For me it was a nod to the houses DNA, the velvets and Luxe Furs ( inspired by Ballets Russes? ), sexy, androgynous leathers ( the famous Le Smoking collection, and mid 80s Yves ) and the tight, mini florals ( anything Yves of the 80s ). There was not much I didn’t like about this presentation. Especially loving the leather hot pants and teal velvet suit! • v e r s a c e • Fall 18. Continuing her “Tribute”, Donatella delved further into the archives, tartan, fringing, colour blocking and influences of Versace of the 80s and early 90s. This year is the 40th Anniversary of the house Gianni built and the 20th Anniversary of Donatella as successor to his empire. Eclectic and colourful, I’m loving the nostalgic vibe happening at Versace atm, Supermodels old and new graced the runway, and I can’t help but draw comparisons to the original Supers and those of today. M A X M A R A S S 1 8 . Classic and elegant with a streetwise sass! Is anybody else seeing a reference to 90s Helmut Lang ( those sharp tailored suits, cuffed denim and racer back tanks ) crossed with the king of the Upper East Side, Oscar de la Renta ( those gorgeous prints and coats )?? Max Mara is getting stronger every season, but what I love is that they never loose a sense of who and what they are, trying to gain a younger market without forgetting those who have forever remained loyal to the brand. Y S L S S 1 8 . WOW! Admittedly when I first viewed this collection I was left feeling a little underwhelmed, but upon looking at it a second time I'm in love! A sexy disheveled chic, for me there were elements of Yves Safari, Le Smocking and the controversial 1971 "Forties" collections, and as for the Ostrich feathers adorning boots, sandals, dresses and coats, DEVINE! And then of course there were all the cocktail numbers, heavily influenced by YSL of the 80s. I can't help but envisioning them being worn in smoky Parisian nightclubs and jazz lounges. As for the boys, the bomber again ruled in its variations of colour and embellishment, but it was the safari inspired kaftan numbers that have got me excited! Anthony is really settling into this iconic house and really making it his own. G G S S 1 8 . Well Milan Fashion Week is in full swing, kicking off with Alessandro Michele for Gucci. Offering his now, trademark, eclectic and madcap aesthetic. Womenswear was a miss mash of coolness, skirt suits, embroidered tulle and voluminous purple lame, whilst the strongest message in menswear was suiting, wear we were confronted by ties tucked into pants as well as suit jackets! V E R S A C E S S 1 8 . What an exciting and emotional collection! Two decades since the world lost the genius that was Gianni Versace. Donatella drew inspiration from the house archives of the early 90s, reinterpreting iconic prints like those from the "Butterfly" and "Baroque" collections, as well as the infamous "Vogue" collection reimagining those rhinestone cat suits ( worn this time by Kaia, Cindy's daughter ). The biggest moment, however, was the finale, Carla, Claudia, Naomi, Cindy and Helena joining Donatella for her victory lap ( to George Michaels "Freedom 90", recreating that famous moment from Fall 91 ) wearing a modern take on those liquid gold chainmail creations from Fall 94, pure magic!
