one of the interesting little nuances of r/v especially the first hundred or so episodes is like. he’s not really her employer! he has certainly has some authority over her, to order her around and to manage her relationship with David/David’s education, but Liz is her actual boss and Vicki never lets him forget that. he doesn’t have the authority to get rid of her ( try though he might! through multiple means! ) or to punish her, and Elizabeth’s word is final on any orders, even those relating to David. Rog has about as much actual authority over V as Carolyn does, which I think drives him absolutely insane.

#that said I think she’s *more* obedient to him before he causes her to lose some trust in him.#either by a) yelling at her and otherwise fucking with her or b) putting her working relationship with Liz at risk as when he takes her out #on breakfast/sheriff testifying causing her to miss her lessons (and not telling liz as he said he would)#the dividing line between him and Liz holding the purse gets more and more clear as time goes on tbh.#as does his charm! and figuring out how to manipulate her in other ways that’s not relying on that authority (now lost)#➤ roger collins & victoria winters. ┊ pain sometimes precedes pleasure，miss winters.#idk like maybe this is an obvious thing lol but I joke a lot about him saying atrocious things to his employee and like true. but asterisk.#if he wouldn’t have been absolutely batshit to her (repeatedly) she would have happily treated him like a second boss demanding equal #deference as Liz; but the more he shows his ass the more Vicki’s obliged to note that well dickhead you don’t sign my checks!
