alim’s a very “in your face” type of mage in battle.     he never hides that he’s a mage outside of battle, only wearing light armor, however enchanted it may be, & by all appearances looking as you’d expect an enchanter to look, & he’s open about his magic in conversation.     but in battle, for all that he is a powerful mage, he doesn’t rely purely on range, nor even on area-of-effect spells  ;     if some idiot with a sword comes running into his space expecting him to be an easy target because he’s a mage, he will swing his staff to their knees & knock them up the head with the other end to prove them wrong.     alim is for the most part specialized in the arcane, but he’s learned ways of using his staff as a melee weapon, started learning in the middle of the fifth blight, & he is very liberal with combining hexes & paralysis spells with his elemental-coated staff moves.
