I applied for this internship at the Smithsonian and I'm really really really hoping I get it because it would be such a huge opportunity for me. It means a lot to me that I'm even being considered when it's such a hugely competitive internship to get.

My mom however has told me repeatedly that she hopes I don't get this internship. That she doubts my ability to do things without her. She says it's just because she's anxious for me but I feel like she thinks I'm stupid. She's repeatedly told me she thinks I'm brainwashed by the woke left or whatever else the fuck too as if im too stupid to think for myself. She already hates the fact I'm fucking gay (because she refuses to see me as a boy, which she hates that too)

My own fucking mom is telling me she hopes I don't get the internship of a fucking lifetime because she thinks I'm too fucking pathetic or helpless or whatever else to take care of myself without her there with me. As if household chores are hard to learn. As if cooking isn't hard to learn. And I know how to do most household chores anyway and YouTube is FREE. How stupid does she think I am?!

- after ALWAYS bumping into each other and apologizing before making small talk, armin makes the first move

- you also find out he has a paid internship at a research facility near the university you attend

-> momo was trying to help a civilian, and didn't notice the big rock falling from above.

-> you launched yourself towards them, trying to push them out of the way.

-> the rock hit you instead.

-> you didn't remember a thing after that.

-> todoroki was at his father's agency when he got the call.

-> "please, get to the hospital quickly, i– y/n's in really bad shape, please, i'm so sorry"

-> to hear yaoyorozu crying, saying you were in the hospital?? he couldn't move at first. like, frozen.

-> you were taken to the operation room, leaving him on the edge of combusting in tears of impotence.

-> even though momo tried again and again to explain him, he shut down everything except you.

-> all he could think about was you, lying in a operation table, fighting for your life.

-> the rest of the u.a. arrived with time, the procedure didn't end.

-> everyone was more than shocked to see todoroki so feral, a single word or touch from someone could develop in a big fire, from the guy.

-> when the doctor finally came, shoto almost tackled him.

-> "they're going to be fine, there were a couple complications during the procedure, but everything turned out okay. we'll keep them in here for two weeks, in observation, but we're confident that they'll be leaving in less than a month".

so uh last night at like 4 am i couldnt sleep, decided to walk my dog, and came up with this bad boy. It’s a rough draft, though. um @professional-benaddict read it and told me to post it, so whatever rafni says goes. 

-Little! Peter with like everyone lmao (platonically), but main pairing is Tony x Peter. everyone is 18+ and Littles are known. but yeah, I call this “uncanonically Canon AU” because it follows canon character tropes (except Peter).

so i LOVE the doctor trope w stephen and tony to death, like probably a lil too much, but hear me out

--canon tony and the avengers with not canon (aka powerless) little peter

--im thinking how they met is before peter became classified as a little, he was smart smart. so, he still gets the internship, but a real one this time.

--hes hanging out with the other interns when he feels himself regress. he freaks and goes to hide in a bathroom or something

--he runs into (probably pepper??) someone and they help him get out of the tower because he's obviously very vulnerable

--they (pepper?) take him to the hospital to get tested and find out hes a high care little. once they find out peter freaks out because omg he cant work like this

--(pepper?) assures him that they will figure it our, but with no CG, and just for plot sake, he also is living alone at this point so they dont feel comfortable sending him home, so he stays overnight, at least, in the hospital

--(pepper?) goes to talk to tony himself about this since hes the one who chose and hired the interns. tony isnt quite sure what to do because peter is one of the best in their group

--(pepper?) suggests that he go have a one on one talk with peter and see what the boy wants to do with his future, and also meet with the doctors to see what they think is best for his future

--now, tony has met peter a few times, and the kid is pretty cool, but he never really cared about him (harsh, but canon tony is pretty reserved so yuh) so, when he goes into the hospital room to talk with him, hes mentally preparing to never see peter again

--but, when he walks in, he sees peter sat on a cot carefully coloring in an avengers coloring book, and his entire aura is different and /adorable/

--as if he wasnt already kinda done for, when peter notices he's there, he looks up, eyes blown wide and a kid-like face on full of awe

--he sits on the end of the bed and they simply stare at each other before peter finally gets the courage to ask why tony is there, stuttering through it like an adorable mess

--tony freaks out, because as good as peter is, he planned on letting peter down, but now that hes here, all he wants is to see the boy.

--instead he smooths his nervousness and easily asks about how the boy is doing. he asks if peter has a CG, and predicably, peter just sadly shakes his head

--anyways i dont really know how this part would be worded, and it probably wouldnt happen in just one day, but eventually tony asks peter if he wants tony to take care of him

--peter is a cutie and accepts, again dont really have this part planned out, im akward when it comes to writing about the adopting of a little

--he goes with tony and since he lives in the tower, he also gets the avengers as glorified CGs. now this is the part i LOVE

tony stark- he's obviously the main man and does all the main caring. hes the one who sleeps with peter and makes sure he gets food, and plans the days. he also sometimes will hand make little gadgets (safe ofc) to occupy peter. he gets peter little engineering/inventing kits and will hold back any groans he has as peter hits his leg with a plastic hammer and screwdriver. he also is the one who is ALWAYS there, when he cries, when he's happy, when he's sad.

thor- he lets peter play with his hair, and even lets the boy snuggle, and sometimes even chew on, mjolnir (because of course peter would be worthy)

steve rogers- he lets peter look at and hold the shield. one day he finds the boy curled like a cat dosing on the inside of it

natasha- she speaks in russian to him, and when he goes outside to the park, shes there making sure no one disturbs him

bucky- he lets peter also mess with his hair, although more rare than thor, but he does let peter suck on his metal fingers when hes really small, and will scratch peters scalp with it, the metal scratching much better than normal skin. also if he ever gets a fever, the cold of the arm feels amazing on his forehead

bruce- not strictly canon since hes more sciency than doctor, but i imagine bruce is the one who does checkups and takes care of the meds when peter is sick

stephen- he doesnt do it often, plus he's not at the tower much, but hell do little harmless "magic" tricks to excite Peter and when peter gets grumpy, stephen will give him a little stress spell thing to calm peter down

peter quill- i imagine hes the one who is down to do lots of fun stuff, but is also the most reckless towards the actions suited towards littles, getting a lot of scolding from tony. also, he has great taste in music, so when peter has bursts of energy, he'll bounce around the room dancing to old 80s music

rocket- hes the closest peters ever gonna get to a pet, and with lots of bribing from tony, rocket /occasionally/ lets peter pet him and feed him "treats", sometimes peter will ask rocket to do a trick like jump or spin, but rocket with always decline...at first. peters trademark pouts do the trick because either rocket will concede and hurt his pride, or tony will see and threaten rocket into making his little boy happy. its always worth it to see the happy little squirms and claps

gamora- she's the resident story teller. when its bedtime, she'll share her cool space stories, leaving out the gory/scarier aspects. it always does the trick as hes out in minutes. sometimes hell catch her and peter q engaging in loving activities (ie kissing, hugging, whatever), and he'll just giggle away, and as embarrassed as gamora gets, not being an openly affectionate person, she might just go to the extreme to hear the cute giggles out of the little boy

clint- hes pretty chill with peter. he also likes to play games with the boy, playing things like peek-a-boo when he's super small, or playing darts when he feels older. tony isnt /too/ happy about it, but its better than quill so he doesnt say anything.

