(changed my mind mid tag ramble but i dont feel like retyping all that)

and I already established them a bit, Bedwyn is a wizard who fled from his Very Shitty family (v adaine d20 inspired) and Hoder is a bard like her dad.

So the scenario that's been Plaguing me is: Wyn has kept working on some of the formulae he had been researching before he ran away, (mostly bc he Cannot Stop Thinking About It and needs it to be done to finally put it away, ykyk) and during a probably slightly sleep deprived hangout sesh/body doubling appointment with hoder she notices a pattern and Immediately gets super invested. Like crawls over him to Look At That Shit (autism win).

And what do they crack that had always stumped bedwyn? It looks like musical notation! not exactly, but the pattern is there and pulled apart properly shes able to play it out. And it works! With that they can quickly break down the rest of it and work what would otherwise be pretty dangerous magic (I've been really mulling over summoning, more on that later) into a MUCH simpler and safer charm that can be harmonized and strengthened. This would also be the start of their romantic relationship proper because I'm sappy and the idea of the AHA moment fading to the realization that you're way up in each other's personal space is Fun. (bonus for the overexcited kiss then OH FUCK IM SORRY I DIDNT MEAN- love that shit)

As for the specific magic, again I've really been thinking about summoning lately just cause it's cool. and I've already considered the fact that summoning an eidolon (stealing terminology from ff is my jobby) solo is Straight Up Dangerous because of how much mana it takes being a strain on the body. (big fan of basically mp gague leads directly into hp, you can keep casting without mana but you will hurt yourself about it).

So summoning is dangerous and difficult, better if done by multiple people in sync, and a performance would be the most effective way to 1. keep it going longer than otherwise possible 2. work in other spells as well 3. Just do complex magic in general.

magical formulas that, to the trained eye, actually resemble leitmotifs of effects and entities. weaving complex spells into songs both disguising casting and making them exponentially easier to be cast in groups, thus strengthening them. band that can fight normally and also come together for big ass spell performances.
