Can u give me ur full thoughts on Alex? I feel like a lot of the shit he gets is unjustified. If you grow up in a similar environment to most guys, you can understand why Alex is the way they are. It's not exactly easy to be soft or mindful when you have a harsh environment around you. (Idk just a hunch) but it often leads to a lot of blind spots or misunderstandings of the world.

I'm being very vague about plot points and character names here in the faint hope that it may entice some of you to watch this show.

on my... 4th? 5th? rewatch of DARK I'm paying a lot more attention to the character arcs, to figuring out how everyone got to the point they did. For a while the extent of my Adam takes was "haha stupid idiot man point and laugh, you can't even kys correctly" but recently I saw a post that made me stop and think and actually try to empathize with this character. This was immeasurably depressing (which is probably why I hadn't been considering it before).

The material extent of my take hasn't changed- I still think Adam is a truly stoopid person and by far the dumbest out of the three main characters in this show- but the context I have for this has changed a lot. See, each one of these characters is a planner who develops strategies for years down the line and uses all the information at their disposal to make those plans- but the way they get that information, and therefore how much they're able to do with it, is VERY different.

Adam remembers information. Everything he knows he got from his younger self; he functions almost entirely on memory. When he does stuff, like sending his younger self to summer 2019, or sending his sister to the apocalypse, or even attempting to build the God Particle machine in 1888, he's doing it because he remembers how all this stuff happened, and thus needs to keep it that way. Adam never actually seeks out new information, because every time he has in the past, it's absolutely demolished his life. He was investigating at the very beginning of the show- going into the caves, talking to his family members to figure out how much they knew- but at some point, he stops. He's lost that. He no longer views the knot as something to discover or manipulate, he thinks of it as something to escape from, and often completely fails to take others' plans or ideas into account. For 33 years he was sitting on the information that alt-Martha said she knew him, and not once did it occur to him to figure out why she said that or what bearing it might have on his plan. Seriously! If he'd investigated that, he could have altered his plan so it actually worked! And I don't blame him.

Eva generates information. Everything she knows she got from her older selves. Because she has almost absolute control over her own domain, and because she's been working in harmony for almost her whole life, she essentially bootstraps the information back to herself. You could call this working on memory, too, but I think it's a clear enough distinction, since she's actually honest to her younger self once they start working together. We don't have much on Eva, unfortunately, but we do know that her son was responsible for the notebook, and somehow I doubt he went and measured the "megahertz values" of all the cave time travel when they could've just used Adam's notebook and copied them over. (I don't buy that he actually killed Eva, but that's a different story.) Eva's son also works with his younger selves just like she does. Noah and Egon seem to as well, working with her. It's smart, it's thorough, and it totally would have worked, if it hadn't completely backfired.

The White Devil researches information. Out of all the main characters, she seems to do the most research. First off, she's actually a scientist, so naturally it's in her background. Even before she finds out about time travel, she's looking into the incident at the power plant, questioning Bernd about it, and being weird with Tronte. The very first thing she does when she gets access to time travel is go 30 years forward and look herself up. When she can't find her future self again, she realizes she's going to have to do this on her own, and proceeds to do so for the rest of her life. When Eva presents her the opportunity to work with another version of herself, she decides she wants more information, shoots her in the fucking head, and thereby goes and gets it. I'm confident that out of all the characters in this entire show (apart from origin HGT) this character is the only one who has any idea how time travel works or what to do with it. I love her for it.

Jack can't find any more words to say. What is there to say? This man wouldn't let him go for all the money in the fucking world, because he's cute when he cries and his only worth is looking good in front of a camera.

Matthew wrenches Jack's head toward the camera, curling his fingers into Jack's hair.

"You wanna tell them your name, baby boy?" Matthew coos, and the scarf does nothing to hide that he's grinning.

"J-Jack." His voice isn't more than a croak. "Jack Mitchell."

Matthew stops. Completely and utterly stops.

"Say that again," Matthew says, disbelief in his tone, just loud enough to be heard.

"Jack Mitchell," Jack squeaks.

"I fucking knew I recognised you!" Matthew lets go of him and claps in delight. "Kid of Killian Mitchell? Like, for real?"

Jack nods silently. People recognise him often enough, but not really for him, just for his father. He hasn't done any acting in recent years, and he doesn't look enough like his younger self to be recognised for those roles. So his father drags him out at events, pretties him up for the red carpets and the charity balls and tugs at the back of his collar where nobody can see the moment he says a word wrong.

"Oh my God. Oh my God." Matthew's voice is growing frantically giddy. "You're perfect, you're so, so perfect. The views. I'm never gonna be this popular again."

"Fucking kill yourself," Jack hisses.

"Spicy baby boy." Matthew reaches under the table and pulls at something, and Jack gags as the leather around his throat sharply tightens. "You wanna say that again?"

Jack's vision pulses at the edges and he whines. It's tight, but not so tight that he can't breathe at all. Just to hurt.

He's here just to hurt.

"Fuck…" Matthew lets out a breathy laugh. "This is gonna make such a good intro video. You know just how to behave in front of a camera, yeah?"