pepper is there too because i love the idea of tony working away somewhere and pepper calling peter in, handing him a few sheets of paper, sometimes actual documents, sometimes just scratch paper to entertaim the boy, before asking peter to deliver them to tony. she always has a smile when peter eagerly nods with his whole body before running to the office to give tony the papers. it almost always ends with peter in his lap, but it /always/ ends in tony praising him, saying something along the lines of 'theres my little helper boy. look at you'

--on any particular day peter wakes up aged up, he doesn't even miss his old internship because this life is so much better, although on these days tony actually lets him help with some safer stuff in the lab with him

--also, they are still the avengers and still have to save the universe. tony leaves him in the care of Happy or Pepper, trusting them both to handle him. sometimes, it ends in disaster. sometimes, they are lucky enough to find happy laying on the couch, with a drooling little boy soaking his suit

--no matter how things end up, it never gets old being able to come home and cuddle up with the reason tony wants to save the universe.

--its no surprise peter is able to help the man just as much as tony helps him. tony stops locking himself up so late at night so he can put peter to bed and cuddle up. he stops drinking when he's stressed, instead finding his boy and reading a story to him. his hookups end, he wants to be there for peter all the time. he gets more work done, the added bonus of having a pretty little boy in his lap helping keep his mind on track.

--tony still has his canon issues, but having peter there makes everything a little more manageable. and when he eventually gets too old to be ironman, its okay, because his universe is lying in bed, a red pacifier in his mouth, and a family of superheroes softly arguing about who the boy loves most

--and despite tony being a narcissist, he knows this is not that, when he thinks that without a doubt he is peters favorite. after all, peter helped him see the good inside the bad

No, this is not an emo post, don’t worry, just journaling i guess

No more stressing about my uncle’s pre-departure covid test cause we finally got the test results in time before his flight tomorrow

Udon is always the one her family goes to for booking appointments and what not because she’s the only grandchild/family member that knows english that’s always accessible cause all the other ones are busy/MIA =n= At this point i’m qualified to be a secretary because of all this experience lakjsdlfkj

I got my spot secured for a 3 week internship in February

Still stressing over other school projects though, and kinda stressing over if I’ll do well during internship weh

So life update:

The uncle that’s been visiting for a month is finally leaving tomorrow at 8am, (in which I have to accompany him to help him with check in and whatever cause I’m the only one ever accessible that can read english around. I was also REALLY stressing out for him cause I had to order his pre-departure covid test and we didn’t get a call to book an appointment (because we used his phone when registering not knowing they would CALL us, so we missed the call cause his phone can’t receive canadian calls (?)), so I had to call them and then sort things out and LUCKILY there was one spot left within the time frame we need do the test. And then he said he hasn’t gotten the results by email yet and im here freaking out like omg what if they’re gonna take too long and he’s gonna have to buy new plane tickets cause he can’t board his current one cause his test results arent in on time aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!! Anyway, turns out he didn’t check his email, but for some reason thought he would get the results via TEXT MESSAGE. The results came in at like 10:56AM this morning and omg seeing that email lift off SO MUCH WEIGHT OFF MY CHEST. All is good now, but I gotta wake up at like 5am tomorrow to go to the airport with him v n v

And in other news, I needed to make a self promo piece as part of my requirement for the mentorship search, (where i give the self promo piece as an official request for mentorship) and I handed it in today in person and aaaah it was so nervewracking. I didn’t know how their suite door worked so i had to call in TWICE ALKSJDIOFASDJ But they liked it apparently and I got accepted!?!?!?!?!!!???????!!!!!!!!! So there’s another weight off my chest for now.

I still have a ton of projects left to worry about though unfortunately, but I hope I can get through it. Hopefully I can focus more on my projects now that family gatherings are gonna die down a bit (cause my uncle is leaving) I swear we’ve been eating out 3/4 of the time he has been here LOOOL (which is great, cause i dont eat out often, but time is of essence) 

oh i also have a huge ass tv in my room now, that i dont really use, but maybe i can use it as a 3rd monitor or something LMAOOOO or use it to play the switch on

I want to read everyday! I have the hardest freaking time taking time to sit down to read but it's good for my soul. I read some today when I was in a waiting room though ayy!!

there's like a specific smell of some kind of soap that really reminds me of my aunt's apartment in okinawa! also cigarettes, it reminds me of riding my bike through the neighborhood as a kid and there's a sunset and other kids are playing etc

i feel like my hard work is progressing my life! like the money ive saved from my jobs will help me get an apartment once i graduate, and im graduating winter 2022, im getting better at baking and cooking, i knit myself a sweater recently, im progressing in the languages im learning, i have a new job that's actually related to my major and will give me experience related to my future careers, im gonna do an internship too probably, uhh idk nice stuff! im so proud of myself for like sticking with Life even when i didn't want to and now things are better and will KEEP getting better. so ayy!!

-Basically he has nowhere to go

-His current foster parents live in midtown’s district

-And so he goes there

-Its the first school he’s ever really enjoyed going to

-And he doesn’t have a lot of friends, but the ones he has are good

-His parents are not good, though

-They don’t like him, and constantly tell him that.

-They say that hes a waste of space

-They say he’s worthless

-And that they don’t like to hear him speak

-They don’t give him much choice in anything

-They don’t make casual conversation

-They tell him that he’s why his family died

-And that nobody loves him

-And so when there’s an application for an after school internship, he signs up

-He doesn’t even know where it is

-He just wants to get away from home

-But nobody knows this

-He gets the internship and surprise! Its at stark industries

-It makes him feel really nice

-Like maybe he is worth something

-And when the day comes he tells his foster parents that he’ll be home late

-And they say “good”

-“But don’t be late for dinner. If you are, you won’t get it.”

-It puts a damper on his mood

-So he puts on the nicest shirt he owns and a pair of khakis

-And heads to stark tower after school

-He nervously heads to the receptionist’s desk and says he’s here for the internship

-She kindly takes him up to the lab levels

-And peter thinks he’ll be working with other interns on low level stuff

-Wrong

-His test scores got him a very high position

-Personal lab assistant to tony stark

-Pretty sweet, huh

-And so the receptionist deposits him at the entrance to his lab

-And shes like “i dont have the clearance for in there honey”

-So he waits for a while, just listening to the music blaring through the door

-He knocks quietly, then waits

-Nothing

-He knocks again and again

-So he decides to just see if the door will open

-It does

-Huh

-He pokes his head in there and sees tony working on something across the room

-He asks quietly “mr. stark?”

-Tony whips around

-Like “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP” style

-And he asks peter (pretty meanly) “who are you and why are you here?”

