ID: It’s a drawing of Johnathan Sims from the Magnus Archives, sat legs-crossed, with one arm loosely held on his legs and loosely holding his glasses, and the other propped onto an invisible surface. The propped arm’s hand is raised to Jon’s eye, stretched out, but with his index finger creating an opening with the rest to display his overshadowed eye, still easily visible due to it being outlined by bright green lines. The style the eye is drawn is similar to the style of the bright green eyes haloed to the side of his head, and the large, less opaque, large one in the background of the drawing. The middle finger of this hand is lightly pulling down his bottom lid, making the eye more visible. Jon is colored in a grey-scale manner, the dull color ever-so-slightly hinted blue. He is half outlined in the same bright green as the eyes, half outlined in a bright red. This bright red is also present as cartoonish exclamation symbols around him, and in the pupil of his bright-green eye. His other eye’s pupil is also colored brightly, but with the green, rather than the red, interrupting the greyscale of the rest of the area. Jon’s expression is neutral, although he looks exhausted, with deep dark circles under his eyes and a slightly furrowed brow. He is wearing a dark overcoat with lighter patches on the elbows and shoulders, and, under this, is wearing a lighter vest. Under the vest is yet another layer, being a semi-visible white button-up shirt. He is wearing darker dress pants and black, professional, and simple shoes. His hair is long and unkept, decorated with white streaks and put back into a loose half-bun.

ID’s: The first filter makes the drawing look almost like it’s behind the screen of an old electrical device, more similar to that of an older model of computer. The colors are dulled ever-so-slightly, and the edges of the drawing are darkened with shadow.

The second filter has made the image completely greyscale, muting the bright and dull colors both.

The last filter has made the colors all a bit more blue, giving the drawing more color than it had originally.

ID: A colored and shaded sketch of the drawing. It looks very similar to the final product, except less cleaned-up and covered in guidance lines and coloring that goes out of the lines.

I think I wouldn’t be as mad about Toei’s choices for Super if the things they overwrote wouldn’t have translated so beautifully to animation.

I have my beef with the gaps in my sense of humor and Toei’s writers room and our opinions on characterizations, sure, but so many of the cool things that happened in the manga and the movies that Toei reiterated were changed, botched, or removed completely, and that sucks.

Vegeta being so cool and so protective of his family during the Goku Black arc, and Gohan being a total badass during Ressurection F are my biggest “why did you change this??” beefs. But also man. The tournament had so many good moments in the manga that were totally snubbed in the anime.

As a fan it makes me angry but as an artist it makes me sad. Toya is such a cinematic storyteller and his pacing and compositions were just. Thrown away. :(

EDIT: Someone in the notes pointed out that the anime caught up with the manga before the GB arc so I do take back that they threw away Toya’s later work in the GB and Tournament arcs, but I will never understand why they weren’t sharing assets when they were in production at the same time. And I still can’t forgive them for fumbling the retellings of BotG and ResF so hard OTL

if i had a nickel for every time i hyperfixated on a piece of media where the/a main character:

is not a singleton

has a missing parent who is an ADHD-coded amputee pilot who they thought was dead but was actually on a different celestial body and who is my favorite character

was raised by their uncle who doesn’t want them to follow their parent’s path

is frequently compared to the aforementioned parent

meets an emotionally broken old guy who they didn’t know was close to their missing parent and is emotionally broken because of it

then i would have two nickels. which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

The implications of Jace taking a liking to J2 after so long is so fun bc as much as he has finally come to the realization that he cares about Blue and appreciates how unwaveringly kind and caring he is despite how shitty he was to him. He’s also a little jealous of Porter. Because if Porter couldn’t love him right, he sure as fuck can’t be loving sweet, strange, little Bluejay right.

If no one is gonna love him J2 right, he’ll just do it himself. 🤷🏼‍♂️ He does hate when the little voice in his head calls it self care. It’s a lot kinder than the one that tells him it’s pathetic to be pursuing himself.

But the more he spends time with Blue, the more he dotes on him, The more he realizes that J2 is different. He hasn’t been like Blue for a long time. They’re similar, that was always going to be true. They shared a face, they shared memories to a point. But Blue could and had interpreted a lot of them through his own lens. A kinder lens. Where Jace had torn himself to shreds, Blue bandaged the wounds, kissed the scars and hoped to heal stronger. He didn’t live it, but he admired Jace for coming this far. That.. changed things. Made them a bit clearer.

For once he didn’t have to lay himself bare, J2 knew him completely, he didn’t need to.

How refreshing.