He does, he knows exactly how to behave, he's behaved for the cameras his entire life, buried every part of himself to look however they want him and that's exactly what Matthew wants out of him too.

Jack takes in a ragged breath the moment the buckle loosens, and lets it back out with a scream. He doesn't know why, and Matthew doesn't stop him.

Matthew just regards him with nothing more than mild amusement.

The end of the scream comes sooner than Jack thought it would, and he coughs, phlegm trapped in the back of his throat. He's still crying, can't stop crying.

"You tire yourself out already, baby boy?" Matthew asks. "Adorable. Lemme turn the camera off."

Jack lays limply as Matthew unbuckles him and lifts him up. His head throbs. Matthew carries him out of the dimly lit room, into an entirely dark one, that Matthew easily navigates through and sits down on top of a mattress, holding Jack around the waist.

"Relax now, baby boy," Matthew whispers. "You can relax now. It's just us."

Matthew presses a soft kiss to the back of Jack's neck, and smiles when Jack flinches away.

"You're so cute," Matthew says, gripping Jack's jaw with his other hand. "I gotta keep you. I'll take care of you off-camera, promise."

"Are you going to kill me?" Jack whispers. "W-When you're done with me?"

Matthew hums, as though he hadn't considered that. Kisses Jack's neck again, then his jaw, then his temple. Jack lets him, because he isn't stupid enough to think that these soft words and touches are anything but a thin layer over a man who has so clearly done this before and felt nothing more than delight.

"Nah," is the eventual answer. "The audience will get bored of you quicker than I will. And I can bring you back out to spice things up. Nah. I'm not gonna waste your pretty li'l face like that."

Matthew kisses him again, at the corner of his mouth, and lingers.

"Keep you for myself," he murmurs. "Yeah. Couldn't let you go to someone else."

Jack keeps still, as the hand on his waist traces upwards along his chest, slips just underneath his sweater to feel the ridge of his collarbone. The scars on Matthew's hands tell stories - teeth marks on his thumb, a faded knife wound through the palm, crescent shaped marks like nails cutting into the skin. If they were from innocent sources, Jack would be surprised. He's not the first, but the others fought.

It's an odd comfort. He'll stay alive, in the videos of him pleading and the reminders of his suffering on his captor's skin, even if he isn't quite here when Matthew's done with him, even if he doesn't figure out how to get the upper hand and escape.

Jack jams his elbow into Matthew's ribs, and the man's only reaction is to pin Jack's arms to his sides. Not even a sound of pain or annoyance.

"Wouldn't do that if I were you, baby boy," Matthew sings. "How about you just let me hold you, huh? Just wanna hold you. Fuck, I think I love you."

Matthew starts murmuring to himself again. Jack doesn't catch most of it, just a vague impression of the word: "Mine."

Kang Yeosang trying to talk to you for the first time is a sight to behold forever, I'm not even joking. You're going to remember that for the rest of your life.

Picture this: he has his signature shy smile, you know the one, he'll stumble upon his words a little and he's gonna caress his nape too. He'll have the biggest smile on his face the moment he has your number tho, he won't try to hide how bashful and a little bit embarrassed he is.

He'll give himself a solid 7 for his performance, but Wooyoung is gonna give him a 5 at max (he's getting teased since the start, poor Yeosang).

He'll take his time when getting to know you. He won't rush any stage of your relationship. He'll take his time to get to know you and for you to know him.

It's about time for him. Trust comes with time, intimacy comes with time and of course, love comes with time.

You might think somewhere in the talking stage he's not that interested because he never made a real move, but no, he's just waiting for the right moment.

You'd go out on "dates" that's not actually called dates (but that's just because he's too shy to be that foward so soon, yes, that's foward to him) but these were the best times of your life.

It was in one of those nights that he started to let loose and be more of himself around you and depending of your reaction, he'll get more and more comfortable.

But now let me tell you, he'd thrive with your compliments. He'll laugh and his ears would get all red, he'll reply with a shy "thank you" and he'll get back to whatever he was doing, but oh no, he's thinking about that for the rest of the day. Man's heart flutter every time he thinks about it.

Also you bet he's gonna brag about it like, "Yeah, my partner told me today [ compliment of the day ]" to the boys and specially Wooyoung.

Omg, he'd love to remind Wooyoung he is single when he gets teased for whatever reason, like, "Oh yeah? Well, at least I have a partner, what about you?"

Since sometimes he can't be with you, therefore he can express his love the way he likes, he spoils you when he comes back from tour or from whatever trip he went for a schedule.

He's random with his gifts too, you never know what you are getting if it's small or big, cheap or expensive. He'll get whatever makes him think about you and the best part of it for him it's to watch you smile because of the things he brought you.

Now, we already know Yeosang isn't one to argue with people, even if said people hurted him. If you guys get in a argument, he'll be quiet the whole time, just looking at the ground or at something else, but don't think he wasn't listening. He was, he feels better this way, to absorb your words only.

But he does this because he doesn't like to see you this upset, it breaks his heart because he was the cause of it.

When you finish, he'll take a little time to collect his thoughts and then he'd say carefully whatever it is on his mind.