-“Um, im sorry mr stark my name is peter? I’m your lab assistant?”

-And tonys like “agh sorry kid i forgot that was today.”

-He turns the music down and invites peter in properly

-“So peter, huh. Tell me about yourself. Where do you go to school, what you like, where do you live, who are your parents, yadda yadda”

-And peters like “uhhhhhh i go to midtown and i like science”

-He doesn’t really know what to do because he’s being spoken to like another adult

-Not a kid that he doesn’t want

-He conveniently doesn’t say anything about his parents because ~touchy subject~

-and tonys like okay enough small talk lets get sciencing

-So peter gets a lab tour and a rundown of the rules

-There’s only a few

-Don’t make stupid decisions

-Always check your math before using things that could blow up

-Bringing snacks is encouraged because tony gets hungry too

-And please please please don’t freak if another avenger comes in here

-Tony has the bright idea to test peters knowledge in the different areas of science

-So for the first days, they do lots of chemistry stuff

-Peter is very good at chemistry

-Then its physics

-Peter is also very good at physics

-Then they do engineering

-Peter is also very good at engineering

-This happens over a week or so

-Tony notices that peter doesn’t talk much

-And only speaks when directly spoken to

-He does what he’s told

-But not in a good way like a robotic way

-Whenever things go flying in an experiment he flinches

-And he isn’t the biggest fan of loud noises

-But tony doesnt say anything

-And after a couple of months, not a lot changes

-He talks a bit more freely, but the physical things don’t change

-And somehow the topic of parents comes up

-And tony’s like “yeah my mom was italian what about yours”

-So tony says “yoooo we should do one of those genetics ancestry things. It can be our biology project. We’ll get bruce to draw some blood, and we’ll do tests”

-Peter is like “wait dr bruce banner bruce??”

-“Duh”

-“That is so cool”

-So they get the blood work done and set about looking at them genes

-They find out that tony is italian (surprise surprise) and that he’s at risk for heart disease (haha get it)

-And that peter’s got some italian in him too

-“Now i’ve got to make you my mom’s lasagna you fellow italian boy”

-But it was a Ruse

-Tony did want to have lasagna but it was more than that

-When he was looking at their genes he ran a paternity test because there was something he couldn’t shake

-The idea that peter is his kid

-Like just the way he looks, how he’s so into science, his mannerisms

-It all seemed so weird

-He didn’t expect it to turn up positive

-So peter shows up tomorrow and friday directs him to tony’s penthouse rather than the lab

-And peters like “damn i didn’t think he was actually gonna make me lasagna”

-But there it is

-On the table

-They sit down and tony says “kid you know im shit with emotions but we need to talk”

-And peter just looks terrified

-Because every time hes had a “talk” its never had a happy ending

-So peter just begins to apologize for not being good enough

-How hes sorry for wasting tony’s time

-That he’ll leave

-Tony is like “no dude wtf”

-“Calm down”

-“Why would you think that?”

-This is why peter is so skittish

-He calms down and says “we’ll deal with that later. Did you ever know your father, peter? I need you to think. Hard.”

-Because even when mary and ben and may were around, there was no dad

-Peter is confused

-“No, why?”

-“Remember when we did that genetic experiment?

-“Uh huh”

-“I ran a few extra tests”

say like during a battle, perhaps when afo is breaking out of prison (bc thats always my goto next ~big battle~), mido and the gang meet the nana nomu. and like, bc of the connection midoriya has w the previous users, he kinda gets like a zing when she shows up and starts fighting. he can tell theres smth Different abt her and cause midoriya is midoriya, he tries reaching out to her and probably almost dies

he doesnt give up tho he just knows he needs to help her. he tells toshinori abt it and how weird it felt to have a connection w a nomu of all things nd so he and toshinori theorize why exactly midoriya feels the connection. toshi calls up gran torino bc torino knows abt ofa and the experiences it brings as well. however no dice there bc ofc midoriya just keeps breaking boundaries w ofa, so he, gran torino, nd toshinori r all confused on why mido feels a connection. mido just knows he has to Help

so probably during his next internship, after a patrol nd mido is heading home, midoriya finds her. im thinkin once the connection between him and nomu nana formed, she broke through the haze enough to know she did Not want to be near afo but she doesnt know how to function on her own w no one telling her what to do, so mido just kinda finds her huddled up in some alleyway and dying of starvation/dehydration one night

after freaking out and then giving her some of his water nd probably a granola bar mido had in his utility belt, he starts to talk to her. nomu nana cant understand at first but eventually, mido breaks thro to her a lil bit bc the connection they inherently share w ofa, and she just starts weeping bc this is a fate worse than death and im just. i am in fucking agony dude

mido has to leave then, but he promises he’ll be back, so nomu nana just doesnt move. so they meet up like that a few times while mido tries to figure out where to go from here 

hes definitely gonna have to call aizawa nd toshinori to see where they can put her bc mido isnt gonna let her stay in this alleyway forever. btw that conversation is Very Long bc like toshinori knew mido was concerned abt the nomu but he didnt know he FOUND HER and aizawa didnt know any of this shit at ALL and so when mido is just like “hey can i bring a nomu home??” out of the fucking BLUE he knocks back six advils w a shot of tequila before turning to face his problem child

eventually smth is worked out tho. theyll meet mido and her at the front of ua w tsukauchi and some other pros (including gran torino HO) in case she acts out, nd then they’ll go from there

anyway so mido goes to bring her to ua one night after his patrol’s done, nd she starts trying to speak. nd mido is excited bc this is a first!! its progress whadda ya know. so he’s encouraging her and trying to guess what shes saying but eventually quiets down when he realizes how frustrated nomu nana is and how hard it is for her to try and speak

eventually tho she’s able to form a word, coincidentally right when they arrive at ua

“na...na”

toshinori and gran torino immediately bristle and so does nana bc she hasnt seen them since the last time she was herself which was like,,,probably over 30 years ago now

nd midoriya is just like “nana? who’s nana?” and well. toshi, torino, nd nana all have a rough night that night bc like torino tsukauchi and aizawa know that nomus can be made out of ppl obv, and im sure torino told toshinori smth abt that, so they know almost immediately what happened and who this is and oh, of course, it makes sense why mido had a connection w her now, and oh god

toshinori hasta head out for a bit (by that i mean he gets choked up nd cant look at nana) and gran torino just kinda slumps like a puppet w it strings cut. tsukauchi is trying to comfort both of them while keeping an eye on nomu nana bc he doesnt know if she’ll lash out over seeing these ppl from her past

meanwhile nana is like panicking internally bc oh shit memories and even more Bad Feelings abt afo but isnt she supposed to serve him now??  but she doesnt Want To and oh man. so she’s having her own issues and just starts mumbling her name over and over and mido is like “who is NANA hello??”

and just. toshinori eventually gets himself together enough to like lightly put a hand on mido’s shoulder and to gently take a step forward, and asks, “nana? shimura nana?”

nd nana nomu just nods her head bc she doesnt know hardly anything anymore, but she knows she has feelings, and that feels right, and she opens her mouth to say “nana” again but what comes out is 

“all...might”

cause she cant remember his name, only what afo called him, but she remembers his face -- just with more baby fat and eyes less sunken -- and she knows that she knows toshinori

and toshinori cries a bit (who can fucking blame him thats essentially his MOM) while mido is quietly questioning what tf is going on and if toshinori’s okay, but nana relaxes bc she knows that whatever happens now, she’ll be okay

And now Peter Parker was staring at you, his hair sticking up in all directions.

