Professor Arraigned for ‘offering $40,000 bribe’ to Compromise ICPC Probe
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned one John Kester Ifeanyichukwu, a professor, for alleged bribery.
According to a statement by Azuka Ogugwa, ICPC spokesperson, Ifeanyichukwu was arraigned before A.O. Otaluka, a judge of the federal capital territory (FCT) high court, on a one-count charge.
The anti-graft agency is accusing the professor of allegedly “issuing a cheque valued at $40,000 to a staff of the commission”.
“The cheque was part of the $50,000 and a house in Abuja, promised to the officer to compromise the investigation by retrieving the accused person’s devices, MacBook S/N CIML8BUGDTY3, MacBook S/N W80204J7ATN and iPhone pro11 which were in the custody of ICPC for investigative activities,” the statement reads.
“John Kester Ifeanyichukwu had earlier been reported to the commission by the presidency for alleged acts bordering on corruption, extortion and money laundering.
“ICPC, in a Charge No: CR/025/2022, informed the court of how the defendant induced one of its operatives to smuggle out a particular iPhone and a laptop and to replace them with a dummy that was to be provided by his personal assistant.”
The commission said the action of the accused contravenes section 18 (b) and is punishable under section 18 (d) of the ICPC Act, 2000.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and sought bail.
Ruling on the application, the judge admitted Ifeanyichukwu to bail in the sum of N10 million and two sureties in like sum.
The sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court and one of them must have a landed property in Abuja.
The judge ordered that the international passport of the accused and other valid travel documents must be submitted to the court before the next adjourned date.

By • Olalekan Fagbade November Guber Elections: PDP candidate opens up on stepping down from governorship contest The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has refuted a viral video of him stepping down ahead of Saturday’s election. Anyanwu said the viral video was edited to manipulate and deceive the electorate in the state. In a statement by the Director of his campaign council, Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, on Friday, Anyanwu urged people of the state to ignore the video. He linked the fake video to mischief makers. The statement reads: “The SamJones Governorship Campaign Council is compelled to address a malicious video circulating, falsely claiming that our esteemed candidate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, has withdrawn from the gubernatorial race. “We emphatically state that this information is categorically FALSE. After a thorough examination of the video, it became evident that it was heavily edited with manipulated audio to mislead the public.” Anyanwu will face the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodinma, in a keenly contested governorship election on Saturday. The PDP candidate had expressed optimism to claim power from Uzodinma.

Uzodinma gone for over 40 days - PDP urges Tinubu to investigate insecurity in Imo
Tumblr media
The People Democratic Party has described as unfortunate the inability of the Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to stem the rising insecurity in the state. The spokesman for the imo Pdp 2023 Gubernatorial campaign, Barr. Gozie Nwachukwu disclosed this during a press conference held in Owerri, the state capital on Tuesday. Nwachukwu, who was flanked by the director of New Media, Imo PDP 2023 gubernatorial campaign organization, Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, said the governor has been missing in action while insecurity remains a concern. He further lamented the governor’s absence from the state for over 40 days since the swearing-in of the Tinubu govt, he said that Uzodinmma had relocated to Abuja and abdicated his constitutional responsibility of ensuring that the lives and property of imo people are secured. He added that instead, non-state actors recruited by Uzodinmma had taken over the constitutional roles of the security agencies in imo state and that this may have contributed to the terrible security situation in imo state. “In the last seven days, parts of Imo state … bullets rained in Imo. We are seriously worried,” said the party’s publicist. He then called on President Bola Tinubu to set up an independent investigation into the wanton killings in the state. “That’s why we are calling on the President and the Commander-in-Chief to please urgently set up an independent, discreet fact-finding team devoid of any contribution by Hope Uzodinma and his cohorts.” The PDP spokesman also seized the opportunity to extend heartfelt commiseration from the party’s Gubernatorial Candidate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, to those that have suffered irreparable and terrible losses as a result of the collapsed security architecture in the state. This comes a few days after suspected gunmen burnt part of the Amaraku market in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State The hoodlums, who rained terror on Friday, also razed vehicles and goods belonging to traders, mostly women, and fled to another community, Obolo, also in the LGA, where they burnt some commercial vehicles. A non-government organisation, The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, Intersociety, claimed that “no fewer than 1600 unarmed citizens of Imo State have been killed while 300 others disappeared without trace between January 2021 and May 2023, a period of 29 months.” Read the full article

Nigerian Yahoo Boys Ring Leader bags 20 Years Imprisonment In Texas
Tumblr media
A North Texas man, Ifeanyichukwu Festus Obi, 43, will spend the next 20 years behind bars for leading a gang of criminals that allegedly used "sweetheart sc#ms" on elderly victims across the country and sent the money to Nigeria, Fox News is reporting. According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, Ifeanyichukwu, was one of four people arrested following a 17-month, multi-agency task force investigation. It is reported that he is a ringleader of the “Yahoo Boys” gang in Nigeria, that sent $1.32 million in stolen money to Africa during a two-month span in 2019, He was convicted of engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of property of more than $300,000. During court hearings, it was revealed that the group is connected to callers in Nigeria who sc#m the elderly into sending money to their online love interest. "These Nigerian sc#mmers are calling our retired-elderly population all through the night, waking them up, stressing them out and compelling them to send their money far and wide," said Assistant Criminal District Attorney Lori Varnell, who prosecuted the case. They said his 20-year prison sentence for theft and engaging in criminal activity reflects the vast amount of money he was laundering overseas. Prosecutors are still working cases against the other three members of the "Yahoo Boys." The other three people indicted in the case are; Saheed Akinyemi, 33, for engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of property between $30,000 and $150,000; Olusegun Odunwole, 35, for engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000 and Obianuju Orakposim, 43, for engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of property between $300,000 and $1 million.