If you are really really angry, like screaming, I feel like he'd try to touch you, to hold you so you listen to him. He'd want you to stop, because you don't have to scream, he'd listen. But if you can't, then he'll give you time alone, he won't stay there being screamed at.

Now, back to the time thing. After he feels ready and secure in the relationship. He'll introduce you to his family. They'd know about you since the start too, because he asked some advices to his mom before and she'd make him spill the tea, if you will.

He wasn't nervous at all, he was excited for you to finally get to know them. He was serious about you and he wanted his family to know this as well.

The boys would know you by other means already, but it wasn't face to face until he had you over the dorms and one by one, hour by hour, they came home.

He thought nobody would be home until late, but it was a nice surprise since he didn't need to organize a meeting for everyone to meet you anymore.

He won't let you to be alone with Wooyoung tho, you'd have too much blackmail content otherwise and he'd rather have his peace. (It is bound to happen eventually, he better watch out).

His is an introvert after all, so I think his perfect day is to have you by his side, at home, whoever home that might be, spending the day together.

I'm gonna start with the fact that, he's is the more private of all of the members and this will have an impact on everything else.

He is the one to not even approach you, he'd want this to happen naturally, so someone would introduce you two because you have the same friends and your friend groups intertwines a lot.

He'll not be shy in this bigger friend group at all, specifically if he's not the youngest there. He's joking around, he's being playful and sometimes being a little shit too.

The moment he has to be with you alone, internally he's freaking out, he doesn't know what to say, he's worried he'll seem weird or worse, not fun to be around.

Externally tho? He's so freaking smooth, it doesn't seem like he's trying at all (he's really not, it's just natural rizz). He's naturally charm and fun, he'll seem a little stiff at the beginning, but that's gone with time.

He doesn't have any problem expressing himself, the problem for him would be the introduction part, which someone already did.

The private part comes into play now, because you can't tell if he likes you more than friends and because you usually see him with other people around, you don't know him a deep way.

He doesn't reveal much about the "not so fun" part of himself, so like, you never know about his worries, if there's something bothering him, you can't never tell and even if he has a partner already, you don't know, because he doesn't talk much about his privacy like that.

You'd have to be the one to start texting him, since you both have each others number, but never started a conversation in private before. The moment it starts tho, there won't be an end.

You wouldn't know because he swore to himself to never tell you that, but he was hyping himself up for a while to talk to you alone, but he never did because he couldn't find any excuse to do that.

Now listen, as your boyfriend, there's a constant issue on Jongho's mind, because he wants to show how much he likes you, but the problem is...

... he isn't the biggest fan of touch, although he is much more open when it's you, he feels extremely shy to give you compliments, even though he wants to and he doesn't have that much time available to be close to you, so you throw out quality time too.

Gifts, he shows his love through gifts and yes, the moment the rest of the boys found out this, they were shocked because "Wth, when you became generous with money, Jongho?"

Of course he'll buy you nice things, specially when he's away on tour, but most of the gifts are trinckets and other small things reminded him of you annddd, funny gifts.

Have you seen the stuff he buys the other members on their birthday? That kind of gifts, but also a mug with a reference from a random tiktok phrase you sent him one random day.

This is his way of showing you he cares and he remembers, even when sometimes doesn't seem like it, because he's so busy.

When there's a fight, he's right in the middle. He's really mature for his age, that's a known fact.

He won't scream his lungs out, but he also won't stay quiet. He'll be the type to argue his case and let you do the same, then solve it. He doesn't like when things get out of hand, he won't let it get there.

He'll calmly ask for you both to take a walk and calm down, then resolve the issue like adults.

But if it's a childish argument, he would be less patient for sure. He doesn't like those useless, childish fights, he wouldn't even be part of it. He'd straight up let you talk alone if you don't calm down when he tries to be reasonable.

Because he's a private boy, he would rather have you as far as the other boys as possible and there's a very simple reason, to protect his peace of mind.

He is the youngest of the group, he's their baby. He knows they are going to be so dramatic and he'd be merciless teased for weeks on end.

He took the longest time to even say he had a partner to them, even thought they suspected already and when he said it, it was because he was caught texting you with the wildest grin on his face, clearly a simp.

They made them promise to introduce you to them soon, but he said he would only when you were comfortable (honestly, he knew you didn't care, but he used anything at this point).

The absolute chaos when they actually got to meet you, oh God, it was hell on earth for Jongho (it wasn't that bad, he's dramatic af).

About his parents, I feel like he would be the most traditional within the Korean culture and would only introduce you when he's sure we wants to marry you and really stay with you (you can count that as some years).

About his perfect day? That was long gone, when he could talk to you without funny looks from his members or then teasing him.

He isn't sure how he is the youngest when they are literal children, but life is unfair, I guess.

I just think it needs to be said that adults have to regulate themselves in online spaces in a way that is responsible for minors in fandom spaces. This will be long im sorry.

And im not specifically talking about adults with lists of DNI minors and block anyone at or under a certain age as well as make it clear their blog may not be safe for minors (ie spaces with a lot of nsfw content). Though curating an experience is a big part of being responsible of course. This post though is mostly delving into adults' behavior and how you need to be aware of your behavior.