For a second, the two of you just looked at each other. Part of you wanted to believe that this was just a silly costume, but you knew it wasn’t.

“This is why I’ve been missing all those decathlon practices, and why I quit band, and why I got that busted lip,” Peter said, his voice a little shaky. “This is the Stark Internship. I’m Spider-Man,” he added, like that wasn’t obvious enough already.

You didn’t say anything, still struggling to process everything that had just been thrown at you. Slowly, everything began to make sense.

“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I didn’t want to lie to you anymore.”

You could feel several powerful emotions radiating off of him, emotions he was trying to show you: fear of his identity being discovered, fear of getting hurt, of others getting hurt, the anxiety of balancing school and being a superhero, the loneliness of not being able to tell anyone his secret, the guilt and the hatred he felt whenever he couldn’t save someone. It was so much you could barely stand it.

But you could also feel that he was afraid of you: afraid you’d hate him for dragging you into this, putting you in danger, making this a part of your life forever now. Afraid you’d never want to see him again after this. Afraid he’d just ruined everything.

Finally, you found your voice. “Peter,” you said. You were still in shock, but your voice came out steady. “It’s okay. It’s all okay.”

He blinked at you before looking at the ground, and you could see tears glistening in his eyes. You hesitated for a second before you moved forward and hugged him.

Peter went stiff with surprise, but you refused to let go, and eventually he relaxed, his arms slowly coming around your back. You stood silently like that for a while, and it wasn’t lost on you that this was the first time you and Peter had ever been close like this. And you liked it.

“You’re not mad?” he asked, his voice muffed into your shoulder.

“No,” you said. It was strange because you knew you should be mad, and you knew you had every right to be. But you weren’t.

“I do have a lot of questions though,” you continued. “If you’re up for answering them.”

“Yeah,” Peter said, lifting his head and wiping his nose. “Yeah, of course. Just . . . can we go somewhere else?”

“Sure,” you said. “Wherever you want.”

“I didn’t mean here,” you squeaked, squeezing your eyes shut.

Peter had led you out of the subway to a huge apartment building, so tall you had to crane your neck to see the top. “What are we doing here?” you’d asked.

“You’ll see,” was all Peter had said. He’d put his mask back on so you couldn’t see his face, and it just made you even more nervous. He’d beckoned you over with a short wave of his hand.

You’d reluctantly moved closer to him, but were caught off guard when he put one arm around you and shot out a web. “Wait a second,” you’d said, realizing just a little too late what he was about to do.

And then there was nothing below you anymore, just open air, and you were being lifted higher and higher off the ground. “Oh, fuck!” you’d shrieked before you could stop yourself, clinging to Peter even tighter. Everything passed by you in a blur, which was good, as you didn’t want to know how high up you were or what would happen if Peter were to let go. You didn’t breathe until you felt solid ground beneath your feet again, and even then you’d only let out a short breath before you saw where you were and immediately closed your eyes. 

“C’mon, open your eyes,” Peter coaxed now. He was sitting on the ledge of the building, but you’d remained where you were, refusing to even look at your surroundings.

“You brought me to the top of a fucking building,” you accused him, shaking your head. “Are you insane? I told you I don’t like heights!”

“Would you just come sit down? Please?”

Slowly, you opened your eyes and saw he was looking back at you, motioning for you to come over. “I am not coming over there,” you insisted. “I’m gonna fall.”

“If you fall I’ll catch you,” he said simply. “I promise.”

With a sigh, you took tiny steps to where he was, taking his hand and cautiously lowering yourself next to him. As long as you didn’t look down, you were okay. In fact, staring out at the city skyline, it was actually really pretty.

“See? You’re fine,” Peter said.

“For now.”

He laughed. You glanced over and saw he still had his mask on. “Take that thing off,” you said.

“Why?”

“’Cause I wanna see your face, that’s why.”

“You’d rather look at Peter Parker than at Spider-Man?” His tone was sarcastic on the surface, but you could read him easily.

“Yeah. I would,” was all you said.

There was a pause. And then Peter pulled off his mask, crumpling it up in his hand. “You’re the only one,” he said finally.

You shrugged. “Does anyone else really matter, though?”

You’d been half-joking, but to your surprise Peter said, “No.” You glanced over at him in time to see him look away, his cheeks tinged the lightest shade of pink.

The two of you sat there in embarrassed silence until you finally said, “Wait a second. When I was at your house for dinner and we were eating ice cream, they did a story about Spider-Man on TV. And I said that it would be cool to meet him. That was you?”

The smallest trace of a smirk was beginning to creep its way onto his face. “Yeah.”

“So you literally listened to me fangirl to you . . . about you?”

“Yup.”

“Oh my God.” Now it was your turn to flush. “I might have to jump off this building now. That’s so embarrassing.”

“I didn’t think it was,” Peter said, though his shit-eating grin said otherwise. “I thought it was cute.”

Cute. He thought you were cute. God, what was the matter with you? He was your frenemy; friend, even. What he thought about you didn’t mean anything in the slightest. So why was there warmth spreading through you from head to toe? Why was he smiling? And more importantly, why were you?

“How long have you been . . . this?” you asked to change the subject.

“Since freshman year,” he answered, glad to do the same.

“Was that before or after . . .” You trailed off, unsure if the question you wanted to ask was appropriate or not.

“Before,” he answered. “I mean, I got the powers before. But I was scared, you know? I didn’t know what to do. But after he died, I realized that I could stop stuff like that from happening to someone else. So I do.”

You looked at him almost in awe. “That’s really brave of you.”

“You think?”

“Yeah. I can’t imagine how hard that must’ve been,” you said quietly. “For you or your aunt.”

“He really was her soulmate,” Peter said, staring at something in the distance. “They did everything together. When he died, it was like a part of her died too. And it’s only just started to get better.”

“I’m sorry,” you said.

“She doesn’t know,” he said. “About this, I mean. Me.”

You raised your eyebrows. “You’ve been keeping this from her for two years?”

“Yeah,” he said. “It hasn’t been easy, believe me. But it would crush her if she found out. She’d flip.”

“Can’t imagine why,” you said dryly.

He ignored you. “She’s been through enough. If she knew, all she’d do was try to stop me.”

“But that wouldn’t work.”

He smiled. “No. So she’d just worry. And then it would worry me. So it’s just better if she doesn’t know.” He blinked, almost like he was forcing himself to come back. “I’m sorry for springing all of this on you. I know it’s a lot.”

