now that i really think about it the mint color really clashes with the blue of javier's coat in a,,, not so great way tbh. either the coat should've been a smidge more green tinted or the hair had to be a little more blue. so,,, yeah.

omg hihihi hello!
yeah you're right! this was a change that was made pretty early on in the webtoon and it honestly slipped my mind completely the first time i read the novel so good catch!
if i had to guess, lee hyunmin probably didn't see much point in making lloyd send off javier, wait four days and the go with him when he could just send him off right away without changing too much of the overall result. he's all about making things fast-paced and entertaining so i can see the thought process behind this change.
but i am a little sad that it means they skipped some of the banter between javier and lloyd when the latter sends him off ajsdhksa
Tumblr media
it's one of the first times we see lloyd being caught off guard by how much of a brat javier can be and he's just,,, kinda delighted about it. they've had the chance to banter with one another, with a special mention to the sadly skipped banter in the giant ants arc, but i don't know what it is about this particular exchange that i just!! find really fun!! and i'm sad they skipped it completely lol
and then there's the injury you mention that was also completely avoided in the webtoon. which was. pretty gnarly tbh
Tumblr media
i still don't understand the webtoon's insistence of robbing us of the already scarce whump there's in the novel and shying away of the more gory details. for a comic that prides itself in being a bit more grotesque than the norm, they really don't like showing this kind of details
also. we were once again deprived of lloyd being genuinely worried about javier so that's. cool. great yeah i don't mind at all ajkshkads
overall i don't thinks it's that big of a change compared to the absolute atrocities that were committed later on and i see why lee hyunmin saw the chance to save a couple panels, but it is still kinda disappointing that we don't get these little moments that help flesh out the characters and slowly build up their relationship.
and!!! it also skipped this wonderful little moment when lupellan drops a trap on them and sprays them with sleeping gas that could kill them and they just. don't care. zero fucks given ajkshdksa

look at them. they don't give a crap. they're mostly amused at the familiarity of the situation.
this is what i mean when i say they feel closer to each other in the novel. there's these little moments between them that just,,, makes it clear that hey, these two actually like each other, they have fun together, they banter and they joke and just,,,, feel like they're not just tolerating the other's presence but actually sorta vibing
and also also in the novel lloyd and javier are constantly aware and checking how the other is doing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
compare this to the webcomic where the walls drop down on them and lloyd just gets to shoveling a tunnel right away without checking in with javier or some banter or anything

like. technically it should be the same right. the end result, them getting out of the trap, is the same so whatever got skipped shouldn't matter, right? but it does! it does matter! you skip their banter, you skip their conversation, you skip the parts that make them it feel like they care, like they actually give a crap about one another, and so they just. feel like they're going through the motions of the plot.
and that's the thing about the webcomic, it's always so focused on advancing the plot and making it entertaining that they don't take the time to give the characters little moments to make us connect with them and with each other.
this example is very mild, honestly in the grand scheme of things it's really not that big of a deal. but because it keeps happening, the little things that get skipped are piling up and now a huge chunk of the original story is missing because the webcomic thought they didn't matter in the moment.
it’s weird how it changed, and i keep seeing you blog about how you dislike the webtoon. it’s understandable.
do you know how heartbreaking this is to me??/lh. i used to love the webcomic, i was so excited every time an episode dropped, my favorite day of the week was thursday cause that was the day i got to read a new whole episode and see how they were adapting one of my favorite stories. i gushed so much about it, made so many posts about how much i liked it and now i'm,,, the person that doesn't like the webcomic and keeps pointing out how disappointing it is lol
it's a damn shame and while i refuse to get my hopes up that they'll do better in the future, i do hope i can get myself to enjoy the good tidbits we get
and you're welcome! i hope you're enjoying the novel as much as i did!
@lloydfrontera hi hello
i was rereading the webtoon and comparing it to the novel translation and saw the story changed a bit. this is one of the scenes on the seokbinggo arc (or the freezer)
novel: lloyd SENDS JAVIER OFF to figure out what happened. javier returns 4 days later with what almost became a curse wound along with the construction glove and some husk
webtoon: javier OFFERS TO GO, but lloyd goes with him. they do this without scouting the area first, and javier doesn’t get injured but rather senses mana from the gorge (but why. why would they change it???) and triggers a trap, lloyd yanking him back in time to prevent injury.
it’s weird how it changed, and i keep seeing you blog about how you dislike the webtoon. it’s understandable.
also: i found the translation from your blog. thanks!! :D