For example, if you're an adult who purposefully curates a blog dedicated to fandom discourse, harming other people in the fandom, vagueing, and just having general toxicity about people ESPECIALLY when the targets of said harassment and toxicity are often the youngest in the fandom this is something you really need to reevaluate yourself about for a million reasons but including how this harms and serves as a poor example to younger people what a fandom space is meant to be. Like when I see minors involved in these types of toxicity, not to say they shouldn't be informed or held accountable or the ppl harmed should forgive them, but as an adult I mostly feel sad. I feel sad because I hope they're going to be okay when they're my age and look back on themselves. I hope they're safe esp when the adults around them act like this kind of behavior is normal and okay even though they've long graduated high school (even though ot wasn't okay then either for the record). Like does it not bother you that you're an adult who feels superior sending hate campaigns and ask box harassment and cyberbullying to minors on the internet because you're insecurities are that large and you've no ability to regulate them healthily? Does it not bother you that you teach young ppl in the fandom to do similarly by your actions, and affect their experience? Does the harm not bother you?

Because it should bother you. When you grow up especially in online fandom spaces you do need to be more aware of not only your words in general, but how many people may look up to you and use you as example and that you have a responsibility to be healthy online for the sake of yourself, others, and esp the youngest of the fandom.

Because it hurts to think ppl can grow up in fandom to think "oh sending kys and gore and dead animals over [insert discourse] plus potentially bigotry is normal because everyone around me does it and I want to fit in and I also fear speaking up against the adults who do this because you know the harassment".

And you might say "well cup im just gonna block all minors the end I get to harass people forever hahaha haha!" And well okay, but for another post (plus ones I've made before) there's still a million reasons this is fucked up you see but I'm just focusing on one aspect rn in this post.

And then there's the adults in fandom who all of a sudden hit my age and all they do is belittle kids and the way they act and there is all of a sudden a Certain Maturity that needs to be upheld for Everyone but Especially Adults.

So on the first point this includes adults who are like "I hate kids!!!! They are so [insert anything negative]" and it includes any comment to meta/writing/art/etc that is like not allowing a younger person in fandom to grow. Like the way I talked as 11 years on the internet was incomprehensible and frankly would've been subject to "omg kids are so cringe ew!" For sure these days, ig I was lucky my online friends were also 11 at the time. Looking at my old fandom Meta posts when I was 15, like I could imagine the way I see adults talking about takes like "oh shit I was worse!" Which is just a bag full of insecurity for me, but I also can't imagine being young in fandom and directly experiencing such critiques all the time. Like does it not bother you, once again? That you don't want to see kids in fandom grow into their creativity and co-exist safely in fandom as they do in public and experience overall and public joy? Why do you hate I mean hateee kids as an adult and why does their joy spark hate and misery in you (you might need therapy or to work that out srsly). And do the effects of your actions not bother you? What do you think you're doing other than silencing the creativity and joy in people and invoking ways to people please or for minors to Act Mature (in reality acting the way these adults want to avoid harassment ofc!) Instead of of course just experiencing joy and fun and community as they would normally.

And that brings me to my last pt of the effects of you hit [adult age] and must Act Mature and not Care About Cringe Fandoms or Watch Cartoons and do anything that would indicate you god forbid Don't Have a Real Job. This is the reality for growing up in fandom its finite once you're 19 no more Cringe of course /s! Because I've been subject to this take before as a criticism, and I've seen essays about how adults who watch Bluey are destroying the world forever, and I can take it because I go to therapy and I'm secure in my own maturity where it matters and joy where it matters. But imagine how younger people in the fandom feel. Like you're basically telling kids "btw once you're at Adult Age you must stop having fun forever and you must have a Real Job (or Education) and stop enjoying Immature things like fandom (even though I am in fandom btw im not a hypocrite saying this) or you're a freak immature adult who will never grow up". Like wow.

Like the conservative and near unnuanced take of to be Mature you need a real job (whatever that means) and to only watch adult shows in a normal manner (again whatever that means) aside, like you're really telling kids to grow up and be insecure. I'm serious! Like of course as you grow up it's important to mature no duh, but with real maturity means realizing there are times to be serious and there are times to enjoy things. Maturity doesn't mean I can never watch bluey god forbid else I have a not real job or become media illiterate as a consequence (esp when actually marketing wise a lot of kids shows are meant to also be entertaining for adults watching with their kids... and lo and behold your media literacy doesn't go away magically the moment the show starts). Like you really want younger ppl in fandom to be miserable and grow up miserable and create a cycle of miserable lest they become Cringe Adults that watch a harmless cartoon and enjoy it.

I'm never good at ending rants like this but conclusion. Get a grip on yourself and insecurities and be really careful how you foster fandom community for yourself but also to those that grow up in these spaces too.

Return to origin holiday special part 2 finale

It's been about 3 days since the holiday party and Barb had eaten the origin fruit and everything was going fine in Pop village.

Poppy was busy getting ready to help Bridget with her wedding and Branch was off helping King Gristle at the moment with preparations.

