im not the anon from that previous jjk ask but i'd be super interested to hear ur thoughts about why jjk isn't a tragedy. i've always thought it myself too- like i'd see people say a lot of the writing decisions were made to show the "tragedy" of the story, but i've never really felt that? yeah it would be really sad, maybe even a little tragic, but i kinda felt like that wasn't necessarily the intention behind it. like it would feel tragic but more as a... side effect (?) of the writing choice rather than a deliberate decision to make a tragedy, which results in just a lack of completeness (esp for the characters that are haphazardly killed off). very sorry if this makes no sense at all LOL i'm a bit scatterbrained at the moment- hopefully u can understand a bit of what im trying to say 😭

i’m answering this late i’m sorry!! i’ve been behind on my ask box among other things!!

i’ll detail more of my answer under the cut but the tldr version is tragedy, in writing/storytelling, is it’s own genre with its own set of machinations and workings and is not just “a sad story.” at moments, which i’ll detail below, jjk does it well. but overall, falls short to me and would then be a poorly written tragedy, if it is one at all. also want to be clear that this is mostly in response to the fandom’s assertion that jjk is a tragedy—akutami has never claimed this (to my knowledge) and i’m not coming for them/these thoughts are not directed at akutami or even jjk but the fandom.

also want to say these are just my thoughts as someone with an education in literary analysis, media analysis, and specifically tragedy. i am very passionate about tragedies, since i read, consume, and analyze them as well as embody them on a stage and with my own voice. but it’s also just opinions that you can disagree with or question or be unsure of! i encourage it actually.

now, let’s get into it.

tragedies are about the downfall of a main character, to put it bluntly. usually, our main character has a fatal flaw—or there is a moment, a decision made, that is fatal and sets the whole tragedy into motion.

and more than that and perhaps more importantly, tragedies are warnings.

tragedies show us a sympathetic main character who has too much ambition, or desire for power, or recklessness, or ego, or some other fatal, massive flaw that kick starts everything and brings the tragedy down upon the story.

i think gojo’s story is a tragedy and it’s a good tragedy. if gojo were our sole main character, jjk would be a great tragedy. and you can decide what his fatal flaw is—could he not let go of his best friend/the past? so he didn’t burn getou’s body, which made him become kenjaku? did he give up being true to himself and rather became the god that the sorcerer world wanted of him? therefore ascending to kill toji, which sets off its own set of consequences? there are likely countless answers.

and then the warnings are countless, too. don’t cling to the past, put your love to rest. stay true to who you are, not what the world wants of you. etc. etc. that’s a good tragedy.

but he’s not our main character. yuuji is. and gojo’s story is the precursor to yuuji’s. usually, when a tragedy comes before another story as a prequel for context (unless dealing with something akin to the revenge plays or stories similar), it is usually so the current story can break out of the cycles of tragedy. again, not always the case, but in this one, with yuuji as our main character, it seems to have been set up that way.

especially with yuuji as our main character. actually, jjk would make a poor tragedy because of yuuji specifically as our main character.

this isn’t to say that yuuji doesn’t have flaws—but what is his fatal flaw in a tragic sense?

wanting to help others? wanting to save them? if jjk is a tragedy and therefore yuuji is our tragic main character, then there is a lesson in yuuji.

what is it? not to be kind? not to help people? not to pursue a world where people can live peacefully? is the moral of the story then that peace can never happen, so you shouldn’t try at all? not to try to break the tragic cycles already established?

what a dismal warning. what a childish, angsty point to your story. if it is a tragedy like this and you want to assert that, then perhaps it just isn’t my cup of tea.

if you want an example of a tragedy in anime that i think is done rather well, despite my copious other issues with this piece of media, attack on titan is a good example. eren is an excellent example of a tragic hero. a hero with a fatal flaw, who damns himself and the story, with plenty of warnings to boot.

obviously tragedy doesn’t have to follow this rigid of an example and there will be tragedies that subvert expectations or use the genre to flip it on its head—but i don’t think jjk has done that, nor done it well, if it can be considered a tragedy as a whole at all, so i just disagree with the parts of the fandom saying its a tragedy.

all this to say, sometimes i think fandom uses words without knowing their full meaning. tragedies aren’t just sad stories with an unhappy ending or pyrrhic victory. it has its own inner workings, archetypes, stereotypes, etc etc.

How do I navigate it's kinda confusing and my ADHD keeps seeing colors and I can't figure out how to use things

First of all, hi, welcome to the party!

Okay you figured out asks so yay! If you haven't noticed, theres also a little toggle for anonymous asks if you ever wish to send those, if I remember correctly though you can't send pics and vids on anonymous.

