What I‘ve seen:

-main people working on it mainly do superhero movies, including Morbius guy, and not remotely anything that’s even nearly the same vibes as Zelda

-people who come from botw/totk or oot wanted 2D because those games really fit the vibe of ghibli style anime

-flashbacks to pretty much every videogame live action-Adaptation ever

-live Action is easy to screw up for fantasy movies especially in this day and age of using so much cgi, that tends to be overused and look pretty cheap nowadays, especially in recent Superhero movies

-Zelda is a lot easier to screw up than Mario

-talking Link + him in general being a big anomaly in major gaming mcs in regards to stereotypes that‘ll probs be added back by Hollywood

-In regards to the one above: The issue isn’t the actor being "a white guy“ (I personally never came across that criticism? If anything it was the fear of casting a white guy for Ganondorf?) but the closest I saw was that the actor‘s most likely gonna be the most generically bland dude ever. Leading to:

-Tom Holland. Some people simply don’t like him because he was in marvel movies (kinda stupid but w/e), but when people complain he often seems to be more of a a stand-in for "big name guy who only got the role so they could say he’s in it and not because he actually fits the character“. Idk, of all the generic major Hollywood folks he seems to be one of the least bad fits, at least. And hey, return of brown haired Link. That’d be cool.

Add to that, if it happens whoever’ll be cast probs won’t care much about the source material and that’s always gonna show. Like how the only one who got flag in Mario was Chris Pratt, the guy who cared the least. It’s why there was the occasional "I‘ll watch the movie/take talking Link if the actor is new“ flying across.

As for why Tom in particular: it’s because of some AI images from last year or so that cast him as Link and were spammed obnoxiously often by every news site ever.

And smth i haven’t seen often and what’s personally my biggest fear: a loss of sincerity. The world of Zelda feels, for all accounts and purposes, very sincere. Especially in its weirder parts and quirks, which are rarely played as jokes, and even then always with some sort of sincerity. If this movie turns out to be anything less than a passion project, that‘ll fall flat. Given the state of cinema and superhero movies, a lot of those things might be sanded down for blockbuster purposes.

…also Miyamoto screwed up with Zelda before. Have you ever heard about the development of Links Crossbow training? It’s kinda dreadful. Dude single-handedly nuked what would’ve essentially been a fully planned out sequel to TP because he wanted a party game where Link gets Isekai-d into Modern Day Tokyo in a "Terminator style plot“.

So there’s a low-albeit-genuine chance that’s what we‘ll be getting after all.

My personal hope is that this’ll be a One Piece situation! That It‘ll have lots of ooc things especially regarding the characters, but that it still holds true to the feeling of the original.

Why is everyone hating on the legend of Zelda movie already? Everyone freaked out about the Mario movie too but Nintendo nailed that- everyone was scared about TOTK but Nintendo nailed that. Wes ball is an amazing director- as any fan of my page will know, I love maze runner! Miyamoto is a co-producer!! You have to trust Nintendo. Trust them to put out good things. Don’t hate on something that you don’t even know what it’s about. When I saw the news I was so excited! But then I go on tumblr and everyone is mad that their even daring to attempt this movie. That they are probably going to cast a white guy in the role of link (as if that’s necessarily a bad thing, when he’s litterally white in almost all the games?) and saying how they don’t want to go see it because they know nintendos going to mess it up?