She was off to go get some recipes to use for the party when Debbie showed up and flew up to her holding a letter. "Oh it's already that time? Man it sure does pass quickly I swore it was like it was only yesterday" Poppy jokes as she pets Debbie's fur.

Debbie feeling tired from the flight rests beside Poppy for the moment and she happily beging to pet the little bat as she opens up the letter.

'Yo Poppy

It's Barb I decided I'm gonna write as the days progress so right now it's the day after I ate that glitter bomb of a fruit and right now I'm so ITCHY! WOW HOW DID YOU TWO DEAL WITH THAT?!

Also along with this stupid itchiness my back has been hurting nothing too bad but it's very annoying. Thanks to these 2 annoyances I can't even rock out properly. I decided I'm gonna use my rage room for now until this stupid phase ends.

Apparently next are the fangs I can't wait to get them! Well wish me luck tomorrow but for you it's the next part of this letter.'

Day 2

Yo so uhm I got my fangs they are cool and all but why did some of my other teeth also get sharp? Like all of my front teeth are now sharp,they aren't as long as my fangs but still.

I don't hate them though far from it I love them to death they make me look so cool! Bet it's a rock troll thing but I'm doing what your little loverboy said and I'm writing this down even if I hate doing this ugh

But yeah I bit into some meat and there were my old teeth I'm so keeping them btw after that my other teeth were hurting for the entire day that wasn't fun but still

Oh also back is still hurting btw I checked it out I have these 2 bumps on them I should probably be concerned but I really don't care it's not like they have prevented me from doing anything so I don't care

Anyways time to Wait for tomorrow ugh I really don't want those pads they make me look so....cutesy ugh'

Poppy is now beginning to get worried for her friend. There's bumps on her back now?! And her other teeth are sharpened?! She quickly tries to calm herself down again it is probably just a rock troll thing.

Day 3

Alright so I'm getting pawpads but the weird thing is I'm only getting them on the palm of my hands for some reason?

Well I'm not complaining that's for sure they are tolerable that's all I'm saying for now

Well that's all that's going on for now but before I go I noticed my pupils are becoming more slitted that's cool and those bumps on ky back are bigger now and for some reason i can sort of move them? Anyways later Poppy gonna go rock out for a while

Poppy reread that part again,pupils become slitted?! And what does she mean she can move those bumps now?!

She definately needs to tell Branch about this later. Debbie who is now better after resting for a bit gets up and nuzzles her before flying off and Poppy waves off the little bat.

She really hopes Barb is doing alright though.

It's been 4 days since the last letter arrived and Poppy has been anxious she knows how it went for her and Branch she could only imagine what pain Barb went through.

Her tail twitching in anxiousness she waits for the sound of Debbie's wings flapping or even her scent to ease her worries. She has been getting used to her heightened senses it has taken some getting used to though,but now she can mostly handle it.

Soon enough her ears twitch and she can hear the familiar sound and she smiles in anticipation but also in worry.

She quickly takes the letter from the bat who decides to lay in her hair to rest. She uses her claws to tear open the letter and begins to read it.

Day 4

'Alright so I know somethings up cause from that encyclopedia your boyfriend gave me I think somethings different is happening to me right now.

Cause my fingertips are bright red and they feel weird, they don't really hurt they actually feel more numb than anything and they feel more.....hard than anything else. They look like claws they are pointed but unlike yours they sure don't retract or anything like that.

I dig em tho they look cool and I bet I could perform some even more sick rifts with these things!

Well that's all oh and I checked the mirror and yeah my pupils are definately slits now and those bumps are continuing to grow ugh its starting to become hard to wear shirts anymore

Poppy tilts her head "Hmmm?" So looks like rock troll claws are different compared to pop troll claws very good information to know. She begins to read day 5's entry

Day 5

So I now have full on claws on my hands so that's cool. Oh also it seems I don't really have paws compared to you two they are more hand like than paw like.

Anywho got those pads growing on my feet now again I don't have any on my toes just the bottom of my feet feels weird ngl

But that's all for now I have to cut holes in my shirts for those bumps tho my dad knows what they are but he won't tell me he just says I will like how they will turn out whatever that means

Poppy is now more curious as to what Barb will look like but now she is dreading the next days entry that's when it's at its worst. Bracing herself she continues on.

Day 6

That's it

She blinks once twice and rereads it. "Ow? Just ow?" She asks outloud. THAT DOESNT GIBE ANY CONTEXT AS TO WHAT HAPPENED WHAT DOES SHE MEAN OW?!

Her ears lower as she tries to figure out just what Barb meant by 'ow'. That one word alone could mean so many things. Did she get didigrade legs like her and Branch? Did something else happen?

She is left with those thoughts as Debbie flies off back home. She takes the letter and heads back to her pod. She just hopes Barb is alright, she knew what she was signing up for when she ate that fruit but still. She goes to sleep hoping everything will be alright.

It's the next day and Poppy was still busy preparing stuff for Bridget's wedding when her ears perk up and she hears the sound of a angler bus approaching. Looking up she sees it descend and it opens up revealing....Barb and her new self and wow she looks so cool.

Branch who heard the angler bus too heads over to where Poppy is and gapes at Barb. She grins showing off her sharp teeth and jumps down from the angler bus.