“Yeah, kind of,” you agreed.

“I just . . . you said that I didn’t trust you. I wanted to show you that I do.” He laughed a little. “And you’re actually taking it way better than I thought you would.”

“Honestly? I’m pretty freaked out, dude,” you said. “You just told me that you’re Spider-Man and that you go around fighting crime and putting your life on the line every day. And that there are tons of bad guys out there that want to kill you who could find out your identity and then potentially find out mine. So I mean yeah, that kind of scares me.”

Peter furrowed his eyebrows as you continued. “But . . . you’re my soulmate. So I’m kind of stuck with it no matter what, right?”

“You don’t have to be,” Peter said, his voice low as he suddenly became very interested in his feet.

You let the silence hang over you for a second before you reached out and took his hand. He quickly looked at you, eyes wide. “Maybe I want to be,” you said quietly.

Slowly, a smile grew on Peter’s face. He went back to staring out at the horizon. You did the same, and you stayed like that until the sun was setting and it was time to go home.

After that day, something changed. It just took you a while to see it.

“I can’t believe I let you drag me into this,” you grumbled from your position next to Youngmin, standing awkwardly in the entrance of one of the fanciest hotels in Gangnam.

“Free food,” Youngmin whispered back playfully, making you nudge his side. The gesture made a thousand cameras flash, and you did your best to not roll your eyes. You, Youngmin, Youngjae and Hyemi (who was carrying a sleepy Daehwi) were standing at the entrance of the Lai gala, thrown to celebrate the opening of another strip mall in Busan by the Lais. Lai Guanlin, another student at your high school, though a year younger than you, was the nephew of the family throwing the event. Youngmin had pleaded for you to attend, explaining that these types of events were usually extremely dry and boring, even with Daehwi there.  

“(y/n), is this your first gala?” Hyemi asked, not unkindly, as she glanced over at you. You hurried to nod, smiling at the sweet woman. “Well, Youngmin, keep her close, I don’t want her getting overwhelmed or worried.”

Youngmin nodded, hand immediately going to your waist. You froze in fear, realizing how familiar the position had gotten for the two of you. The two of you had gotten through the night so far without getting into a single argument, setting a definite record for ‘most time without yelling’.

“You ready to head inside?” Youngmin asked you quietly. You nodded your head mutely, letting him lead the way. The four of you had gotten there fairly late, and there was already a good number of people milling around the space reserved, either dancing, mingling, or sitting at the tables that were arranged on one side of the room. “Food?”

“Yes, please,” you nodded, heaving a sigh of relief at the thought of having something to keep you busy. There were so many incredibly important people in the room, and you were terrified at the thought of making even one wrong move.

“Wow, they got some really fancy meat,” Youngmin whistled, impressed, “the Lais really went all out with this event.”

“I guess so,” you shrugged, not really able to tell the difference. “So, how are you enjoying the feeling of recently graduating?”

Youngmin grinned, loading food onto his plate, “not much different. It’s summer, so I guess the feeling of freedom hasn’t really set in yet.”

“Noona, can you help me get food too?” Daehwi asked, tugging on your pant leg. Apparently, Hyemi had set her son down and let him loose.

“Sure,” you smiled down at the adorable boy, grabbing a plate for him as well, “what do you want?”

“Beans.” Daehwi said firmly, nodding his head. Youngmin looked over at you in amusement, clearly trying to suppress a laugh. You glared at him.

“Just beans?” You asked, raising a casual eyebrow. From her seat, Hyemi sent you an embarrassed smile. Clearly, this wasn’t a new thing.

“Yes. Beans,” Daehwi said serenely, “with a bit of salt, please.”

More upbeat music started up as you carefully spooned some beans onto Daehwi’s plate, and slowly, couples began filling the dance floor. One couple in particular caught your eye—Lai Guanlin and Kim Hyojin, both juniors at your high school, who were dancing slowly. You smiled at the sight.

“They’re cute,” you commented to Youngmin, who hummed in agreement.

“Guanlin’s had a crush on her for ages,” he replied, chuckling at the sight, “I guess fate decided to bless him.”

“Really?” You looked up at Youngmin before looking back at the couple, “that’s adorable.”

Youngmin grinned, patting you on the back. “Hey bub, you got all the food you need?” He asked Daehwi, holding his hand out for the younger to grasp. Daehwi nodded, following Youngmin to the table where his parents had sat, you right behind them.

“(y/n), you should live with us,” Daehwi said abruptly, through a rather large mouthful of beans. You had been sipping some water when he said that, and started coughing, eyes watering as you wheezed.

“Daehwi-ah, I don’t think that would work too well,” Youngmin said, eyes playful as they met yours. You were still coughing, trying to suppress the tickling in your throat.

“Why not?” Daehwi pouted, “I like (y/n), you like (y/n), Mom likes (y/n).”

“Well, (y/n) has their own family that they need to take care of,” Youngmin explained carefully. You nodded with a smile.

“Oh,” Daehwi nodded, clearly thinking about this new revelation.

“So, Daehwi,” you looked down at the adorable child, who was slowly spooning beans into his mouth. “Do you have any plans for the summer?”

Daehwi perked up, looking up at you with a wide smile, “yeah! I’m going to lots of summer camps!”

“Oh, really?” you smiled, silently handing him a napkin after seeing how much sauce had gotten on his face. “What camps?”

“I’m going to one for science, one for reading, and one for space!” Daehwi nodded proudly, grinning toothily, “I really like science, and I wanna be an astronaut.”

“Wow, that’s a hard job,” you said, grinning at his enthusiasm, “are you excited?” Daehwi nodded, mouth full once more.

The three of you sat in relative silence, Daehwi occasionally commenting on someone’s dress or the song. Youngmin ate through two plates and had started on a third when Daehwi announced that he needed to go to the bathroom. Youngmin had started to get up, but you got up instead.

“I need to go as well, I can go with you,” you said, holding your hand out for Daehwi to take. Youngmin nodded up at you with a small smile, and the two of you set off for the back of the venue where the bathrooms were.

“Are you gonna be okay going by yourself?” You asked Daehwi, who just nodded, trotting off into the bathroom. You headed into the other bathroom, quickly going before washing your hands. As you checked your reflection in the mirror, you recognized the person standing next to you—your junior, Kim Hyojin.

“Oh! Hi!” Hyojin smiled widely, waving at you.

“Hey, Hyojin,” you waved back, looking over at her.

“I didn’t realize that you’d be here,” Hyojin commented, quickly straightening her hair a bit.

“Yeah, I’m here with Youngmin,” you replied, “you’re here with Guanlin, right? Are you guys dating?”

Hyojin blushed, smiling shyly at you, “yeah, actually, he just asked me out.”

“Really?” You brightened, smiling widely, “congratulations! You guys are super cute together.”

“Aw, thanks,” Hyojin grinned, “you and Youngmin are super cute as well.”

You mentally winced, but made sure to thank her.