Basic getting started advice: use the search to find tags that you're interested in, it can be Fandom or hobby interests or anything really. You can choose to follow that tag (the option should be in the search bar after you've searched it, if that makes sense) and random posts from the tag will show up on your feed from time to time. You can also go through and follow people who post a lot in that tag that you enjoy the content of. Basic rule of advice for following people is to do it as freely as you wish, but don't feel bad about unfollowing for any reason.

And this explanation is going to be scatterbrained as I mention things as I think of them so I do apologize for that lol

Make sure you go into your settings and set your dashboard preferences to not include 'in your orbit' (or do, but most have their dash in chronological order rather than the more algorithmic version), this way you see stuff just from people and tags you follow.

Great ways to find people to follow are by searching like mentioned before, but also if you notice someone you follow reblogging someone's posts a lot and you enjoy those posts, that can be a great way to find more people.

You yourself can post as often as you want but there's a couple things to be familiar with that would show up on your blog.

The first is likes, which can be turned off (if I remember correctly the option might be when you go to edit your profile)

The second is reblogs, this is how posts get spread around. I like to think of it like likes are you telling the op they did a good job, and a reblog is you running to show your friends what you just found. It is greatly encouraged to reblog things like art and gifsets if you liked them because of the lack of algorithm on this site.

The last is your own posts, there should be a round plus button on mobile (it's been a bit since I've been on desktop but I think it's at the top?) That will take you to the text editor. I didn't llan ahead so this is the only one I have pictures for :)

Things to note: very bottom has the ability to add links, gifs, photos, audio, polls, and the Aa let's you edit the way text appears. Just above that you can add tags, many use tags for organization (I tend to use #gay thoughts for many of my own posts, eith #gay asks being added when I'm answering an ask), but there's also a huge culture around talking in the tags. Many add thoughts about the post in the tags, as anything said in a reblog will always stay with that version of a post, but tags are only visible when viewed from the actual reblog theyre on.

The 3 dots in the corner give you some additional options for your post

You can post it now or later, change who can reblog it, who can blaze it(pay money for it to appear on a number of random peopl's dashes), all that jazz!

I mean... i'm still very indecisive about how I personally want to view the human mind, its consciousness, and realities... especially in regards to manifestation and reality shifting.

I must say i don't know that much about the writings of those people you mentioned. i'm currently reading neville goddard's books. English isn't my mother tongue. So, the archaic english parts REALLY confuse me sometimes but his way of interpreting the bible is really interesting.

Before getting into law of assumption and reality shifting, I was generally into spirituality and witchcraft. I even had a huge tumblr blog for tarot readings lol... yk through channeling my spirit guides and 'predicting' things so to say. Though, my way of viewing myself and the world I'm in changed a lot over the past view years.

But it's kinda like wanting to set puzzle pieces together but there are puzzles pieces from different pictures and some fit together (physically) that are not really meant to be together (image-wise) iykwim? And later on, you find out that some parts were wrongly put together so you have to revise it (your beliefs) and start again from zero... it's a difficult and really confusing journey imo.

And as i'm not really able to grasp the concept of this reality yet and what role my consciousness in all this plays, it's also really difficult to decide what role other people's souls and 'soulmates' play in this.

Oftentimes, I just want to simplify everything for me just because it all seems so overwhelmingly complicated. (Thats also why i wrote a very vague explanation in that soulmates ask - i tried to keep it simple.) Which reminds of what neville goddard keeps mentioning that humans always try to analyse everything even the simplest things and therefore always end up with complicated 'conclusions' which in turn makes them stray afar from the (very simple) quintessence. (idk if that made sense now lol)

I know this whole rant was probably completely useless to you, it just shows my confusion... sorry once again my mind is very scatterbrained and i don't know where im going with all those thoughts most of the time :')

Anyways, I still have plans to shift to a (what I like to call) 'spirit cafe dr' which is just a dr in a 'otherworldly' caféshop setting where I can talk with my spirit guides and other entities. And I plan to ask them about all this (and more)/to learn from them. I don't know when I will do it, probably not anytime soon because i'm busy with university but I definitely need answers lol

and don't apologise for the rant! while i won't claim to understand everything that you've said, i do think you make a point with goddard's belief of analyses. i myself fall subject to that 😭😭

sometimes, we want to understand the world so much—and it's as if each change needs to be predicted, just so we fulfill our desire for knowing. i think that's where your experience with your worldview shifting and my habit of theorising fall under. as you've mentioned, the journey is a puzzle, and in some cases, the pieces never always fit together as expected. we both want to know what would be of us, and why; we want to know when, where, and how it would happen.

my best guess is that it's merely human nature at play. certainty isn't always guaranteed, as can be depicted by the presence of change itself. so, we try to make solutions for a problem that should have been left alone. I'm not saying it's inherently wrong, but the processes we take make it our lives harder than we need to. call it a lapse in judgement, if you will.

I'm not as versed with the concept of spirit guides nor do i always try to seek them out, but i do know they're very significant to everyone's journeys. that's mostly a matter of opinion, but don't let it stop you. i hope you get the answers that you seek!