"Whats up guys ya like my new look?" She grins as the two take in her appearance. Her fur wasn't as long as theirs for sure but still there. The ends of her fingers have turned into bright red claws and a dark red pawpad was on the palm of her hand.

The same thing goes for her toes as they too have been turned into claws along with her new digigrade legs. Her tail sways behind her,it was the same color as her fur with a bright red line of fur going from the base to near the end of the tip of her tail which is now shaped like a arrow. Her slit pupils look over the two as she gazes their reactions.

"Oh my gosh Barb you look so cool!"Poppy gushes as she looks her over. "If you think this is cool check these out!" She says and turns around showing off "Are those wings?!" Branch exclaims as he looks at the two wings that were folded against Barbs back. They were the same color as her fur with the inside being a bright red.

"Yep our ancestors had wings and such,don't know why we don't know cause these are so cool!" She tells them as her tail wags and the wings give a little flap.

"I honestly can't imagine having wings having a tail is weird enough but even more limbs and appendages? Yeah no" Branch says shuddering at the thought of having wings.

"Can you fly with them?" Poppy asks curiously. "Yep sure can but only for a very short time before I'm exhausted,trust me it's not as easy as you think it took me hours to try and just get off the ground" Barb complains.

"But yeah I'm liking the new look don't regret eating that thing. So you guys want to go hang and do some crazy stuff?" Barb asks with a feral grin. "Uh yeah!" Poppy agree with her tail wagging in excitement. "Uh Poppy maybe we shouldnt?" Branch says a bit apprehensive. Rain by Jocelyn C. DiDomenick 😺

Okay so I finally finished this one and... OHMYGODIMINLOVE. Rain is a webcomic with over 40 chapters (7 print volumes I think) and is seriously one of the best comics I've ever read. I could go on an on about all of the things I love about this one, but for yall's sanity as well as my own, I'm just going to talk about a couple things. Oh and a quick plot description: The comic follows a trans girl named rain as she attends a religious high school and meets other queer people. A lot of stuff happens in the many chapters of this comic, and it variously touches on pretty much everything that one might encounter as a young queer person, both positive and negative.

Okay, so the first highlight for me is the main character herself. I really like her character and as a young trans person navigating being transfem in high school I really connected with a lot of her story. In particular I appreciated the representation of a character who is mostly cis-passing BUT has to go to great lengths to make this happen (at least from the not-so-supportive people in her life). I feel like with trans rep you either get like people who have an uncharacteristically easy time passing or you have people who are portrayed as like a grotesque caricature of trans people (not to say that non-passing trans women are gross or that passing is needs the goal for everyone, but the visual of the like hyper-masculine figure with messy makeup and a dress isn't usually benign). Anyways, Rain is a great main character.

Another character I want to talk about is Ky/Kylie, they are genderfluid and in my opinion done really well. I honestly related to their character a lot because even though I'm technically not genderfluid, I have very fluid desires as far as presenting. I Ky/Kylie starts out not really understanding their own identity and just being like "idk I'm a girl but sometimes I dress up like a guy" and then as the story progresses becomes more confident in their identity as a genderfluid person. The story also considers the struggles of dating for genderfluid people, with a love interest liking them more for one gender identity than another but eventually growing to understand that he can't pick and choose which gender identity he wants Ky/Kylie to have at any moment.

I should probably wrap this up before I start going into every character I love. In general, what makes this story so great is that there is a character for pretty much anyone to connect with (yes, even cishet allies), and all of the characters are done pretty well. I do have a couple minor considerations though. First, the author changed a lot as a person while writing this (I mean she started writing in 2010 and finished literally this year) so the beginning of the comic is definitely a bit outdated with some of its narratives. Though, I think it ends up working out because it generally reads as the characters learning and developing as people, which is something that comics don't always show because of a fear of saying things that are now seen as insensitive. The only other thing is that there are kind a disproportionate number of queer people in Rains community, which at times feels a bit unrealistic given that shes literally at a catholic school, but honestly I can't complain that much cause all of the characters are so much fun!!! Sorry for the extra long review yall, I just had so much to say about this one! 😺

Kody's "pond rant" and what it means

I NEED to talk about the Kody park episode otherwise I will DIE

I used to think that Kody was a villain that was just evil for the sake of evil and was kind of poorly written, but since rewatching the park episode I changed my mind (I still think there's flaws with his writing but anyways)

I don't know if you remember but in the episode where Kody and Freelancer were at the park Kody had this whole rant about the park pond being dirty

At first I thought he was just being like "waaah waaah I'm a water elemental and I'm connected to dirty water how grossdd" and it was partially that but there was a deeper message.