“All of my friends have been talking about how adorable you two are,” Hyojin laughed, “my whole grade was totally freaking out when we heard about the dictionary thing.”

“Wait, even the underclassmen heard about that?” You asked, pausing in shock. Youngmin’s popularity really was no joke.

“Yeah,” Hyojin nodded, “we heard about the dictionary thing, how he helped you with the English final, and it’s so cute how he went to support you at your dance competition.”

Oh, if only you knew, you thought to yourself grimly.  “Well, it was nice seeing you,” you patted Hyojin on the back, “congratulations again.”

Hyojin nodded as you headed out of the bathroom, Daehwi waiting patiently outside.

“Ready to go?” You asked cheerfully, holding your hand out once more. Daehwi nodded, grasping your hand tightly. “How are you feeling?”

“Tired,” Daehwi sighed as the two of you walked back out to the main room. “Sleepy.”

You took your seat next to Youngmin, Daehwi climbing into your lap instead of his own chair.

Later that night, as you sat awkwardly in the car between Youngmin and Daehwi, Youngmin looked over at you.

“So, do you have any summer plans?” He asked curiously, hand going up to loosen the tie around his neck.

You shrugged sheepishly, “dancing, working at my parents’ grocery store. Nothing super interesting. How about you?”

“He has an internship! At Samsung,” she began, obviously very proud, “it was a super competitive scholarship, but our Youngmin managed to get it.” Youngmin smiled, obviously a bit embarrassed as Hyemi cut into the conversation.

“Wow, that makes my summer sound so boring,” you laughed, grinning over at Youngmin, who smiled back in embarrassment.

“I don’t think it sounds boring,” Youngmin replied, looking at you thoughtfully, “just different.”

“You’re kidding!” Alya laughed through Marinette’s phone. “Coming in on time at least once won’t kill you, Marinette.”

Marinette rolled her eyes, her flats tapping insistently on the hardwood floor. “I know, I know! I know that it’s just… I was running late when I left so I thought…”

“So you thought you might as well have another silent flirting session with the cute barista anyway?” Alya’s tone became teasing and suggestive which made Marinette huff her bangs from her eyes.

Her eyes flicked up to the cute barista in question her heart humming in her chest. Their interactions were simple and brief but still left her reeling. A morning pas de deux that left her blushing and smiling so wide her cheeks hurt.

This particular morning though, Marinette found herself spending much too long humming and twirling around her room, picturing a certain blond barista sweeping her around the room and laughter coloring her plain walls. Minutes ticked by and Marinette, absorbed in her fantasies, ended up throwing herself out the door and tripping as she ran to her internship.

She passed her favorite cafe, heart thundering as she caught sight of a blond head of hair. Before she knew it, her feet led her past the glass doors to stand in the queue. The line of frustrated adults tapping their feet and checking their watches. The line that nearly stretched to the back wall.

“Hello? Marinette?”

Marinette jolted from her reverie. “Yeah! Sorry, sorry, were you saying something?”

“You have it bad. Just ask him for his number, would you?”

That was always the plan. Ask him out it’ll be fine! Was a mantra in her head every time she stepped past the glass doors of the cafe. Every time she stepped up to the plate she froze and barely squeaked out her order before running out like her skirt was on fire.

“Hey! The usual for you, Em?” the voice that she fell asleep thinking about drew her from her conversation with Alya.

Marinette hastily cut her call, ignoring Alya’s protests in the process. “I-I, ah, yeah! Th-the usual!” she adjusted her bangs. The usual. He knows my order.

His smile was bright and the wink he shot her made her feel like she’s been set on fire. She scurried away to wait for her drink, her mind playing the wink in her head over and over and over again.

When her mint green tea arrived she was glowing. The little ‘Em’ scrawled with a heart in his handwriting left her feeling like she was walking on air as she rushed to her internship.

Em became her name to him the first time she’d tried the cafe. She was busy digging through her purse for her wallet when he had asked her name. She began spelling it on impulse, her name slandered by Starbucks too often. Though she only got through ‘M’ before she met his eyes and her voice died in her throat. He had smiled brightly, scrawling Em on the cup before greeting the next customer.

“Didn’t tell him your name did you?” Alya greeted her at the door.

“What are you doing here?” Marinette bumped her best friend’s hip. “And how do you know? Maybe I did!”

“Babe he wrote ‘Em’ on your cu- Marinette!” Alya gasped.

“What what what happened!”

Alya’s grin was so wide it might have stretched three blocks. “You got his number.”

“What!”

Alya turned the cup in Marinette’s hand, the opposite side of where he had written ‘Em’.

She nearly dropped the cup. “I… got his number.”

“You got his number!” Alya wrapped her arms around her though Marinette was too busy staring at the numbers to reciprocate.

“I… what are you doing here again?” Marinette turned her blue gaze on her best friend who should be at her own internship.

Alya rolled her eyes. “I was on break so I came to see you. I didn’t realize you wouldn’t be here yet though I guess I should have known better.”

Marinette pushed her hand into Alya’s cheek, laughing.

“You’re taking this a lot easier than I thought you would. Scream! It’s okay! Your hot dream boy gave you his number.” Alya laughed.

Marinette rolled her eyes. “I gotta get to work. See you tonight?”

Alya studied Marinette, eyes squinted. “Fine,” she said airily.

Marinette pressed a kiss to Alya’s cheek before flouncing past the looming doors of Gabriel headquarters.

“Tell me why you’re not freaking out!” Alya insisted.

Marinette, cat pajama-ed and cozy in her place in the couch, was staring at the number sketched onto her now-empty cup. “I’m not calling him.”

Alya’s eyes widened. Marinette watched as Alya grabbed a pillow and slammed it against Marinette’s head.

Marinette patiently blew her bangs from her eyes.

“Why not?!” Alya tugged on one of Marinette’s braids gently.

Marinette sighed. “It’s just that, well, he’s him and I’m me. And,” Marinette grabbed a pillow and screeched into it. “He’s Adrien and he’s the boy who has the pretty smile and amazing eyes and the laugh like sunshine and what if that’s not what he is?”

“What do you mean?” Alya stroked her back soothingly.

Marinette came up for air. “Like what if he talks too fast or sits too close or asks me creepy questions? What if I find out that when he eats Oreos he eats the cookie part first?! You know I can’t stand people who do that! It’s blasphemous! Or what if he’s secretly a criminal or a psychopath or-or what if he’s colorblind?!”

Alya looked at her, holding back a laugh.

“A-and what if he’s perfect? What if he’s everything I’ve been dreaming of but I’m not what he wants? What if he runs the other way, what if I disappoint him?”

“Oh baby, you won’t.”

“What if I’m so obviously head over heels that he’s put off? What if he…” Marinette’s heart hurt. “What if he breaks my heart?”

Alya’s arms came around her and Marinette pressed her face into Alya’s shoulder. “You’re ridiculous and you’re calling him. He’s your dream boy.”

“I’m ridiculous and I’m calling him.” she groaned.

“Good girl.”

