I recently picked up the first volume of Can’t Fear Your Own World because, well, I was surprised the bookstore even had it, and because I’ve been intensely curious about the light novels since I finished the manga

Haven’t read it yet but I’ve paged through to see the illustrations and I was so absurdly pleased to see my favorite murderous kitty’s face multiple times

“developed an obsession” i know they’re talking about Grimmjow wanting to kill Ichigo but i still think this is the funniest way to phrase that. just. obsessed with Ichigo. yeah we know you don’t gotta spell it out in black and white lmao

You Couldn’t Keep Me Away

Chapter 6

The next morning Asami woke up and dressed. She sat in front of the mirror playing with her looks, only to just look the same as she always did. She finally willed herself out the door of her room. She walked nervously to the Captain’s quarters. She took a deep breath and walked in only to find the room empty. On the table there was a note. It had her name on it. She opened it and began to read it. “Dear Asami,        I’m afraid certain duties have me out of my quarters today. I have paperwork on my desk that needs to be completed. On other matters meet me in the garden tonight after dinner, we need to talk, I should be back by then.

Asami stuffed the note in her pocket and began on the paperwork. She wondered what the garden would hold tonight when she’d be face to face with the Captain since their kiss. Her face turned red at the thought of the kiss. She still couldn’t believe it had happened. She shook her head then focused back on the paperwork. This paperwork was different. A note on the top read ‘Take copy to Seireitei Communicatioin’. It wasn’t really paperwork, but the beginnings of a story called ‘Sōgyō no Okotowari!’. Asami read over the first page before copying it. She smiled when she realized it was a story for children. She happily read the story as she copied it. She never knew Captain Ukitake was quite the writer. When she finished she put the original writing back on the Captain’s desk then bound up the copy to take to the Seireitei Communication in Division 9. She put on her sandals and headed to Division 9.  Once there she handed the copy to the lieutenant Shuhei Hisagi. “Have you read it?” he asked Asami. “Yes. I think the kids are really going to love it.” She replied. “We’ve never really done a children’s section so hopefully you’re right.” He said flipping through the pages. “I guarantee it’ll be a hit.” Asami assured him. “Alright. Thanks for bringing it.” Shuhei said. “Not a problem. Have a nice day.” Asami said bowing. She then left to go by the 4th Division to pick up so more medicine. “You look like you’re doing well.” Captain Unohana said when she saw Asami. “Captain!” Asami said with a smile. She wanted to hug her, but knew it would be highly inappropriate. “How’s Captain Ukitake’s health been?” she asked her. “He’s had a few moments of illness, but the medicine seems to help.” Asami said to her. “Good. Take as much as you need.” She replied. “Thank you.” Asami said bowing. “Have a good rest of your day.” She said bowing then went her way. When Asami finished gathering the medicine together she made her way back to Division 13. Once back in Division 13 Kiyone and Sentaro roped her into doing work with them. By the time she finished helping Kiyone and Sentaro it was dinner time. Asami cleaned herself up before going to eat. Once in the mess hall, Asami said next to Rukia again. “I talked to my brother. He said he didn’t mind if you ate with us.” Rukia said with a smile. “Really?” Asami said somewhat surprised. “Yeah.” “That’s great!” Asami said nervously. Was it really okay for someone like her to eat with a noble? “We can go tomorrow night if you’d like.” “That sounds good to me.” Asami said still nervous about the whole situation. “Great. It’ll be fun.” Rukia replied. The two then talked of other things. Soon Asami finished dinner and bade Rukia farewell. She soon made her way to the garden nervously. When she arrived the Captain wasn’t there yet, making her even more nervous. She paced back and forth, then sat down. After sitting for a moment she got anxious and began to pace again. “There’s nothing to be nervous about.” A voice behind her said, startling her. She turned to see Captain Ukitake standing there with a smile on his face. She bit her lip and quickly bowed to him. “Good evening sir.” She said. “Good evening.” He said bowing to her. “I suppose you know why I asked you to meet me here.” He said to her. “Y-yes.” She said nervously looking down. “I’m in love you Asami.” The Captain finally said after a moment of silence. “I don’t know how it began, but last night, I had to kiss you.” He said turning red as he coughed nervously. “Do you or could you possibly feel the same about me?” he asked looking intently at her. Asami looked back at him her mouth open a bit in shock. The Captain was in love with her? She did love him though. It was gradual over time but when he kissed her it confirmed her feelings for him. “I do.” She said blushing and looking down. She felt his hand lift up her face towards him. “You do?” “Yes.” She said looking into his emerald green eyes. A kind smile went across his face as he leaned in and kissed her again. She kissed back. Again another passionate kiss ensued between the two of them. The Captain’s arms were wrapped around Asami’s waist as hers were around his neck. “I love you.”  He said breaking off the kiss. She looked up at him and smiled. “I love you too.” She said a little out of breath. “Will you be my girlfriend?” he asked her, holding her hands in his. She thought a moment, of all it would entail to be his girlfriend. He was older than she was, and he was often sick. But she loved him. “Yes.” she said to him happily. A relieved look came across his face. He smiled and hugged Asami close. “I’m so happy.” He said excitedly. “Me too, sir.” Asami said still in shock at what was happening. The Captain’s lips met hers again for a quick kiss. “You don’t have to call me ‘sir’ anymore.” He said. “What do you want me to call you?” Asami asked him as he still held her in his arms. “Jushiro will be just fine.” He said smiling down at her. “Jushiro.”Asami said nervously with a blush on her face. He kissed the top of her head. “You’re so cute.” He said pushing hair out of her face and placing it behind her ear. He kissed her forehead. Asami reddened at his touch. “When you make faces like that, it makes me want to kiss you more” he said with a little laugh. Asami turned completely red. “Sorry.” She finally said regaining her composure. “Don’t be. It’s one of the things I like about you.” He said stroking her hair softly. “You just make me…” Asami began. “I make you what?” he asked with a smile. “Feel things I haven’t felt before. This is all new to me.” She said honestly. “I’ve never kissed anyone before. Last night was the first time. It’s because you make me feel things I haven’t felt before. This is new to me too.” He replied. “You seem to know what you’re doing though. I don’t know where to start.” “I haven’t a clue what I’m doing. I mean I asked Shunsui a few questions, but that’s it.” He said. “You mean Captain Kyoraku knows about this?” Asami said embarrassed. “He’s the only one that knows. I’d like to keep it that way if it’s alright with you.” “That’s fine.” Asami said a bit relieved no one else would know about their relationship. “I just don’t want all the hype surrounding our relationship. I want to keep it quiet and between us. At least until the time is right to tell others.” He explained. “I agree. I’m fine with that.” Asami replied with a smile. Jushiro smiled back then kissed Asami gently on the lips. “It’s getting late. I’ll walk you back to your room.” Jushiro said to Asami. The two of them walked side by side back to Asami’s room. Once there Jushiro looked around for a moment before planting a goodnight kiss on her lips. He wrapped his arms around her and gave her a hug. He then let go and released his lips from her. “Good night my dear.” “Good night, Jushiro.” Asami said happily. A smile spread across her face as she watched Jushiro walk back to his quarters. She shut her door then got into her night clothes. Once she was ready for bed she slipped under the covers and happily fell asleep.

