hm. yeah. i don't know if i agree w the fanfiction booktok connection ppl r making. like there is some nuance to it. there is a very specific type of fanfiction that is being published as books rn (bad ones by mediocre rich white ppl). like, there is more to fanfiction than romance first of all 😵‍💫. some fanfiction just adds context to the text it's from. overall, there is a lot of bad fanfiction, but there is a lot of good fanfiction too! unfortunately, the bad fanfiction is oftentimes more popular than the good fanfiction, which i think is why booktok is the way that it is. probably speaks to the weird prioritization people have of a very specific dull type of romance over all other things. ultimately, i think it's a symptom of the fact that we are living in hashtag anti intellectual times rather than anything else.

eun jisoo x jang manwol   -   oh boy, why can I see this as a slightly different Security Guard at Hotel del Luna AU, where Jisoo stays on for a sec as staff so she can wait to see the rest of her family, and while she’s there she resumes her Police-y duties and helps Manwol Out w/ stuff? And then they sort of have a flirtationship, because they’re awful and like that? Alternatively if you’re into historical stuff (I say as I remember you haven’t finished the show yet) - we YEET firefly boy and replace my girl as the guard (tm) bc why not?

yehua x li jing   -   tbh with the amount of shippage we already have, it’s b a s i c a l l y guaranteed we’re going to get a repeat when we leave things Up To Fate. but hey, glad to know fate thinks these two good dumb bois should be together too.

hae soo x yoon haeju   -   wow, we were literally talking about these two as friends a sec before and now they show up in the ship roulette? I...don’t know how well they would go together, given I think they’re very alike in that they both think a lot and a lot of things are introspectively understood, but also act and react differently with that information? I think Haeju is what Soo could never be and vice versa, in a way, so it’d be interesting from a purely personality standpoint to see how it would play out, but on the other hand I think they’d drive each other crazy. Haeju gets into the gray area pretty comfortably whereas Soo I think when not in her comfort zone has to eliminate the gray area entirely and only see what is Dangerous and what Isn’t.

mei changsu x lian song   -   you know, funnily enough, I don’t think we have a ship where Lian Song is hella gay, so IDK if this even swings? But on p a p e r - it both can and can’t work. It’ll have to occur in the mortal realm, for one. For two, Mei Changsu’s primary focus is justice/revenge and I don’t see him pausing for anyone, and frankly I don’t think Lian Song would approve of his particular methods. Even aside from that I think they’re both too aware of Exactly What they Can and Can’t Have? Lian Song’s a whole god, and Mei Changsu knows he’s dying within the next ten years. So I think the closest we get is the angst of the two of them being stuck having and suppressing quiet emomos. They would get along very well though, in either a shippy or friendshippy case. I think mostly Mei Changsu is relieved to have someone On His Level so to speak (even tho Lian Song is possible above) in terms of...uh, being real clever with the scheming. Plus I think he admires Lian Song a bit because Lian Song is everything Lin Shu was before Lin Shu was branded a traitor and had to change his face and name to come back and uncover the story of the past through less than savory means.

ji euntak x yoon jongwoo   -   wow, ok, suddenly I have a Weird need for an AU where Euntak can see Moonjo’s ghost over Jongwoo’s shoulder. But, that spontaneous idea aside - idk that they work s u p e r well? He vibes more like a Grumpy Big Brother type for her? Which, ngl, hit me up for that dynamic too if u want, I’m a found fam h o e, and somehow Serial Killer Big Bros + tiny Ghost Seeing Baby is a weird dynamic that kind of works. Anyway, on a shippy vibe, I think Euntak is used to a certain level of w e i r d but strangers from hell weird is....uhhhh, not it, oops.
