- THE ONE SCENE WHERE MERLIN PICKS THE MOON OUT OF THE SKY AND ROLLS IT ON HIS FINGERS LIKE A COIN??? COOLEST SHIT IVE EVER SEEN (+500 moon coins)

- okay points for it following the actual legend but i did NOT NEED THE ‘INCEST SEX SHOWN THROUGH CANDLE WAX TO MERLIN’ SCENE (-100000000 bleach to my eyes)

- cast? Sam Neil as Merlin, Helena Botham Carter as Morgan, Martin Short as Frik, Sebastian Roché as Gawain, Lena Heady as Guinevere??? and much more?? absolute icons (+500 excaliburs)

- Morgan le Fay: 🥺 as soon as she appeared on screen i knew i would support her crimes. has a speech impediment, love for her sociopathic child, and an actual reason for her actions. also her romance with frik? the healthiest of the entire show (+2000 kites)

- arthur: what can i say i’m a sucker. all he wants is peace and love and i just go 🫠 also apparently merlin taught him ethics and morals but there’s no way. i love him and his curly hair <3 (+7000 noble hearts)

- GAWAIN my absolute beloved. truly a treasure (+2000 tankards of ale)

- lady of the lake has a cgi necklace of moving fish and that shit slaps so hard (+300 ominous boats on lakes)

- the women on this show? guinevere in particular? absolutely slay. (+50000 gay heart flutters)

- all of this happens bc of shitty parental figures (-400 therapy sessions)

- lancelot cheats on his wife without any enchantment :( (-500 broken hearts)

- merlin helps uther sleep with igraine using deception and without her consent (-2000 BBCM S5 flashbacks of morally dark grey merlin)

-mordred? sociopath. evil. soulless being and also a drama queen. had me, arthur, and gawain all going “STOP TALKING” throughout (-3000 hairs pulled out)

- guinevere nearly being burned at the stake but arthur can’t go through with it and then lancelot swoops in and they ride off into the sunset… whirlwind of emotions lads (+100 for the happy ending -100 for stress palpitations)

- merlin: love love love sam neill but my god this merlin makes me pull my hair out. i mean yay for merlin/nimueh endgame i guess but I DONT UNDERSTAND HIS MORALITY OR MOTIVATIONS (-100 old merlin beards)

- the “it was all a story being told by the unreliable narrator” ending? merlin telling the story for money and not using magic? not a fan! loved that frik was there but hey? what the hell did merlin ‘omit’?? (-500 unsatisfactory feelings)

- rupert the talking horse. sorry SIR rupert. no backstory. no explanation. a handful of scenes where he talks. the only one left with any magic at the end of the show. a true enigma (+1300 pieces of hay)

Conclusions:

i think i might be stupid. but like i have no idea what defines good and evil in this show. all mab wants is for magic to remain in the world but nay sayeth the christians so now there’s conflict. but like??? merlin buddy you are born of magic? and you want it gone? the fuck? simply do not understand.

also did Not like mab enchanting uther to lust after igraine and gwen after lancelot. did NOT LIKE FRIK CONVINCING MORGAN TO HAVE SEX WITH ARTHUR. bad bad bad behavior all around.

there were some badass scenes i’m not gonna lie, mab shooting arrows out of her fingers? incredible. that one king being like 😐 while his tower crumbles behind him? I LAUGHED SO HARD DUDE! there was also some banger cgi. however as this show made me watch parts of an incest sex scene in candle wax that is now seared into my brain, a lot of points were lost.