Marinette’s fingertips hovered over her phone’s keyboard. She glanced up at Alya. Alya nodded. She might as well have a gun to my head right now. Marinette rolled her eyes.

The phone rang twice before a chipper voice answered. “Hello?”

Marinette squeezed her eyes shut. “H-Hi it’s uh, it’s Mari- it’s Em.”

The silence on the other end lasted three pounding heartbeats. “Em! I-I’m really glad you called I-”

“MARINETTE.” She yelped.

“Wh- huh?”

“My name. My name is Marinette.”

When he replied she could hear the smile in his voice. “Marinette.”

Her name on his lips melted her into a puddle.

“Nice to meet you Marinette I’m Adrien. Wanna get some coffee sometime? Or-or tea I guess because you always um order-”

Marinette smiled. “Yeah. Coffee sounds great.”

[HORROR] Things on the Internet

You never imagine that strange things will or even could happen to you, when you live a life like mine. Me? It’s been cookie cutter and bland, all the way through. When I was in high school, I never had any amazing, formative adventures or experiences like you see in all the TV shows and movies. It was just this boring slog of go to school, go to class, come home, play video games, go to bed, wake up, repeat. Same deal with university - go to class, come home, hang out on the Internet, study, and repeat.

So you can imagine how surprised I was when, at the ripe old age of twenty-four, when I was working at a bookstore after I’d graduated from university, the strangest things in the world started to happen to me.

I should explain why I was where I was at. I graduated at the age of twenty-two with a largely useless degree in Political Science. I had no real connections or relevant work experience, so off to retail I went. I may not have achieved my full potential, but I still had to pay the bills, y’know? Be honest with you, I was pretty much aimless at that point. I knew I wanted more, and I guess I knew deep down that I could be more, but I didn’t know how to achieve it.

Then I found Chatroom Pandemonium.

See, I’d never really had a lot of friends. Well, I’ll just come out with it: I was kind of a loser. Still am. So, I sought refuge on the Internet. By the time all this started to happen, I’d be spending tons of hours on it every night, just reading on my various interests for hours, in addition to streaming Netflix and reading comic book scans.

It was on a March evening that I somehow - I can’t remember how, now - stumbled upon an odd website. It was said in a number of these alt-culture message boards to be ‘the most amazing thing ever’ and ‘everything a person could want’. I go there, and… nothing. Blank, black page. ‘Bullshit,’ I muttered to myself, and navigated away. I then decided to watch some Netflix, so I streamed one of those popular superhero shows for three hours then turned my computer off and went to bed.

I slept peacefully, and woke up early - oddly early, given I’d only gone to bed like three hours before. It was three in the morning, and the first thing I noticed was that my computer was on. It was so strange, because I knew I’d turned my monitor and tower off before I went to bed. How could it just turn itself on? But there was something else - it was on the page that I’d closed before, the one where there was nothing on it. Only now, there was a text box there. I slowly got out of bed and walked over to my desk and sat down, squinting my eyes as I leaned in to read what was on the screen. I soon understood that it was a box for me to type a username into to chat in a chatroom, one called ‘Chatroom Pandemonium’.

So, very much curious, I did so. I entered the name “JohnTheMonk” (an old handle of mine from when I was in high school) and clicked ‘JOIN’.

Chatroom prompt shows up, and I noticed it only had one other person in it. His handle was THE_BELIEVER. To make this go simpler, I’ll type up the chatlog and intersperse it with my own feelings and reactions that I had at the time.

THE_BELIEVER: Welcome:)

Now, I had no idea who this guy was, but I was mildly curious. So, I decided to spark up a conversation.

JOHNTHEMONK: hey, sup

I waited a few minutes - oddly long, where chatrooms are concerned (at least in my experience). Finally, he responded.

THE_BELIEVER: im happy youre here. i can tell already that youre a special one

Now, this got me kind of creeped out. I mean, this guy didn’t even know me, but he was saying all this stuff about me?

JOHNTHEMONK: umm..okay.

His next response came immediately.

THE_BELIEVER: im going to come see you. then we’ll have a real good time :)

At this point, I’m basically like “K, fuck this.” So I just logged off, closed the browser, and went back to bed. Didn’t even say goodbye. As far as I was concerned, that was the end of it.

Except it wasn’t.

I woke up a few hours later, got up and showered, got dressed, the whole deal, and went to work. Day went by pretty casually. It was just boring, you know? Bland with not much happening, same as usual for my life. Customers come in, ask about books, I ring them through the cash register, I socialize with my co-workers, that deal.

So I get off work in the evening and I’m walking home. Then my phone dings, so I check it. It’s from a private number and it reads, “it was really rude of you to leave the chatroom without saying goodbye.”

What. The. Fuck.

How the fuck did this asshole get my number? This was getting really scary, and I wasn’t okay with it. But I had no idea how to find out how he got my number, so I just set my phone to not accept texts or phone calls from private numbers. I also resolved to strongly consider changing my phone number later on.

Here’s the thing, though: it didn’t end there.

I was at the comic shop a week later, looking to get a certain item. That’s when the next phase of things started happening.

“Hey,” I asked the clerk who was standing behind the counter, “Do you guys happen to have the latest Hellblazer trade?”

The clerk nodded, pointed out where that title is usually kept, and off I went. I get there and I’m scanning the shelf, and then… then I heard something.

“I haven’t forgotten you.”

It was a thin, small, kind of high-pitched voice. I jumped, kind of, and looked around quickly. No one was around me. Then I heard it speak again.

“I hope you haven’t forgotten me.”

I looked around more. No one there.

I was getting freaked out at this point, so I needed to get out. So I did. Before I knew it, I was out the door and pounding down the sidewalk, trying to shake this. Now I was hearing things? The hell?

But it didn’t stop. The voice kept talking. “I’m going to be there soon, and we’re going to have so much fun.” It sounded almost giddy.

How did I feel at the time? Well, my heart was pounding, and my blood was pumping, and I felt completely on edge - goosebumps all over. What the hell was going on? Two possibilities: something from beyond (as crazy as that sounded) was stalking me, or my mental state was broken. Neither was a comforting thought.

As I walked and desperately tried, and failed, to ignore the voice speaking more and more into my ears and head, I tried to work this out. This all started with that chatroom, and that started with all the postings on the Internet that were gushing about that URL. Nothing about that site had been normal or typical. First time I go there, it’s a blank page. Then my computer and monitor turn on by themselves and navigate back to the website, by themselves, where now it’s a chatroom login page.

This didn’t make any sense, and it was scary as hell. I was on edge the entire walk transit commute home, especially because this voice just would not shut the fuck up. The entire bus ride, it kept telling me all excited how it was gonna come see me and how I’d be ‘changed for the better’ and how ‘pain can be beautiful, and you’ll find that out too’ and all other sorts of horrifying shit. When I got home, I immediately dug out my headphones, put them on and plugged them into my phone and turned on some music to max volume to drown out what I was hearing. It worked.