Heyo! Can I get a kin assignment for Genshin Impact and/or World’s End Club?

I’m a Capricorn, and I’m honestly not sure about my personality type, sorry ^^;; first, I have pretty bad trust issues, there being only one person I can really open up to. I also tend to put them on a pedestal— unhealthily so, since I tend to see myself as the dark or the evil, while they’re the light or the good. To others though, I show a cheerful and smug persona, though sometimes I’m a bit rude because I hate sugar coating. Despite the persona, I’ve been told I’m quite perceptive and tend to read people like a book. Even further out than the smug persona is a shy and quiet personality that usually only comes out in crowded spaces, as I have. Really bad social anxiety— in any case, I find myself having abandonment issues yet coping with struggling with trust by pushing people away in a vicious cycle. Once I trust a person I become incredibly dependent on them, much to my own guilt. In any case, I have quite the analytical mind (from what I’m told) and prefer to stand back and observe before making a move. I’m very scatterbrained though, if im not using some method to keep myself focused and calm I end up becoming hyperactive and anxious quickly. In the end though I want to be a source of good feelings for others, and so I am actively far too accepting of removing parts of my identity for the comfort of others. Episode 4 - Wow, I Got Absolutely Obliterated

Not particularly happy with the new tribe. Luckily did join with a majority of 3 from my old tribe. Hope we stick it out. Scared about Ian or Sassy having found an idol since they both left the camp. Ugh!

Sassy

Just as I had thought, a tribe swap. I think that this really puts me in a more comfortable position in the game. The original Tafelberg got split, but fortunately, Ian and I were able to stay together. Additionally, we have Kenjie who is someone that I've talked to a few times now, Vi who I've spoken with at camp quite a bit, Geri who is the only original Kasikasima member, and Xenia who I haven't really spoken with much yet, but seems level headed. I think we have a good group and can hopefully manage to pull out some wins and go into the merge with the numbers. Additionally, I hope that Antoine and Emily can pull some good stuff out and also make it to the merge and really set Ian and I up for success. It is starting to reach the point where social game is really going to start mattering, so I need to make it a point to communicate more often and with more people.

Putting targets in other players back is what im doing at this moment. Letting geri search for idol is good in my advantage. I give him clues beffore for him to search good. I know hi will not tell me if hi find one but i will sure that hi will be a target.

So going into the immunity challenge today, I tried to weigh my options as best as I could. Looking at the possibilities, I realized immediately that choosing to Attack would cause me to lose a point 2/3 times, so I had a feeling that picking more of that wouldn't be the best thing, so I chose to use Defend/Balance for the majority of my rounds against Quincy. BOY DID THAT TURN OUT WRONG. Wow, I got absolutely obliterated. Can we play Winterbells or something again? I was good at that. Anyway, another tribal, but this time with a brand new tribe. Pretty quickly, Ian created a chat with Kenjie and I to form an alliance, and it's something that I'm actually really okay with. The two of them I have probably talked to more than anybody, so I'm happy to stick with them for as long as I need to. With 6 people on a tribe that's just been formed, it's good to have a strong group of 3, but the possibility of an idol being in play is always a concern, and one that I'll continually have to remind myself of because I'm not that experienced in playing Survivor. Right now, the plan seems to vote for Xeniah, which I am fine with, as long as it isn't me, which is why I'm going to try and make sure that I talk to all three of the other people on the tribe. Social game is incredibly important, and I don't think the old Julianatop members have much of one going, aside from Kenjie. I think that in an ideal scenario, voting blocks look like this: (Geri, Ian, Sassy, Kenjie for Xeniah) vs (Vi, Xeniah for Geri). That way, if an idol is used on Xeniah for whatever reason, Geri gets sent out and my trio can maintain majority for a future tribal.

Ian and sadsy made a alliance with me to target xiniah but for me i got my own agenda. I tell sassy and ian that geri is always in idol search and thats a scary player maybe hi had an idol and they both agreed to that . And in the other side i tell geri that sassy start a conversation that his a threat because his always searching for an idol. And geri buy that story i did lol and his willing to change his vote from vi to sassy.

I know they will target the original julianatap tribe because we never lost from challenges so i will do my very best to use all of my advantage to save my old tribe and to make my old julianatap im solid with them. Lol

I am worried. Ian andI don't talk since I have him blocked on Skype over a fight from Zwooper. He wants me gone and I want him gone but Kenjie wants Sassy to go since he feels Sassy is running the show. I like Geri and wanted to work with him so since Sassy and Ian are from the same tribe, I don't mind one of them leaving but if either has an idol then I am gone for sure. Kenjie is talking to everyone on the tribe. He has a good social game. I want the old Juliana tribe to vote together along with Geri. If I survive and Sassy goes this round then I will push for Ian to leave next time if we lose.