I'll type out the whole rant so you can see:

"See that water? This city loves to tout that this park has a "gorgeous built-in water feature". It's a hole in the ground with a cheap, flimsy fountain in the middle of it. The pump gets so full of debris from the litter people throw into the water that it doesn't even pump half of the time. And it reeks. That's the glory of unprocessed unattended gray water at play. It might as well be sewage at this point. But it's water. It's the same stuff that courses through your body. That revitalizes you, keeps you clean, keeps your thirst slacked. It's the same thing that connects every scrap of land on this god forsaken planet. I can feel it. Not with my hands, nothing that trite. I can feel it. In my senses, in my core. My powers touch it, and it touches back. The water is disgusting, you can see the scum in it, the trash that has been thrown in it. I'd never swim in it and I'd certainly never drink it. But it's connected to me. Irrevocably, inescapably. That algae-ridden sewer water is a part of me. One that I can't sever myself from. All I can do is stare at it, wish someone would come clean it, or wish that it was just gone. Just fill the hole, start over. It'd be better for everyone, even if it was a loss. I hope you understand the gravity of what you did."

And if it weren't obvious enough, later:

"People look at me like they look at that scum-filled puddle."

If you still don't get it: Kody is basically making a metaphor.

He is the puddle. He's a bad person, but (in his mind) there's nothing he can do about it. He just wishes that someone would come and fix him, or just wishes he was simply, dead.

I first thought that this was simply the classic manipulation tactic of saying that you're gonna kys to make the victim feel bad and summit to you in the worries that you might actually do it but,

The thing is, everything that he's saying in this metaphorical rant goes against everything he's said before and after it

He is constantly saying that he's actually the victim, that he was just trying to help them and that everyone just pulled out their pitchforks and convinced them that he was in the wrong

But in this rant, he admits that he's a bad person and needs help.

And he usually doesn't speak in these metaphors for no reason.

It really seems like a silent confession, wether or not FL got it or just thought he just started ranting about about the dirty puddle for no reason, we don't know

He recognized that he's a bad person and needs help, but his idea of getting help is someone coming up to him with a magic wand and declaring "there! You're fixed! You can go out and live in society now!"

He doesn't recognize that the only person who can fix him is himself. Clearly when he got counselling but didn't seem to get any better, it's because he couldn't even admit out loud that he is the problem, he possibly even started believing his own lie.

He was a loner who couldn't get close to a person, so he sought after a person who was unknowledgeable and unaware of his doing. When that person eventually found out and he was pushed to a corner, he turned on the defensive and started gaslighting and manipulating like his life depended on it. Once that didn't work, he just went away to a new place where nobody knew he did anything wrong in the first place.

I always see people saying or implying that Kody didn't really get a deserving punishment for his actions, but I disagree

Because it's just going to keep happening to him.

Until he admits to his wrongs, he's just going to keep doing wrong things and then running away when he can't gaslight everyone around him.

Also he like, got completely decked by Damien in the inversion

I hope it's clear by my wording but I don't think that just because Kody has suicidal thoughts that suddenly means that he's absolved of all his wrong doings, he is very clearly supposed to be an antagonist, I'm just not the kind of person to quickly get rid of and stuff a character into a box before sending them flowing down the river just because they're a bad person and hurt my pwecious wittle babies

While there is some things about Kody's storyline that I didn't like I definitely see that he's a much deeper character than I first thought.

I definitely think Levi probably gets into heated flame wars with people online over random details from anime and such. Considering the way he can rant about something irl, it just seems likely to me that he would do that just as much online, too.

Belphie is just a little punk, so no surprises there.

The thing about Asmo is I think he'd only be mean online to someone who he believed truly deserved it. He doesn't have time to send internet hate, he's too busy being fabulous. But if someone crosses him or even worse one of his brothers or the absolute worst MC, well... then I think he could have the capacity for it lol.

But I wouldn't forgive them until they apologized if I found out about it lol.

Second review of the 3 anime finale on Toonami: Rick and Morty the Anime

I will preface this by saying (and I humbly ask for no personal attacks on this) that I honestly do not like normal Rick and Morty to begin with.

Don't read if you don't vibe with that. RnM fans tend to be very... extra, in some regards, taking too much after Rick- so that's the warning, you'll be in for a bad time if you like the base show and wanna read further.

The reasons I dislike regular RnM is because the art style is gross and ugly for the sake of being gross and ugly, and the writing reeks of depressed nihilistic cynicism that shits all over any character that dares to want something normal or even happy, and the comedy writing is just not really that funny beyond a couple of jokes. I hate Rick- I have seen episodes, multiple before, and I just can NOT stand him. "Oh great you didn't know this very impossible to know thing and now you fucked up, great, real classy, you should feel bad and or kys" or "I personally don't like you and I'm going to make it the multiverse's and my family's problem" are not traits I find admirable (and no, he doesn't really get much better, he's still an asshole no matter how much development he gets). The family isn't really much better tbh and all hate each other, something I hate about modern adult cartoons including the ugly art style and grossness just to be gross. That's just my opinion, I get that people like the show (it's been renewed for like a seasons 8, 9, 10, and 11 already), but I honestly cannot grasp it.

So why watch the anime? Well, it was on Toonami, may as well, and I thought with different writers it might be different too. I did mildly enjoy some of the tone shift from one of the other anime shorts, which made Rick vaguely less of an asshole and more like someone that actually cares about his family beyond how they personally benefit him- so I wanted to give it a shot.

Its............ it's uh..... well, it happened. I think I can say that. That's not good or bad. Just... yeah. Mid.

