god. sorry to add on your post but i was thinking about this exact issue yesterday but specifically as it applies to the trans community. SPECIFICALLY as it applies to people (trans AND cis) deciding that its acceptable to misgender shitty trans people, as if using someone's stated pronouns is a privilege that can be revoked, as if misgendering is a "punishment" for being a "bad trans".

sometimes individual trans people just fucking suck! that does not make them less trans and that does not make it magically not transphobic to misgender them! it is not anyone's prerogative to pick and choose which trans people "deserve" to be gendered correctly! but thats too much nuance for the internet to handle i guess.

people need to accept that some gay/lgbt people are terrible and some gay/lgbt people are boring and it doesnt make them Actually Straight or anything

This post genuinely helped me change my thinking about the end of encanto. My anger towards my own family is my own problem. I don't have the experience of a latino person in a family with generational trauma. I related to Mirabel's want to prove herself to her family, but in an extremely different way because of how I was raised. It is fine for me to be upset with my family. To want to reject them. That is my problem. But to take that anger out on a movie that is not about me or my problems isn't right.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to ask, and I've seen different people with different opinions, but is it wrong to make headcanons for the characters of encanto as a non latino person? I see some traits of neurodivergence in the characters, and my brain wants to help me relate to them in that way. Do let me know, and again if you wish this addition to be deleted i will gladly do so just shoot me a dm!!

you wanna know why it's so beautiful that abuela apologized and made an effort to change at the end of the movie? because this shit doesn't fucking happen in real life latino families. you wanna know what happens in real latino households?

in real life our grandparents die without ever apologizing for hurting you and your parents. in real life our parents make fun of their kids for trying to break the cycle of abuse and for trying to make them get help for their trauma. in real life no one fucking talks about anything, even though you know damn well your grandmother was mistreated by her husband your whole life and that your aunt is trapped in a loveless abusive marriage. in real life latino kids are taught in sunday mass that everytime your father hits you, everytime your mother verbally abuses you, that it's for your own good and that you should never, ever question it. and we put up with it because what else can you do? we're taught that it's normal and we're the weird ones for trying to communicate and help our family heal.

but it doesn't have to be like this. encanto is about latino generational trauma, it's about how our families crack under pressure and how much we hurt inside but above all else it's about healing. it's about helping each other, it's about love.

why can't latino children find comfort in a movie made for them? why can't we see latino families heal? why can't we WANT to help our families? why is that so repulsive to you?

Ooh tough one. For something really important, say if it would help a lot of people, I personally would reblog it. My problem with them is the whole 'do this or else' feel. We're on this stupid sight for our own reasons, people. You can't force anyone to do anything they can't/don't feel like/don't want to do.

Usually yeah! They're fun and it always makes me so happy to think someone thought about to tag me. But sometimes I just. Do not have the spoons. Pretty simple actually… I changed it recently to match my AO3 and FFN pen name XD though they already had it simply as it is on AO3, so I added a 01…

Basically it’s just the fusion of two of my favorite Arrowverse characters.
