#I literally tear up every time I hear that broken hiss whine of his respirators when they get damaged#It’s also why I’ll never understand why people say he never suffered any consequences for his actions#Him being put in that abomination of a torture device for 20+ years is the consequences (@justsuffilike)
Right??? It's ridiculous to suggest otherwise. Anakin's entire story is replete with narrative consequences. He commits murders and then loses the offending limbs. He Force chokes Padme and then loses the ability to breathe on his own for the rest of his torturous physical existence. He falls into spiritual darkness and quite literally burns in 'hell'. He turns to the Dark Side to save the ones he cares about most, and then has to linger on with the torment of losing them anyway and the belief that it was all his fault.
Anakin is a demi-god, created specifically to suffer and ultimately sacrifice himself in order to bring Balance to the Force. Since the Prequels are a tragedy, it happens via the 'darkest timeline'. He commits ill deeds, but he's also undeniably a victim of the most evil being in the galaxy. He is captured and enslaved by the Devil for half his life until he's finally, finally freed through the only power that could free him: personal connection, compassion, unconditional love. This is a mythic fairytale about a fall and a redemption. The entire point is that love ends the cycle of retaliatory violence.
I know we like to give Anakin shit for being all “I can’t live without her” about Padme, but he’s not wrong.
Anakin’s heart literally stops the moment Padme dies and its only the Empire’s machinery that keeps his carcass moving for the last half of his life until that too fails.