There's a severe tonal shift from (badly written) adult comedy with an ugly art style that thinks "Morty, we gotta fight the Dick Clenchers of Splotchulon 5, Morty, you'll never guess why they're called that, Morty, its- it's because they clench your dick, Morty. Now help me work on my shit machine that shits actual shit" is funny, to something that REALLY tries to take itself super seriously with a ton of angst and drama- like if Family Guy (also hate it) suddenly tried to make a live action season without its bad comedy and references and instead decided to make a dramatic, murder mystery plot line over a season without a SINGLE joke or flashback, played completely seriously. In other words, it is really unsettling to see a show so disingenuous try to be genuine, but just come across as weird and off putting.

And while I can say I didn't hate some of the aspects of it, I can't say I really enjoyed or understood most of it either. Elle is a pretty fun character for a bit, but doesn't really have much personality beyond being in love with Morty and being some kind of time perceiver. The other characters are also weirdly characterized to be less consistent with their regular counterparts- I mean there's still a couple of moments where Rick is an asshole to Morty or Jerry or where Summer is vaguely a bitch like usual, but otherwise they may as well be completely different characters. I guess the canon material would allow this as an AU in the multiverse, but it's still... weird. Very weird. I would prefer anime Rick over real Rick because again, he's LESS of an asshole and kind of mysterious- but mid overall.

The plot is also weird and overly complex for what it's supposed to be. I mean it's better than a plot device powered by an infinite wall of tortured Morties, but we're talking about some sections that confuse me so much, that Kingdom Hearts makes more sense to me.

I wish I could say the animation and art style were better, but this is like saying a piece of stained printer paper is better than a dirty toilet. The animation is just blocky, and the characters transition weirdly to this style- like it's an anime, but they want to maintain the gross art style of the original in a vague way. Elle is actually just fine and looks cute in both her versions, but she is also directly created for this series and isn't adapted for anything. Idk I know I'm an outsider and some RnM fan is really tempted to tell me to kms over that, but hear me out on this: if your thing is to make an ugly American cartoon into an anime, maybe try making it look genuine instead of weird and off putting. I mean, it worked for the Simpsons Death Note episode.

Personally, I feel like this anime was just made as a way to get around the Writer's Strike from last year. In fact, I half expected from this episode or a future one for the real series to look at this and be like "oh yeah, that'll show the writers to demand a fair wage. Good thing that's not canon, right? Looks like shit. " it does not feel like anybody's best work and serves more like a fan's overly angst filled AU.

Well anyway, a 5/10 feels fine. Mid as fuck.

1. the possibility that svetlana shared the story about her dad selling her to a pimp in attempt to commiserate - that mickey would not and could not understand given his comparative immaturity, that he thinks that SA on women is fundamentally different, that being told by your dad to do a dangerous illegal job too young is extremely, significantly different if it's sex-related, (though imo it is like. worse. not to discount that. but i think most viewers caught that the idea of being forced to beat someone as a child is Horrifying and easy to infer in mickeys past) and that women are on the whole significantly more vulnerable to abuse - a belief shared with ian, seen also in immediate reaction to mandy's abuse, disregard for mickeys own fear of svetlana + that they both think it's embarrassing to be afraid of his wife

2. mickey mentioning svetlana having "a roof over her head and food in her stomach" (not exact phrasing) in s4 being the same things svetlana says her dad did for her to kev and v when yvon shows up ie, presumably his "good qualities, too" -- maybe she said this to mickey before and he's echoing it, or they have the same thought processes again here. maybe even that he articulated verbally to svetlana here what it was that she had seen as a "good quality" in her dad that she deliberately borrows phrasing later

3. mickeys extreme chill-ness when people try to compare traumas - both in fiona's mom maneuver at the psych ward "oh yeah imagine you were EIGHT and it was your MOM" & in ian bringing up frank when terry died - mickey doesn't even bother to take offense even though these were kind of rude. indicative of probably a "well it could always be worse" philosophy about his own life -- i think svetlanas life might be his example if prompted with "what tf do you even mean it Could've been worse??" & why he's just like "gross! whatever" when she dropped nightmarish lore. also sorry i think a non reaction is kinder when someone shares something like that with you. svetlana sort of rhetorically weaponizes how cartoonishly awful her whole life was in arguments but i can't imagine her responding well to someone "aww poor baby"ing her for real

4. does anyone else think it's significantly more fun if mickey and svetlana can't Stand each other but have this understanding of being the same in some respects. as in, they could never actually Be friends, but if they hadn't both been mercilessly written off might have described themselves as such if only for a lack of actual terminology for their whole deal

-> "mickey and svetlana could've been friends in another universe" first of all No I think they're similar enough that they would always drive each other crazy. by fate. second of all i like that they like each other and care what happens but can't stand each other. i think if svetlana was in serious danger* mickey would probably drop everything to help and she'd be like "thanks for your assistance terrible idiot ex husband" and he'd be like "kys" and then they wouldn't speak for another five years

*"serious danger" defined as however intense something would have to be for her to actually feel compelled to reach out. given she (& mickey) are both very "i'm here ain't i 🙄" about "how bad is your pain"
