's an idiot," she warned. "Dr. Saltzman's not here to keep me from killing you - not that it would matter if he was or not. I already killed him once." Something shifted in her face, though, when Bonnie mentioned the spear - the one weapon that could kill the Tribrid. "Well, when I had my humanity on, I didn't want to die. But with it off? I'm having too much fun to check out early." She smiled at the mention of her father - and what he was up to. "I'm not doing anything to change what's going to happen, at least not until my future is secured. Until then, if anyone comes near my family? That includes: my dad, my mom, my aunts, my uncles, my cousin, or my hybrids. I will kill them and everyone they've ever loved. Believe me when I saw this: I will not lose them again. I don't care if this entire town has to go up in flames. I'll intervene, if necessary, but that's the extent of what I'll do."

❝ ⸻ Yes ? ❞ She sensed her werewolf side and could only assume she possibly was around vampires to explain her scent . But to say she was all three ? She shook her head in confusion . ❝ ⸻ I sense there's more to you as weird as this might sound . Not just in what you are ... a connection to you ... I thought it was just because of the fact that you're a wolf too but ... feel free to call me weird and walk away ❞ the more time they were together the stronger the feeling and instinct
"You can sense what, exactly?" Hope asked, stopping in her tracks. Not out of fear, but curiosity. This version of her mom hadn't gone through anything involving Hope, yet. Had she even met Hope's dad, yet? "My werewolf side?" She stepped closer. "My vampire side?" She smiled. "Or my witch side? I have a lot of sides, you see?"

she didn't think that much about her comment . Just maybe someone else said that to her . Either way she was amused by her words . Given how tyler talked about her and this one didn't seem to care about him , the she wolf chuckled as she shook her head at caroline . ❝ I'm all for being a girls girl ... and you are cute Caroline ... but I don't condone cheating . ❞ Hayley may be a lot of things but a homewrecker is something she was not . Either way , she wasn't one to get into a couple's messy situation . ❝ here I thought you guys were all lovey-dovey given how he gushed about you ❞
"Yeah that felt insulting the last time I heard it too," she commented. Hayley would likely take that as Tyler say something similar but when Hayley had referred to her relationship as nothing more than teen drama. She recalled wanting to wipe the smile right off that girls face, though given where Hayley ended, Caroline just smiled at the result. Teen drama and all, Caroline had been the one left standing. "Trust me, I'm pretty much done caring about what Tyler thinks," she said. Though having him back in town, might make pretending a little harder to do. She smirked lightly at the other, looking her over. She wasn't wrong with herself, Hayley was cute. "Though if he had cheated on me, I'm not above returning the favor.."

❝ ⸻ Don't worry , nothing happened between us . Ty's a buddy . If you don't believe me , take it up with ty . I don't do teen drama . ❞ Hayley simply said in her defense if caroline thought anything else . ❝ but thanks for the compliment . ❞
It was so hard to recall where her and Tyler where up to, it was so far in the past for her. But she had read young hers texts from Tyler which told her he was leaving to work on the sire bond. "Being with someone that's sired to a crazy immortal is hard," she said. She looked to Hayley when she also mentioned. "Also hard when he runs off with beautiful women into the mountains and never calls."

❝ ⸻ that much I could already tell . ❞ Hayley simply replied as she listened to her . So she and tyler . the entire response made her raise an eyebrow . ❝ trouble in paradise . ❞ So tyler didn't tell her , he broke the sire bond . ❝ the idea of your boyfriend being sirebonded to the hybrid . afraid he'll steal tyler from your life . ❞
"Honestly I'm equally as judgy," she said. Even thinking back to her time to Tyler made her head hurt. "Caroline," she said. "And yes, Tyler and I-" were? are? This was going to be a mess. "- a couple. But that's a problem for another time and we both know his sire bond to Klaus is better than anything at the moment."

❝ ⸻ guessing your friends are a little judgy over you doing this . ❞ hayley looked the vampire over and simply shrugged . ❝ I helped tyler out , so yes , friends . Guessing you're the girlfriend ? carolyn ? catherine ? I think he showed me a picture but I was drunk so could have been another blonde .❞ She followed her as hazel-green eyes looked around the town as they walked to the store .
Caroline considered her options for a moment. "Alright," she said. "Just this once, I don't want my friends getting all nosy." And trying to get her humanity back. She motioned for Hayley to follow her. "You are a friend of Tyler, right?" That was this time in history? She clearly wasn't pregnant with baby Hope yet. So much to tell Hayley about her future, and so much that Caroline didn't care about.