The next morning Asami woke up and got ready for the day. She got dressed, brushed her hair, and ate breakfast before heading to Jushiro’s quarters. When she entered he was busily talking to Kiyone and Sentaro.

“Oh, hello Miss Asami.” Kiyone said happily.

“Good morning.” Sentaro said.

“Good morning.” Asami said bowing.

“Here’s your paperwork for today.” Jushiro said handing a stack of paper to her. She took it and bowed then went to sit at the table. Jushiro continued to speak with Kiyone and Sentaro. Asami began the paperwork.

“Miss Asami. She could do it.” Kiyone said loudly to Jushiro.

“Yeah, she would be perfect.” Sentaro said.

“Let’s ask her.” Jushiro said looking over at her. Asami turned towards them.

“What can I do?”

“We have an assignment in the World of the Living that needs to be filled. Its only for two days. Would you like to go?” Jushiro asked. An assignment to the World of the Living was something Asami always dreamed about. Being in Division 4 they never went to the World of the Living. Their duties were strictly to the Soul Society.

“I’d love to!” Asami said excitedly.

“Alright then, that settles it.” Jushiro said to Kiyone and Sentaro.

“When do I start?”

“Tomorrow.” Kiyone said.

“We’ll set everything up. Just report to our office tomorrow morning.” Sentaro said.

“Alright I can do that.” Asami said happily.

“Wonderful.” Jushiro said. “You two are dismissed. Please let the others know of their assignments.” He added to Kiyone and Sentaro.

“Yes sir!” they said in unison. They both got up and left the room.

“Are you sure you can handle this assignment?” Jushiro asked Asami.

“I haven’t been on an assignment in a long time. But I can do it. Where am I being sent to?”

“A town called Karakura.” He said reading the paper on his desk.

“Karakura? Is it very big?”

“It’s fairly small.” He replied.

“I can’t wait.” Asami said with a smile.

“Just be careful.” Jushiro warned.

“I will be.”

“Come here a moment.” He said to her. She got up and then sat in front of him. He leaned down and kissed her. “Good morning.” Asami heard him say softly. She blushed but returned the favor.

“Good morning.” She said back to him.

“Do you want to eat dinner with me tonight?” he asked her.

“I would love to. I have dinner tonight with Rukia though.”

“At her home? With Captain Kuchiki?” he asked intrigued.

“Yes.” Asami said nervously.

“That’s out of character for Byakuya. I can’t wait to hear how it goes.” Jushiro said with a cheeky grin. Asami playfully hit him.

“I’m already nervous as it is, don’t make it worse.” Asami said burying her head into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head.

“You’ll be fine.” He reassured her.

“I read your story.” She said lifting her head up to look at him.

“You did? Did you like it?” he asked her excitedly.

“I think it’s just perfect for children. That’s what you were going for right?” she asked.

“Yes, it’s what they asked me to write after my last story.” He replied.

“Last story? What was that one about?” Asami asked. Jushiro truned a little red then cleared his throat.

“A man who fell in love with a goddess.”

“You have to let me read it sometime.” Asami told him with a smile. He smiled back and placed the hair in her face behind her ear.

“When you get back from the World of the Living I’ll let you read it.” He said putting his pinky in hers to signal a promise.

“I can’t wait.” She said giving him a kiss on the cheek.

“I’ve told you, you’re adorable right?” he asked caressing her cheek. She smirked to herself. She loved it when he told her that.

“Not enough times.” She said back to him.

“You needn’t remind me.” He said before he placed his lips on hers. He held her close to himself as he passionately kissed her. She held onto him and kissed him back. Finally he let go of her lips and took a breath in.

“I could kiss you all day. But unfortunately I have work to do.” He said in a breathy voice.

“Then get to work.” Asami said giving him a smile. He gave her one last kiss then let her go. She got up and went back to her paperwork.

A couple hours later Asami finished the paperwork then set it on Jushiro’s desk.

“All done?” he asked.

“Yes. I have to go get ready for tonight and tomorrow.” Asami said to him.

“Alright. You’re free to go.” He said with a smile.

“Can I come see you tonight after dinner?” Asami asked him.

“Of course you can.” He said to her.

“Alright then, I’ll see you tonight.” Asami said bowing to him out of habit. He chuckled as she left out the door.
