Someone donated a trash bag full of crocheted hats to my workplace last week and they're already pretty much gone--hats are very needed right now. Gloves are requested a lot more often, but they're harder to make in a one size fits all sort of way. However ... fingerless mitts are much more universally wearable, and faster and easier to make.
So I'm crocheting some fingerless gloves right now using a variegated ball of wool acrylic blend that I bought for another project and then didn't use. Bc of the color changes they don't really match but hopefully people won't mind, and they keep your hands warm all the same.

Almost done with pair 2 ! I think I have enough yarn for 1 or 2 more pairs. Gonna order some more yarn this evening I think...ideally slightly thicker (this yarn is like barely bulky weight and closer to aran, and I'd love to churn these out if possible, so a thicker bulky would go faster). And in colors that match. I'm gonna safety pin them together so you can tell the pairs (they're all slightly different sizes and im gonna do some extra small and extra large as well) and also, free safety pin.
Anyway, I guess this is partly a PSA--if you're somewhere cold right now and have the ability to knit or crochet some fingerless gloves in washable yarn, they would undoubtedly be needed. Like I said, gloves are hard for organizations to keep in stock since they're more expensive, rarely donated, and go super fast. Whether you just keep a couple pairs on you to hand out to anyone with a sign asking for money (money's also great, but if they don't have gloves already, why not offer ?) or find an organization that works with low income or homeless folks and ask if they take donations, you could really help folks out ! And they're quicker to make than hats as well.