So, what to do? After some thought, I guess I convinced myself that this had to be a mental health crisis. Like many people, my mind defaulted to the ‘logical’ explanation. I wasn’t at the point where I could convince myself that this was an actual spiritual entity. I just wasn’t wired that way.

So, long story short, I made an appointment with my doctor, got some meds, and everything quieted down. No more voices. At that point, I was satisfied - everything was fine and good, and so was I.

So, back to my boring old life. I went back to the drudgery that was work, while also trying to think on how I could improve my life. Maybe I could go to grad school. Maybe I could try to, somehow, launch a career based on the qualifications and credentials I had now.

So, one night, a week or so later, I was doing web searches for job postings and internships I could possibly take up when I heard something from my living room. I looked at my slightly open door and focused my ears. It was… my TV? How could my TV be on? I specifically remembered having turned it off when I got home that day.

So, I walked out to the living room and checked the TV. It was on to a channel of static. Idly picking up the remote control from the coffee table, I started changing the channel. All static.

‘Well, shit,’ I thought to myself. I immediately assumed it was a problem with the cable company. So I slid my phone out of my pocket to call them, when… I heard the voice.

“You keep running from me, Michael,” it said. My eyes immediately went wide with fear, my blood running cold and freezing inside of me. I, frozen in place in a mix of abject terror and shock, looked up at the TV, which now had a figure on it. It held a basic humanoid shape, but it… it couldn’t be human. Though the figure was largely cloaked in shadows and darkness, I could see its shape. Its head looked misshapen, like there were horns or something coming out of it. As well, the way the sides of its head looked… it looked as if the skin was ridged or something. Logically, the immediate conclusion would be that this was an elaborate prank, but deep down I knew - I knew - that it wasn’t. This was real, and horrifyingly so. I could write off the texts. I could even write off this. But I couldn’t write off the combination of this and the texts and the voice speaking to me out of thin air.

As I dwelt on this, the figure on the TV continued speaking. “I’m going to be arriving soon,” it said, with a happy edge to its voice, “real soon. We’re going to have so much fun then.”

Then the TV switched off. After a moment of me standing there dazed, I hesitantly turned it back on, and it turned on to the standard TV service, like nothing had changed.

This was the point where I decided to go to work figuring out what was going on. I spent the next three days, all day, reading up on that website, what people had said or written about it. After a day, I found one piece of information that I found really helpful. I’ve decided to copy and paste it here:

But those who have gotten through… well, different things happen. One person got through, and according to reports, months later murdered his entire family before killing himself, but not before talking online about having contacted something. Others report friends or family getting through and talking to people - or figures, whatever they are or whoever they are - and then shortly after their mental state undergoing a rapid deterioration until they had to be institutionalized. Then there’s the murders. One person reported being stalked by some figure from that site, online and in their dreams, until one day their remains - their ripped apart, torn apart - remains were found in their apartment, with no leads on who did it. So, the question remains: who or what is behind the website? I found one lead, in the writings of some hackers from the early nineties who were involved in the occult. It’s… well, it’s batshit crazy, but I feel the need to include it. One guy, who called himself ‘a Cyber-Mystic’, says that there exists spirits - demons, entities, whatever - that exist online, wholly online, in the electronic signals sent to and from across computer networks. Then, when they want to, they show up in the real world. Crazy? Yeah. But I’ve tried to figure out what else could be at work here, and I’m all fuckin’ out of ideas.

It was crazy and insane, but it wouldn’t leave my mind. Now, I should describe my mental and emotional state at this point. At the end of the three days of researching, finding out what I just laid out and other possible ways out of this crisis (but none that I was really all that certain would work), I was just fucked up. That’s the best way to put it. I couldn’t sleep. Every small noise made me jump. My heart was constantly pounding its way out of my chest and I’d never been so afraid. Nights were a terror to get through, because every small bump in the night made me certain that this, this thing had finally shown up to come get me.

It all came to a head two days after I finished doing my research. I was getting ready for bed, and had just finished crying my eyes out in utter terror because I was so terrified that I was fucked with absolutely no hope. I had just finished doing minor chores and other stuff around my room, and had crawled into bed. I shut my eyes and tried to force myself to go to sleep. An hour passed, and I was still awake. As I was starting to despair of ever sleeping again, I… I heard it. A very, very loud sound like a rushing of wind and flame. I opened my eyes and saw in front of my bed this column of flame, that lit up my entire room. Then it disappeared, and, well, there it was. The thing that had been stalking me. I can’t describe it. It was so monstrous, so horrifying. Its long claws, and its razor sharp teeth that dripped blood, and its skin with ridges all over. My heart was pounding so hard I was afraid I was gonna have a heart attack any minute, and I knew - I knew - that this was it. I was done. It was gonna kill me, or take me back to where it was from, or what the fuck ever, and at that moment I wished that I had been a religious person so I could have some protection.

It tried to move forward, to crawl onto my bed to get me. It tried. But it stopped. Something was stopping it.

I realized what happened, and my fear disappeared. Son of a bitch, I thought to myself, the seal worked.

As it shoved itself against the invisible barrier more and more, presumably trying to figure out what the fuck was going on, I felt relief flood through me that that protective measure I’d found in my research on all this had actually worked. First I grinned. Then I laughed - a confident, mocking laugh. I was safe! Then I decided to push my luck. I spoke the incantation of the Mother’s Heart, and just like I expected, the demon was engulfed in bright, vicious blue flame. Its screams sounded like nothing I’d ever heard before. If I had to try and describe it, I’d say try to imagine the cry of a lion mixed with a high-pitched scream, but even that isn’t really close. I watched, my eyes wide open and this big ass smile on my face, as this thing flailed and threw itself against the invisible barrier in all directions, the blue flame eating away at its skin and form. Finally, after a few minutes, it fell to the ground - dead.

I slowly got out of bed and crept over to the corpse. I looked at it. It looked ugly as fuck, to be honest - I mean, not only was it ugly when it was alive, but now it was burned to death. As I looked down at it, I noticed that its flesh wasn’t just burned, it was burned well enough that it was cooked. As I smelt its roasted smell - something like steak - I got an idea. Like, okay, it was a really, really fucked up idea, but equally cool. After as few moments of consideration, I - with a giant smile on my face - went to work putting it into action.

Anyways, now it’s the evening of St. Patrick’s Day, and everything’s fine. I didn’t even have to dispose of the body, it just dissolved into white powder by itself within twenty four hours. That considered, it’s a real good thing I managed to cut off a bunch of the meat from the bones before it all dissolved. You’re probably wondering how the demon meat tasted. Honestly? Like fish. Weird, right? But, hey, now I can say that I’ve done something nobody’s ever done.

But some weird stuff has happened. I feel great - real great. Better than I’ve ever felt in my entire life, than I ever imagined I could feel. Some other stuff, too. My eyes have been changing colour, and I’ve started to notice odd ridges and bumps showing up beneath my skin. I suppose I should be concerned, maybe even scared, but for some reason I can’t find it within myself to give a damn.
