I am now about halfway through Possession by AS Byatt and I could not love it more.
#booklr#i have heard it said over and over again that this book is smug/pretentious/overwritten#which of course it very much is#but when I hold it to my heart I feel joy#I love it with a love that is more than love#I read a LOT and it’s been a long time since I have loved a novel quite this much#it looks very set to be my favourite book if the year#epistolary fiction my beloved#Victorian poets my further beloved#academic women repressing strong emotions my dearly beloved#weird class conflict that makes no sense to anyone outside the UK my simultaneous beloved and beloathed#John Donne references my beloved#campus novels my beloved#romance based on true and sincere friendship my ultimate beloved#Peter and Harriet reference my beloved#it’s like AS Byatt looked into my heart and wrote a novel specially for me#if this novel suddenly becomes rubbish in the second half I will weep
